hey all!
Considering an update from my Honor 6 this spring some time and was wondering if you recommend the honor 7 or the nexus 6P?
or other huawei models? one thing that has been an annoyance for me lately is the lack of ROM's for the Honor 6, its something I have missed dearly. I guess if i had chosen a "top" model, like samsung S6 or S7, theres probably plenty, but then theres also the matter of how much money to shell out on a phone.
so in shorter terms:
*i want/need a phone with plenty of ROMS etc.
*battery needs to be decent
*regular and timely android updates
*i have normal hands very average, lol
*most of all, i want to feel its a great bang for the buck and still not break the bank(this is why i loved my honor 6, great performance to price ratio)
any insights welcome
my friend, you're describing a Nexus.
i'd say go for a Nexus you won't regret it. I'm a happy Honor7 user but what you need you won't find it in the Honor7.
Nexus all the way if you want the best. But if you want a good phone for a low price then the honor 7 will more than do the job in specs and in actual use. It's the best budget phone by a long shot.
I'm coming from a nexus 5 and apart from the honor 7 not being as comfortable in the hand it actually beats my old nexus 5 in all other aspects and daily use.
thanks, this makes my choice a little easier. going to a store one of these days and check how the 6P fits in my hand. it just seems to look crazy big for some reason
Check out the honor 7 in a 3 mobile store they have them in stock. The honor 7 looks better in real life than in any you tube video and is very responsive.
Just noticed that the nexus has no sd card option which is a dealbreaker in my book... But perhaps getting the 64 gig version could be ok
Honor, good price flagship from Huawei. Not many ROMs but as you see we have 2 already ;D Nexus is just Nexus that phone is and will be the best, clean Android, fast updates, every Beta Android is going first to Nexus devices (like the new Android N right now). If you don't need all that, you can pick Honor. He is fast but EMUI is something very different. Just check it out on YouTube.
Would run away from SD810, like the one Nexus 6P have inside. Overheat/throttle from this SOC is well known, despite some revisions. Also with that SOC and high density pixel, battery is not great as Honor 7 (3100mah vs 3450mah). You have a 128GB version, though, but the price should be quite steep.
Right now, with the release of SD820 and Helio x20 its very premature to go to a flagship, before the dust settles.
Edit: The phones with the most 3rd party ROMs are the most sold and/or opened to development.
Seems like its a good year for tax returns so im thinking about a flagship from somewhere, so ill think it over a little more

We all love the Mate 2 for its screen size and great battery life. While the phone is a decent performer, it certainly isn't in the same ballpark as a SD800+ device. And the screen, while decent at 241 DPI, pales in comparison to the 1080P devices we've been seeing for a while now, and the 2K screens we're starting to see more prevalently.
I was wondering what fellow AM2 owners were considering for their next device. To me, the main devices that appeal to us craving a large screen powerhouse are the Nexus 6, Note 4, Vibe Z2 Pro and the Mate7 (assuming it ever becomes available). Am I missing any? All these devices have their advantages and disadvantages. Are you considering any? Have you ruled any out? Why or why not?

Well as a lint time Samsung user I switched to this for three reasons. Size, price and to get away from Sprint. You will never find a factory unlocked Note 4 for $299. I was hoping for some sort of development with this device but that seems like it's never going to happen so I'm a little disappointed there. Whether or not we see a Lollipop update or at least a 4.4.4 KK update will determine how much longer I actually use this. My next device will probably be a OnePlus. At least the CM team are constantly working on updates.
I'd like to go for a used Nexus 6.
Pure Android (no silly file system, so things will WORK), developers (custom ROMs), etc. I know I'll miss the battery life, but I that'll be it.
Unless my Mate2 dies, I don't see any "need" to replace it, for around 18-24 months.
Heck, I kept my Note1 for 22 months before replacing it with the Mate2, only because the
OLED screen was starting to show screen burn in.
I don't think I can replace my mate2, battery life is too good. I was looking forward to the Nexus6, but $650 is almost as expensive as an iPhone. A Oneplus for $350 will have to do for me. I'm done paying $600+ for a phone that costs about $200 to make it

The Mate 2 as I have it set up, pretty much does everything I need it to do, and does it well. I'm thinking about the Nexus 6, but just because it would be nice to have a phone that gets the latest cutting edge updates to play with. If more development started on the Mate 2 though, I'd cancel those thoughts.
If it doesnt beat battery life of mate 2... i wont get it. I am thinking of getting a tablet and infinite tethering with my mate.. and i think it could probably handle it for a looonh time.
Okay okay okay, price aside, is there an android tablet that really beats the nexus 9? Spec for spec?
My iPad 2g needed desperate upgrading. I love my nexus 5. Did I make the wrong choice going to the nexus 9? I really wanted the 64bit, thinking it would be the next best thing. I don't mind spending the extra for the iPad costs, but I've been wanting the freedom android delivers.
Is the build quality that bad... It's got to be better than all plastic, ah la Samsung. I guess the higher price should suggest quality. I just wish the reviews were not overwhelmingly poor.
I really like it so far. And there is something refreshing about using android on a big screen.
On the other hand I want to have a good tablet. Should I just root a different tablet and place asop on it. One with all the specs that proves to be better or as good as the iPad.
I'm having a great experience so far, everything is working as expected and I have none of the issues reported by others. Performance rocks though it does take a while to charge.
There is a thread on satisfied owners. My experience on "who knows what to believe" is, believe everything. People aren't making up problems. Some tablets (N9) don't have them. I'm waiting for at least two more production runs before purchasing. Although it's a PITA to do so, I will return/exchange until I get one that satisfies me. I'm hoping battery charge/discharge issues will be sorted out with software. This will be my sixth Nexus device. I've only had to exchange one: N7 flo, but its touch screen issue has caused me to monitor the N9 experience before I buy. I had to send back my first Samsung Tab Pro 12.2 (for my son) for a dead pixel. Replacement was perfect.
It's hard to wait, but I'll be happier in the long run. I have my N7 FLO which I will keep. It's just so portable.

I am a previous iPad 3 owner and I traded in it for a Nexus 9. Overall I am not regret on doing that. Only one thing, apps and quality of apps for Android tablets admittedly worse than the iOS ones.
Thanks!

Nice to know someone else jumped the itrain! That's the little reassurance i needed. I'm digging my decision more and more. I agree and wish more for the app verse, too.
Now that cm13 is close I am considering making the jump to this phone from current iPhone 6.
Anyone here who have jumped from iPhone to oneplus x that could tell if it's "ok" or that they regret it etc ?
Thanks in advance.
I personally don't have an iPhone, but other than camera I think OPX can beat iPhone 6, because OS is as fluid as iOS, day to day performance is good and stable and yess it needs some optimizations ( gaming, camera) but it will be fixed with future updates. And Android 6.0 will make this phone trully amazing. Just some patience. It's really unique phone from unique company.
I was about to buy either iPhone or one plus 2 but went for this like this better than 5s which was the previous phone i was using
I came from an iPhone 5 (used other Android Phones before as you can see in my signature) and I am pretty statisfied with the OPX, except for the Camera, which barely use, so it's not a game changer.
If you don't really want to have a OPX and use Android I would stick with the iPhone because of it's overall better hardware.
I switched to android this summer after 8 years of using iPhone. It was just not worth it anymore. The premium price you pay, the closed apple universe, etc... android is much more open, so many devices to choose from, CUSTOM ROMs^^, way cheaper to get good performance, etc. I got used to android by now and I don't have much to complain about.
I decided to buy the OPX because I liked the size and screen (5" Full HD AMOLED) and the dual sim capability. However, Oxygen OS was a big let-down. Luckily, there are some CM based ROMs already. Works well for me.
Another word about the storage: I always got the 16GB iPhone because it was the cheapest and I didn't store any music or movies, games on it. But still, with iPhone I ran out of space quickly. On my OPX I have several GB free!
I would say get youself the phone now and try it out, it is not expensive and has great hardware performance. After just a few months for me with android I couldn't imagine going back to iPhone now. (still loving my macbook air though)
Happy Holidays!
I bought this as my first android phone after using Iphones for 6 years, 5s being my last one.
Since I hate the iphone 6 design and I couldn'T wait for the 7
I instantly flashed a custom ROM and I'm loving it.
I have to admit I miss how well my iphone worked with my macbook compared to this.
But I'm sure I'll find workarounds for it.
I'm running this phone for 20 days now and I haven't touched my iphone anymore.
This device might not have the high end specs of the iphones but you have to ask yourself the question: do i need those specs?
Once I properly asked myself that question I came to realise mid range specs are already really good nowadays.
I'm not a hardcore mobile gamer, I'm not a photographer nor am I a music addict that needs the best of the best.
If you think the same like me, just go and buy the phone.
You won't regret it
yeah the specs! who needs high end, expensive hardware for texting and browsing?
not me

I picked up one at the retail store on while I was in Shanghai last week and don't regret it. The default font size is larger than the iPhone 6, and overall it is lighter and nicer to use. This is my first Android phone as I have had almost every iPhone model since the 3GS came out. I am very happy with it.
Hi all,
I am at a bit of a loss here. I am an avid Nexus user (see sig below) though i want to like the OnePlus 2 though i keep reading horror stories and concerns about throttling, charging and performance issues over time. It's like they made an awesome phone though failed with the software implementation.
I am hoping like a lot of issues on devices that the XDA community has addressed these problems with a nice Custom ROM..
Can people give me some honest feedback regarding their experiences? I have read a lot of reviews though its all using the Factory ROM. I want to know how good the device can be with a good community rom.
Please let me know thanks very much.
Buy a 6P or wait for the new nexus, really looking forward to get rid of my OPT.
oneplus2 far much better than 5X

OTP I've had too many small and big problems and bugs, I mean, the phone is usable but doesn't live up to it's specs and hype, software is the worst part of all, and if you are already a nexus user you will find annoying to wait for new versions of Android, also if you're into custom roms you should always stick to nexus.
And de 5X is too expensive for it's built and specs.
I mean personally I would think of other options, the Nexbit Robin seems really nice, or you can wait for the new phones that are coming.

You cannot go wrong with a Nexus - I am a OP 1 and 2 user. Came from Nexus 5(which still works).
OP2 now has everything working Custom ROM's but there are still niggles, which do not hamper you daily use. Community support is almost at par with Nexus. Fingerprint scanner is a bit fickle, I am having mine RMA'ed right now.
On the other hand... 5x is way to expensive for the specs being offered.. You could wait for new lineup this summer.. OP3, Motorola etc..
Obviously opt unless you want to settle for a less specifications mobile device for a higher price.
OP2 has better everything except OTAs which can be fixed with cyanogenmod. I'd pick up the OP2 or wait for the next nexus line.
Op2 is an awesome phone, just flash the latest hydrogen os build on it and compare it with a 5x... Everything in op2 is better even the camera...
Nexus 5X price is a joke. I would buy a N5 for 150$ before N5X lol
I wouldnt buy a phone with 2gb of ram and snapdragon 808 in 2016 anyways
I am also very satisfied with my 2. It just works rocking solid. And it has the best fingerprint Sensor out there, i really love it! So fast and accurate if you set it up correct.
But if i were you, i would wait for the 3. It should be out in july, so its not that long. If you want a phone now, just get the 2
got them both.
op2 has better specs.
5x feels cheaper, cooler, charges faster, has lower memory, lower ram, single sim and has a smaller screen.
both last 4-5hrs sot on my daily usage
personally i have my OPT on sale and have considered getting the nexus 5X instead (been some price drops here in uk). mainly because the OPT software is horrible, heats up quick, sluggish performance on stock rom, even though custom roms significantly improve the device its still doesnt feel like a flagship, i.e. some lag and small bugs here and there. in comparison my dads redmi note 3 and sisters OPO feel faster and snappier in comparison and in my side by side usage there both are smoother while scrolling.
also another thing ... people go crazy about specs and wanting a phone with the best possible hardware but they are forgetting the main thing the user experience. The oneplus 2 is culprit of this as it has the best specs but software is horrible that you are forced to use a custom rom
5x if the price is cheaper depending on your available sources. OPT very prone to fingerprint sensor failure and the RMA process apparently has been a nightmare to those unlucky enough to need a replacement or even any kind of hardware technical support really.
Go with anything other than OPT i regret now buying opt instead of Moto X variants or Nexus variant.
There is little to no support from the company for updates and they dont even release source code in time.
XDA community is there true but still isnt on par with devices who has their source code released.
It's been posted but compare the two and see what ya come out with.. On paper the OP2 is the better phone. I'm glad I got mine. I was down to the Nexus 6 or OP2 and I'm glad I did.
I'm sure your gonna root the thing.. So CM and updates will flow... So yeah.. Get the OP2
And despite what you have been told.. Oxygen 3.0 is a damn nice ROM. I was a slim ROM freak and I'm satisfied and very happy with MM update.. Yeah it's beta but it's rock solid.
Hell.. I would get a OPO over the 5X
Wait for new device.
A lot of users thinks oneplus2 is failed in China, me too.
Wish Oneplus3 will be better.
I am still with my OPT just because of the ability to use two SIM cards. That's just way more practical for combining work+private SIM. Atleast I prefer it over having to take two phones with me.
So if it wasn't for that, I would still be using my Nexus 5X, since there's just way better software support.
I hope the OnePlus 3 will change that.
I've been pretty happy with my Mate 10 but feel it's time for a change. Almost got the Mi 9T Pro but then specs for the Oneplus 7T emerged and that is now the favourite. Tried the Oneplus 7 Pro earlier but hated the curved screen. Mate 30 probably out due to the google apps nonsense.
Just wondered what fellow Mate 10 users have moved to and how it worked out. Or which device(s) you have your eye on?
Personally if it's confirmed that Mate 10 will be getting Android Q then it's a must keep for another year and maybe 1 more after that. Even without that It does all I need and more. Never been happier with a phone.
I'm a bit picky about the design of my phone, I hate curved screens, notch, teardrop, cut out designs. And Mate 10 doesn't fall into any of that. I don't like the current trends I just want compromise. But that's only personal preference.
Currently I'm holding off until the Mate 40 comes out next year, and when that time comes I'll start weighting things.
Good thing U have many brands to choose from but no need to rush unless u are having serious problems with your device, where I live the only choices are huawei and Samsung so I only upgrade when it's really crucial to do so, and that's not even close right now.
I hope this helped u. Peace.
My mate 10 pro will have an afterlife in the hands of my wife. :fingers-crossed:
But it won't be a Huawei anymore. Just because there is no development around these brand and that sucks.
For now I would prefer Oneplus devices. Also Xioami isn't too bad either.
Will see what the market has to offer next year.
I am fascinated by all the new devices that come out. But also I always come to the conclusion. that the Mate 10 (Pro) is still a very good smartphone that is very capable of keeping up with the new ones. Sure the wide angle and zoom lenses are great and also the SoC are better in Benchmarks, but at the end of the day my Mate 10 Pro can do all I need.
One reason why I decided to buy a flagship smartphone in 2017 was "I want a phone that can keep up for a while". I knew I didnt need the flagship SoC performance but I bought it so it would still be fast 2 years later. Now the time begins where I think I profit of paying extra in 2017. Thatswhy I'll keep it till it breaks, hopefully many years from now. I will soon order a new battery and replace it myself (while also changing my shattered back panel). Very happy with the device and Huaweis promise "wont slow down within at least 2 years" proved to be right.
I change device because i would reduce form factor, but with best camera

Personally, I love mine and I have no reason to upgrade. If I could pick any, I would still be pretty open minded as I don't do roms so bootloader locked isn't an issue for me. As long as it is pretty equal in features to price ratio and it has all the ones I need, gladly it can be my next.
It's amazing I've had my M10P for almost two years cos it's as new and fast as the day I bought it!
I gave my Mate9 to my wife then and she stopped using her Sammy for the M9. I wanted to get her a Y9prime but she wants the M10P so I guess it's the M30P for me.
I used to have LGs (G2, G3, V10 & G5) - the last two got affected by bootloop and being out of US, I wasn't entitled to a replacement. Those days, I flashed custom ROMs bi-weekly my favourite was Cloudy.
I didn't think I could survive with a locked bootloader but here I am 3 & 1/2 years after switching to Mate 9.
I will still stick to Mate series but I wish Huawei will create their own OS probably off Sailfish which means we can still install Google services.
If Huawei want to retain market share, they should unlock bootloader in devices as it'll not only keep us but also entice new users of their devices.
Talking about changing devices, I may go for the new P30 Pro.
But if I had to move away from Huawei all together, I'll consider the K20 Pro as an alternative - for me, it's better than OP7 Pro
Edit:
I think I may go for Asus ROG phone II or Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro
I'm going through the same dilemma. I usually change phones very fast. But its been 1.5 yrs with the Mate 10 Pro and there's nothing in the market that comes close to being a great replacement for this. My only problem now is that the updates haven't come in for 2 months now (US Version) and I don't think it'll get any more. I love the camera, speaker, bluetooth strength, Wifi speeds and just how smooth and fast it is even after 1.5 yrs.
But, if there has to be a replacement, then I might go for the Pixel 4 or jump over to the iPhone 11. Waiting for their announcements to see how good they are.

Still waiting to see what the Pixel brings to the table.
The iPhone 11 Pro has a wide angle camera which is the only thing missing in the Mate 10 Pro. Pics will be good for a flagship, and videos are the best as usual. iOS is not to my taste and the max I've held an iPhone is for 4-5 months (8 plus). Since nothing major has changed in iOS 13, I'm in a dilemma.
No more Huawei's for me, because just like any other manufacturer, updates stop coming after a point or are really slow. My Mate10 Pro hasn't received an update for 2 months now. Yeah, they've been much better than Samsung or LG, but that's nothing to boast about.

I haven't been getting updates but I have 2 possible reasons,
A- not in the region I bought my phone.
B- been in repair for the past month.
Same for me I love the M10P but as my contract is renewing next month I thought about buying the M30P and just install the g services myself but I am not so sure about it. What would you all do buy the M30P or something else?

I'd buy the M30P. If you were happy with Huawei than it's the best choice imo. I'd just wait for some real reviews to see if you really can get all Google services to work properly.
I won't buy mate 30 PRO, reason - notch. My next phone will have about 7 inches screen. I'm waiting for HONOR NOTE 20 but nobody can say something about release date. I wanted to buy HONOR NOTE 10, but there's a problem with B20 range and Jack 3,5mm.

Why do U need a 7 inch screen?
If I was upgrading and sticking to huawei I'd rather get the Mate 30 (non pro). The only things I don't like are that it doesn't have QHD display and no support for standard SD card. And also I think it doesn't have dual speakers but I'm not sure. I'm holding off until the Mate 40 unless my Mate 10 become unusable.
The lack of Google apps doesn't bother me at all but for the average consumer it could be an issue.
I like to watch a films at my car during my journeys Larger screens are better for this.
I'm leaning towards the Oneplus 7T. It looks like the uk will only get 128gb but Wonda Mobile think they might have the 256gb version in November.
