display always on? - Asus ZenWatch 2

I know this is probably a dumb question, but I can't seem to find an answer. I just ordered a ZW2 from amazon and was wondering, is there a way to keep the display always on? I know you can turn ambient display on and off, but it still looks like it goes to a low power mode, I was hoping to keep it in full display mode all the time. And if this is possible, how much of a battery drain would I be looking at?

There are many face wich are same in active and ambiant mode, depend of the face not really of the mode

The power drain would be unusable. Probably only last like 6 hours or so.

What dersie said. Try Pujie Black watch face app. Lets you set the regular face and the ambient version. Could simply set it the same which would be a workaround to your problem

[Q] Tap screen to wake up?

Hello All,
Is there an app that can dim the screen of my Archos 101, and return the screen to predefined brightness with the touch of the screen?
My device is mounted on a wall and the power button is hard to get too, so having a screen dimmer that can return the screen to normal use seems like the way to go.
Or what about the screen never going to sleep, but have it do an auto dim down after a set amount of time and with the touch of the screen it returns to normal usage?
At this point I would settle for work around.
T.I.A.
u may try the app "tasker" wich has a function for brightness level...
so u can at set an idle time to turn it down,.. and hopefully also one to "unidle" or screen tap. Sadly im not sure about that exactly as i dont use takser frequently... just try it out
I also remeber an app wich was able to set a little overlay area to the screen on wich u could slide to turn up/down brightness - so u can slide down to turn it off - and up to turn it on (or left/right,...).
Will search if i can find its name... cant remember atm.
Both methods would require to disable auto turn off on idle function...
As u can WAKE UP the device with the screen while it's in sleep.
Hello FrEcP!
Thanks for the reply.
Will look at Tasker now, seems to be many options so I will need to sit down and have tea to figure this out
Screen Filter
Allows you to even set the level to dim screen to. Simple tap on it to dim, and another tap to make it normal.
Hello diablo009,
Thanks, that may be what I need!
I bought Tasker cause it is important to support our developer
Tasker did make and is still causing my brain to tingle!
Will give Screen Filter a try too.

Screen filter is more like a manual one. You got to click on it to enable or disable it.
O.K. so I tried Screen filter and it is a 50/50 solution. Yes it does dim the screen but it is manual whereas I ned something more automatic.
As for Tasker, I have drunk two pots of tea, and energy drink, and gone through two days and still this powerful app is a bit of a challenge to setup.
Anyone with experience setting up Tasker?
OBJECTIVE:
1. After 10 minutes of idle have display dimm to 50% brightness, and never shut-off.
2. With the tap of the screen have display return to 100% brightness.
In exchange for help I would be willing to baking you homemade cupcakes!

yes another problem with screen filter is - it just sets an over lay in gey color - wich means actualy your screen still is at fully brightness (wich is annoying at night /u still got an ugly high glow of the backlight + doesn't save power [k is minor for a wallmount - but still should be considered] )
Well if you would have told that (objectives) more early - your solution would have been more easy
I thought u wanted to completely turn off the screen while being idle....
Anyway:
Settings->Display->Display Timeout->10min
Settings->Display->Brightness->full
Settings->Applications->Development->Always stay on/Stay active...->true
Does exactly what u want - after the timeout (10min) the screen dims (to about 50% or lower) - sadly i can't tell how to affect this value (but it seems its the lowest value the default brightness controll, let u set)
On touch - u got the full brightness... till timeout is reached again.
Device wont ever go to sleep.
Hello FrEcP,
Your instructions worked!
50% auto dim is more on target than before, and I return to baking
Apologies for not being more clear in the beginning.
This is from the Taker Forum:
"Unfortunately you can't do this, Android doesn't provide APIs for apps
to test idle time or respond to screen taps (unless it's in their own
UI)."
Thank you again FrEcP, and diablo009!
You help to make this forum rock solid with your sharing.
workaround with screen filter works fine
I use Screen Standby on my Xoom tablet for this exact same feature. It allows you to set at what time the tablet automatically dims. I have it set for 5 minutes. And then I just tap the screen with my finger and it wakes up. It is also nice to note that tapping the screen does not push any buttons but rather just wakes the device.

Always On watch faces

It's really unacceptable how all those lovely watch designs in the store have the same ugly digital always-on face. Only the first 3 built in watch faces have a corresponding analog always-on watch face. I find this to be a huge limitation of the device and has kept me only using those 3 watch faces.

I'm wondering if this is a limitation to the developer from Samsung in order to make us use those three only or if it's possible to somehow code them in order to have a "quick glance" version of those third party watch faces Anyone?
Oh yes a HUGE limitation and UNACCEPTABLE!!! <sarcasm intended>
Are you serious? Do you have even the slightest understanding of the amazing technology being used in this device, or it's incredible capabilities? And you are stressing over something so incredibly trivial.
Staggering!

Might be trivial to you. The always-on watch face is huge to me. Being a d*ck about it doesn't change anything.
And its unacceptable, because its already implemented and therefore its not a hardware limitation. Samsung are just being retarded in dealing with their watch face developers.

@ozaghloul has a point... Samsung has been "lacking" with the watch face devs, I dont believe they have released the watch face sdk and I dont know if they ever will. The always on feature tends to be useful, I know my watch hasnt always responded to the on "motion" at times.

In fact I find that switching off the motion and using the always-on screen actually saves a bit of battery. Also the always-on screen just looks so good especially at night. Not to mention how much quicker it is to glance at the watch and not have to wait for the motion to wake it up (sometimes unsuccessfully).
All that talk is about the nice analog always on screens of the first 3 faces (also number 6 has a nice analog). Its not about that Fugly nasty tiny little digital clock you get with all the other faces.
It should be fixed already long time ago! I'm not going to buy any watchface until they won't have different "Clock Always On" option.
Just wanna say that i agree that there should be more faces for always on..i use always on and no motion

I totally agree with this. I honestly thought owing a Gear S with my Note 4 would be a much better experience. In reality it's not all it's cracked up to be. Even more so since Watchstyler has stopped working...Lame.
I don't understand how the developers are just accepting this. This directly affects their revenues too, because I am certain many more people will buy watch faces if they become fully functional.

Totally agree with you! I've been patient but now it's just pathetic... Device these days is nothing without proper software and proper updates to its software... I would totally buy some new watchfaces but it's missing it's point without new "Always ON watch face".
There are some really great 3rd party watchfaces but they are missing this crucial factor!
And still, the other thing is that. There should be an option to deactivate "touch to wake" when "Clock Always" is ON. Now, when taking the shower it's going CraaaaAzy! And the same while running with a long sleeve (moisture inside of the sleeve)
1. Hopefully the new sdk wich come days agoo fix this?!
2. Why dont any devps respond?
Hi,
There is only one watch face which has an option to Turn on "Always On". Its name is "Desk Clock". Its free
It is not a "real" Samsung mode Always ON. If we select Always ON on Gear setting we have the classic digital clock and not this. It is just a clock wich avoid the dim mode and force the Gear to not sleep.
Hello everyone, I did the following, there is only one thing you must get used to and you can have your favourite watch face available with the wake-up gesture on, here is what I did in the gear s "settings--> display--> wake-up screen--> select "Last screen". The only down side to this is you must remember to hit the home button to your home screen before going into sleep. When the screen is off and you glance the watch face will appear and not the digital clock from the other non samsung default watch faces.
Remember by doing so more battery will be used unless you select a similar watch face as the digital one. It will show for the same 10 seconds as the digital face.
A bonus to this is that you do not have to tap the screen to wake from the digital clock, you go directly to the home screen, that is one less tap per glance.
Do not forget to hit the home button, you will get used to that or swipe down till you get the home screen.
Enjoy!!!
Whilst I do sympathise with the OP (and if it is a big deal for him then that's for good reason) I do think this watch looks amazing with some of the clocks that are available in the store and to not show them off when you flick your wrist is a bit of a waste really. Also there are a couple of clock faces on the Samsung Store that you can enable always on, they seem to work OK.
I keep the brightness and volume down a bit and limit the notifications to essentials and the battery easily lasts 1-2 days. But I love to see a proper clock face when I look at the watch so for me this isn't a huge issue.
Great

U r brilliant really, great idea and it never came to my mind
Man, coming up on a year... still stuck with the same crappy digital "Always On" watch faces. Anyway around this with root? I just want one of the stock analog "always on" black and white faces with a different watch face from galaxy store.
The crazy acting during shower can be fixed if you turn on not disturb mode
Idont get why there is still No fix for the always on watch Faces!!!
I even tested the always Screen on app , it works but battery last about 6-7 Hours. thow its Cool to have any face You like always Oh

Active watch face on?

Hey all,
So, I have a dark-ish themed watch face. (Ranger). It even goes "glow in the dark" green after sunset. I usually have almost 50% of my battery when I get home to take it off. Is there a way to have the active watch face on all the time? Not a dark screen, not the "ambient" mode, but the actual face on? I can't seem to get that option on.
Also, since the Moto has the flash when it switches between active and ambient, are there any recommendations for a good watch face? I like Ranger as they look similar (not going from black to white, for example), just wondering if there are any that have a seamless (as we can get on the Moto) transition. I want mine to look more like a watch than a computer. Assuming I can't just leave the active display on all day.
Thanks!
I don't believe there is a way to leave the watch face active all the time. I could be wrong about that, but I think that's the case.
As far as watch faces go, try Emitter or Minimal & Elegant.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thaphlash.watch.emitter
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stmp.minimalface
Both do a really nice job of hiding the flat tire and ambient mode looks just like the active watch face, just black background with white text. With Minimal & Elegant, if you make your active watch face a black background with white text, you will never notice the transition to ambient. Even without doing that they both transition between active and ambient really nicely. They're hands down my favorites.
Hope that helps.
Haven't tried it myself but this app should do the trick https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.synetics.stay.alive

My screen brightness dims when I unlock the phone...

-12/7/15 Update -
LG's online chat feature was of no help either. I was told to utilize autobrightness, turn off battery saver, and factory data reset phone. No other options were given except to exchange the device. 3 years these phones have auto dimming problems, and 3 years no answers.
love this phone, but experiencing a strange screen brightness issue.
i do not use auto brightness. Any time i ever put my brightness over 50%, the screen dims itself 5 seconds after unlocking.
but when it's at exactly 50%, it does not dim.
Can anybody help me with this? 50% is bright enough but would like to have it higher without watching it dim like 5%.
anybody? I've had 2 v10's now thru AT&T, i don't know why I'm the only one having this problem

Go to settings, display, brightness.
Make sure the auto brightness box is unchecked.

As it said in my original post, I do not use auto brightness.
Guys, this has been an issue with the G3 as well as the G4. There is simply no way that this is not some sort of widespread issue that everyone else thinks is normal.
Is there some way to override the auto dim? Why is LG the only company that seems to struggle with this feature?

I get that you said that.
But there's two ways to turn it on and off.
And there could be a fault with the pull down menu one.
Or the other way around.
It's a suggested thought, to give a try.

It doesn't work. Nothing seems to work. Lux brightness doesn't even work.
Is your phone rooted?
What is your Screen Timeout set to? Maybe its only set for 10 or 15 seconds so when you unlock the screen the timer thinks its ready to start turning off the screen due to no activity. Just a suggestion.

It's not just your phone or LG that's having that problem and I know this is a older thread but I have a ZTE zMAX Pro and every now and then mines dims after I unlock it. Very annoying because I don't even know what it is that makes it stop doing it. I press in on the screen and sometimes it comes in but I don't know what that's about. And it hasn't always done that it just started the last couple of days.
Use Yet Another Auto Brightness aka YAAB, set max and min brightness both to 50%, start the service and you're all set

Problem!!!! Proximity sensor is always on!!

The proximity sensor produces infrared light even when the screen is turned off. I have also tried turning off options like Pocket Mode, Adaptive Brightness and more. Notably, the light is not visible to the naked eyes. You need to use a camera in order to see the light glowing. Also, this is draining my battery quite faster. Please fix the issue ASAP as I am worried right now.
Same issue here
I also tested it using another mobile's camera. I was also able to reproduce the same problem. I think it is also leading to quick battery drain.
On what rom?
Miui stable with custom kernel has that problem. Pixel experience with same custom kernel does not.

How do you know that it is draining your battery?
Did you use BetterBatteryStats or what is the base for comparison?
I have 128Gb version (global) without this issue. Infra is on when display is on and is off when display is off. Bought in Czech Republic.
Correct me if i am wrong, but proximity sensor should be in on state when you are in a call, in order to turn the display off when the phone is close to ear, or when an app is requesting its measurements to proceed to a specified action. Have it in operating state when the screen is off, or when it is not called to do something is bad behaviour and it consumes energy no matter how much it is.
I'm on MIUI Pie Stable 10.1.3.0 with Stock Kernel.
Apart from call purpose, it is used in Pocket mode, Adaptive brightness(for its proper working), etc.
Edit:
I found a solution to this, Go to Settings>Battery>Scenes and turn off Non-interactive mode.
I turned off that option, I will further update if it increases or decreases my SOT.

Why not to calibrate the poximity sensor by setting, about phone and taping the kernel version, it will turned on engineering mode, choose poximity sensor and test it. Good luck.

Same problem on my poco in latest stable 10.1.3.0. So far I have not found a solution. The suggestions made above don't work.
Lets hope the next build will revert it.
Solved: auto brightness off
Switch off auto brightness and the IR will stop
