Microsoft to Release Win10 Mobile for OP2 - OnePlus 2 General

You read it right, Win10 Mobile supposedly is coming to the OnePlus 2.

This is a very smart move by Microsoft. Get their mobile OS to consumer hands without having to buying a new device. I'd try it out definitely, I was looking into the new Lumia's before buying the OP2.
What'd you guys think?

Very interesting. I agree that it's a very smart move for Microsoft. Their dominance of the PC market with the Windows OS is dwindling, with Macs and Chromebooks becoming more popular. The new Remix OS has been getting good reviews, too. It's only a matter of time until Microsoft has to expand to the mobile market.
And nobody's buying Windows smartphones, so very few people would see the Windows 10 Mobile OS, which could be a shame. Windows 10 is the best desktop OS they've had in years, and with it being designed for touch-screens, the mobile version could be worth a look.

Now if we could get Ubuntu's mobile os on the OP2

Wow, that's an amazing news. I would love to try out Windows 10 on my OP2. I always loved the fluidity in windows OS.

Hope to see MultiROM too!

Thats amazing news, Im a die hard android fan, but getting fresh air with win10 when I need is great!

Very interesting news..

But will it support LAF and Fingerprint?

I have been reading news about Microsoft releasing windows os for Android devices as a flashable zip since the time xiaomi's mi4 was released and there has been nothing as of yet. I won't keep my hopes high as we are still waiting to get marshmallow and there are rumors over the net of Android N. Considering the time it takes for oneplus to fix bugs and provide updates it is not going to happen anytime soon.

I always chuckle when I see this claim. OSX has gone nowhere for years and business won't touch Apple because of overpriced/overrated hardware, mental support costs and the requirement for Windows to access any decent business application - the business world runs on SQL.
OSX is totally insecure on networks and their response to patching known exploits is pathetic.

WM7 Rom on Neo ?

Hi All,
Is it possible that install windows 7 rom on neo ?
Very improbable.....:
Wm7 is proprietary closed software, even if you found one for similar hardware you wouldn't have the exact drivers, they would have to be written from scratch, which lets face it phones are obsolete within a year or two so can't really see anyone reverse engineering....
And before anyone mentions hd2 that was a windows phone that has android ported to it a completely different kettle of cats.

Pretty improbable to happen. WM7 is not open source, so you would need to spend a lot of time (and probably money too...)
And just to remember that it is very difficult to a different system, such as the WP7 android on a device, fully functional, stable ... you will have many problems with incompatible ...

If you wanna dual boot Android and Windows why not just buy an HD2? You can buy them for under $250 NIB. I do not think were gonna get WP7 on the Note but maybe we will get windows mobile which would be much easier to accomplish. I still doubt we will get either. Wait a few months and I bet we will be dual booting two Android roms and have a full desktop version of Ubuntu running. Ubuntu For Android is coming! Turns your Android device into a computer that can be plugged into a monitor and run just like a desktop. http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/android For all I know though there could be some techy working on what your looking for right now.
Maybe?
Did the OP maybe mean Windows 8? I know they are releasing Arm and Intel versions. Just a typo hopefully.

[Q] What are the interest of XDA developers to get their hands on Ubuntu OS?

First of all. I'm not a developer. I consider myself a power user.
With that said. I do love the idea of try Ubuntu OS on my SGS3. And when Canonical announced that they are bringing their Ubuntu to mobile phones, I became very excited.
My question is this. How many developers and power users are interested in getting their hands on Ubuntu OS to try to get it working on the devices they own? As an individual, I have no power to go to Canonical and tell them that I am interested in Ubuntu OS for mobile phones. However if we, as the XDA family of users and developers, among the biggest of hobby developers out there, and probably one of the biggest Beta testers you could find, connected with Canonical, there is a possibility that we could get their attention.
I for one would love to see an image for the S3. As a dual boot or just plain Ubuntu on the phone.
So here is my proposal. I would like to create a petition for XDA to contact Canonical on behalf of the members of the XDA forums, to offer our services to Canonical as Beta testers and to make Ubuntu compatible with our devices that we have in our possession. Android is great, but we still don't have the full power of our devices the way we are individuals are yearning for. Ubuntu to me is representing that freedom.
Your comments and thoughts are appreciative.
Hans-Erik
Count me in! I would like to port Ubuntu for my Xperia Neo xD
I'd love a port of some sort - would be willing to report bugs etc.
Well from what I have read Galaxy Nexus users will be able to install Ubuntu for Android on their device in the coming weeks, and with Ubuntus schedule I am guessing late February. Once the installer is out it will only be a matter of time before there are unofficial images for the SGS3 etc.
One thing I am looking forward to exploring is the porting of Android APKs to the Ububtu software.

I think the longest period ive ever used Ubuntu after installing it was for a month after which i started getting frustrated due to the unavailability of certain programs that i used..not sure what release it was but it was at around the same time the iPhone 3G was released. I could get iTunes to work on it but it had to run through Wine and even then i had issues with the itunes recognizing the phone. Honestly, i felt like i had to go through 10 different steps to perform a simple task whereas on the windows it was as easy as installing and just running the program..quick and very convenient. But im sure those issues have long been tackled so ill still give it another try..i hope this time it would be worth it. Thanks for the input.

Not that I think it will make much a difference, but I did sign your petition. Source will be out soon and our guys over here will be all over it. I miss Ubuntu dearly, my companies software will only run from windows and worse yet internet explorer, so I cant wait for a couple of our awesome devs. to take a crack at this.
Hopefully Ubuntu for phones will make an even bigger hit than android and get more Americans running Ubuntu. Then maybe big corporations and companies will stop forcing its employees to use Micro$oft products.

Mozilla OS

I was just wondering if Mozilla OS is worth porting over, I gather its pure web based and could be made as a second OS to what we already have, I mean, the option to have 2 OS is appealing to me, Mozilla OS is very lite as its basically 1 webrowser and that's it. Check it out and give us your thoughts. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/os/, its available now, and can be downloaded and tried out, id like to see it already built in to custom roms.

Ubuntu Touch has never used android as a base, you may be talking about this:
In the original porting guide, we had Android as the main OS, having Ubuntu separated in a container. We had that as our first solution as it's easier to just boot Android and bootstrap Ubuntu once Android is up and running (which was a base requirement for Touch). This architecture was traditionally called 'unflipped', and it's part of the raring and first saucy images we produced.
As we continued developing the platform, more issues we found with such architecture, making it harder to improve the quality for the Ubuntu side (ueventd x udev, full control of the services, upgradability of the compat layer, etc). So to be able to further improve the Touch images, we decided to flip the systems, making Ubuntu as the main host, and separating Android in a container, getting us to what we call 'flipped' images.

XDA Developers has a news section. There was a post here. It states:
Not much is needed to get started. You need to be running Android 4.2 or higher on an AOSP-derived ROM, 2.7 GB of free space, ADB on your desktop and your phone’s bootloader must be unlocked. Currently, this has only been tested by Canonical on the Google Nexus 4, but they state that other Nexus devices should work as well.

The Nexus line is the only true device they are supporting at this moment. You can find a list here with the devices that are/not on the official Ubuntu site.
I doubt we're going to be seeing another Ubuntu Edge coming out. That failed unfortunately but ti was a good project.

It is a business partner, so I'd assume that business partner is making the devices. Ubuntu Edge was supposed to be the team's first device with Ubuntu, but that KicKStarter project failed. But thanks for giving me that information. I personally haven' been following the foot steps of the development of Ubuntu Touch OS in awhile.
I'm thinking this may be the issue:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/DualB...phone_calls_to_work_in_Ubuntu_and_Android_4.4

If the radio currently isn't supported, we would kind of be SOL even with it booted up. They mention a fix, but that requires using a 4.3 radio, something not available to us.
