Will Sprint overlook G3 for OTA Marshmellow update? - Sprint LG G3

With other carriers already prepping/pushing out Android 6.0 to the G3, I still have seen nothing from Sprint on Android 6.0 for the G3. I did hear the G4 will get 6.0 soon, however.... will Sprint be ignoring the G3 for the Android 6.0 updated ROM in favor of selling more G5 units on launch?
Not really a Q&A thread, I just wanted everyone's insight and opinions on the matter. I run into this issue with Sprint specifically when it comes to OTA updates....
Not really interested in custom ROMs at this point, FYI, so a heads up before you think about posting links for me here

G4 already has 6.0. I'm fairly sure we will get it but who knows when. For whatever it's worth here's an email response I received when I asked about Marshmallow.

Only Verizon has released 6.0 on the G3 so far. Give it more time. Sprint is probably having issues with the wifi calling or something.

My gf has the g4 on T-Mobile & just got the marshmallow update. I've read various places that the g3 for all the major carriers will get it eventually. Sprint is generally the slowest out of them all to roll out updates. So to answer your question, yes we'll get it but who knows when.

It is usually AT&T who is the last. I got lollipop on my work AT&T G3 6 months after the other 3 carriers had it. T-Mobile is not listing Marshmallow on their site yet. This is last week's article showing updates: https://www.androidpit.com/lg-g3-android-update

The Sprint G4 was updated to Marshmellow back just before Christmas. And has got another update the start of this month. They seem to have not updated their RDF to reflect that. On the G3 front there has also been no action of the RDF :/ I'm hoping they just stopped using that and are doing internal testing we just don't know about but I'm not really hopeful. I'm pretty disappointed in LG and Sprint, I can live without OS goodies but for the love of all give us the monthly security patches.

the LG G Stylo received the OTA around last month on Sprint/Boost then T-Mobile/Metro right after soo.....us on the G3 might get it before T-Mobile again

I think it's safe to say none of the carriers release them fast enough for any of us. T-Mobile might not list it on their site but her phone definitely got the marshmallow update. I can provide a screenshot later when she gets home. Not that any of that matters, as it's not our network or phone.

I would think if T-Mobile got an OTA it would be posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general by some excited member. T-Mobile community forum is still stating any day and that the update is ready. Maybe your friend's is the first. But until now only Verizon members have posted about receiving MM on the G3. Even international members are asking where is there update. So it seems the hold up was LG.

Talked to Sprint customer service about a week ago. According to them Sprint LG G3 should receive Marshmallow on March 23rd.

Right as N is coming about, the last official update will be M. Hey I still have mine and love it.

Why does everyone loose their minds on updates being pushed OTA !?!?!
If you're rooted 99% of the time you skip the OTA to keep from breaking root AND being rooted you can upgrade at your leisure because there is always a port and CM.
There is already and official CM13 and other 6.0 ROMS so who cares what Sprint does unless you like the bloatware.

Some people want Stock and not an AOSP rom. It has less to deal with OTA, and more to deal with an actual release.

Can confirm, I talked to a rep as well a few days ago and they said that they wouldn't give me an exact date but its due before April 1st.

In my opinion the main reason some users focus on official firmware releases is because cm and aosp camera apps suck. And not in a good way.

not just that. better sources too.

Also stock is usually more stable. BareCee has been awesome for me. I've tried other roms but always go back. Would love him to release something based on stock marshmallow when it comes out.

so no one got the OTA? yet

Last Note Firmware Update Installed on ATT Note Already?

Quick question...is the last update, the one that went out to the international Note with the adjusted keyboard option to one side or the other and the lockscreen changes a few weeks back, already installed on the forthcoming ATT Note? Curiously it seems that none of the reviews of late mention it as some still complain about stretching the thumb all the way across the screen to type without being able to adjust the keyboard. Thanks.
My guess would be no, but the minute you install Kies, or try an OTA update via wi-fi, it will show up.
I got my international note on Dec 23, the minute I connected there was 1 update available, and two weeks later another update which brought it to LA4, 2.3.6
These things probably have a 1 month or more window from production, shipping to, then arrival at a store.
I work on photocopiers, and the serial numbers have the build dates, and even though these things weigh 500 pounds or more, they have a 3-6 month window from production, to us unboxing them in our office. Most of the time, they are one version of firmware out of date.

International and AT&T have separate/different firmware release schedule and different firmwares as well. So, don't expect to see a firmware already there wait for you to update. It never happened on any AT&T devices.
Even though Samsung will frequently update firmware on international version, not so on AT&T version. First of all, AT&T has to request an updated firmware from Samsung. Without AT&T's request, Samsung can't do anything about it. Then, it takes couple months for AT&T test the updated firmware before OKed for release. Then, AT&T has to agree on a date for the release. Let's say GNote 2 or GS3 is about to be released on AT&T, the update for current Note will be delayed until the new phones are out of door.
I won't expect any update on AT&T Note until summer at the earliest unless some serious bug is found.
Got my i717M yesterday. It's running LA2. I have not come across any options for the updated keyboard.

+1. All updates to the ATT version must be approved by ATT. No such bottleneck for our version. Not to mention DBT seems to be on the ball.

True, IF any at&t note gets an update, consider yourself lucky
A carrier rom is usually the LAST one to get an update (except for iJunk).
Plus, please use caution and if you look for a rom not from a carrier, don't
try installing a rom made for an international (GT-N7000) to an at&t (SGH-i717)
and vice versa. Guarantee you'll brick it.

I wasn't aware of the keyboard adjustment, it sounds like the perfect fix for those of us that are under 6'4" and paw challenged. Shame the carriers are so timid regarding upgrades, but this keyboard fix is a need market app developers should quickly supply. That will make waiting for the big boys to bring goodies like CM9 a little more bearable. : )

You will love your GNote! I got ensquared for my GNote back in December, $58 for one year since I did not have a manufacturers warranty which you do. It is the only phone I have ever bought insurance on.
This is a screen shot of the stock Gingerbread Keyboard. I like it better than the Samsung keyboard. The one handed keyboard is Samsung keyboard option on my firmware LA4. I have not used it because I think the regular keyboard is the perfect size for emailing and texting two handed.

We may need to start a Collin County GNote club! lol! I want the LTE model as well! Right now I am looking to get an unlocked Canadian Bell model. We'll see if that works out. Turns out if would be about $50 more than the ATT model for no commitment. Just checking out a few details. They have the NFC enabled so I am checking to see if you can load Google Wallet and if it works etc.

A few words for my fellow Photoners

My contract with Sprint is going to be up soon and, sadly, I am moving on to a different device. Although my Photon was a great device the unfulfilled promises from Moto/Sprint and lack of a trouble free ROM above Gingerbread leaves me no other suitable option but to upgrade. Tie that to the fact that I have moved to an area where Sprint service barely exists and my P4G's fate is sealed.
That said, everyone here in the Photon forums will be missed. There are some very talented dev's here that I owe a great amount of Thanks to. Loki, th3bill, jokersax and so many others made it possible to unlock much of my device's potential. If only Moto would have coughed up what they promised the Photon would have truly been a formitable device for anyone to reckon with.
Anyone have suggestions on the best place to list a near mint Photon4G with an unlockable bootloader? I'm sure it could possibly be of some use to a devloper somewhere.
(Mods please don't delete, I am not trying to sell here. Just want to know the best place to list.)
I got a Photon Q used for $100. No LTE here yet, but was able to Unlock bootloader and running CM10.2

I switched to ATT for the same reasons you're talking about Verizon. I also got the S4 and I LOVE it. It has the best battery life of any phone I have ever had, bar none. I bought two extra batteries and a charger, as I always do when I get a new phone, it's been two months now, and I have yet to use them. One day I got the battery down to 17%, but otherwise, never below 30%, and I do use the phone a lot. I don't miss my Moto phones at all. Never again. Regarding selling your phone, I think they promote swappa around here. You could always use craigslist too. But if you're in a position to consider it, as I was, think about donating to one of the developers. I donated my phone and honestly hope some good has come of it.

For me, I cannot think of a phone I want LESS than this moto phone. They used to have better radios but I don't think that's true anymore. My S4 works everywhere I've needed it. No dropped calls, 4G service that's much better than Sprints service, and we had 4G LTE here in Houston. Step away from the moto addiction, you won't be sorry you did. There is GOOD life without moto, and Punit Soni doesn't need your buisness, trust me on that. That guy has deluded himself about his honesty and ethics, to the point that he doesn't even realize he talks out of both sides of his mouth.
I agree with the sentiments expressed on the development here, and the community that was built. It was the friendliest, most helpful group of people I'd ever been around bar none. I miss that a lot, but I haven't missed the photon for 5 minutes. Well, I kind of missed it while I used the Galaxy Nexus I bought off ebay for six months, that thing had horrible battery life, but otherwise was an equivalent phone. Since I've had the S4, not missed the photon for a minute.
Thanks retailguy, you're the second person that has told me good things about the GS4. Hopefully I'll get the MDK build instead of ME7 when I pick it up this week.
I'm ditching smartphones completely and moving to the Omate TrueSmart. If I'm going to loose Ubuntu for Android functionality I see no reason for me to waste my money on a smartphone.

Yep, you're right. Not having Verizon, I forgot about that. Unless someone finds an exploit, the bootloader will stay locked. And considering that no one has found an exploit for the Photon, it's doubtful that anyone will find one for the X. Personally, I believe that's why Motorola never unlocked the photon bootloader, it was their unofficial "test" to see if the community could defeat their security. But, I've also been accused of being a bit paranoid too.
You must be talking about the Photon Q. I remember reading that before it was released. The Photon 4G was put out with an unlockable bootloader. That was the reason I picked one up. Mine runs CM10.2. I really like the features that Cyanogenmod puts into their ROMs. That's why I'm hoping to get the MDK build. If I do CM will be on my GS4 in a matter of hours.
If you are on Verizon or AT&T, expect every phone you buy to be locked down tighter than Fort Knox. To the people looking for the MDK build of the S4, YOU WILL NOT FIND IT. YOUR PHONE WILL BE PERMALOCKED OOB. The turnover was brutally fast, and 99.9% of all new units after the OTA were shipped with ME7 pre-installed. That's for both carriers. Unless you buy used or can verify that it wasn't updated. My friend has the AT&T one, and I keep telling him that I feel his pain haha.

Motorola pushed an update that locked the bootloader. Anyone who had 2.3.4 and accepted that update got a present of a locked bootloader that no one has been able to defeat. My understanding is if you got 2.3.5 from the factory you did not have this problem. Only those who participated in the soak test have locked bootloaders.
You must have a factory 2.3.5 phone, or one that originally had 2.3.4 and was not updated as part of the soak test.

Wow. This is surprising and disappointing, but truthfully, I haven't even thought about unlocking the bootloader on this phone. The stock rom does everything I want it to do, and since it's the most popular Samsung phone out there , it'll probably be supported longer than I care to use it. It will affect what I buy next time, the whole locked bootloader really ticks me off, but c'est la vie. I will survive. At least they didn't lock it during a soak test and take functionality away from me. I stupidly didn't investigate before I bought the phone. Won't do that again...

Could be. My understanding is if you have 2.3.4 you can unlock. If you have 2.3.5 you cannot unlock, regardless of how you got it. Root is still obtainable either way.

Possible Good News Towards Bootloader Unlocking

Evening everyone. Just thought I would share an article I found over on Droid Life today.
http://www.droid-life.com/2014/08/07/moto-x-bootloader-unlock-qualcomm/
While there is no specific mention of the G3 (only G2), this is an intriguing bit of news. Dan Rosenberg has pulled some outlandishly amazing stuff in the past, so if he says this a vulnerability that affects all Snapdragon processors, I believe him. The S5 and M8 may have been patched already, but I have a feeling that if we keep our devices from updating, this could be something that works for us.
Food for thought, people.

The LG official unlock?
I signed the thing but I doubt it will happen anytime soon
I don't think the official unlock will be done anytime soon. I just like that those guys are working hard at it and seem pretty confident that they will be able to get all variants unlocked with their method they are developing. It will be a while, but I'm thinking it's very possible still have it before the new year.
I believe the "official" unlock may happen in time. It wouldn't surprise me in the least bit if LG adopted the same practices as HTC in that regard. With that said, it's not something Verizon will ever allow on their devices. In the past, we may have gotten lucky. Now, we only have that option if Verizon and the manufacturers offer us a "Developer" or Google Experience edition. Personal advice would be to lock down your phone via Titanium Backup concerning OTAs, regardless of how enticing they may be, and wait for the Dev community to release their method.

Apparantly you didnt have a m8.
*shakes head* Did HTC actually release the S-Off method for Verizon devices? Thought it got unlocked by devs via firewater because when S-Off was first released by HTC for the M8 the Verizon version was not included.

Verizon was not included. You either must use the exploit of find someone with a USB S-Off service card.
Verizon probably won't even let the official unlock work as it'll "mess up the network". Oh FFS.
Verizon just plain sucks as far as these things go...they lock everything down, then also they don't even want us having any Nexus devices. But it's OK you can pay around $650 with tax for a Dev S5 or something that you have to get from Samsung lol
Ridiculous

Agreed. If I was in a part of the country with better coverage from the other providers, I would have sold my unlimited line and jumped ship a long time ago. But alas, only AT&T has decent coverage outside of cities in SC besides Verizon, and their coverage drops significantly if you veer off an interstate onto a back highway surrounded by countryside around here. So Verizon it is.

Could not possibly agree any more...I wished VZW weren't so locked down on everything. I'm in the exact same situation here in NE. AT&T's the only one who's even close coverage-wise, and really they aren't. So yep, our choices out here include Verizon, Verizon, ooorrrrrr...Verizon! :silly:
Emailed LG about a bootloader unlock since there rumors floating. LG's response was that I'd have to get it from Big Red. Fat chance of that happening.
LG G3 flies faster than a G6
OG RAZR XT912 got 4.4 before S4

Lag stopped all of a sudden ??

Lag has been a minor nuisance since I've had the phone.
But it seems to have stopped all of a sudden either yesterday or today.
This happen to anyone else? Anyone know why?

I was about to post a follow up on the tweaks and ART runtime (that had been working almost flawlessly on my device for almost 24 hours straight now) and saw this thread.
Even though the improvements given by ART and some RAM/Display/Scrolling tweaks were phenomenal, they still had moments of minor stuttering once or twice in an hour's time.
Today however, I noticed my device charging faster, not getting as hot, etc.
Is anyone aware of something that could have caused this?
2 of my close friends have the VZW G3 as well, on the latest firmware. I'm going to send them a text and see if they noticed anything different today.
I'll report back.
I am on 10b firmware, which the phone came with. I did not know there we're any other firmwears for the Verizon LG G3.

They are suppose to be working with LG continuously to make sure all the firmware improvements LG makes in response to the many issues us users/beta-testers have found and reported are updated onto our phones asap.
Particularly since unlike T-Mobile they have required our Verizon G3s be locked down so we cannot update them ourselves...
In reality, Verizon is happy with whatever shipped initially on the phones since everyone who got one is stuck with it for about two years and there is no revenue from updated firmware, so why should they give a damn ?
We might get a Kit Kat update to 4.4.4 maybe about the time L is released, and if Verizon is feeling unusually benevolent, eventually, an L update maybe 6 months later. Or not.
Verizon does not care at all about Android customers, even though we are the majority of their users. You can be sure they will be all over the iPhone6 phones when they release in a couple of weeks though.

100% agree with everything you said but comparing it to iOS is kind of unfair. Those updates comes straight from Apple. Although the majority of Verizon phones are Android, they sell more iPhones than any other device by far, even Sammy flagships. That gives Apple the leveraging power to be able to give straight updates and have no branding on their phones.
Apple produces updates and tests them for the various iPhone models, ok. Do they then send them out to Verizon and ATT and every other cell company that allows the use of iPhones for review and pre-OTA testing for "network compatibility" ? I don't think so, I think they update from their own servers directly to user's phones, but I am not sure.
For Android hardware vendors, though, if they even create updates for Verizon models, they have to, for some reason, go through Verizon to reach their own customers. LG cannot send OTA updates to LG customers, because Verizon won't let them ? Instead we have situations like with the LG G3, where T-Mobile and ATT and European users have updated firmware up to v10j while we are lingering with 10b still. The South Koreans even have 10k I think.
There are some significant improvements in these updates, but Verizon LG customers may never see them, because of Verizon. That is very annoying, to me, and the minute they take away my unlimited data I am gone never to return.
The Verizon LG G3 works with 4gLTE on Cricket here, and H, and Edge. That's on ATT towers. I am using that now. It also works on T-Mobile, though I am unclear about what connection types are supported. I heard LTE works there too. If I leave Verizon, I'll just stick a pre-paid SIM in and that will be fine.

I see you're still lurking around the G3 forum... You getting one??
It is a bummer to not have have the options we had on our S4s but I still love this phone with Root and xposed and I'm quite happy.
Our G3 devs are still saying they're going to be able to unlock these things which is cool... Anyways just wanted to say what up!

I tested my Verizon G3 with my T-Mobile prepaid sim and got better 4gLTE download and upload and ping than I got native on Verizon here.
So, both AT&T and T-Mobile LTE work on this phone.

Right now, it's looking like the G3. I'm still waiting to see the Note 4 tomorrow and the Moto X+1 on Thursday because hey why not. I doubt the Note 4 will be tempting enough to actually accept running stock TW or even hoping for a Hashcode disciple to get Safestrap on there, then I'm still really limited. The Moto X+1 probably won't have a removable battery, which is a problem. It's very annoying to use my One Max with it's embedded battery compared to S4 where I never think about it.
The ZL battery for the G3 just came out and it's looking like good days are coming in the bootloader situation, so I'll probably be pulling the trigger soon enough.

yeah i looked that up after i posted that lol, I remembered 8/30 being the release date, that's the second delay already. It's a shame they're tripping up like this. I hope it at least means a better product in the end.
The Note 4 is pretty enticing right now, I need to let the newness wear down lol.
So which Verizon app was causing the art shutdown. Also did anyone find a way to fix the almost unreadable text when thin and small

Lg H850 Uk updates?

I just been given a new Lg G5 H850 Uk sim free from work.
When I first ran the phone I had to do about 4 updates, which is now at Nov 16 and no more updates available?
I have tried over the air and Lg bridge, surely there must be a newer update than this with all the security updates Google has sent out?
My Moto Z was up to March 17 with updates.
Is this what to expect of LG?

I spoke to LG support and they said there's no need for security updates. Took 2 hours of web chat to get a phone call to tell me the same thing.
Very odd, no need for security updates???

Yup that was the official response I got from LG too. They basically either have no idea what LG ever plan to release or don't want anyone to know ?.
There are new KDZs just recently released though ?. Search around and you will find what you are looking for ?.

Yeah, I had a 1 chat with their web chat support who escalated and had a supervisor call me to say the same thing. I asked if he can assure me that my phone was safe from exploits since Nov2016 till now. He obviously couldn't so he took my IMEI to work out my model (god knows why) and then took my details to find out when the update is coming.
Suffice to say I don't expect any answers this side of the century.

Hi ******,
Thank you for your query regarding your LG G5,
I have spoken with the tech team in the office and they have informed me that since November 2016 there have been no security risks that have required an update so one has not been performed. If the need for an update arises then your phone will be automatically prompted to perform this update.
We tend to release these updates either when neccessary or when a large update has been created.
At this moment in time there is no reason for an update for so one has not been created, if you have questions regarding this please get back in touch.
I hope my email has answered your query and assisted you today; I would really appreciate your feedback! Please help us to improve our customer service by completing the short survey after this email.
after this answer and my experiences with LG phones, i will try an other manufacturer next time!

Actually a new update was just released recently (V20D) with the newest security patches, i think it's just a matter of time until it will hit our phones

I'm so glad I got the opportunity to give frank feedback.
I think it is quite dishonest of LG to state they are committed to monthly security updates but be almost 6 months behind... for a flagship that was released last year that's out of order.
