Wierd issue - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My s6 edge (925f) running MM btu is unable to see visible 5ghz dfs channels or the lower range 36-44. It sees anything above 149. All laptops, other iphones see the lower range as well. So we can exclude router issues. I had the same issue earlier on LL.
My wifes s6 edge (925i) has thr same problem.
Any ideas?

Very slow wifi

Having issues with extremely slow wifi on my device. If I'm upstairs I can't even connect to my router. If I'm downstairs I connect but get horribly slow speeds. My other devices see like 8 wifi networks in my area, but I see only mine with the s4. If I try to enter the name of an open wifi network I know exists in my neighborhood, the S4 can't even see it.
I tested out disabling security on my router, and my speeds jumped up to normal if I was right next to the router. However moving to other locations in the house I still lose connection. If I turn on any kind of wireless security on the router, the speeds are super slow even right next to the router. In the 600Kb range (I have a 20Mb internet).
Almost sounds like a hardware issue to me. Tempted to bring it to Verizon, but who knows if they even have replacement devices at this point.
EDIT: So I managed to get the device to get fast wifi with security turned on by messing with security settings on my router. But if I do a speedtest right next to the router, I get great speeds. If I walk upstairs, and do another test, it's like I went back to 1997. Suddenly my ping is in the hundreds, and I'm getting 56K speeds. Walk downstairs again, and run it again, BAM fast pings and 20Mb downloads. The GNex gets 20Mb speeds throughout the entire house.
I have the device right next to my Galaxy Nexus right now. The GNex can see my network, and 5 others in my area. The S4 can only see my network.
Could very well be a hardware issue with the actual unit - I don't have any WiFi problems at all here - is this running on stock? If so I would recommend seeing if you get a replacement unit if it helps - if not then I would ask what settings are on your router? is it 5ghz (i have had problems with that on ALL devices)
Are you using a case or custom back cover? If so try it without the case/back cover.

I'm running stock rooted.
I'm using a case, I've tried it without and it makes no difference.
My router also does 2.4ghz and 5ghz, and I've tried both and it makes no difference. I generally use the 5ghz, because the signal is bit better.
The oddest thing to me is that this thing can't see a single other wifi network in my area. My other devices will see multiple wifi networks.
Go into your router and disable (uncheck) the WMM option. Odds are youre having the constant connect/disconnect from some routers, especially but not limited to DLink DIR-655 and DIR 855 models. The disconnects and reconnects are quick enough that you sometimes won't see the wifi icon disappear and reappear.
I had the issue (i have the DIR-655) and unchecking the WMM (Wifi MultiMedia) fixed the issue.
I have that option disabled.
I really think this is just the wifi radio being weak compared to my other devices. Not sure if its a defect, or just the way the verizon s4 is. The performance is fine in the same room as my router, or even in the room directly above it. In the furthest from it in the house, however, the S4 just can't get any connection over barely 1 bar, and the signal in wireless signal info is horrible. Not being able to see other wifi networks in my area is the most telling thing to me. Even if I walk around my neighborhood, I can't see any others. Maybe if I walked right up to someone's house I could, but I haven't wanted to look pervy, so I haven't tried that. At this moment my Gnex can see 5 other networks sitting in the exact same spot as my S4. The S4 just sees my networks.
Yeah sounds like yours is defective. On mine I can see networks from all around my neighborhood. (~5 of them)

So today I finally came into work after being off for awhile, and brought my S4 in for the first time. We have open wifi at work everywhere with multiple access points per floor, so no matter where you are you should get 3-4 bars of wifi signal. From my desk where I usually get the full four bars on my GNex, my S4 gets 1 bar of wifi. Doing a speedtest, I get 2000kbps down, 872kbps up. My GNex gets 35Mb down, and around 25Mb up on the same wifi connection. So yea, there is something seriously wrong with this thing.
Damn I guess I need to flash back to stock and take it in.
I took took mine to Verizon and they swapped it out. This one gets a great wifi signal. The capper was when I was in the store and their display phones could see all the local wifi networks, and mine couldn't. Mine was barely able to connect to their instore wifi. New one works perfectly.

[Q] Weak WiFi Reception

Just picked up the HTC One Max from Verizon yesterday. I have not rooted it or done anything other than set up email. As soon as I brought it home I noticed that it was having trouble with my home's WiFi that my Gnex didn't have. I placed my Kindle, my Gnex, and the HTC One on the table next to each other. The router shows the signal from the Kindle as -35 dbm, the Gnex as -37 dbm and the HTC One Max as -60 dbm. Considering that it's 12 feet from the router with no walls in between, that's an awful signal. It causes the Max to be limited to about 11 Mbps. When I take the Max into another room it just drops the WiFi altogether.
Is there some setting I might be overlooking? I tried turning off WiFi optimization, but that didn't change anything.
Here's a picture of WiFi Analyzer running on the Gnex and the Max side by side to illustrate.
Nexus = cheap plastic frame while One Max = metal frame and dual stereo speakers (aka stereo interference that affects reception).
I still choose the Max.

I agree with your assessment of the build quality of Samsungs (I went from a Gnex to a Max for a reason), but working WiFi is a must. I can't get 4G or even 3G most of the time at home and I don't have unlimited data anyway. The Max won't even connect to the WiFi in the next room. I can't believe this is how all Maxs are, so I'll exchange it tomorrow and check it out.

Mine is a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 running Tomato, but I don't know what's running on the other routers the Gnex is picking up. The router model won't matter in a side-by-side comparison of signal strength anyway - the router only broadcasts one signal and each phone receives that signal. As long as they're in the same place, the power of the signal reaching them will be the same. You can see that in this example where the Gnex is picking up three other routers that are presumably different models than my own, and that don't even register on the Max. If WiFi analyzer is anything close to correct, the Gnex is 1,000 times more sensitive than the Max. The Gnex registers about the same as my Kindle and the wife's Droid X2, so I don't think Samsung has anything special going on. I can see having some difference between designs and WiFi chips, etc., but I really don't believe Samsung's WiFi circuit is 1,000X more powerful than HTC's. That's about what I'd expect to see if the antenna weren't connected or some such.
On the other hand, my cellular reception is phemomenal compared to the Gnex. I just hope it's this particular Max with a problem so I can just exchange it and use WiFi.
I don't have any issues with wifi connectivity on my Max. I haven't run any analyzers because I haven't had the need to. I would take it in.

Only reason I ask is there had been a couple model routers that have had issues with HTC ones. What you describe has not been my experience. Exchange it.

I am pretty sure you have an hardware issue on your phone. Please go and exchange it. i speak from my experience of my One MAX dis-assembly. i used to get stable/ Full WiFi signals when it was stock, but when i re-assembled it i noticed a drop in WiFi signal and it was also not stable. i opened it up again to tweak the WiFi antennas a bit and tightened the screws properly and then it was good again.
I would suggest you to slightly tap / press on the top left of the phone(the speaker area the light sensor & top LCD bezel) a little and see if you WiFi improves and that would help to confirm the issue. You could place the phone on a firm table and press the area with your thumb and look at the WiFi bar's to check if you notice a difference.
Either way, you need to get the phone exchanged.

Thanks to everyone. I exchanged today and the WiFi reception is better than the Kindle and the Gnex. I hope that was an isolated issue and won't be something we see a lot of with the Max.

WiFi Issues

Hi, I recently got my OPX and came across some Wifi Issues.
Using it at home with a 2,4GHz b/g/n access point on channel 1 everything works flawlessly.
At university however, the connection is very unstable. The Wifi there is 2,4GHz also with b/g/n and a/n on channels 1, 6, 11.
On my Ipad, I get speeds of 60Mbit/s upwards, while my OPX varies between 3 and 20 Mbit/s - sometimes even no connection at all, despite being connected to the network.
It's also weird that upload speed is barely affected at all and stays relatively high.

Anybody got any idea if this is a hardware or software issue? Is the OPX simply not compatible with the WiFi standard my university uses?

[Help]Galaxy S3 wifi problem !!!

Hi !
I don't know why but my S3's wifi gets wierd problem. Yesterday I flash back from CM13 to CM12.1 with Boeffla kernel and then I flash ArchiDroid V3.15. When I connect to wifi it says "saved" and "connecting" all the times (still get the high signal). After trying many time it connects successfullly and I download a soft and troubleshoot it. It says:
- Link speed: 5Mbps
- 802.11b
- CCK
I can make sure my router provide 802.11n (2.4 and 5GHz). I tried to connect to other SSIDs and get same problem. I tried to stand next to AP and , whoa, it connects fast and downloads at full speed. But when I stand 5 meters away problem occurs again (still get high signal). I think maybe the antenna is the problem so i check the pin and use isopropyl to clean it and the wifi module but still get the problem. I don't know whether software or hardware problem. Please help ! (That is the gift my mother gave me in 2012 and i love it so much. And sorry for my bad english, i'm vietnamese).
Have you tried a static network setup?.
Have you rebooted your router and phone?.
Are you connecting to a gateway router?
When standing "5 metres" away is there any obstacles between your device and the router?.
It is possible to have full signal yet be on the very edge of the coverage area. The wifi signal reception will be stronger than the transmission as the router has more power available to it than the phone so the phone will see the router but the router can't pickup the weak signal of the device..
Another possibility is a broken aerial or faulty wifi module.

I've tried all even turn off and remove battery for 2 hours. When I standing 5 metres away there are no obstacles between me and the router (My router is TL-WR4300 with OpenWRT). My S6 and A7 can download at full speed when i'm standing very far so i think it's the phone problem.
I use logcat to see what's problem and it said "cannot lock location". I tested the bluetooth and it works well.
Have you tried the WPS Push Button?
I also flash install a modem Firmware Update via my TWRP.
I'm having trouble uploading but it is easy to find.
It's called "d2vzw_MF1_firmware_NE1_modem.zip".
Just a thought...

WiFi strength, range, and throughput

Rate this thread to express how you think the LG G6's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Pulls all WiFi signals in my home on all bandwidths with no issues, connects almost instant and is ready for use within seconds of connecting. I can use my WiFi in the house from my car much better when sitting outside or in the driveway and my routers are in the middle of the house block by tons of walls.
Seems to have trouble switching towers when driving. I have had data drops/disconnects when I can see several Verizon Towers nearby. Its not a verizon issue but phone issue. However, when stationary, seems to maintain high speeds. I have pulled faster speeds with this, then the S7 Edge snapdragon 820.
Mine works well and stays connected to my 5GHZ signal... my older phone/devices sometimes have issues connecting in the rooms at the farthest end of my home... which is not a big home by any means but it does have brick wall inbetween. It does very well.
Coming from the Note 5 the wifi on the G6 is amazing. My biggest gripe with the note 5 is at my Gym they have 3 different wifi and the note 5 most of the time would either not connect or switch wifi.
Walked in with the LG6 and instantly sync up to wifi and had no problems switching to different connections.
My WiFi experience on the G6 has been quite poor. WiFi disconnects all the time, like multiple times while watching a single YouTube video. I have WiFi set to stay on all the time, and my $30 Kindle Fire has perfect WiFi throughout the entire house and never disconnects. Really wondering how to fix this...

I used to have a "n" wifi router and my laptop (which supports ac mode) never work right. Until one day, I upgraded my router to "ac" supported one and it just works perfectly.
Just my 2 cents.
Gets farther from my wireless router than my note 4 did, and that was pretty good. Quite pleased.
Hi,
can anyone check if Your G6 have a problem with "not seeing" WiFi 2.4GHz networkson on channels 12,13,14 ?
I checked two G6 from one delivery. Phone is updated, I did a factory-reset twice. H870 Orange soft. I contact LG support and I was told that probably the motherboard need to replaced...the phone has 2 months and for me it is a factory defect.
