hey all!
Considering an update from my Honor 6 this spring some time and was wondering if you recommend the honor 7 or the nexus 6P?
or other huawei models? one thing that has been an annoyance for me lately is the lack of ROM's for the Honor 6, its something I have missed dearly. I guess if i had chosen a "top" model, like samsung S6 or S7, theres probably plenty, but then theres also the matter of how much money to shell out on a phone.
so in shorter terms:
*i want/need a phone with plenty of ROMS etc.
*battery needs to be decent
*regular and timely android updates
*i have normal hands very average, lol
*most of all, i want to feel its a great bang for the buck and still not break the bank(this is why i loved my honor 6, great performance to price ratio)
any insights welcome
my friend, you're describing a Nexus.
i'd say go for a Nexus you won't regret it. I'm a happy Honor7 user but what you need you won't find it in the Honor7.
Nexus all the way if you want the best. But if you want a good phone for a low price then the honor 7 will more than do the job in specs and in actual use. It's the best budget phone by a long shot.
I'm coming from a nexus 5 and apart from the honor 7 not being as comfortable in the hand it actually beats my old nexus 5 in all other aspects and daily use.
thanks, this makes my choice a little easier. going to a store one of these days and check how the 6P fits in my hand. it just seems to look crazy big for some reason
Check out the honor 7 in a 3 mobile store they have them in stock. The honor 7 looks better in real life than in any you tube video and is very responsive.
Just noticed that the nexus has no sd card option which is a dealbreaker in my book... But perhaps getting the 64 gig version could be ok
Honor, good price flagship from Huawei. Not many ROMs but as you see we have 2 already ;D Nexus is just Nexus that phone is and will be the best, clean Android, fast updates, every Beta Android is going first to Nexus devices (like the new Android N right now). If you don't need all that, you can pick Honor. He is fast but EMUI is something very different. Just check it out on YouTube.
Would run away from SD810, like the one Nexus 6P have inside. Overheat/throttle from this SOC is well known, despite some revisions. Also with that SOC and high density pixel, battery is not great as Honor 7 (3100mah vs 3450mah). You have a 128GB version, though, but the price should be quite steep.
Right now, with the release of SD820 and Helio x20 its very premature to go to a flagship, before the dust settles.
Edit: The phones with the most 3rd party ROMs are the most sold and/or opened to development.
Seems like its a good year for tax returns so im thinking about a flagship from somewhere, so ill think it over a little more
Heya guys o/
Im about to buy a new phone (a mid range one) and after a lot of search, reading and viewing reviews and comparisons in last couple of weeks i was decided to go for Honor 7, but meanwhile i have the chance to buy a Huawei P8 at same price and now i cant decide between these 2.
I would like to have a phone with a solid build, premium feel, good photos and good overall performance and also need the 2 sim slots. I guess they are pretty similar but with some differences that are making me doubt about which one is a better choice ^^
among other some other differences, Honor 7 have the fingerprint sensor, the 20MP camera and 3100mAh battery but Huawei P8 have a better look, its thinner, better screen (?), OIS that should make photos better in general and USB host.
im completely lost and dunno which one i should buy :/
What u guys think? Honor 7 or Huawei P8?
which one you guys would buy? which one is more customizable? something that made me worry about P8 was not to found here a dedicated forum to it ^^
Thanks in advance - i need your expertise
Cheers all
--- edit ---
ps. btw i read somewhere that EMUI dont support multi-user... is this true? and what this really means? i need to access lot of accounts, 3 or 4 personal and 4 exchange company accounts ^^
Both, H7 and P8 are flagships and both are doing great. I am using my Honor 7 for months now and I am in love with this phone. Nice photos, no lags and so on. The phones are twins like. No big difference in performance.

eheh thats why the indecision
thanks for ur reply mate :good:
A plus point for the P8 is the optical image stabilization.
The honor 7 is also not that thin.
The p8 feels a bit like a bigger iphone 5
But I am very satisfied with my H7. The camera is good, just the battery life with Android 6 is not good. But if you don't need the latest Android for now, you are good to go with both phones
Honor 7 is thick and heavy like a rock, no optical image stabilization. 20 Megapixels does not matter at all. Why would you want 5000x3000 unsharp photos? Besides, Galaxy S7 has only 12MP and takes superior photos.
I had Honor 7 for three weeks, swapped it for LG G4 and haven't looked back.

Yeah, because comparing a 700€ phone with a 300€ phone makes much sense
Besides, you are right, 20mp doesnt matter that much.
But here too: try to find such a powerful phone with a quite good camera in the price area up to 300€ (got my h7 for 250 btw).
Huawei p8 all the way. You spend most of the time looking at your device. And to be honest p8 is the best looking device i ever owned and i have owned a lot of flagships. The fingerprint scanner seems a useful thing to have on the H7 but after a while you will stop using it because it becomes more of a hindrance. The only downside of having the p8 is that it doesn't have developer love, so u will not find custom roms. For now there is only 1.

Also the steep price tag of P8 is different.
H7 is a little smaller but also a nod thicker, 13g heavier, but with a bigger battery.
H7 has better main-camera, more advanced wifi (ac) chip, snappy and reliable fingerprint scanner and infrared.
If you have the money and absolutely love the P8, then go for it. Otherwise the smarter choice is obvious.
go for h7. i currently use one and im inlove with it. i had the p8 and compared between the two h7 is much superior in terms of camera, fingerprint to unlock and a slight superior wifi. and specs of h7 is almost similar with mate s with a much lower price tag
I bought my 6P on January 2016, and started with the battery issue on November. I thought that was a software issue, and I restored factory settings a few times, but nothing worked. In my case, I have 80% of the issues when the battery goes to 15% ... and immediately shuts down. Also, sometimes when it's at 30%, 20%, 40% .... I have tried battery calibration... but nothing solved the problem. It's frustrating.
About the temperature....I live in Majorca (Spain) with temperatures between 10-25 degrees, so I think that, in my case, is not connected.
If I add that I have bluetooth issues with my car since I upgraded to 7.0 ... and sometimes I have echo during the calls .... Maybe my unit is wrong. Anyway, my general perception is that it is the best smartphone that I've ever had and I do not want to lose it.
I purchased my nexus with amazon prime, and I contacted them and they offered full refund (1 year later, amazon is amazing for me). I am considering to buy OnePlus 3T .... but I do not know if I can handle the camera quality lost or the audio difference .... The rest of things maybe the OP3T is better option ....
Do you think that, considering that the refund my money, is a good option to change to a Oneplus 3T?
Best regards,
:good:
P.D: i cannot buy Pixel XL because is not possible to buy it in my country, and I am not interested to add money this time.
Buy another 6P. Mine works well with 7.1.1.

I have nexus 6P and my family has all three versions of one plus. If you are getting a full refund then i would recommend One plus 3 or one plus 3T. Even though nexus 6p is a great phone its still out dated in 2017

I agree. I love my 6P, but buying a 3T is now a better option, future-wise. And it's certainly an awesome phone!

I think that the OP3T now is a better option in terms of speed, hardware....and also, Oxygen OS seems to be a very good alternative (they also have good update policy).
But the camera...Nexus 6P is still one of the best smartphone cameras...S7 edge...I hate touchwiz...Pixel XL...too expensive and not available in my country...HTC 10 is too small.....So there are not many options with a very very good camera...

You could always wait for the One Plus 4 which should be released in June/July. I would take a refund on the 6P and get a OP3T though I don't trust the 6P hardware anymore.

No, the 6P has a better camera. The OP3T came a is quite poor especially in low light.

that's the point...
OP3T: better processor, more ram, better battery life, very good software, the best fingerprint sensor. Cons: camera quality far from the best cameras...
vs
Nexus 6p: nexus software, a little bit outdated hardware but working very smooth, stereo speakers....and one of the best cameras. Cons: battery issues, bluetooth issues (in my case).
Hi, sorry to hijack the thread but I also have the battery issue with mine...purchased in November 2015 from eBay seller who purchased from CPW. According to Huawei website the phone is still under warranty until December 2017. The phone's battery was absolutely atrocious with Android 7.0 update... It didn't last at all and regularly shut down suddenly at 50/60%...sometimes it reached 15/20% before it shut down!
I was running custom ROM then... However I've gone back to stock a few days ago and the battery life has considerably improved but unfortunately it shut down suddenly at about 20% today!!!
I'd like to know if I should be able to return the phone under warranty and who I can return to? Google, Huawei or CPW?
Thanks in advance.

CPW won't do anything and neither will Google because you didn't buy it from the Playstore. Huawei is your best bet but they're denying the problem and saying it's Google's fault.

Yeah, contact Huawei. They may or may not replace it though.
Dont waste time with huawei or google.go on eBay or Amazon and type in Cameron sino battery for nexus 6p ,buy it and pop it in. Profit
OnePlus 3/3T/5 have plenty of custom ROMs.
But I am not sure about Low light photo taken by them.
I saw some news website said about special edtion of OnePlus 5 on 2017 SEP 19.

Nexus camera is better
Nexus camera is awesome. I have said this before in several other threads. It is not that hard to replace a battery in a 6p. Go on eBay or Amazon and do a search for a Cameron sino battery.
I've had the 6p for about A year and a half basically since it came out. Think it's about that time to hang up it's cape this screen burn-in is really annoying me and that outdated processor is starting to show it's age. Would love to hear everyone's opinion on their next phone. I was thinking about the Pixel 2 myself if priced fairly ,or maybe the Note 8 , or the upcoming Essential Phone .
the nexus 6p has taught me how greatly important it is for phones to have a removable battery. I not will pay another $550+ for a smartphone, only to barely get 2 hours of SOT after a year of using it. I really hate planned obsolescence. I am trying to find a high end phone with removable battery other than LG ( bootloop ). But I think it's hard to find one in 2017 and later.
The pixel 2 will not be priced fairly. I would go for the note 8 if money is not an issue or the next oneplus
Yea tell me about it ! Battery life is horrible , buddy of mine at work has a S7 edge that gets double the battery life as my phone
I'm not getting rid of my 6p until i have to. Best phone I've ever had. The only reason people have bad battery life is because your battery is getting old, deal with it, replace it and your good to go again. Just like ANY OTHER sealed phone eventually. Anyone who complains about the processor being outdated as well just wants to justify getting a new phone for no reason IMHO. I haven't found anything yet that will tax my processor enough to have to get something new. Even if my 6p gives up the ghost for good, I'll probably buy another used one to replace it rather than spending insane amounts of money on something new and "improved"

Give it time, his battery will give out one day to. EVERYTHING has a life span.
I just got an RMA so I'll likely keep it awhile. Depends on my luck of the draw with the replacement. If it sucks I'll grab the Oneplus 5 or note.
I doubt we see removable batteries in any higher end device again. Companies claim design but reality is most of these phones aren't water proof and planned obsolesce especially now that device upgrades really aren't necessary every year is a powerful motivator. Unless of course you got a lemon that shuts off at 30% or gets 2 hours SOT or plain doesn't boot after a year or so. I'm hesitant to buy another nexus / pixel after my 6p and 5x.
It's really hard for me not to get an s8 right now.
probably a pixel 2 or 3 by the time they come out and whether my beloved 6p won't decide to die on me.
Pixel 2 or OnePlus 5
Getting the oneplus 5 once it is released.
Pixel 2 for me .
Looks like I'll be keeping my 6p for a while still. The battery life my not be top notch, but I get 4 to 5 hours of screen on time regularly, which is enough for me, especially when I can charge it for 0-100% in like 1.5 hours. My biggest hold up on an upgrade is I demand stereo front facing speakers, a good camera (which the 6p has when using the modded camera nx app), and a no bull**** as close to stock os as possible. The Pixel ticked all those boxes expect stereo front facing speakers so I passed on it, and it doesn't look like the Pixel 2 will be any different.
Honestly the design, speakers and the price of the pixel killed it for me , that phone looks horrible honestly there's nothing on the market right now that i would wanna pick up except the s8+ and that's pushing it because I only love using stock Android. Boy oh boy if they had an s8+ with stock Android with regular timely updates .... lol in a perfect world.
OnePlus 5 or perhaps Pixel 2. Still happy with my 6P though!
Keeping my fingers crossed on the Pixel 2. I would gladly get a S8 if I could run completely stock Android without root (and with monthly updates). Security is super critical for me for numerous reasons, unrooted for the first time a few months ago, haven't missed it.
That having been said, this week I purchased a $299 Moto G5 Plus (64GB/4GB) for someone, and I'm super impressed with quality and speed. Bluetooth and software is a little wonky, last security update was January, hoping for a ROM update, but since it's Moto G, probably not gonna get many updates. Honestly, if it were a Nexus release, I'd be super happy with it, as the hardware is great.

I picked up a new Moto Z on Verizon for $300 (for my wife).
Great phone if you can tolerate a locked bootloader.
Pixel 2, OnePlus 5 or Essential. Considering all of them
The Essential is out of the question for me. I like to take pictures, and the quality of the pictures I've seen from that phone are not that great of quality.
I'm looking at the OnePlus 5. The samples from them have been a heck of a lot better. I've been checking out the 3T forums to see what kind of roms are offered and its not bad looking at all. I'm going to get the 5 and sell my 6p on Swappa. I just hope it has the horizontal dual camera.
Not the iPlus 5 anymore. The OnePlus 5 with a copycat iPhone 7 style is so sad. And with only a small 3,000mAh battery. Screw that.
I switched to an iPhone 7+ last month and couldn't be more pleased. Tried to hold out until the iPhone 8 came out but the 6P was becoming too awful to be a daily driver for me. Lag lag and more lag whenever it is asked to do anything but the simplest of tasks. Then it heats up and throttles creating even more lag and drains the battery. But the main reason for me abandoning ship was because of my DJI Mavic Pro. Nougat and DJI Go 4 don't mix... I'm still keeping the 6P because it used to be a great phone but somewhere along the line, Google ruined it probably in hopes that we would switch to Pixel. Well I switched alright and probably for good! With iOS, everything just works. Only bad part is there's not a community like XDA Developers. Which is why I'm trolling the forums with my 6P lol.

Hey,
After an upgrade of my HTC U11+. A bit stuck to be honest on which one to go with as they all have big pluses and minuses. I think my ideal phone would be the mate 20 pro hardware with pixel software.
Will give my pro's and minuses below, please feel free to comment and advise as you see fit.
Mate 20 pro
++ Big battery
+ Not bad price wise (especially with the free watch)
+ cameras
+ nice colours
- Lack of updates??
Pixel 3 XL
++ best software
+ great camera
+ great update support
+ great speakers
-- average battery life
-expensive
Oneplus 6T (based on rumours
+price
+Smooth UI
+good support
- camera probably wont be as good as the other 2
-speakers wont be as good
+/- battery in the middle
Out of these three I'd definitely go with the Mate 20 Pro. the Pixel is boring and too ugly and no features at all (I wouldn't consider it at all unless I absolutely need their camera) , OP6 is just cheap price but is missing wireless charging, QHD display, IP68, stereo speakers, camera will be just average, AOD display, desktop mode, raise to wake, knuckle gestures, secure face unlock, etc. But if you don't care about those, the OP6 will be faster/smoother than Mate 20 pro and maybe their underdisplay implementation could be a little bit faster but we'll see
I'm going through the same motions so can't "convince" you, but here are some additional thoughts.
*Pixel QC is still sub par. Quite a few hardware inconsistencies popping up. You won't see this with Huawei
*Pixel 3 speakers and haptics are FAR better
*Huawei software is bad for reasons people don't extrapolate upon
Question marks behind software updates should be removed. This is definitely a negative mark against Huawei.
Lockscreen is abysmal. Unable to expand, reply, or interact with any notifications
Background app restrictions are seriously annoying. Google photos will randomly not backup like your using an iphone. Services like android messages for PC, Mightytext, or Pushbullet will randomly stop working, Dropbox background sync won't work consistently, etc.
Huawei still isn't a brand developers seem to pay attention to, so bugs (think odd aspect ratio bugs) will take longer to get fixed.
*6T should be immediately disregarded unless cost or ROM support are of concern. Imagine you know this already.
Huawei hardware is beautiful, but the software and updates is a serious downer. (not just because it's a skin - EMUI looks fine visually imo) Ultimately, I think the ugly 3XL is still the better device for most..
No bootloader unlock, no root, no mods, no roms vs oneplus and pixel unlimited development..

Well Pixel XL 3 is trash. I returned mine after 2 days.
Oneplus 6T is a bang for buck type of phone
Mate 20 Pro I'm having issues getting one imported
Probably didn't help much but aye.

Great post, and for these reasons Huawei don't deserve £899 for their phone as pretty as it is. when the honeymoon period wears off you'll be noticing that lack of software support. I'm still debating getting a M20P myself, it would be easier if Huawei stepped their game up with software support and allowed the users to bypass background closures.

I think you hit the nail on the head regarding honeymoon period. I had (2) P20 Pro's and I loved the hardware/camera, but quickly became annoyed with the fact that EMUI just doesn't "work" as an android phone should. After using MIUI 10 on a Mix 2s for a few weeks, I would say that Xiaomi's derivative feels more natural to use. /sad

Do you know if these issues are still there in the Mate 20 Pro? That and Android Auto (connecting to a head unit) are very important to me. I don't believe that worked correctly on previous Huawei devices either.

Had someone on Reddit confirm that the lockscreen is still the same. Some have said it is a bug, but seems working as intended to me. (Been a "bug" since EMUI 8.1)
I haven't inquired about backgrounding issues. Not much point. This has been a thing with EMUI since day 1. (And other China OEMs too)
Thanks for the replies very helpful. I know the mate 20 pro is the best out of the bunch its whether i can live with EMUI. I had this in the past with samsung s6 edge, loved the phone but hated the software and ended up getting rid of it very quickly. I think if the pixel was £100 cheaper or had a bigger battery i would 100% go with that for the software experience.
The decision would be so much easier if they allowed bootloader unlock and custom roms would solve half the issues! Still no closer to the decision.
A couple of extra points
Mate 20 curved screen will be a pain for glass screen protectors so thats a -
Still cant work out if the UK model is single sim or dual sim! (says its micro sd expandable so is that where the extra sim goes)
I think the camera will be just as good as the pixel...in some ways better because of the wide angle lens etc. The pixel 3 probably will be the best point and shoot but I don't think either will dissapoint you
I've bite the bullet and pre ordered the mate 20 pro.
What really turned the tide for me is 2 videos on youtube, 1 a speed comparison against the note 9 and it smashed it, which proved to me it wont be a laggy crappy software (mostly)
and 2nd a battery drain test which it got nearly 7 hours of SOT which was 2 hours better than the note 9 and 3 hours more than most of the others.

yer the watch did help me decide.
What i dont get in the UK is its 899 sim free, the pixel 3 xl 64gb is around 850 yet all the contracts for the huwaei are coming out about £5 a month less, also helped me decide.

See i went with sim free but what got me here is 50 quid more for mate, and free watch and charger is 250, so basically mate is working out 200 quid cheaper and 6gb ram vs the 4 and this massive battey, when pixie 3 battery is sitting at 3400 compared to my pixel 2 xl 3500 with a smaller screen? Impulse buy but hey, if we somehow hate it, or cant get used to it... Swap or sell after few months right? It aint a new car xd
It's very easy : get the pixel 3 and then youll want to get the mate 20 Pro for sure!
Preorderd mine today. Can't wait to finish a day without worrying at all about the battery. That's the feature I'm most excited about, since every phone, at this price, seems to have a great camera and screen. Really not that excited that I'll get to open youtube a half a second faster than other phones. Also, EMUI can be improved with apps and themes.

Pretty excited about this as well, I'm pretty sure I will still average about 6000 mah a day, I almost always charge from like 50 to 90% using wireless charging while at work but for the days I forgot to wireless charge, the fact that even if I get home with less than 5% and just plugging it in for like 15 minutes (instead of like 40 minutes like my note 9) and being back to like 40% to finish the day is amazing.
I agree
