CM-13.0-20160206-NIGHTLY-i9100 problems - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently (a month ago) I upgraded from Android 5.0 (something) to the above NIGHTLY from Cyanogenmod, this was done via my Clockwork Mod recovery program after following all the prerequisites stated. The upgrade went thru without a hitch, or so I thought!!
I noticed that the Recovery program that I was left with after the initial upgrade was a very basic Cyanogenmod Recovery, with very few and basic options. The problems came to light when an OTA upgrade was attempted to a newer version of the same. The upgrade failed using the Updater giving an 'Error' in Cyanogenmod Recovery, the same result occurs even after trying a manual update.
I then tried using Odin and Heimdall to try and flash a different recovery program to replace the existing, still with no success. Getting errors like 'Failed to complete write' or 'Can't open USB or Serial Port'.
Even after reading and trying info in countless of threads in Forums etc. etc. I still have no result. So basically I'm stuck with a phone that I can't upgrade the software or install additional zipped Apps ... nothing!!
Also the system software is telling me that my phone is 'Rooted', but when I try and install APK's, like Titanium Backup for example, the program tells me that it won't work because the phone isn't rooted???
When it comes to Android techo stuff I have to admit that I'm an absolute noob, but I would really appreciate some layman terms help with this problem.
Appreciate it!!

Long story short, you will have to do the following :
You will have to flash an IsoRec recovery first, resize /system partition (optional), format /system /data and /cache and then install CM 13 and gapps (optional) manually.
Read this thread before you proceed:
[GUIDE][NOOB-FRIENDLY]Want to update to CM13? Read this first!
Make sure you've read the whole thread before you proceed!
Scroll down that link I posted till you see "If you forgot to flash Isorec Recovery when upgrading, this is what you can do:" This is what you need to do to fix your phone.
I personally prefer the Odin method.

Hello Guys,
I am from India too...Hyderabad..
Got the Mega 6.3 I9200 one week ago and successfully rooted it.
Installed most of the games and they work flawlessly. All apps working great.
Phone is great...My Kid loves it alot..............
Only thing is I have a problem with the USB Storage. When the phone is connected to the computer running Windows 8 32-bit version, I do get the option to transfer files using USB to PC but the disc drive does not show up in My Computer. Changed many settings but cannot transfer files to SD Card..I have tried all possible solutions in many forums especially XDA-Forums and Google.Com but nothing worked. The only way I was able to transfer files is by using the Mini USB to USB flash drive cable. See the image attatched. Please let me know if anyone is facing this issue and tried any solution that worked.. Thank you..
I love the phone...

The real issue is that there is no working CWM for our devices. Therefore, the CWM files that are being created don't successfuly install CWM onto our devices. I have tried a few different CWM files that were created. I tried both the touch and non-touch versions of CWM for both the LTE (GT-i9205) and non-LTE(GT-i9200) versions of the Mega all with no success. Some of the CWM files cause you to have no recovery at all and you have to flash back the stock recovery. Then, some of the CWM files appears to have been installed successfully but, when you actually boot into recovery mode, the stock recovery is still there and not the CWM that you just "installed" (which is strange but this has happened to me more often than not).
That's probably what's happening here. Pariki probably got through the physical process of opening ODIN, selecting the CWM recovery file, starting the process, and letting it complete. Then, afterwards, probably booted into recovery thinking they are looking at CWM when in fact what they are seeing is the stock recovery because the CWM file didn't actually install onto their device. This would explain why they don't have a backup option. I don't know what the solution is beside the fact that we simply need a working CWM or TWRP. Currently, no one has been able to create one.

Exactly.....Curgervending..
I have the same thoughts on this.
I can backup the normal Contacts and Messages but backing up the whole working ROM is what I want. It is only possible with a working CWM that has the Backup/Restore option. Need to wait till someone works on it.
If someone has a working CWM that has the Backup/Restore option, Please let me know with link. I will flash it.
Thank you.

Hope I helped you before you screwed your phone...I am sure I did..
You know the real pain is taking the phone to the Service Center. I am sure you faced this when there is nothing you can do and when there is no help from others after screwing it..
I was very descriptive with the way I restored my phone to make it working and without having to take it to the service center.
I am sure you don't know but this will help others on how to recover the phone, what to flash and what not to..If it is for their phone or not. They get ideas on recovering the phone..Hoped I helped others with my Post...
Whatever, dude. You assume too much. Just stop spamming here and posting the same message 4 times.

[Q] Help...!!! GT-N8000 internal SDcard not detected in ODIN

Hi Guys
This is my first attempt at Rooting my N8000. Kindly let me know if any more information is needed to help me out.
I'm currently on Stock 4.1.2 and I've never tried my hands on rooting, off late my device was lagging alot so i finally decided to go for the Root and make it faster.
My Cable & Drivers are perfect & up to date. The device ( int SDcard as well as the ext SDcard ) gets detected upon connecting to the computer.
However, when I connect the USB cable to the computer after entering into Recovery Download mode to use 'High on Android CWM' placed along with Android Revolution ROM on the root of my internal SDcard, the device fails to get detected.
ODIN detects the device on the respective COM port, i've tried by changing the port as well, but to no use. And, when I proceed and try to choose the PDA tab and select the internal SDcard. Device is missing.
The Tablet fails to get recognized at all. It does not even show up in Windows explorer.
I've searched a lot already but couldn't find any solutions. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Surely brother.
I joined xda long time when i had taken an S2 but had to change to Blackberry for official purposes, so could never follow Android Development.
Now that i've my N8000. I'm here to stay....
By the way, I just finished rooting my phone.
The trouble I was having in rooting since yesterday was because I was following the written directions in Android Revolution HD ROM.
I was trying to locate CWM's .tar file on my internal SD card. But it was not getting mounted since it was in Download mode. And i feared to brick my TAB by selecting the file from the Comp HDD. Watching the video solved that confusion in my head. Also, they didn't mention to untick Auto-boot in the video. First attempt, I didn't do it and Stock recovery replaced CWM. Next time, I unticked Auto-boot and manually booted into CWM recovery.
Anyway, All good now.....! time to taste real Android Power.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S3 Camera Failure Issue

Hello everyone,
I know that this is my first post, but in recent weeks i have been using the useful information posted by your community to succesfully root and flash my device. I have, however, reach a wall and am unable to find any other information to lead me past this wall. That leads me to this post. Maybe my experiences will help others to reach an answer that seems to have eluded all of our brains.
My device:
US Cellular Samsung Galaxy S3 16 GB Version
Android 4.1.2
1. Successfully rooted my device, gaining access to SuperUser App and root file access.
2. Installed TWRP Custom Recovery, backed up custom recovery image of stock ROM and apps (image of my phone as it was before flashing)
3. Found a ROM suitable to my device, carrier, and needs (Eclipse v5.1 Build 5)
4. Flashed ROM using correct procedure (factory wipe, flash ROM, flash GAPPS, reboot)
5. Rebooted phone while new ROM was in place (Eclipse)
6. Restored all info as it was before
7. Went to use camera, received error message "Cannot connect to camera"
8. Proceeded to see if any camera apps would solve problem (FXCamera, Instagram, etc), received same error message when trying to access camera portion of these apps
9. Explored other options (Flashed other camera apps onto my phone hoping this would solve problem)
10. Relaunched phone and received same error message when trying to open these camera applications
***********************************
1. I recovered to the stock ROM using TWRP, and attempted to access the Camera Firmware screen using code *#34971539# and this resulted in nothing happening on my phone. No change in screen, the code just sits in the stock dialer.
****Why is this?
****Why wont my phone access the camera firmware screen?
I have a feeling that i need to find a corresponding firmware in this list
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2006128
And follow the listed process in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...6#post40409206
My hope is that this results in the camera fully functioning within my custom ROM that i have chosen.
For now though, i guess any input that you have on my situation would be greatly appreciated. I feel as if i have exhausted every thread on the internet regarding this topic. Why cant i get to the firmware screen? Do you think this will fix the situation? Why wont the camera connect when im running my custom ROM?
Thanks in advance everyone, really appreciate all that you do here. Your knowledge helps many.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Mega & Cyanogenmod Installation

To start off with, I'm just wondering, do you ALWAYS have to enter a CAPTCHA when posting to this forum. That will drive me nuts!
Anyhow, I am looking to install Cyanogenmod on my Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 (GT-I9205) and I haven't been in the business of modding an Android phone in a LONG long while. The videos on YouTube are extremely lackluster in walking you step-by-step if you haven't been in it for a while. I don't just want to install the ROM and call it a day, I want to understand what the process is first, create a full image of my phone first in case anything goes wrong and AFTER that point I want to install a Cyanogenmod.
So, from what little bits and pieces I have gleaned from the Internets, I have come across three main themes when modding.
1. Root
2. ClockworkMod
3. Cyanogenmod
I don't want to brick my phone so I'd like some help in getting started with this.
Please move this thread if it's not in the right spot.
Question 1: As far as rooting your phone, is the process similar on the Android platform as a whole or is there specific steps for each "line" of phones. It feels like rooting is pretty cut-and-dry. I have rooted before, I just don't remember exactly what the most efficient way of doing it was.
Question 2: It seems like installing ClockworkMod requires that you select an option that's specifically for your phone (i.e. picking an option that applies to a differing phone will brick your phone). Am I correct in this assumption.
Question 3: To my understanding from what I've seen, it is recommended that you white your phone and clear the cache (a very good suggestion) when installing a new ROM. Should this be done after you install ClockworkMod? At what point should this be done and what is the correct steps to do this?
I'm a developer & programmer by nature, but this Android stuff really has me feeling unfamiliar so I need everyones help to understand how this beast ticks.

Did you install the latest recovery ( twrp/cwm )? It will only work with the recoveries available in my signature. First flash the recovery using Odin, then flash the ROM zip using recovery.

Yes I used the files in your signature and installed TWRP as follows
- Opened ODIN
- Put Phone into Stock Recovery
- Plugged into comptuer
- Loaded TWRP tar file under PDA in ODIN
- Clicked Start
No errors popped up
To Flash Rom
- Restarted phone and held Volume Up button to load TWRP
- Full Backup before Flashing
- Touched Install
- Selected zip file downloaded from your status
It starts updating and has the following on the screen

Then gives me option of Home, Wipe cache/dalvik(which I also tried) or reboot system
Do you have the rom file on your external sd card..if so I would put the rom zip file on the internal sd and see if it works then..unless you have the rom file on your internal sd already..then disregard this..but it should work.

Did you install the latest recovery ( twrp/cwm )? It will only work with the recoveries available in my signature. First flash the recovery using Odin, then flash the ROM zip using recovery.

So I have finally managed to get this installed by basically going back to square one, fresh downloads and fresh factory restore for the 5th time lol and it finally worked. Got a couple questions tho. Is there a way to have the notification LED pulse rotate if theres more than one? like say i get a text and a email waiting for me at same time is there a way to have it switch colours between text and email every 5 seconds or whatever? Also is there a way to make the icons in app drawer smaller?
Not trying to be pushy about getting these added just wanna make sure that its not just a case of ia am missing something
Thanks
SHadow

[Q] Help me with Basic Android development tools

Ok, at the outset I would like to make it clear I am the beginner of all beginners when it comes Android tweaking and the doubts are related to it.
I have Samsung Ace GT S5830i phone. Its rooted and CWM installed. Kindly help me clear the following doubts regarding custom roms, kernel and firmware.
1. What is a kernel and What is a stock firmware. Are there any differences between it.
2. If I am installing a custom ROM, which has a custom kernel. Which do I install first? ROM or KERnel? Or whether both are bundled together as a single installation.
3. What is Odin and for what is it used for
4. If I have a CWM backup of my phone, and while installing a custom rom with custom kernel, If my phone gets bricked. Can I unbrick it by restoring cwm backup I have taken, or should I have to go via Odin (also how do i do it via Odin)
5. Can I install a different kernel on the existing rom, will it wipe of all my applications and settings?

Even though you posted in incorrect section I will help you with some answers.
1. a) What is a kernel?
b) Stock firmware is like the root of your machine. I would take windows for simple example as i think you are not aware of that.
-Your computer was firstly installed with Windows Vista and you later upgrade to a higher version of windows. Stock ROM in this case is Windows Vista.
- What is "firmware"?
Firmware refers to the applications and operating system that control how a cellphone or smartphone operates. It is called firmware rather than software to highlight that it is very closely tied to the particular hardware components of a device. Firmware is generally flashed into a phone's ROM rather than simply being loaded into normal phone storage, where it could more easily be erased and lost in the event of a crash. Firmware updates are sometimes provided by a company as a way to fix bugs or introduce new functionality. Unfortunately Samsung has abandoned firmware updates on low-end devices such as our Galaxy Ace.

2. If the ROM zip contains the kernel there is no need of installing a custom kernel afterwards. Always when you flash something don't forget to mount /system, /data, /cache and /sdcard. It seems you have installed CWM Recovery so you should know about mounting.

3. Odin was software that was first leaked back a couple years ago from Samsung. Samsung uses or used it to "flash" or "install" firmware/os/kernels/radio's onto the devices. Samsung still uses it or a form of it in certain releases as a Window's Upgrade Tool as its been known. Its still basically old Odin underneath a custom Window's UI skin.
Odin is your friend, respect it. If used improperly it can brick a device since it has the ability to flash very vulnerable sections of your device.

4. a) If your phone can access through CWM then you can probably unbrick your device restoring your nandroid backup. In such case, the brick is called a soft-brick.
b) If your phone stucks on boot logo and has no access on CWM then, you should use ODIN to unbrick it.

5. You can. I don't know if you loose some of your settings but what is certainly you won't loose is data (Unless you wipe it)

You can use Google too for such questions. Also, you seem to be new here so please keep in mind these things :
- Never ask for ETAs (Expected Time of Arrival)
- For reporting bugs or asking questions about a ROM use its Discussion thread. If it has no discussion thread you are free to post in development thread.
- Do not post OFF-Topic replies on such threads. You are free to do such thing on the OFF-TOPIC thread on general section of this device.
- Follow XDA rules even if you feel embarrassed or offended. Report the user which does this to you instead.
- Instead of Replying "Thank you. It worked!" Just click Thanks button instead.
Good luck!
Regards,
Teddy
Search on google for all this questions..u definately find all solutions..
