Aggravated with android texting apps, any ideas. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been an android user for 5 years but recently my S6 got broken. So I used my daughters old iphone 5s for a few weeks. I have to admit the texts simplicity was really very nice. I receive a text with a popup in the middle of the screen, swipe left to dismiss or swipe right and the message app opens with the keyboard popping right up. Very convenient especially one handed. With android I need to swipe down the banner, tap reply and and then also tap in the reply area of the message to get the keyboard to pop up.
Ive tried a few apps with good results but just nothing as simple as the iphone. Chomp ok but won't show MMS in popup and no sending indicator. Textra good but small banner popup only on top of screen plus no sending indicator. Yaata best so far but sends all my pictures turned sideways. Also all the texting apps show all my previous texts once I download the app but the scrolling if VERY VERY choppy. I do plenty of one handed texting and just like it to be as simple as possible. Thanks, Tim

Notifications on the lock screen?

Is it possible to have notifications pop up on the lock screen? I'm thinking specifically of text messages here, as the phone makes a sound but doesn't really give any visual indication apart from a tiny LED blinking away.
Can it be done on the standard UI or do I need to install something else? Sorry for the noobish question, this is my second day using an Android phone
I think you mean like the iPhone does? Because I was just looking into that, but haven't found if a launcher or SMS app. Any help greatly appreciated.
Pretty much like the iPhone does yeah. That's the one drawback I've found so far moving over from iOS
Widgetzoid.....
Ive been using Handcent SMS and it has a feature similar to what you are asking for. Under the applications menu go to Notification Settings, Popup Settings and uncheck Privacy Mode. It works on the Motorola Droid and HTC Sensation.
Check out GO SMS Pro. It's a free messaging app that is skinnable with a theme that looks almost exactly like the iPhone. It also has popup notifications when you have a text, and can even turn your screen on when receiving messages.

Possible to quick reply to SMS from Notification tray?

Hey all,
Spent a lot of time on iOS. Really trying to make the transition to android and the one thing I really miss is the lockinfo / bitesms combo from cydia.
With this I was able to view all pending SMS / Emails on the lockscreen and also reply to SMS with a popup but only AFTER clicking on the notification.
What I'm looking for is the functionality to receive SMS, see the notification in the top bar, bull the tray down, click the SMS, get a quick reply popup to compose and send the message, collapse the tray and go back to what I was doing.
As of now I have to use the notification to open the messaging app or use a different messaging app altogether (handscent, Chomp), all of which seem to popup at the receipt of the message or not pop up at all.
Thanks!

Give GoSMS Pro a shot, not exactly what you've described, but it does use pop-ups that appear in front of the currently running app and allow you to quickly reply then go back to the previous app.
Idk if miui is out for s3 but that rom has a similar feature that i loved built in ..

Got GoSMS already and have been using it since earlier today. You're right that it's close but what I'd like is have the SMS pop up in the notification area and reply to it using a quickreply window when I get to it instead of it flashing up in front of me while I'm doing something. Also, as soon as you use a custom SMS app it no longer allows for the use of the raise to call motion - which I find is actually fairly useful!

honestly I miss BiteSMS too for my iphone 4... I hate Apple though.
Try SMS popup, it's the closest thing for me so far and you can change LED notification and contacts ringtone, make sure to disable the system messaging system so there wont be any conflict. Give me a heads up if you find anything better.

Bubble notifications

Awesome phone. I really do love it. Coming from the HTC Droid Incredible OG, however, there are some differences in how Sense works. (Keep an open mind, and know that I LIKED Sense 1.0 from that phone) Specifically, I REALLY miss the notification bubbles of the past. Now? Yes, they're there, but just like every other manufacturer, they don't stick around. If I have an email, my phone dings and vibrates and blinks. Great. I wake it up and lo, I see the notification bubble on the mail icon. Great. Then I tap the email app, and see that I have an unread email. Great! Then I tap the back button to go back to the home screen. That's where things break down. The mail icon no longer shows a notification bubble. I have lost the persistent ability to see how many unread emails/sms/facebook/whatever items unless I go back into the app in question.
Anyone familiar with other Android handset manufacturers will be right at home with this. I, however, am used to Sense 1.0 and the persistent bubble.
Does anyone know how to get this back, or if that's even possible? THANKS FOR LISTENING, CHILDREN!

[Q] Sense Notification Problems

Hi all,
A few weeks ago i got a DNA and overall i like it but i am becoming increasingly frustrated with the sense. Nothing major just some glitchy little things that are rather irritating.
First off I dont like the default messaging app that comes with the phone. Its slow and lacks features such as a little checkmark when sending texts to other verizon customers recieve a text. the only way i have found to get this is to get a notification in the status bar every time one is delivered which is annoying when a small checkmark next to the text will suffice. I also do not like the skins they have for it, as i prefer an iphone bubble look to my texts. Thus i have resorted to third party sms apps such as handcent, gosms, and iphone messages by barleystudios. with all three of these i have the same issue that seems to be caused by the sense. Neither the icon in the dock/homescreen or in the pulldown bar will display a small unread count on the icon as they are supposed to and the Sense seems to block the message preview box under the lock screen completely when receiving a new text while lockscreen is engaged. Anyone know how to fix this or an app that this isnt an issue with?
Also i have a macbook and use iCal and i have synced it with my gmail account but the app on my phone and iCal dont seem to want to communicate at all. Any fix for this?
no one?

Actionable SMS notification.

So I watching WWDC 2014 yesterday and really liked the Actionable Notification for SMS (dont care about other apps). IMO, its an essential part of phone and I really liked this feature. Anyways, for months now I been trying to find a popup quick reply app that lets me quick reply from lockscreen on my Nexus 5 running CM11. Some stuff I found was SMS popup which didnt work to good on handling multiple messages. I used EvolveSMS for a long time since it would unlock the screen to show you the popup sms and once you hit send it would bring you back to lock screen. However I was looking for something like ChompSMS where it did that but it gave me option to customize my popup menu, I have to option to open, close, reply, delete etc (I can customize buttons) for my popup screen. Plus I can swipe from one message to another if multiple are popping up at the same time. However I was more in line of something Apple introduced, simple and yet elegant, just sms straight from notification bar, pull down and type.
Anything like that?
