hi,
for use with Hackintosh, I installed a Dell DW1510 (Broadcom BCM4322) Wifi PCI card in my ThinkPad X220. It only barely works with Android x86 / Remix OS.
Out of the box, it is detected, Mac Address is displayed and it can be enabled, but it searches for wifi networks forever.
Using Linux, I installed newer (closed-source) firmware files. Now it does find wifi networks, but only 5GHz / -ac ones. Beside that, it's extremely slow (only getting about 4Mbit download, normally around 50Mbit). I know the "open-source" b43 is slower than the propietary broadcom-wl one, but it wasn't THAT much on Linux.
Is it possible to use/install the propietary broadcom-wl driver, or getting at least 2.4GHz working and more speed (It was around 15Mbit on Linux with b43)?

Did you have any success with your Wifi? I am running the same chip in a Macbook & experience the same problem... searching for networks forever. Could you describe how you installed the newer firmware files?

It's normal, modprobe does not Output anything. Don't reboot, just type exit to continue booting. If RemixOS reboots then, something else is wrong.

ok....i type modprobe in terminal in remix os...not at boot at remix
i tested but my wifi dosn't work...i have searching wifi and nothing appared
i have Broadcom BCM4352
I'd like to point out the exact way how to do this workaround to avoid any missunderstandings:
1. add the DEBUG=1 flag to your grub parameters and press F10 (only (U)EFI Booting, for Legacy Booting just press Enter)
2. wait for the debug terminal to come up
3. type modprobe wl (if no message appeared you're good to go) and then type exit to continue booting
4. enjoy your perfectly working WiFi (hopefully)
Please note this is only a temporary solution that you would have to repeat at each boot-up. Searching for a permament solution I only came across the same Reddit thread that @TheXorg already linked: by renaming/deleting a folder in the kernel/driver section I managed to achieve the same working WiFi result without having to type anything at boot-up.
Here's how:
In debug mode.. Delete ssb folder from /lib/modules/4.0.9-android-x86+/kernel/drivers.. It helped me wid other x86 android and the new pheonix os.. Idk abt remix but its worth a try

I simply installed a root explorer (Solid Explorer in my case) and renamed the folder within RemixOs. After a normal reboot without DEBUG=1 flag WiFi worked absolutely fine.

Hi @Whitest, did you try this on the latest version? Because I'm facing some issues with the mac mini 3.1 (early 2009 and broadcom chip like yours) and without success... Nothing happens with the modprobe and cant delete the folder on debug (it gives an error deleting).

You must have:
-an Archos gen8 A43--A70-A70S2Froyo-A101 OR an A70S2 HoneyComb version (must work perfectly....i hope)
-a little times to report bugs to fix
How install it:
-Copy-paste the image uncompress and the menu.lst files in the root of the INTERNAL sdcard of your tab (SDE menu -> mount card)
-RENAME THE KERNEL LIKE THIS: zImage (to delete .img)
-update the kernel and the initramfs.cpio.gz (SDE Menu)
-COPY AND PASTE A NEW DATA_IMAGE (data_ICS.img like previous version)
-you can install Gapp by copy and paste my Gapp (see my post in dev section about Cyanobiz) in "download" folder in /mnt/storage/
What's news:
-a new kernel based on 2.6.37 from Gen9 (HC device)
-PVR Driver update and dss compopsition activated
-New BT driver
-New Wifi driver (but little pb with it)
-compiled with ics toolchain from archos (optimised for their devices)
DON'T TRY THIS KERNEL WITH ANOTHER FIRMWARE/ROM!!
TO FIX:
-little pb with wifi, it cannot find any wifi
YOU MUST ENTER THE PARAMETERS MANUALLY TO CONNECT YOU TO YOUR WIFI!! (dhcp semi-works)
-DLNA/UPNP CRASH the wifi, don't use it
-USB Sharing - MTP?? (windows XP see something about MTP driver that it cannot install it, but i haven't any seven at home to try....) NEED TESTERS
-SOMETIMES the initramfs doesn't started, black screen after the first "archos" screen, just press 10sec power on to reboot (don't know how fix it, no debug)
-I HAVE OC THE DSP FOR A70S2 (froyo and HC version) to 880, says me if your tab freeze. The CPU is to 1.2GHz, i have no problem

OK,
I have seen this in the dmesg share by Mika:

Your tab is OC to 1.2GHz, i will pass to 1GHz to see if it's better.
A101 will have no problem to have an ICS with this kernel, it's a good news.
For A70 i will release another kernel to see if the frequency is the problem.
Wait this evening for another kernel (1.2GHz step will be activated for A70S2 only)

Can you try and report of it's better please? A43 can try too.
Just rename it zImage and install with initramfs in the first post.

Can you try to have adb working to have a real debug, your system starts (first starts is normal, all news apps are verify).
when you have adb, just tape adb shell dmesg or dmesg directly if are connected on your tab please?

My problem is that I can't get VirtualBox to install. It gets 3/4 way through installing, then "rolls back" and tells me there was a fatal error.
The problem as of current is the install of network virtual adapters on non-beta in Virtualbox. As genymotion completes install with the no V.B. install. And I don't blame the folks for waiting for Windows 10 to be final and stable before tackling it. You are beta testing Windows 10, as am I, So there really isn't a proper channel to apeal too. You should never install a beta OS on your main machine, at least not as the main OS, and expect everything to work smoothly. Im afraid to say it, but there is nothing we can do yet, just wait for M$ to straighten their end out, as it worked via build 10056, but M$ broke it after that. I am currently trying to get the beta Virtualbox to install via editing ORCA. I'll update when I have more.
Update
Virtualbox 5.0 beta 4 installs, no problem. However Genymotion refuses to see it installed as it is a beta, so until V.B. is finalized for 5.0, and Windows has been closer to completion, well see more. Whatever I tried in ORCA, I had no success. Ironically when Genymotion broke in Windows 10 build 10056, so did my sound but the most recent build, 10122, brought my sound back and allows VB betas to work but not the stable version.
if you want to try the beta for virtualbox 5.0 Beta 4 resides here :

I had to reinstall VB without the virtual network bridge again.

I think this is VirtualBox issue, not Genymotion`s
Virtualbox runs fine on Windows 10 build 10130. However genymotion seems to have problems initializing it. I believe this is a genymotion problem.

Well, i have "virtualization plugin not found" issue. It comes because of virtualbox can`t properly install "Host-only network adapter" driver on win10.
Sorry you are right about that. The problem is Virtualbox and host-only network adapter. I had created a VM in vbox and ran it so I thought it wasn't the problem.
What is really annoying is that it actually does create the adapter. If you go to Device Manger -> Network Adapters -> you will see Virtual box host-only adapters listed there.
So it's really close to working just something fails at the end of the process.
I was able to get genymotion working in Windows 10.
It is failing trying to create the host-only adapter, so you must do it yourself manually, and then it will use that.
- Run virtualbox as administrator
- Go to File -> Preferences -> Network -> Host Only Networks
- Add a new network. IP address 192.168.1.201, mask 255.255.255.0. Go to DHCP server and enable it. IP address 192.168.1.100, mask 255.255.255.0, lower bound 192.168.1.101, upper bound 192.168.1.199
- Save all and exit
- Now run genymotion.
It works!

Hello,
I can not add a new Host Only Networks on my PC. So I modified the existing network with same IP above but I can not run Genymotion.
I also tried to stop, start vboxdrv service (used sc.exe start vboxdrv on cmd) and it still was not success.
I restarted my PC many times and it still was not success too. But I saw that everytimes I run Genymotion, it had new network in Host Only Networks of VirtualBox. I think Genymotion didn't use my network that I configed before.
So I go to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Change adapter settings. I saw 2 VirtualBox Ethenet. I disabled once and configed the remain likes network in Host Only Networks of VirtualBox.
I run Genymotion again and it's works. I use Windows 10 Build 10162, Genymotion 2.5.0, VirtualBox-5.0.0_RC2. Please see my picture.
Sorry my English. Hope this help.
Thanks grennis .
@nguyenthanhhai
Your solution sounds awesome but I can't figure out how to do it.
If you could please post a step by step instruction with screenshots (all the way from installing virtualbox). Or just record yourself doing it (screen recording), that would be purely amazing !!!
Thanks so much for your help
The idea is to setup a host-only network the way genymotion likes it whether you do it from vbox (run as administrator!) like I did, or from WIndows network settings like nguyenthanhhai did.. Then it won't try to create a new one. Give the adapter IP address 192.168.1.201, mask 255.255.255.0. Go to DHCP server and enable it. IP address 192.168.1.100, mask 255.255.255.0, lower bound 192.168.1.101, upper bound 192.168.1.199. I also have genymotion running just fine, this does work.
At last
Yep, win 10 build 10162 works fine
At least, Genymotion working on build 10162. Thank you very much grennis and nguyenthanhhai.

Hi I can't connect to the Wlan Network at our university, which is using wpa2 enterprise.
When I click on the network nothing happens. On askubuntu I found something, but I don't know in which file on my phone I have to put the text in.
http://askubuntu.com/questions/586300/creating-a-wpa2-enterprise-connection-on-ubuntu-touch
Yes, WPA2 Enterprise isn't supported by the GUI yet.
The file you need to save that to needs to be called
Code:
/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/<your network's id>
Replace <your network's id> (including the brackets) with the ID of your Wifi network. In the example it would be "eduroam".
(Please note that you need to save the file as root, i.e. using sudo.)
I tried it yesterday with the file, but it didn't worked. But I am not sure if the file is correct for our network.
I followed this guide http://www.danbishop.org/2015/02/21...ther-802-1x-wireless-network-to-ubuntu-phone/ and now I get a connection. Only username and password have to be changed.

Sorry if this is a semi-hijack, but this seems the most relevant place for my question. I can't get access to my uni's wi-fi either (aquaris ubuntu edition phone), and I was wondering if anyone knows if the functionality for wpa2 is going to be added in the near future? I don't have ubuntu on a desktop atm and I don't want to have to install it just to tinker with my phone, which also seems a little bit daunting to me, worried I will explode my phone or something.
I don't know when they bring wpa2 enterprise support via gui, but I think it is a must have feature. You don't need ubuntu to get it working. I can upload the file I used, you just have to change 2 lines. You can use putty to put the file in the right location.

4. I attached a File. Just change username and password.
Then remove the file extension (remove the .txt)
You have to activate show file extensions in the windows explorer, to remove the file extension
5. Move the File on your phone e.g. in the download directory via usb
6. Run the windows command line tool (I use Super+R and then just run "cmd")
7. Run "adb shell" in the cmd
(When it says: "error: closed", you have to unlock your phone)
It should say something like "[email protected]" now.
8. Move the file from the Download-Folder to the Network-Manager-Folder:
"sudo cp Downloads/eduroam /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/"
Password should be your phone unlock password
9. Now go into the Networkmanager directory:
cd /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/
10. Run the following commands to set the right permissions for the file:
"sudo chown root eduroam"
"sudo chgrp root eduroam"
"sudo chmod 600 eduroam"
11. Reboot your Phone
For me this worked. My English is not that good, so just ask, if you have questions.

So far I can't get the adb shell to recognise the phone is there, it just keeps saying "error: device not found" so I'm kinda stumped right now
I got this error the first time, too. I just reinstalled adb, while the phone was plugged to my computer and unlocked and answered the driver question with yes, then some driver were installed.

Tried it on my friend's linux pc as well and it still says error device not found, guess I'm just going to have to wait for them to officially add in wpa2 functionality. Welp, back to my old phone for a while then, thanks for the help jonny-boy
@garatola Do you have the phone unlocked and the screen turned on when trying to connect? That's one requirement on Ubuntu.

Yup, I managed to find out about that before I first started trying to figure out how to fix this unfortunate situation
Does anyone know if or when there will be wpa2 functionality on this os? Or where I might ask? I need it for accessing my uni wifi stuff, and if it's going to be a while, I'll just shelf the phone and forget about it as a phone without internet access is pretty much just a paperweight for me. Thanks again for the help given so far everyone

According to the corresponding launchpad issue, a fix has just been made available. However, it will probably take a month until it is in the stable builds.
If adb still doesn't work for you and the issue is that important to you, you can always also try following the guide using the terminal app on the device itself. Will take some time to type the commands in but it should work.

I don't have access to a linux pc, and for some reason ubuntu wouldn't install for a dual boot when I tried that either. I also didn't see an app that would let me use the terminal on my phone - I've not had much luck with this lol. However, for some reason the adb stuff randomly started working on my friends linux pc and he friend managed to fix something up for me today, so all is well, for now at least :s (I also noticed the terminal app on the ubuntu store once I finally did get the net working.)
In the end, my friend used this http://www.danbishop.org/2015/02/21...ther-802-1x-wireless-network-to-ubuntu-phone/ to get it working, although the first time he tried adb wouldn't recognise my phone, and we don't know how it was righted, so sorry I can't pass on more info to people who might have the same problem =/
Thanks for all the replies again

Great that it finally worked.
Hi hoping for some help.
I have an old Compaq v2000, low specs 1.5g ram, running windows 7 32bit and vista dual boot.
Trying to dual boot remix beta, have followed all the instructions a couple of times now, can get it to work fine on my desktop.
So I use the installation exe and install onto the hard drive and reboot, dual boot options come up and I click on remix os and it loads for the first time, read write speed as around 32mb/second ,slow but it should be enough. It goes through the first time install stage and then goes to boot into remix but is just a blank screen with a cursor at the top left corner, and just stays like that. Keys don't do anything. Any ideas?
reboot and press ESC key to go to main menu....press E
highlight the line that says kernel, press E.
go to the end of the line by pressing END key...press spacebar and type DEBUG=1
Press Enter......Press B to boot. Look at the verbose output on your screen and report at what point you get stuck.
btw....why on earth are you using windows vista??? XD
Ok thanks for replying.
I have done what you said comes up with this:
"[ 1.321221] failed to find cpu0 device node
+ exec
+ exec
...could not find a valid V7 on sda
could not find a valid V7 on sda1
could not find a valid V7 on sda2
couldnt mount as ext3 due to feature incompatibilities found at /dev/sda2"
then typed exit to continue boot and said "couldnt probe module"
Using vista as its faster that 7 on this old thing.

Which one did u install...32bit or 64bit? Since your system is old, It might not support 64 bit.
And which graphics are you using....onboard or PCIe card?

hmmm...so it just stays at "couldn't probe module"??
i never got that error before....so dunno how to exactly deal with that.
maybe search/google will turn up something...

Have searched google and it seems to be a graphics problem, looks like its not supported at the moment, could be that Remix cannot locate the driver?
On a android x86 rom i installed on here the wifi had the same issue and that was managed to be fixed using a few commands that i found on google.
The VGA graphics adapter is RADEON Xpress 200G Series.
Hopefully it gets fixed in a later update.

Try booting with nomodeset vga=791 flag....
If it boots up, it means your gpu is not supported.
How do I connect to internet? I am using Remix through USB on Dell OptiPlex 780. My internet connects through a username and password which I have tried through the third option but did not work for me.
WiFi adapter not identifying by remix os
remix os is not recognising my WiFi adapter I tryed both Alfa and beta version but it is not recognised by bot of the versions. some one pls help me out of this problem.

Hey tried what you suggested and nothing.
I am able to go in and change the screen resolution but still only get a blank screen in DEBUG mode but still no actual display. Im guessing that its just not supported.
Video
I can see videos on the ROM but when i install Google Play Services, i can't see videos, any solution?
Specifically attempting to install it on an HP Envy Note 8 with an Atom x5 processor and 2GB of RAM. It originally had Windows 10 on it but I've pretty much wiped it out (formatted the entire SSD including recovery partitions).
I have an 8GB flashdrive formatted to FAT32. I run the 32 bit Remix OS installer and once it finishes I use a micro USB to USB adapter to insert the flash drive. When running the 64 bit installer the Flash Drive shows up as a bootable device and up on selecting I get an error with a memory location (ex)0x8XXXXXX something.
I tried the 32 bit installer (probably should have used that in the first place) I do the same steps use the Remix OS installer Tool and start up the tablet. However this time the tablet does not recognize the flash drive as a bootable device (literally just does not show up in the list of bootable devices have re-run the installer 3-4 times with no change). I have tried it with and without virtualization enabled and with and without secure boot enabled and get the same problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
update: I got it to boot 64 with secure boot disabled. How do actually install the files to the local drive?
Update 2: Was able to install to the local hard drive by hitting e on the selection screen (Guest or Resident) and adding INSTALL=1 DEBUG= to the end of the parameters section but above the existing new line.
It's working and running well however the touchscreen is unresponsive any way to get that working? Right now I'm using a micro USB splitter and a keyboard/mouse plugged into the USB ports.
Im in, I'll recieve my mi Pad 2 soon (same cpu) I'll try to get it working too when I rcieve it is there a working Android solution for ur envy?

Check if reloading the modules helps.
Either #rmmod i2c_hid && modprobe i2c_hid
Or start RemixOS from fully off i.e. don't reboot from Windows

Remix OS is the only OS on my tab I did a complete re-install and disconnected the Keyboard and Mouse before boot (didn't actually do that intentionally as a troubleshooting tip I just needed to attach the charger). It's working now!
One issue after the next~ but im excited so far. Touch screen is working OS is installed.
Now I can't get the screen to rotate though. I double checked auto rotate is on and I also attempted to double tap F11 to get it to manually rotate but neither seems to work
Edit: On top of that I get stuck at a flashing Remix OS screen after reboot now that doesn't go away even after around 20 minutes of waiting.

Yes it's force locked by default (think of it in terms of a PC and that makes sense)
Have a look at one of my threads; either Overlay Apps, etc.. Or systemless root
Personally I'd try the systemless root (if you are running 64bit which I guess you are); it has rotation enabled and has that touchscreen 'fix' as a su.d (init.d) script.
So after restarting the system I'm stuck at a flashing Remix OS (Remix OS is installed to my hard drive after using the installer I removed the USB drive and my initial boot was from the hard drive not a USB) any way to get around this?! Persists even after multiple reboots. I've let it sit for around 20 minutes on this one now.

Does mount show that /data is mounted? It could be that data.img has corrupted like from a bad unmount. Not sure if you have access to it; but to confirm modify grub to use guest mode (data in ram) by adding/changing DATA_IN_MEM=1
I tried add DATA_IN_MEM=1 to the boot but it didn't seem to make a difference (although it did notably restart on it's own instead of just staying at the flashing screen) where do I need to type "mount"?

just to check; you added the the DATA_... to the same line as linux... if so also add a DATA=

So after an attempted reinstall i get the same issue anytime I shut down and restart. The only way i can boot is from the installer screen by choosing "Run Android x86" the grub boot doesn't work
edit: using the data_in_mem and data= parameters it launches in guest mode
edit 2: guest mode keeps restarting itself and doesnt respond to keyboard input
edit 3: i had plugged in a flash drive unplugging it made it go back to the remixos logo and not boot

Sure
I run the "Remix OS for PC Installation Tool" from a separate windows PC and use the "USB DRIVE" option to put the 64 bit remix os files on my flash drive
I then use a powered USB HUB and a Micro USB to USB converter to plug in a keyboard and the flash drive. I hold down the volume down key on my tablet to get the boot options and then choose the flash drive as the boot drive
From there I'm given the option of "resident mode" and "guest mode" I hit "e" on the resident mode and add the lines INSTALL=1 and DEBUG= to the second from last line in the grub commands.
I then get a blue screen I choose my hard drive as the install location and choose to format it to ext4, I allow grub and grub 2 to install, and install it as "read/write". It then says "expecting to write" and then runs from 0 to 100% and says syncing to disk. From there I have the option to "Boot to Android X86" or "Restart" and I remove the flash drive.
If I choose "Boot to Android X86" it boots into remix OS and I can use it until I restart. After restart I get the flashing white Remix OS logo and it never finishes booting (just to be certain it wasn't an issue with it taking a while I literally let it sit over night for about 10 hours to see if it ever finished and it did not).
If I choose "Restart" I get the flashing white Remix OS logo after the grub screen and it never loads.
I think that should cover it.
