Hi everyone! I installed a custom rom (PureX Z2 Premium v1.0 23.4.A.1.264 5.1.1) yesterday and everything seemed to be working great. But when i left home today and i lost my wifi connection, i noticed that the phone didn't establish any 3g/4g connection. So i looked around in the settings and realized that i couldn't activate mobile networks when i had wifi enabled, but when i disable wifi, the mobile network works like a charm.
I installed the rom from an unrooted, stock rom device, and it wasn't any problem to have both wifi and mobile networks activated pre custom rom installation. So that mobile network took over when i lost wifi connection. I thought this was standard behaviour for android?
Anyway, im wondering: Could this be a problem (or even a "feature") in the custom rom? Anyone else had this problem? Is there a standard android option in the settings for this? If not, is there any app/xposed mod that could fix this for me?
just re install the rom, I had the same problem with PureX Z2 v11 the first time, after that so far no problem.
I hope you serve, Greetings
Thanks for the reply!
Should i redo the entire process including wipe data / factory reset, or can i just re-flash the rom without losing any data?

I'm having a problem since I flashed the sensation rom (by crysis21) on my SGS2 yesterday.
My internet connection (mobile network) doesn't work anymore
I checked the APN settings and already resetted them and enterd my APN settings again. But it still doesn't work. I also restarted the phone multiple times.
Does anybody know where the problem is?
Installation steps were:
*copying the rom to sd
*CF-rooting the kernel via Odin
*booted up in CWM recovery and chose "install from zip file" and installed the rom (without any wipes)
Before I had the default samsung factory rom on it.
Have I made a mistake?

Have you checked the APN settings are the good ones? One thing is to have ones enabled and other totally different is to have ones that actually work.
Also when you go from Stock to Custom ROM you should do a full wipe!
Go to CWM and format /system, /data, /cache and reinstall the ROM.

thanks, I'll check this out as soon as I get home.
I refrain a little from doing a full wipe because I don't want to get all my apps deleted (and I'm a little too lazy to perform a backup). Would mybe a new modem solve this problem?
And of course I checked the APN settings. I deleted the existant APN setting and added a new one so the settings can't be the problem.
I also checked some entries in Settings/Phone Info/Status.
It says here (translated from german):
Mobile Network Type: HSDPA
Service State: Function (or working rather)
Mobile Network Status: Disconnected (but sometimes it says also connecting here, though it never really gets conencted)

Even though I wiped everything, the data connection still doesn't work.
I did
"Wipe data/factory reset"
"Wipe cache partition"
"Wipe Dalvik cache"
and after that I installed the Sensation rom zip file again.
The data connection still doesn't work :'( (I added the APN after install, of course - the settings are 100% correct).
I also installed another rom (infected rom) but there's still no data connection.
Am I missing something? I'm getting really desperate over here.

You could try flashing another Stock ROM via Odin and see if in stock works or not, then try a Custom ROM.
Sometimes the phone takes a while once you flash a new ROM till it establishes a decent 3G connection. Having "Data enabled", how much did you wait for the phone to establish a connection?

I thought so too... Well, at work I waited some hours for the data connection being established but nothing happened.
This is crazy. I even restored my system with CWM and it still ain't working.
As soon as my GF comes home I'll replace the sim cards. Maybe the problems at the providers side...
after that, I'll try a stock rom (via odin).
thanks for your tip

I have the same problem and I'm on check rom.
i'm having the exact same problem, but with multiple roms and not just one. i tried omega and delv. both of these are giving me no data connection (only at the beginning) but once i restart there's no data connection.
did you manage to figure out what went wrong? I've resulted in my original rom that i had by restoring it using cwm.

Hello all,
I have searched the various posts and threads relating to my issue but have not been able to find and answer so here it goes.
I am all of sudden having a tethering issue with my s2. I used to be able to tether my laptops and any other cell phone to my s2 as a wifi hotspot. I am rooted with the stock 2.3.4 rom. uckh7, kernal version 2.6.3.5.7 that has CWM. I have titanium backup pro installed and have always had the tethering mangager app frozen. Now my laptops and other phones will show connected to my s2 network but will not connect to internet even after rebooting ipad and laptops.. I can connect ok using usb tethering. I have tried configuring the hotspot app with and without security, tried various passwords with and without alpha numerical sequences, I have tried FoxFi, and the latest WiFi tether app, and all have same results. I have removed the tether manager completly using TB and still same. I also performed a restore from CWM and still the same. I have not performed a factory reset yet because I believe all that does is remove all user data, not change the system data. I don't want to bring it to an ATT service store because I don't want an exchange unit that will more than likely have the 2.36 rom.
I don't know if I should try to reflash with the stock 2.3.4 or what??
I am at a loss right now.. Sorry for being so wordy, I just didn't want to forget anything if i could.
Any and all thoughts, advise, recommendations appreciated
Thanks
Did you flash the zedomax kernel? It's known to mess up wifi. Flash back to stock.
thanks for the reply,
I flashed codeworkx kernel 5.0.2.3 with cwm. used supeoneclick root to root phone.
wifi has always worked and still is.

Maybe try unfreezing what's "always frozen"? Might be worth a try.

I have unfrozen tethering manager, unistalled it thru tb and reinstalled. If I try to use mobile hotspot without tethering manager frozen or uninstalled I get the warning that my account is not provisioned for tethering. If I freeze or uninstall the tethering manager than I can use the mobile hotspot and other devices see my network and connect, but no data is transferred.
Should I just reflash the stock 2.3.4 rom?
I can use tethering ok with my rooted captivate running Cog 5 gingerbread rom ok.
any thoughts??
Full wipe is going to be easier than bug hunting. And yes, a full wipe does clear out ROM settings and files which brings it back to its "default" state. To do a full wipe make sure you:
1.Wipe data/factory reset
2.Wipe Cache
Under Advanced in CWM
3.Wipe Dalvik Cache
4.Wipe /system
You should flash jivy's kernel cleaning script as well before flashing entropy's kernel (mostly just a good practice to have). Hopefully this will clear up your issue.

Thanks,
will try this evening and report back on results.
quick question regarding wiping and clearing cache, etc.
will I loose root after cleaning??

No, as long as the rom you're already on is rooted it will stay. Again this just resets THE ROM to default essentially. The personal data on your internal SD will be for the most part untouched, just the app data will be gone, and a essentially fresh rom install.
Edit note:5 mins is a rediculous waiting period TO EDIT A POST.

thanks for that.
sorry for the delay in reposting question, posting between clients at work.
appreciat the help
ok. wiped everything cleaned kernel, installed entropy's kernel.
still the same.
I did notice something peculiar this afternoon. tried using the hotspot app at work where signal is poor. co-workers phone was able to connect to my hotspot and get on internet until i noticed my signal jumped to Hspa+ then he lost internet?? any relevance to that??
I wiped, did reset, cleaned existing kernel, installed entropy's kernel. Tried again but still no devices could get data signal thru my hotspot although the connected to my network. I was playing with a coworkers phone later and his phone was able to connect and receive data. I noted at that time that my phone was only on 3g data not 4g. As soon as I moved the position of my phone to where it received a 4g signal then my coworkers phone would no longer receive data thru my network??? any significance to that????
thanks in advance for all your time.
:thanks for all the responses. Finally solved. On a whim I went into mobile network settings, went into APNs and hit "reset to default" and retried the mobile hotspot again and now everything works, all my devices now receive data and can connect to internet again.
thanks again to all.

Greetings!
No matter which KITKAT ROM i flash - Paranoid / Snapshot / Archidroid, i never can connect on any wi-fi.
Yes the password typed is corret, the signal is strong to excellent quality, and no matter what i try, the system doesnt get any connection through wifi.
3G is working fine tough.
Anyone has any idea about what it might be? The ROMS run just perfectly, but no wi-fi is just not bearable lol.
BTW....i restored my previous system backup which runs on SENTINEL 6.0 ROM and the wi-fi connects just perfectly...
Samsung S3 I-9300
Please any help....thanks a lot

Have you tried a proper clean install? As in wipe /data /system /preload, cache and delvik cache? (Always backup)
Some roms require a restart before wifi works, not doing a clean install, or using an incompatible kernel can also cause.
Yeah I had done a complete wipe before installing it. And also I had performed several reboots with no success after it.
The weird thing is that 3g connection runs flawlessly.
No clue at all why is this happening.

Have you tried other wireless connections on kitkat?
Hi,
I recently changed my ROM from Cyanogenmod (some of the last nightlies; so Android 5.1.1) to a custom rom called "existenz".
After successfully flashing the 6.3.5 Premium Update to my phone, the mobile data stopped working correctly.
Whenever I try to enable mobile data in my settings, the trigger simply goes back to disabled.
Reason for ROM change: I didnt want to use nightlies anymore and this ROM seemed perfect for my phone.
I tried several restarts, but nothing changed.
I flashed the ROM with TWRP.
Thanks in advance,
Pascal
(If nothings helping, whats your custom ROM you could suggest me?)
I flashed the latest nightly of cyanogenmod again. Mobile data is working now. Guess I'm never leaving cyanogenmod.

Are u sure u enabled ur APN settings from settings/more/internet settings?
For ur information only CM roms will enable Internet Apn automatically after flashing rom. Sony custom roms did not enable Internet APN automatically. We need to set it by ourself or u can install internet APN from settings/more/internet settings
@Rajeev
Good point. I read something about "allow only IPv4" - so I changed that - rebootet my phone but still nothing.
I cant remember tho about anything saying its disabled. Might give it a second try then, havent fully configurated my phone yet.
Thanks.
Only turn ON internet data and go to config / •••More / internet settings- Download settings for Internet and MMS
Okay, so I've been trying lots of different roms on and off, all of them seem to break mobile data.
I'm on Mobile Vikings in Belgium, on the Base network.
Anyone else experiencing this?
As it occurs with any rom, I'm pretty sure it's not rom specific (also obviously most users aren't facing this issue).
Also, reverting to a backup of OxygenOS breaks mobile data as well.
Really frustrating as this means I need to do a full wipe, re-install stock oxygen and set up my phone from scratch...
On most roms APN settings are automatically correct (sometimes I need to select the right carier, sometimes I need to make a new entry when my carier is missing). Anyways, after a setup it always all looks like it should just work.
Regardless, when switching on mobile data, no 3G or LTE or even edge icons appear in the status bar and the phone remains offline.
I really hope I'm being stupid and there's some solution. As of now I'm forced to stick with OOS Lollipop if I want mobile data (which is a must have feature for me, as I'm sure it is for most).
Actually just finding out I'm not the only person dealing with this frustration would already be comforting to be honest
Backup efs from stock rom. Restore it after you flash a custom rom. And also reset apn settings after the phone boots up.

Thanks for the fast reply! I will try this solution after work & keep you posted!
Is restoring EFS often a necesity? I've been flashing since my zte Blade days, never needed to backup EFS before... Maybe just lucky so far?
I have the same problem. I'm on Mobile Vikings too.
zTweaked's tip worked like a charm! Thanks again man!
Posting this on Exodus ROM on LTE btw
Highly recommend following his advice to all Mobile Vikings (or anyone else facing this issue)!

Welcome, mate. I often face this issue. Sometimes rebooting my phone gives me problems like this. Restoring EFS is the easiest way to fix.
