Hi, i have my iphone for sale now and planning to buy this phone next weekend.
I have had an x10 and arc before.
Some questions now to hear what you think of it instead of reading commercials from Sony
How does changing screens perform. I remember from the x10 it wasn't that responsive and quick and my iphone is.
How sharp is the screen, can i compare it with my retina screen from apple?
I was very active here for years helping thememakers with graphics and everything, are there any devs owning this phone?
If i buy a simlockfree providerfree phone, how easy is it to root ( i typed jailbreak haha) this thing??
Just a couple of concers before i smash 400+ euro out of my pocket.
Cheers,
Arnold
I had X10 & Xperia Arc before, and i can tell you that Xperia S is much much more faster than the other two
About Screen, I don't won iPhone 4s, so i can't compare, but here is a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYnz1S_jxzE&feature=player_embedded
Quick question...
Does the Xperia S has Led notification for message/missed calls like the Arc and the X10?

I came from a iPhone 4 and the screen is better than on the Sony, sunlight legibility is excellent too.
And yes there is a led indicator on the Sony.

Thank you.
The Led notification is the one in the transparent bar? or somewhere else?
Can the colour of the led notification be customised like in the GoSMS app?
I don't have the phone but I answer some things:
There is a LED notification above the screen. I am pretty sure you can customize it's lights.
The transparent bar hold a white light and the phone antenna. As far as I know, it will blink a few times for notifications, and then pass the info to the LED.

- It's very smooth.

Yes, absolutely. I have both side-by-side and the S is gorgeous.

- Yes, look in the Development section.

Thank you!!! First i have to sell my iphone, than i will buy one too

I had the ARC and now have Xperia S, the LED design for ARC was bad, because it's located at the side which makes it difficult to see sometimes.
On Xperia S, the notification LED is much better, as it is located at the front top area. And I feel that it is brighter than ARC.
I just sold my iphone 4 for 350 euro and tonight i will pick up my xperia white 32gb for 360 euro. Good deal in my opinion, only pay 10 euro from my pocket. See you all very soon again!

Damn 360 euros is an excellent price, where you bought it? Because the cheapest Xperia S I have found costs around 440 euros

Thanks! I had the X10 and currently the Arc as well.
Thats good to know that there is still LED notification but i thought it was in the transparent bar
I love the LED light on my SXS, and so glad its at the front of the phone not at the side or on the top like the Arc or Play.
LED colours are as follows:
Flashing Blue: text, incoming call or missed calls
Orange: charging between 10 - 90%
Flashing red:battery 10% or under
Green: battery 90 - 100%
purple/white flash: when making calls, downloading, opening a text, the beginning of receiving a call, when playing music or changing song and also when your doing some other things cannot remember them all right now. Even though the LED notification light just such a small thing I love it and it is very bright aswell.

Hey! I have a Xperia Arc S and im having some issues with the front top LED... It just doesnt blink, it only does when I receive a text or whatever but then it just goes off and only the one on the side blinks.
Anybody with the same issue? What should I do?

Hi.
Today im using lg o2x and im thinking about a change to the xperia.
While looking in this forum i notice that there is some problem in the screen,
Is it in all the devices? Is the ics come soon?
And in the bottom line, is it worth buying?
Compared to the O2X freaking everything is worth buying. Later devices don't have screen problems and we already have ICS and will get CM9 soon.
Yep........... its really good.....
But!
1) battery life = LAME(middle usage 19-21 hours)
2)my screen wakes up in the middle of nowhere without pressing any button
Edit:1 24-29 hours with juice defender ultimate 2:fixed updating the phone
Well my o2x is a fantastic phone, not even 1 problem since i install the cm7.
Ok than battery lame, and "live" screen.
How is the browser experience and the speaker quality?

The models that have yellow display have been mostly phased out. The new ones shouldn't have any problem.
LG O2x will always have an awesome community, for modding its very hard to beat currently no matter what phone you buy next even GS3.
Reminds me of the HTC HD2 scene in scope and modding.
The modding scene will hopefully be as good for the SXS, it's quite good tho largly due to the stock Sony software experience being quite nice all round.

absolutely, yes.
Because its good looking.
And if u dont have any wired needs, Xperia S can fulfill all u life.
I just notice in youtube that the banchmark scores are low compare to the new phones.

You can't judge a phone by benchmark. Nexus 7 is another example, not the best in benchmark, but the smoothest compared to other android device. Same goes to Xperia s, smooth.

Awesome phone, Glad I got it, Screen is amazing, Really smooth on ICS, Speaker is really loud, Looks sexy, Not a bad thing to say about it really, For the first couple of days my screen seemed to have an all over yellow tint but now it's completely gone.
YES worth buying
Camera is awesome!
screen is awesome
looks awesome and unique
Powerfull device,Optimized well.
What about the buttons? I've seen some threads where people say that the buttons are very unresponsive.

Middle button is unresponsive. BUT you get used to it and realize just press a little harder and it will function. don't let the buttons drive you away from this phone. I'm current using/testing HTC ONE X International and Xperia S. So far i'm liking the Xperia S more.
Funny that you ask it here... I looooooove this phone... And the people that hated the phone are obviously not here...

Hi, I dreamed of XPERIA S, I dont like it anymore after 2 months of using, phone gets a lot of dust under back cover, screen is not that awesome as SONY says, it's not that ultra bright and colors are not that super. As for camera I'd say that my old XPERIA Arc took better pictures than this, also picture quality is not that good for 12MP. I really wouldnt buy that phone, I'd go for new Acro S.

-gets a lot of dust under back cover: use case... trust me, case will make SXS sexier..
-screen is not that awesome as SONY says: there are three types of SXS's screens. see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1803723 for me it's really good. i dont why that Sony made those differences.
- As for camera I'd say that my old XPERIA Arc took better pictures than this, also picture quality is not that good for 12MP: try another camera app. i found that LG Camera takes better picture. and no! bigger megapixels dont make it better quality, it's the lens that all count for quality.and i found out that SXS's lens is very good. especially in outdoor (enough lightning). and with no enough lightning (which i havent found any phone that make good quality photo in low lightning), Photoshop will do the trick.
Hey I'm looking to buy the xperia s! I'm currently using the xperia play but its starting to lag out on me. Few questions tho.
1) Should I get the xperia s? Or pay around 65$ more for tje xperia sl? Is it worth for the slight speed boost?
2) Every review I've read says the android navigation buttons suck. They aren't that bad are they?
3) Coming from a smaller phone, I'm worried the xperia s might be too big in the hand. I've always hated big phones like the s3 and note, etc. 4.3 is perfect for a display size but I've heard the xperia s is extremely big considering the screen size. Should i be worried?
4) Any other useful info or comments about your experience with your xperia s!
Thank you!

Hey I was once in the same boat as you, previously owned a Play it died though... Since I bought my S I've never looked back.
1) Just get the S all you get with the Sl is a slight overclock, that's it. Not worth an extra 65$
2) No, they're very responsive for me. I think It's an aquired skill, practice makes perfect
3) I thought this too but the device fits very comfortably in my hand and the screen is amazing
4) It depends whether you plan on sticking with stock or using custom software really
Hope I helped :good:
1) SL has aluminium body, that would be my only reason to choose the SL over the S. I don't miss those 200mhz, really. But 65$ doesn't seem too much for an unlocked phone, unless if it's from say 135 to 200 (on a contract)
2) They tend to be kinda unresponsive, but I found a way to not miss, I slide my finger upwards from the transparent bar going to the screen area, pressing the button on my way up without missing. It's kinda lame when you think about it, but you get used to it, it comes naturally when navigating using the soft keys.
3) The device is actually too big for the screen size, too much bezel, specially up and down. But it doesn't feel unconfortable or anything. It's just a good size phone.
4) My only gripe is that the battery life feels too random. Some days I feel it endures a hard day of heavy usage, some other days it just dies on nothing.

1) Only if you are ready to pay 65$ extra for one of the new colors. Hardware wise it's just overclocked.
2) I don't have any problem with the keys. But I noticed when I hand my phone to other people they often need to press twice because they press really far off. (sometimes they try to press the transparent bar )
3) I had the same thought but I came from an ray (!) got used to the size within two days, now I don't want to miss it.
4) I love the s. It's fast, smooth and the display is amazing. The design is an absolute eyecatcher.
Battery isn't the strongest but it lasts the same as my ray did, and at least a full working day with a lot and lot of usage.

hi guys
i am really stuck between Z2, G3 and S5 (F). mainly because of Z2's overheating issues. i'm not sure weather its fixed or not. i read a topic about overheating in xperia forums and got really frustrated. on the other hand i saw this
http://dl.xperian.ir/files/files/su..._S5,_Sony_Xperia_Z2-[YT-f18][wXsyK5YCid8].mp4
pls tell me of any problems u have encountered with your phone.
cons against s5: less ram, really hot in 4k, finger print sensor, design and elevated camera lens
cons against g3: low benchmarks, 32gb model is still rare in my country, low brightness, users who told me not to buy it
tnx
S5 out now see what u want most and choose between the other 2 screen and speaker volume g3 everything else z2 I had both but choose z2 for Battery, sound quality and camera but like I said decide what matters most to you. oh and the main area where z2 really excel is battery everything else is only a tad better

Just buy anything other than S5, all are good. Issues are because of people nitpicking which applies to all phones. You will be happy with Z2, M8 or the G3.

what about the overheating problem? is it as bad as said in xperia forums?
someone said his phone overheated in every single app ... not only 4k recording!!!!!
what about the new fw? has it solved the over heating?
I don't have any overheating problems with mine. Don't record in 4k but use my phone pretty hard every day and it's not warmer than my IPhone 5 or any other phone I've had.
on what build number?
in another forums someone said after 5 mins of playing mc5 it gets too hot to be held in hand .... is it true?
If that was the I guess after the first 10 no more would have been sold ?

Why not just try it out yourself and return it if you don't like. You seem to just rely on some useless forum thread. Any phone will have their supporters and haters, it all depends on if the phone works for your needs. I normally don't listen to some guy on Internet saying the device is good or bad. I will find time to list out the strengths and weaknesses of the device, try it out personally and then make the decision.

I love love the Z2. I had heating issues ONE day when I was out in 100 degree weather attempting to take pictures the second day I had the phone. None since. It hasn't gotten any warmer than my iPhone did when I was using it for hours.
im also debating on whether or not to purchase.
i am currently using the same factory unlocked xperia z ive had since last march! (the longest ive ever been okay with a single handset)
i love the Z but im afraid its time for a change as the phone has begun to give me so many minor issues(lag, have to restart quite often, phone call users on other end can hear me but i cant hear them etc).
im decided between xperia z utlra, and xperia z2. @ one point i was set on xperia z ultra in purple, but now out of no where ive become infatuated with the xperia z2 in purple. the z ultra not having a flash is its only setback, as i am one who prefers larger screens.
what are the pros and cons of the xperia z2? would any one care to give insight?
thank you.
I am also using phone for 2 months and don't have any overheating issue I was a Samsung user previously and used all the flagships till s5 but I think Samsung overheats more, z2 doesn't overheat and I also don't record in 4k BTW am pretty happy with my phone till now
what about new fw? did it solve anything?
pls help me ....
i'm not sure whether to buy z2 or s5 ....
does ur z2 get super hot when u play hd games?
Z2, for me is better

I was in the same boat as you guys last week. Then I said screw it and pulled the trigger. I am SOOOOO Happy with this thing, it did not disappoint. It is just so much more sexy than the S5 or anything else for that matter. I believe it is even nicer than the upcoming Z3.
I personally hate touchwiz, so I will never want a phone from sammy. Plus all those bloatwares and useless features, they waste your internal storage space and produce no user value (to me at least).
I'm not sure what heating problem you are talking about. I have got this phone for more than 2 months now, yet to encounter any overheating issue.
Some people reported that the phone got really hot and camera app FC when they tried to record 4K videos for a while, but isn't that the same to every smart phone that has the capacity to record 4K?
The only thing I regret is that the price keeps dropping on this thing lately hahaha. But that is good for you. I bought at $580 and now I saw it for $560
I too am in this boat and after reading and chatting in these forums I have decided to got the Z2, I have a S3 now on CM11 and even before CM11 the battery life was terrible. If i do not use the phone i need to charge it every day. It also takes hours to charge if I do not unplug and plug in again the loader.
So i wont waste time on a plastic sammy again. The M8 looks good but I just like the Z2 and it is s'posed to have great battery life.
I am up for a new contract with my mobile on the 16th and I can get the Z2 free with it
so what the hell is all this?
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z2/Overheating-problems-with-Xperia-Z2/td-p/705013
what about vapors on camera lens after you take it underwater?
I would say Z2 is a better choice than S5 but don't buy it yet!
Wait for Z3 to be released and then Z2 should be a bit cheaper and a better bargain
Don't buy the Z2! super fragile, gets really hot when you use it a lot, mine cracked for no reason, screen with small cracks all over, no refund og support from Sony.
What do you guys think? They cost about equal, is the smaller screen worth the extra over clock and Slightly better pixel density? Especially now that 4.4.4 rolled out for the Z2's. Im a fan over the larger screen but the bezels are quite large as well Im *KINDA* leaning towards the z2 though as I can find them cheaper used. Anyone have some helpful insights?
I am actually quite happy about the big bezel. It may look a little bit oldschool, but you can hold the tablet comfortably in any position without touching the screen accidently.
Don't let the pixel density be the deciding factor.
Not once in the last 8 months had i wished for better screen resolution...
I am getting the Z3 Tablet LTE when it comes out in my region. It will become my phone and tablet in one, replacing my Z1 compact and Z2 tablet.
It will fit nicely in my jacket pocket and would mean that i don't have to carry a bag for winter season.
I would not hesitate to buy a Z2. I sold my Note 2014 (10.1) for this tablet. It is fantastic.

I have the Z3 Phone already so im thinking, will the xtra 3 inches be much different? Im going to be using the tab mainly for school, taking notes in one note/evernote and I also get all my books digitally so Im thinking the 10 inches will be more beneficial.

Another great point. I have a note 3. 7-8 is not really a step up. I had to get the ten. The screen real Estate is so worth it. I bought the keyboard case for thirty bucks.... I am very happy with the size and functionality :good:
My Nexus 7 has just died and I am asking myself the same question. Z3 tablet of the larger Z2.
I have a Z2 phone which I really love, and really appreciate the Sony styling. My main use for it will be web browsing and for watching media on it when I travel. I would be interested to know if anyone else has had this dilemma!
I've got the z2 phone and the z2 tab and love them both...
am also looking at the z3 compact tab too "for my partner to replace her old ipad mini" as she's always using my z2 tab.
It does look pretty good....still thinking about getting one...mmm
don't forget to look at the thread see what z3 compact tab owners think..http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-tablet-compact
Same boat here. Had a Nexus 9 but got rid because of lightbleed issues. Currently mulling over a Z2 Tablet or Z3 Tablet Compact, as these seem to have the best balance of design/features and the Sony UI isn't too far from AOSP. Sony's developer support is also strong.
The Z2 is larger so is preferable, and Root/ROMs seem plentiful. However have read about touchscreen issues - have they been resolved via firmware update or is the concensus that there is still an issue with touchscreen responsiveness with the Z2 Tablet?
The Z3 Tablet Compact is faster/newer smaller, but at the moment lacks ROM support, though root seems to have been found. Haven't seen any reported touchscreen issues and no complaints over light bleed either.
I'd love a tablet with AMOLED but can't stand Samsung/TouchWiz firmware so whilst I was initially interested in the Galaxy Tab S (8.4/10.5) the lack of custom ROMs on Exynos continues to be a major concern for me.
Choices
I have had an original Galaxy Tab 10.1, a Nexus 7 2012, a Galaxy Note 8 (still have), and now the Z2 Tablet. I too debated between Z3 Compact and Z2. For note taking, nothing beats the S-Pen; I couldn't stand TouchWiz and replaced that with CM11, and I will keep the Note 8 because it's at least somewhat pocketable and because of the pen. But I love my Z2 phone enough that I wanted a Sony tablet - partly for waterproofness (I do a lot of boating). The note 8 is a bit small for reading technical documents on - works ok as a Kindle reader where you can reflow the text, but shrinking a full page to fit isn't as good. I got the Z2 tab in part because of this and in part because I just like the bigger screen for videos. I have had it about a month, and so far I've been happy with it. It would be nice if it were a bit more pocket sized but then I'd give up the features I like most so I suppose I can't complain. So far no problems with touch, display or battery life, all are fine; I have no regrets. I'm using with the T-mobile add-on tablet plan - $10/month for 5G of LTE, which is more than enough since I'm usually in range of wifi.
