Hi! Tomorrow I'll met a guy to buy a second hand s6 edge.
What should I check? Does exist a code to do a hw test (e.g. *#04#)?
Thank you!
Check the serial number on a website that matches serial number to phones to make sure that it has the correct amount of storage and is genuine. Check that it doesn't have any cracks in the screen

Not really.
Only the "ordinary" checks:
1. Sealed box.
2. Look for "signs" of usage (scratches on the display or cover, etc.).
3. Check the serial number on Samsung's Product Registration web site to verify, if the product is already registered by someone else.
That's something you should be making Samsung aware of. They can probably do something about it. Or being a big multinational company at the very least they can make representations to whomever they have to in your country (consumer affairs or similar).
Hello all, I need to send my g tab to Sammy for repairs, I currently have my product registered, but upon requesting service it says my ESN is Invalid, I'm assuming the ESN is the serial number located on the reverse side of the tab, but when looking internally Settings>About tablet>Status I'm getting a different serial number than the one listed on the reverse side. Is this normal?
I'm currently on CM9 P4 Wifi
Thanks in advance for the help.
They want the one on the back of the tablet. However, is your tab a refurb? If so that's why the numbers are different. Samsung won't touch refurbs, you have to go through their refurb company.
Thanks Breton, I currently have it registered with the serial from the reverse side, yet on the Samsung site it says it's invalid, could it be I have the wrong model registered? There are so many with the same description upon registering the tab. They have at least 10 different p7510 models. No the tab is not refurbished , thanks again

Hey Guys, I've a strange problem here.My friend has bought a used Galaxy S2.
So, I checked the IMEI no. in the "about Phone" and the one printed under the battery, they matched.
but Then i checked the Serial No. in the "About Phone" and the one printed below the battery, they DID NOT match ..Damn how is that even possible, !!
More over that person has given me a paper bill from where he had bought the phone, the Serial No. on the bill matches with the Serial no. printed below under the battery but not with the one in the "About Phone".
Strange this is IMEI no. matches everywhere !!
Please tell me what must be the problem. And what must be done to solve it??Worried
You do not have to worry about it.
Read my post in S3 thread if you are interested.

Why Bro??
What are your thoughts on this??
What must be the exact problem??
coz I own a Galaxy S3 myself. The Serial No. under the battery and in the "about phone" matches !!
Because it has no influence on warranty.
But still, has anyone come across such problem?
Need more suggestions and answers from you guys.
I purchased Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100. Now:
IMEI on the device matches the backside sticker as well as the box.
Device information application from Google Play/Marketplace verifies that it is S2, also all the device information like the CPU/GPU specifications.
AnTuTu benchmark verifies it is S2 indeed, scores 9000+ on Android 2.3.5
Is above enough for verification & confirmation that this is indeed a genuine device?
Someone raised my suspicion over the device so upon checking I found that the SD card slot on this S2 is right under the SIM card slot (and no marking about it, that it is present there). Most of the International version S2s I have found online so far have the SD card slot separately to it's left side. You can see that the battery placement is different too (contacts are to the different side). I am attaching a picture, removed IMEI information - self explanatory so any help about this will be appreciated.
Is there anyway to confirm IMEI of this device officially from Samsung? For example, Apple iPhone and any other device can be checked for Warranty on their website using the IMEI number/Serial number.
Technically, your IMEI will tell you both the manufacturer and the particular model of your phone. Go here: http://www.nobbi.com/tacquery.php, and look up the first 8 digits of your IMEI (first two is the Reporting Body ID, and the next six is the Type Allocation Code). Now, whether you trust this or not is another question - IMEI structure is a public knowledge, and can be faked...
Personally, I have never seen a picture of such S2 hardware design. Looks weird, I would also be scratching my head...
Legit.

Nothing shows up on the above site but IMEI validates from the link mentioned below, on the same page.

I just upgraded to Samsung's 4.1.2 (Android) and it's working without an issue.
Thanks for your quick responses .

That is strange... But when you validate the IMEI, does it actually show you the manufacturer and the model? It should (see attached pics -- the TAC lookup and the IMEI validation).

Hmm, that it does not... for TAC database it says, "No entrys found matching your query" and when I check validity of IMEI. I get the following:
Issued by: 35 (British Approvals Board of Telecommunications (BABT))
TAC: ******** (Unknown)
SNR: ******
CD: *
IMEI: ***************
Check: The submitted IMEI looks valid

Unknown TAC is definitely suspicious, because it's supposed to correspond to a specific make and model of the phone...

You are correct. I purchased another Samsung phone and checked the TAC/IMEI on the site you gave and everything for it shows up. I returned S-II to the shop I purchased it from.
I wanted to ask, are IMEI numbers in a sequence? Because I noticed that the lot of these Samsung S-II's, which he was selling had the IMEI numbers in a series/sequence i.e. the phone I had ended with 082 and I saw another which had the same IMEI number as the first, except ending in 097.

In simple terms, yes, they are sequential. IMEI structure is pretty simple, and it's a public knowledge. You can easily find a complete info on it. The first part (8 digits) is the Reporting Body ID, followed by the Type Allocation and Assembly Code. Then goes the 6-digit Serial Number of the device, and the last digit is a check (a rudimentary validation method). As you can imagine, serial numbers for the same device model on the same assembly line will indeed be sequential...
I've been offered a used S6 128GB which I'm thinking of buying as a spare unit.
However, the seller is not sure if it's a UK unit or a far east import, is there any way to tell from just the serial number of the unit (not the IMEI code).
If not is there any way to tell at all without plugging it into one of the Samsung machines at the service centres?
I don't know, but Settings > About tablet > Software information shows the CSC which indicates which region firmware is installed. In the attached pic 'XAR' is Cellular South, one of several for USA.

Thanks, but that isn't the serial number.
I specifically want to be able to do it from the serial number only.
