Unlocking the phone using fingerprint without turning on the screen - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys! I just want to know if there is a chance that the LG V10 can be unlocked by fingerprint without having to activate the screen? Will the Marshmallow update make this possible? or this is dependent on the hardware?
Lastly is there an app that can let you unlock the phone using fingerprint without activating the screen.
I think the Nexus 5x, Nexus 6p and the OnePlus 2 have this feature.

Hi guys, any information you could share regarding this update? Thanks!

I believe there is no way to do that

For those who have updated their V10 to Marshmallow, have you checked if the phone can now be unlocked by fingerprint without activating the screen?

I think this is a marshmallow feature, I'm curious about this too. LG will probably remove this feature knowing them.

Hi guys, anyone here who has had their V10's updated with Marshmallow?

No but when you say turning on the screen, do you mean pushing the power button on to get the fingerprint to unlock?

Yes, you need to turn on the screen either via power button or via double tap then use fingerprint to unlock the phone. That's how the V10 works in Lollipop, I just don't know if in Marshmallow the V10 can be unlock directly by fingerprint alone.
In Nexus 5x, 6p and OnePlus 2 you can unlock the phone directly by fingerprint, no need to turn on the screen.

Hi guys! anyone here who has updated their V10's to Marshmallow? Just want to check if fingerprint alone can unlock the phone even without activating the screen or pressing the power button.
Thanks in advance for any replies!

I got the 6.0 updated already but you still need turn on screen to use fingerprint unlocked... sam as LP version

Thanks huuhung1178!

One of the best features of my nexus 6p. I'm worried that I'll get too used to it and miss it if it's ever dropped. I've not updated my v10 yet but it would be very neat if this is something that could be done. On the nexus side, it's called nexus imprint.

Found a quick way to unlock:
Put your finger on the power button, now double tap on the screen.

I hate to click power key every time to use fingerprint to unlock the phone
I really Miss my mate 8 fingerprint?

Just use quick cover flip case like the nillkin leather one. You just flip it and this automatically awakes screen. then put your finger on the sensor and it unlocks.

Thanks guys for the replies. So the only way to unlock the phone by fingerprint is to turn-on the screen first before using the fingerprint? i.e. double tap the screen or press the power button first then use fingerprint to unlock.

LG's Knock Code

LG is coming out with a feature that's an evolution to knock on/off. it's called knock code. i like the idea. here's a youtube video they made for it. what do you guys think of the idea and implementation?
Knock Code
What idea? They didn't give away anything in that video... XD

guess i have to help you. knock code is supposed to make it so instead of double taping on the center of the screen to turn it on which is how it works now, you can have multiple combinations of knocks to turn on the screen. which is what the hand was trying to show you in the video with all the different combinations. that's where they get "knock code" from. the combinations of knocks is the code.

OHHHHH, i see, all is clear now.
If I can unlock my device faster with knock code than with pattern unlock, and if it's as secure as pattern lock, I say yes please. Give it to me!!
Sometimes, not much, but sometimes my phone doesnt even answer the double knock I give it.
Adding more knocks will not be for me unless they up the sensitivity.

I thought the exact same thing. The question is also how complex the taps can be. Feels like there is a bit of a dangerous balance between having some security and actually being able to unlock the phone.
looking forward to seeing someone port this over to g2. the g pro 2 firmware(F350S) has been released and will eventually trickle down to us.. then someone should be able to port the feature.

I don't have any problems with knocking on or off and would love to see this implemented for our phones. Or, as someone else has already said, love to see a dev create or port the new app/feature for us.
Here's a link to BGR's article on it: http://bgr.com/2014/02/18/lg-g-pro-2-how-knock-code-works/
Any changes?
Do you think: will be any port of this function?
We can port it, Someone hand over the system dump of the G Pro 2 please.

For those having problem with the knock on, try double tapping and holding the second tap. It works 99% of the time for me, even when the tap intervals are like 2 second apart!

Actually, i've since reset my device and find knock on/off more reliable.
Thank you!
Still not feeling a knock pattern though, but hope it comes out for those who do!
I'd say the best option would be to use the Knock Code combination as a straight unlock, bypassing the lock screen.
OR
Use the Power Button / DoubleTap to turn it on, dump to the lockscreen, where you'd have to swipe or enter a code like normal.
I like just double tapping anywhere though. Sometimes I pull my phone out and it's upside down or I'm using my other hand which would be awkward. I wonder if the taps would be relational to each other vs orientation of the phone. If you had to make sure it was right-side-up all the time, it would get annoying.
its so unique, i want it on my N4
people who sad about double tap; pls look for the cpu undervolting and min mhz values. sensitiviy of double tap (or tapping scrren) related about it
That's one beautiful phone. Hopefully there'll be a VZW variant before too long and I can get a new LG Flex.

What happened to the android community? There is no need for sarcasm! Dt2w is a very useful feature. You can tap anywhere on the screen to wake up the phone instead of reaching your index finger to a particular point in the back. Why are you against it dear Sir? If you can't contribute anything in the discussion, please don't discourage others.

I see you've never had a device with a physical home button or a tap to wake function. I suggest you remove yourself from this discussion, since those features are time and movement saving when you're doing office work or are driving a car and want/need to make a phone call without holding the phone in your hand (which is dangerous by the way and limits your ability to control the car).
I would like to see that feature but for now am satisfied with the fingerprint sensor to wake and if you guys dont wanna press the power button to sleep,I suggest add the "lock" widget on your homescreen, that solves the double tap to sleep for me.

I believe it is double tap to wake feature that we want not the double tap 2 sleep which is already implemented in cm13 I believe.. Or can be done via gravitybox... Thank you for your suggestion though.
I think everybody is missing the point of this post. We are not bashing xiaomi for not including dt2w. We want redmi to be the developer's phone with lots of useful features. I am an former OPO user and I must say how much handy dt2w is.

yup. i mean i had a opo 6 months 'didnt like it' exchanged it for a lg g3 2gb that i now have 1year i think an im so used to double tap to wake.... every cheap chinees phone has it. i had a doogee f5 with finger print on the back i still used more the double tap to wake then the finger print cause most of the time the phone is on the table and i just wake it up unlock and see notification and lock it again. to lock by double tap i have nova prime. so that not a problem. but to wake it up it would be nice. cause i wont always have the phone in my hand
it would be cool if some one implanted it. or xiaomi.
If they release kernel source, i believe the fantastic devs can implement it in no time...

Interesting topic as I'm used to double tap to wake from my Zenfone 2. Having said that, if you can dt2w you can also reach the power button to wake. I use the lock function in Greenify to sleep as it does two jobs with one tap.
yeah, my last device oppo find 7, and double tap features really great. u dont need to grab whole phone just to check any notifications.
i just bought the phone of aliexpress 163.50euro in gold.
it's the best option in terms of price and quality i can find and to replace my lg g3
there is the letv x800 something. it's a 150eur on gearbest 64gb and 4gb ram and the snapdragon 810. but i dont know, i'm not a really fan off the snapdragon 810 and specialy not on a phone with a 2k screen and 3000mah battery. if i upgrade i want better battery life i have a (2nd phone) lg flex 2 with 5.5 full hd screen and a s810 3000mah and battery life is horible. i just think the s810 is a piece of crap, but i use my lg flex 2 in airplane mode and not overheat or somehing or slowdowns in gta san after 30min of playing
i hope i wont be disapointed by the xiaomi redmi note 3 pro

It was repeated all over in the G5 section, the only unlockable version is the european H850.
Also the H830 has root and twrp, but these are the only two models.
Thats dumb.

One has to realize that the developers who courageously "get root" for us do so on their own time. Not only that, on their own dime as well. In the trial and error process of unlocking the bootloader the risk of nuking their devices is high (and quite a few developers have nuked this model and others). And they go and buy another, so they can continue development. This gets very expensive.
And most importantly, with devices like the G5 - it takes time.
So while it's easy for one to respond "that's dumb", etc - I guess the above points are completely disregarded. Or perhaps not even known in the first place.
Most importantly, we are at the will of the developers. If they feel they are being disrespected, amongst other things - it would not be unreasonable for them to halt development. Please keep all of this in mind.

First of all thank you for responding
Well the point is, with LG stock launcher you can set up pin protection but it works in conjunction with the fingerprint reader meaning that when you unlock the screen with fingerprint phone is not asking for a pin entry. You are however able to double tap to power the screen and then enter pin to unlock if for some reason you do not want to use reader.
Let me ask again Are you able to do mentioned above with Nova and root? Can you maybe test for me

Hey man, I'm also using Nova Launcher on my LG G5 H860 (no root tho - obviously - woe is me!), and I use the finger print scanner AND a pattern. I think LG suspect that the fingerprint scanner alone is not enough security, so they make us use a pattern or pin on top of that. At least that's my guess since I was immediately prompted to add the pin, password or pattern after setting up my fingerprints. Also, upon rebooting, EVERY TIME I have to put in my pattern. The fingerprint alone is not enough to gain access.
I'm guessing it would depend on the ROM you use, not particularly the launcher. But let us know how you go... Have you rooted yet?
Nice avatar BTW. \m/

It's actually a backup option I think, in case when fingerprint reader fails. Makes sense
System is not letting other apps take control over the phone even though they are listed as device administrators. It's a new security measure introduced with MM.
Of course everything changes when you have root privileges
I've rooted the phone yesterday. Nova can now unlock the phone with just a fingerprint. Also installed the Viper audio mod and deleted a few system apps.
Right now I'm investigating how to prolong the super brightness mode so it can last longer than lousy two minutes
Glad to hear someone appreciates the sound of perseverance \m/ \m/

The PIN is, just as you said, a backup security measure. If you're rooted you can go and download a fingerprint add on through Xposed.. that means Only your fingerprint is needed to unlock your device.

Don't have G5 so I can't test or even know if what I'm saying is correct, but I was looking through the G5 git tree and saw the super brightness mode seems to be called HL_MODE standing for LGE_HIGH_LUMINANCE_MODE, there's referenced to it in the code, you could probably edit it there then compile and it will most likely work, however it seems it's also with references to the kernel so you probably gonna have to edit both the kernel and ROM simultaneously to make things easier...

Honor 9 Home Button delay

Hello , i own Honor 9 for 3 days and its very good phone.
Only thing that i "hate" is when i press home button there is like 0.5 sec. delay before it goes to main screen...
I tried Factory reset, phone restart, google assist turned off - nothing seems to work
Finger print scanner works fast. No problem with it.
FW: B150
Any ideas how to fix it?
Thanks
That because a simple touch is like previous. And if you hold for a second you go directly to main page. So it's normal
Mine has the same. Strange thing is that after a few hours usage it turns fast/instant all of a sudden. Then if I reboot it's back to the delay and then fast again after a little time. My first unit did not have this behaviour it was fast at all times. It had a faster fingerprint reader too. Not sure what is going on other than some kind of hardware differences.
Its normal don't worry about that.I too had a donor phone so I know this
That is strange as the Honor 9 has one of the best fingerprint scanners on the market.

That's definitely not normal. I've made a video https://youtu.be/DG4PvJePUAY
You can see a noticeable difference on the left phone.
I'm returning mine as this seems like hardware defect to me.
I have the same problem. Is it really an hardware problem and it is not possible to fix it by software?
Same here. Sometimes it even stops working, but rebooting brings it back (to delayed mode). Unlocking with fingerprint scanner always works super fast though. Anyone else with the same issue?
I got my AL10 version from china some days ago and i dont have any delay issues with the home button. Its really fast without any delay.
Maybe the ones from you that got problems should write down their version and used firmware. So we can compare. I dont think that this is a hardware issue.
I just assumed it was a hardware issue as it stayed even though I did a factory reset. Maybe a future update fixes it but I wouldn't risk it because my phone was new and I wanted one that was all good.

You can just go to the developer settings and tick "animation time" to 0,5

I have been trying so hard to find this feature or a way to root the phone to get it. how is it they can add it to their old Z3 but not their flagship? I LOVE this phone, it has literally everything i want EXCEPT face unlock, come on motorola! One more step! Any one find anything yet?
It didn't come with that feature nor will it get it.
That's super weird. The regular Motorola Edge does have face unlock feature. The Edge Plus doesn't...

Same situation but with Moto G power. It's a so absurd decision from Motorola.
