Hey,
The EFS partition of my mums S3 (i9300) was broken (did'nt boot, recovery coud'nt mount it), so i restored a backup.
But the problem is: it was'nt the backup of her phone, it was from the s3 of my brother, i did'nt thought about that...
I know, before that, it could be much easier to restore the imei, but i can't undo that step.
What i did so far:
1) restored efs partition of another s3 => booted up, but no connection, Unknown Baseband, null imei...
3) i used kies to switch to stock (from cm13)
2) i wiped the efs partition => baseband was okay, imei became 00499...
does anybody have an idea, how to make network working again?
I know, if you change the IMEI thats illegal, but i want to restore it's own IMEI, so i think if i would find a good method to change the imei, it could work (PM me, if you do not want to lead people to illegal stuff)

He didn't try to unlock it did he??
You ever figure it out
I have the same problem. somebody please help me
I have the same problem as well, happens randomly on my vibrant. No service and imei null/null. flashing thru clockwork doesnt change it but odin fixes it temporarily.
I take it that nobody backed up their original EFS folder and files..
When rooting you had to back up your original EFS folder before trying to unlock your device!
EFS contains sensitive IMEI information.
I don't think you can recover the imei if you never backed it up to begin with.
So you might have null/null IMEI or even a fake IMEI 0000XXXX <-- something like that.

I did backup original EFS and restored as well. It shows my original IMEI but randomly my phone shows no service and my IMEI is reset to null/null. If I remove battery and reboot phone everything works fine until God knows when.

Help.
The IMEI under the battery differs from the one under service code. It looks like it's been messed up after flash'ing. It shows 004999010640000 instead of the correct one. I know the original IMEI, how can I restore?
Do you have a backup of your EFS folder? First thing you should do after rooting your phone before flashing a ROM.
Chris.

Restore the EFS backup you made. Hellcat's kTool on Google Play will enable you to do this.
No, I did not do a backup before flash'ing, I am just a newbie. I tried to use gs2 repair and other things, but they do not help me. It is still the same IMEI. However, everything on the phone works fine, expect the IMEI number.
Can I fix it on my own or RMA is the only way?
Hi
i did a mistake by flashing my S3 and erased the IMEI. I have any backups from the efs folder.
Now the phone cant find the SimCard and cant connect to the GSM Network.
Is it possible to restore the IMEI by another software based solution?
Or ist my phone scrap?
Thx

jje
Thx for the Information
Any idea how much it will cost?
$350
In fact you can restore your IMEI if you have one (f.e. it should be printed on box with your SGS3), my friend successfully restored his EFS by downloading filestructure and replacing some variables like imei, BT mac etc.
Search for QSTP to repair imei of the phone.

It is better to unroot, reset flash counter and send it in for IMEI re-programming.

Of course it's better but sometimes you can't send it for whatever reason .

I have a GT-I9300 international (exinos processor) and wile flashing custom ROMs my IMEI got messed up ...
Now the problem is that i have not a EFS backup and i don't know if Samsung Warranty will fix me a phone with "strange" IMEI with no charge.
Thanks in advance.
Hi there.
I have a ROM backed up via recovery and I am pretty sure I have backed up my EFS as well.
However upon restoring my phone to stock, I noticed upon boot that I had the generic IMEI number (004999010640000) and have been unable to make calls etc.
Upon noticing I had to re-root and install recovery (PhilZ Touch 5, CWM Base version: 6.0.3.3) to restore the ROM and hope it restores my IMEI which it didn't, next I looked for my EFS in a folder called EFS_Backup and in there is 'efs_05Aug2013-2257.tar.gz" however it appears to be empty.
I don't know what to do as I am out of warrenty and I thought I completed the steps, theres no .bin or .img files I can find.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.
You have to restore it using custom restore from philz

Thanks - I've tried using "Cusrom Restore Job" and selecting EFS, however it does nothing, and my IMEI number remains the wrong one
Did you read my imei / efs thread in general > sticky roll-up?

you said efsBackup.tar.gz is empty so which means its 'bad' backup . so obviously it won't work.

Looks like I am f****d then
How big is the .tar.gz file? It should only be 80Kb
If zero size then yes, you are screwed unless flashing a full stock 4.1.2 rom via odin makes the efs readable again (make sure it's an EMG ROM if you've EVER flashed an EMG rom to your phone)

Just an update, I managed to get my IMEI number back by flashing the MG_Basebands.zip, however the altered EFS seems to affect the GalaxSimUnlock from working as it says the phone is "Unlocked" when it's locked to Three UK.
I am just glad the phone is working.
Hello lads. I have really really big problem with my I9300. I upgraded jellybean from 4.1.2 to 4.3, everything works perfect, but one main problem appears, I can't call, and receive phone calls. My samsung says that i'm not registered on network. I tried to install modems I've rooted device, and nothing happens. Today I decided to downgrade 4.3 to my previous 4.1.2. And surprise surprise, same problem Not registered on network. By the way my IMEI is normal. What should I do next? Any advices? Thanks

Hi.
Check for your Serial Number.
Go to, Settings, More, About Device, Status.
If it's 0000. It's corrupted. Also check for Baseband sometimes it shows unknown.
You have corrupted your EFS.
Backup your current EFS before you do anything from this point forward. You can try using PhilZ CWM.
Best bet is try to flash latest 4.3 Rom using Odin.
I9300XWUGML4
Try to restart your phone.
Yes, my serial number is 000000...

Same problem here. In my case, the problem is slightly different. the phone was a XXEMG4 that i had to downgrade to unlock and consequently recover IMEI. After recover IMEI (I didn't make an efs backup…) i upgrade to 4.3 and can't register on network.
I've been making a lot of research on the subject and i understand i should made a backup of the efs, but i didn't…. My question now is:
Is there any possible way to restore the efs module in v2 permanently, so we can flash another rom without losing it ?
thats the 1.000.000£ question for me

Your efs is corrupt, patched modem may enable it to again be read but will have to be patched reach time you flash new firmware/modem.

Makes no sense, you can restore a backup at any time. If you've already corrupted efs without making a backup then things can only get worse if you don't start making backups before you flash.
Lads. Now my IMEI and serial looks alright, but there's still one but. Internet is working with my SIM card, but I still can't call and send messages. In status:
Network: Meteor
Mobile network type: UMTS
Service state: Out of service
Signal strength: -99 dBm 7 asu
What should I do now? By the way, I've tried to reset factory settings, restart couple of times, when I'm trying to register on network, device says me TRY LATER. Oh, and when I turning my phone on, and PIN shows, it saying that my SIM CARD IS LOCKED, EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY
Sim locked to network ask your vendor to unlock .
