I wanted to see if this is a common issue. My Touch Pro has done this a few times so I know it has to be some sort of glitch and not just a one time fluke. I wake up to find my phone with the ring lit up solid (indicating full charge), but the phone will not turn on so I have to reset it. This is a problem because I use it as my alarm clock and it is just freezing at random. It does not freeze at all throughout the day.
Any help or enlightenment on this problem is greatly appreciated!
Are you using something like G-Alarm or the standard alarm on the phone? Also are you using S2U2? If so could be a setting in there.
my phone does this occasionally too without any alarms or anything set...
I have s2u2 installed, but not in use. I use Klaxon for the alarm which also sets the standard alarm for the phone. I use it every night, but it only freezes on occassion.

Not too familar with that one, I use G-alarm which is pretty nice and it works with the standard alarm too and is pretty friendly with the HTC Touch Pro and Diamond IMO. I have never had my TP freeze using this alarm.
Mine does that if there is a bluetooth capable pc on in the same room at night. Strange thing. I just disable bluetooth on my pc and my phone stopped freezing.
Thanks, I'll try switching alarms and see if that helps. I doubt it will do much since I use Klaxon every night and it does not freeze that often.
Hmmm...the bluetooth thing is definitely weird. I rarely have bluetooth turned on on my phone, and I always shut down my computer at night. Did your phone do this even when bt was not on?
Mine does it also and I don't even use the alarm. (Verizon TP)
me too
i have had this happen and so has my girlfriend both sprint touch pro.
she uses the stock alarm i dont use the alarm at all
its only when charging overnight and only about once every 2 months
also we both dont have blue tooth active
i always assumed it was a random wm error
same issue with 6800
I had the same issue with my 6800 (I get the 6850 next week). It turns out that it was some conflict with my podcast software. When it was plugged in and trying to do an auto download it would freeze. I changed settings on how often it checked the net and bingo, the problem stopped.
I think some people have resolved this issue, by going into Today settings and under the Items tab unchecking the Today timeout.
Thanks, I have changed the setting. I will give it a little while and see if the problem persists. Thanks again for your help.
Ive heard of this happening on my ROM as well. It happaned to me once.... And it was on a stock ROM when it did. Dont know if there is a fix.
well so far so good....changed the today timeout under today screen settings, and the phone has not had the issue yet. I will update again after a little more time passes.
I also have this problem on the Verizon TP. I use G-alarm. The problem first happened after I set Sprite for automatic backup at 3 AM, so I thought it was related to that. I stopped automatic backup and went two weeks without a night time freeze, but this morning it happened again. I have just unchecked the Today timeout as suggested here, hopefully that helps. Does anybody have any more to report on the effectiveness of this fix?
No luck with the Today timeout check box. I unchecked on May 8, I once again had the TouchPro freeze while on charge overnight last night. Worked fine for 6 days then the problem recurred. Any other ideas?
this happened to me as i woke up this morning. i am using a far from stock setup with the rom thats listed in my sig & a bunch of other things. i would have a real hard time narrowing this down with all the extras i have going. but i would def like to figure it out. so i'm bumping this to keep people posted.
thanks guys
TP freeze
I am having the same freezing issue. It mostly happens over night while charging but it has happened during the day as well. hopefully someone finds the issue.
having the same problem here. Sprint on MightyRom 4.1x.
I only charge the phone from the AC brick. About once every couple weeks I come downstairs to a locked up phone.
I don't know if it's a bug or not, but when I turn off the display on my phone, it will automatically turn back on after a few seconds. I have no messages or alerts or any setting that I know of that does this, I just can't find a way to make it stop doing this.
Any ideas?
hardware problems would likely be the cause. my girls phone just did that a after a week went compltely blank. SE service center was the last option.
aww really? I did buy my Xperia X10 Mini Pro as a 2nd hand phone and it did have a few dents here and there so obviously it's been dropped on the ground.......but I was hoping it might've been a bug from the rom?
if its a u20i then could be flex which is costly. if its e10i then probably misaligned hardware which is cheap compared to replacing the flex.
it was around 15 NZD for fixing the misalinged hardware (double if it flex problem) but who knows could be a bug of the rom. try reflashing it and do factory wipe

Ya I have a u20i. What's a flex?
I did notice that there's this orange film thing under the USB port, it seemed slightly loose....
the flex is really hard to describe it. try to reflash it first. in that does not work then off you go to SE service center.
After a reflash, it seems to be working fine.
I think it only happens when I plug in the charger, even after unplugging it it would do that 'sometimes'.
BTW could u tell me what that orange ribbon under the USB port is?
sorry i i dont have any clue.
I think I found out what's causing this. I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware problem because the problem always goes away after reflashing it.
However, after I setup my programs and settings, this problem starts to happen. I think it's because I enabled the "automatic brightness" setting. While it's enabled, the screen will turn on every few seconds at regular intervals. But if I disable it, the problem is gone.
So ya, i think it's a bug.
UPDATE:
Ok, the problem is still there. But at least it doesn't happen as much now. I really haven't changed any settings or installed any programs that could've caused this, as far as I know. I've used the same settings and programs on my other Android devices and never had this problem.
It seems others have had the same problem too:

I've tried every suggestion, set wifi sleep policy to never, wifi is turned off (i can't even get it to work properly anyway, as mentioned in another topic I posted). I don't have WeatherBug installed, and since my wifi isn't stable and always drops connection, there's no point for me to sync my data so I unticked that option as well.
UPDATE 2:
Ok I've just noticed that everytime this problem occurs, the screen will turn on 3 times, and then stop doing it for a while, and repeat.
I'm guessing it's doing this because I have unread messages and it keeps showing that under the notification? I use GOSMS PRO and used Titanium Backup to freeze the stock Messaging app, so now I unfreezed it and marked all messages as read, as well as disable the notification in the Messaging settings. I hope this does the trick.....
Sorry for such a long post, but can someone tell me what exactly does this do:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20759383&postcount=2
like, what happens if you change it to a large value compared to a small value? I'm thinking maybe it could be this, as you can also change the settings for the display as well. BTW, this setting wasn't enabled by default, so I dunno if that's the cause or not......

I also had the same issue but was able to get it to stop by doing the following.
- Turn off automatic brightness
- Under advanced settings for wifi, click "Keep wifi on during sleep" and select "never".
Hope this helps some of you.
Also, im running CM9 nightly from 3-5-12

It turns out it was a hardware problem on my fone. I got a new one and haven't had any problems since. Try upgrading to newer CM7 versions, or try out CM9. If not, then go back to stock, coz I've never had any problems on stock even when I was still using my faulty xperia pro.

How do I get back to stock?
i have the same problem after installing 2.2.1. i don't know if they are connecting but for me in this version it doesn't work wifi policy ''never''. every time my phone is idle wifi turns off.
I had the same problem with 2.1.9, then i upgraded to 2.2.1 but the problem was still there, so i analyzed the problem and got the obvious solution, i uninstalled the ram booster app i had and problem solved!! So if you have any ram booster, or task manager or killer or something like that try uninstalling it or changing the settings in that app, i hope to be helpful
i don't have something like that but after a long time i use data and not wifi for internet. i thing that this is the problem
I dont know if it's just something i am doing or this is a problem no one noticed. Using .28 and i noticed the Asus customiuzed settings arent holding as soon as you exit that dialog and come back. Example: ASUS Customized Settings, go to the bottom and select disconnect network during sleep, it will allow it to be checked, but as soon as you go back to it (i noticed this because the unit wasnt sleeping good) it's not checked anymore. Same with WIFI on during sleep, intermidently this changes to NEVER, then i reset it back to only when plugged in..
Someone else try this and let me know if this is something on mine or everyone has this
Thanks!
Mine does the exact same thing. It started after the. 28 update. I use Juice Defender instead now and it does a nice job of keeping everything off when it's in sleep.

I dont understand why no one else noticed this battery hogging bug!
PS. What version of JD are you using, i tried it but i started to have problems where it didnt detect the wifi signal after starting up.
I'm using the paid JD and I have the same problem with it sometimes failing to reconnect. I can usually fix it by opening the app and tapping the force wifi reconnect button and then rebooting. Annoying but better than my battery draining when I'm not using it.
hi guys
i am having some weird problems with my s3, sometimes when i set my screen time out to 30 seconds. sometimes my s3 screen will not turn off, sometimes this happens while charging, sometimes after getting my battery pack full charge my screen will not also turn off, and the most recent event taht just happened is someone just gave me an phone call and i was not able to answer that call; after that event the screen of my s3 did not turn off. i think it was turned on for about an hour.
is the screen timeout features has bugs? if i set it to 30 seconds this weird event happens; to fix this trouble i need to press the power button manually. if i set it to 15 seconds i think it works ok but the time span is too short for me and right now i am trying to observe the 1 minute screen time out. but for me the 1 minute option is too long.
has anyone of you guys also felt that setting the screen timeout feature to 30 seconds is buggy? and what were your solutions to this problem?
thanks guys
I am experiencing a similar problem however I cant pin it down to a certain circumstance or some up with a solution. The problem seems to have started for me after the Jelly Bean update.
Do you have developer options under settings enabled? If so, do you have "stay awake" ticked or un-ticked?
Also there are couple of widgets causing a problem with screen timeout, like "Extended Controls". If you have that installed, uninstall and check again.

I have checked the setting and the "stay awake" is unchecked. Yesterday it was staying on all of the time, but today it only seems to do it when it is on the charger. To weird... I only have a few widgets I am using, Calendar, weather bug, flip book and Google play Music. are any of these causing a known problem?

Do you have Smart Stay enabled under Settings > Display
I know that if my phone is in certain places in the room when I have been using it and just put it dowb the screen stays on as Smart Stay is detecting that I am still looking at it even though I am not just try turning Smart Stay off for a day and see if it stops doing it.

These are not the "usual suspects" but what I can suggest is removing all of them and adding one by one while checking the time out. Its not the best way but its the only way to identify since its not a common problem :/

I will give this a shot and see what happens. I had used these widgets on my old phone without a problem, but it is worth a try.

I initially thought is had something to do with smart stay as well as I did have it enabled, however turning it off did not solve the problem.
Anyone have a solution? I am experiencing the same issue where the screen does not time out... It will work when i do a reset.
I have tried to disable all widgets and thought that worked, but later determined it was still happening. it really seems sporadic. The problem persists consistently for a period of time, but then will work fine for a while, then go back to not working. My battery is dead now because I missed a call, the screen turned on, and never turned off. I am just discovering this 3 hours later... There has to be a solution. I may have to do a master reset, but I just did one due to reception issues and don't want to go through it again. Who knows if it will even solve the problem.
I've noticed this issue since first getting my S3 in July. So I do know it happened with 4.0.4 and now with 4.1.1. I've never used the "Stay Awake" option in the dev options and it still remains off. I've had the issue with both "Smart Stay" on and off. I've tested it with all screen time out times, as well as going through the trouble of factory resetting the device and nothing changed. The only solution I've found is reboot the phone and it will work again for a day or so until I notice it again. Very annoying and would love to find a solution to this!
I am having the same problem with my AT&T galaxy s III only a hard reset (pull battery) will fix it but it comes back at random times. Any updates on this?
Same problem here, it's strange because it just happens randomly.
Some days I will look at my phone and it appears to have a miraculous 50% battery drop. I too keep screen timeout set to 30 seconds...any insight here would be awesomely appreciated.

You need to check for wakelocks,
Wakelocks can be used by other apps to wake your screen, and keep it on.
I discovered it by using Wakelock app :
Wakelock detector at GooglePlay
Anyone else using the auto brightness and notice that it gets unchecked/turned off randomly? Stock firmware here, not rooted. Randomly noticing that the auto brightness is turning off.
I'm noticing the same thing. Have you found a solution?
No I haven't but I'm relieved to hear I'm not the only one lol!
Seriously, I thought I was going crazy too. I looked on Google and XDA but I couldn't find anything specific to the S6 edge.
One thing to note, it seems like mine started happening after I used Moon Reader, which controls brightness independently of Android brightness settings - admittedly this could just be a coincidence though.
It seems like it happens every 30 minutes to an hour for me. If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated.
Extra Info: running a Tmobile Galaxy S6 edge with the latest update.
I also thought I was the only one with this problem. Fwiw, I'm not using moon reader and I've noticed the auto unchecked after 30 min give or take of being checked and it pisses me off because battery life is not the best...
Please let me know if you find a solution. Did previous galaxy phones had this happen? I'm coming of an htc one m8 and never owned a galaxy before.

Still looking for one personally... the only other galaxy phone I owned was a s3 and that never had this issue.
LOL, glad i saw this...thought the phone was unlocking in my pocket and accidentally doing this. I also find the auto brightness is awful. Way to dim. Wish Samsung would have used Lollipop's adjustable display where you can adjust how aggressive the auto brightness gets.
I don't really have a problem with the dimness, I just wish it would stay checked...
Same thing with the S6
As others mentioned, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I just have the S6, not the edge, and am having the same issue.
I got a software update last night at around 2am EST through Telus and I haven't had the auto brightness turn off on me for a few hours now. Used to happen once every 30mins-1hour. Seems to be fixed!
Can you test the Fingerprint and Bluetooth trusted devices bug? Set up a trusted device and then connect to it. Then unlock the phone and wait for the screen to turn back off. Then, try pressing the home button to see if it lets you right back in to the phone, rather then having to do the damn swipe screen
many things not working
Hi
I have marked that many things are different in S6 and many many features are missing
1) Auto brightness gets disable on its own
2 ) Edge notification getting disabled
3) Open background tab opting missing
4) Switching between chrome tabs needs left hard key
5) Apps are crashing
6) Annoying Mobile data disable popup window!(with no option to disable it)
7) Long pressing Mobile data options opens up data uses rather than network settings!
8) Quick view can't be expanded by dragging it with two fingures!
9) Syncing is not good
10) people can hear me well on phone.
11) No guest mode!
I get more of a feel that I am using iPhone than S6! Many user settings are missing
Fixed itself
Strangest thing, seems like as of Yesterday midday or so auto-brightness is staying checked. No Idea what changed, I didn't change anything in terms of settings/restarting/etc. I will update if this changes but it is very strange...
Disable Car Mode
By disabling Car Mode, my auto brightness stayed on so far. You guys could give it a try!
found a solution!
So I was trying to fix the battery drain issue by deleting the cache according to another thread, and I noticed that the auto brightness hasn't unchecked itself since, is been about 12 hrs so far but I couldn't go 20 minutes without this happening yesterday.
Give it a try and see of it works for you, it might improve your battery life too, mine seems to be better but is too early to tell.
In case you don't how to do this, here is a copy of somebody's else instructions on hire to do it:
"Turn the phone off, then press and hold volume up + home button + power button all at the same time. You'll see a message saying "installing system update", which will display for a moment, and then you'll enter recovery. Once in recovery, select "wipe cache partition". Reboot, and your battery life will be much improved"
