Hey all,
This is a noob question for sure, but here goes. I have a LG V10 H901, which is the t-mobile variant. But I am using it with AT&T. It works flawlessly. With that being said, I really don't like to see the T-Mobile boot animation. I want to change it. I know I need root. But my question is this: Am I to assume that since the hardware is T-Mobile, I will have to root it as a tmobile phone? Also, if I do root it, (tmobile), will I lose the info regarding the at&t network stuff?
Thanks all.

Yes you do have to root using the TMO method as this is the only root method available. When you unlock the bootloader (the first step in rooting), your device will get reset and wiped as if it was right out of the box. So yes you will have to at&t stuff and will have to enter the APN info again. But that is simple enough to do and does not take that long. That is the downside, the upside is you will achieve root and the device will be yours to do with as yours wish.
Philly,
Thank you for answering my questions. I was able to fully root the device w/o any hiccups.
Thanks again for helping me out!

You might as well get xposed modules going and run amplify and greenify for battery saving.

I've got an Atrix 4G that was originally locked to AT&T that I unlocked when I went to Europe for a while for use on European SIMs. Do I still need to use the AT&T options for the various files used when unlocking the bootloader and rooting? I'm on 4.5.141 if that's relevant. I also assume that my phone will remain carrier-unlocked regardless of whether I unlock the bootloader/root/install a new ROM?
I tried a brief search, but didn't really see much directly relevant to my question. Thanks in advance!

While I appreciate your response, you didn't actually answer my question. I also noted that I did search (and read that thread) and found nothing directly relevant.
I realize that unlocking the bootloader and carrier-unlocking aren't, in fact, the same thing. What I don't know, however, is whether the carrier unlock happens to affect anything else on the phone; sometimes one change on a system can have much more wide-reaching effects if you don't really know what's going on. I don't have a whole lot of experience with mobile systems, so I don't know if things like that happen often or at all with them, hence the question.

Yes and yes, but when in doubt, choose ATT (especially when returning to stock Blur, either with an SBF or fruitcake).
ROMs like CM7 are carrier agnostic, but you'll need to add your relevant APNs and flash the proper radio.
Carrier unlock is permanent.

Thanks a lot! That's what I expected, but I wanted to make absolutely sure before I started doing anything.
Newbie here I bought a US Cellular S4 but it is flashed to Verizon. I am able to use GSM overseas. Now I want to root and I wonder if I do that, will I lose the unlock? And is it possible to root flashed S4? Will it go back to US Cellular after rooting? Thanks for your help

I would try Saferoot.
Just rooting definitely shouldn't affect anything wrt carrier flashing, but there's always some amount of risk involved.

No, you won't lose the unlock. The i545 isn't SIM-locked unless your carrier does something very unusual.
Rooting your phone should work just fine, but be careful what you mess with afterwards if you want to be able to go back to stock.

"Flashing" to a non-VZ carrier usually only does cosmetic things to the phone- replacing VZ logos, adding the proper APNs, and so forth. The majority of the software is still VZ factory stock. So, you can still root, and still use whatever SIM you want.

Just looking to root the most current OTA, my search so far makes me believe its not possible. Is this true or am I missing something?
Thnak you!
I'm wondering the same thing. I recently had to get a replacement phone and unfortunately it's running stock 4.4.2. First time I've ever had a phone with a bootloader that couldn't be unlocked. I would like to at least have my phone rooted. Anyone out there willing to share a root solution with us?

I just bought Verizon Kyocera Brigadier at full retail price and without any contract because I want to use the phone with other carriers and in other countries. Verizon stated that the phone is Global Ready and it is unlocked out-of-the box. Well, this is partially true. When I use the phone with other carriers I can still make/receive Call and Message but I don't have data access. There is no way to add/edit APN
After searching a lot it seems that the only way is to root the phone and add the APN manually. The problem is I can not find any successful/working app/method to root this phone.
I have tried framaroot, Kingo root, Genius root, towelroot, etc but NONE is working
So please.. please again.. anyone could help me to root this phone I will be very thankful. I will gladly donate some money for your effort/help/time if it is successful :good:
This is the toughest phone in the world now with a good/decent spec and it should be awesome if I can use as 'real' smartphone. I have to use the phone with other carriers. Without a data access this is just a stupid though phone.
Any response, help, hint or comment are welcome. Thank you.
FYI, Android 4.4.2 ; Kernel dated 14 July
Hopefully someone will help

All Kyocera Brigadier user please reply here. Let's all wait together
This is an awesome phone.. can't wait for root!!!!
I would love to be able to root and get rid of all this bloat!
Brigadier has the latest firmware. And you need wait for an exploit. Many known exploits are here http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/framaroot/root-framaroot-one-click-apk-to-root-t2130276

Yes, I mentioned it in the first post. It doesn't work!
I too am waiting with fish on my tongue for a root method. My dad just got his first smartphone, this brigadier, and the bloatware is confusing the heck out of him lol. Too many options, I need to clean it up.
Sent via quantum entanglement, focused through my OnePlus One.
Have any of you guys tried sideloading the FM Radio apk?
Is it possible that Kyocera will produce the fix (add the APN manually)?

How it's possible to sell unlocked(without contract) version without 2G,3G access?
Is it possible that Kyocera will produce the fix for this issue?
Did you ask Kyocera's support about problem with 2G,3G?

No. Kyocera will not issue the fix. They bond with some agreement witj Verizon. It is all the same case with their other phone that sell via Verizon. They said it is Global ready and unlocked but they NEVER said that only for call/sms.
I knew it after a lot of reading from other forums. If I knew it before the maybe I will not buy this phone.
But actually.. maybe I can't resist the temptation of buying this Kyocera Brigadier. The WORLD TOUGHEST PHONE.

Greetings all!
For a long time I have sought to root my phone, but of all the Galaxy variants, this one is locked down tighter than Fort Knox!
I've read a ton but still many people leave out so much in there posts I can't quite keep up with the jargon....
Goal:
I want to use Wanam Exposed and Hidden Settings.
Additionally, I would like to have the option to flash custom ROM*S* in the future.
First:
Just because I root does that mean I have an unlocked bootloader?
Safestrap vs. TWRP. I barely understand what these are...
SO!
Which root method should I use to accomplish this? Can you please fully explain each step instead of directing me to ten other pages which detail how to download things? That gets overwhelming extremely quickly...
I would GREATLY appreciate it!!!

Thank you! Clearest directions yet.
So flashing a kernel is just... downloading a file and doing the steps detailed in Odin?
And Odin is specific to Samsung devices....
Once rooted, can I flash back to NK1? I know an issue with performing rooting can be that some functions will not work afterwards (namely wifi).
Also:
How will security change after rooting?
