Get rid of scratches? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an offer for a S6 Edge 32 GB but it has sratches. From what I could see not very deep ones but there are many. Might polishing this screen maybe fix the scratches?

Yes. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=114659

Anyone else hating the silver band?

Im just hating how easily it marks I'm super ocd about my phone for the first say month there is a scuff on the top and the charger port already has scratches. I was looking at my friends black note and his this looks new (Its not obviously) I feel like this thing shows any blemish so easily

I considered replacing the band with the one from the titanium grey version.. It should be pretty easy as its part of the back plate.. Plus looks as though the back plate fires for only $20

yeah check out the teardown of the n7100 here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD6zGVbqNMA
Notice the rear housing is the first thing you pull off and it includes the sides of the phone.
Here is the titanium rear housing for the n7100 (should work just fine with the VZW) http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-samsung-galaxy-note-ii-n7100-rear-housing.html
I have the titanium gray version and it also has the silver band. Is there any other option out there for say a black band?

If and when the black version is released, OEM parts will slowly start to show up. As of now only titanium and white OEM parts are available. Perhaps you can find a non OEM in different colors, but I would stick with OEM

I put my gn2 is in this case that makes it titanium grey all around...no scuffs or smudges here. the case adds virtually no extra bulk to the device and its also shock resistant!

Lol, that's certainly the easiest way to get rid of the silver band.
I have a rock quicksand case that is super minimal also and gives you an awesome grip on the phone.
That backplate also includes the holes for wireless charging. That's a win in my book. Purchasing one of these.

Cool cases but I prefer all around cases than snap ones.... They tend to pop off when you drop your phone.

Trust me I'm very very careful with my phones (except when I'm going on a rampage). But with snap cases I just feel vulnerable for some reason I rather have thick otterboxes or a light tpu case.

Not much of a difference.
I bought the grey chassis back from ebay ($15) and installed on my Verizon White phone. The case is a GSM and isn't compatible so I have to cut/melt some of it. All in all, it ruined my 4g since the antenna placements seem to be different.
The after effect of the smoked chrome - you could hardly tell a difference and really doesn't grant the extra frustration/work. I have a case on my phone now and doesn't show at all.

S3 bezel cracking issue

Hi everyone,
I'm considering moving from a Note 2 to an S3. I love my note but it feels a bit large and cumbersome.
On researching the S3 I noticed a number of threads (mainly from last year) about the prevalence of the bezel on the S3 cracking in various places (under the volume and power buttons, by the micro usb port etc.)
I was wondering how widespread these issues were. Do all S3's inevitably suffer from them or are there people out there who have had their S3 from release day with no issues?
Thanks all.
Shouldve asked in those threads, and in the correct section not to clutter up the forum
Mine isn't cracked but my gfs couisins is in 3 places but I think that's from being dropped

Its a common problem. Its purely cosmetic.

How long have you had yours for?
@rootSU I appreciate it's only cosmetic but seeing as the only straightforward way to replace the bezel is by replacing the screen too it's not really something I'd take a risk with. On the note 2 the bezel can be unclipped and replaced for ~£10.
You know the problem exists and now you know its fairly common. If this is a concern, avoid the s3

About 8 months til my crack appeared at a guess btw. Its annoying and means I'll probably never be able to sell. I would avoid now if I'd have expected this problem

Mine is cracked near volume racker. It is only cosmetic. Don'n think it is selling problem for those want to sell it and those want to buy used device.

I wouldn't buy one with a cracked bezel. I can only ever judge a situation by my own standards. So if you would buy one, then I guess you're the same

Selling a damaged phone gets me less money than a phone is worth to me. You may aswell give up. You'll never get me to sell my phone cheap to you.
But who would buy a phone knowing that there's a chance its resale value will half due to cosmetic faults? They don't get it cheap on the off chance it breaks.
If I knew I could only resell this phone at half its second hand value, I would never have bought it

I'm with you to be honest. I cannot stand buying something that is already visibly damaged and before buying anything second hand I scour the device looking for marks and scratches - even the lightest ones.
I'm still sat on the fence at the moment wrt the bezel. Does anyone thing newer s3's might be better constructed, and I assume there are people who have had their s3 from launch and have had no issues with bezel cracking whatsoever?
For those that use cases what kind of cases cover the bezel? I'm not a huge fan of cases particularly because of the bulk they add, but if there is a slim case available it would at least be a solution of sorts should the bezel ever crack for me.
I recently bought an alu case. Its the only one that covers the crack. It wont prevent the cracking though
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
2 SGS I9300 here and both of them have about 2-3 cracks on the bezel.
My white S3 is still perfect, I keep it in official Samsung Protective Cover or the Slim one.
I am very careful when I insert headphones or usb charger not to scratch the phone.
Its more to do with expansion and contraction than not being careful

Twice unfortunately, once face down onto a tile floor and cracked the LCD display (not the glass though), then a few weeks after getting my replacement it fell getting out of my car and cracked the display again. Ausurion canceled me
never...
All it takes is one drop right on the face to smash the glass. It's a bad design flaw. The glass is glued on so that it sticks out past the bezel. The bezel needs to guard the glass. I hope they fix this on the GN3. Don't carry it around without a case. You'll be sorry.
Dropped it twice on concrete but luckily both times my Otterbox did its job. Definarltely a satisfied customer.

Two days and a broken screen.

I have had so many Samsung phones, and I have dropped all of them in so many ways and have never had a broken screen. I got my S5 on Thursday and got a case right away. Today my phone fell face down from my chair like 12 inches high. To my disappointment, my phone got a crack on the screen from side to side. So much for that gorilla 3 screen.

Ouch, you have a picture of the crack? Supposedly the thicker bezel of the s5 vs the s4 helps against screen cracks.

Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk
It's crazy cause I have dropped phones from a huge distance and been okay and then other times I have dropped them from a couple feet and they broke. It's all in how they land but that is why I have purchased a glass screen protector for all of my latest devices cause it's a small price to pay to know that your phone screen will make it through a drop. Sorry to hear though! It sucks royally! Good luck to ya...
Everything works. It just sucks it happened like that; in a case and from just a mere 12 inches high.

I feel bad for you - I have had that happen with other phones and I know that sinking feeling you get in your stomach as soon as you realize the screen is cracked - I am hoping you had insurance?
That really sucks, sorry to hear about your phone. Looks like I'll be investing in another tempered glass screen protector. They really do help against cracks. I dropped my note 3 from about 4 feet and the screen protector shattered, but my screen was untouched. I was amazed.
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
I'll get in touch with T-Mobile and find out my options. All I know is that I thought I did the right thing, got a case right away, but it didn't help.

Ouch! So sorry to hear this, man. Best of luck. I hope you can work them for a replacement.
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
Bummer man, all in how it lands, even with a case there's always a chance that the shock will hit just right (or wrong). I don't even bother with cases anymore because I always see people with their shattered phone screens in big cases. I think cases are probably the best for avoiding nicks to the body of the phone, but most are not gonna prevent a cracked screen.
i think if you didn't have the case, the screen would have shattered to an extent of being unusable, so it could have been worst. Typically, decent cases protect small falls due to the case's lip. I guess you were very unlucky.

Well you can still purchase insurance or a extended warranty. Also, if you purchased the phone with a premium credit card, your credit card company will fix it for you for free.
All of the broken screen threads blame the phone, and it always seems to be some ridiculous drop. "I dropped my phone two inches onto a pile of cotton balls and unicorn fur...screen shattered".
Gorilla glass is not break resistant, it is scratch resistant. It sucks that your screen is broken, but in no way is it Corning's or Samsung's fault.

Been SO curious about the glass screen protectors. you like them? I have always used the PET (hard plastic ones not the 3m film) and think they are great. Does the glass ones scratch less than the PET film ones?
OP, that really sucks man! However, If you dont want to use insurance (its probably about a $150 deductible) if you can live with it for a couple weeks, replacement glass should start popping up on ebay and such. I have replaced glass for many friends on a lot of different phones and its SUPER easy. You can usually buy a kit with the tools you need and everything for less than $20. :good:

Yes and they last for a very long time assuming you don';t chip the glass and you put it on properly. I had mine on for almost a year without any issues on the M7.

Self refurbish?

I bought my s3 second hand and it looks terrible, you can pick up full housing, glass and back for £15, anyone done this before? I don't fancy paying for a new LCD but the heat gun method looks sketchy at best
