Hello Guys.
I'm pretty new to Android customizing, and my question I believe is noob one, but I couldn't find the answer yet.
So at the moment I'm running a stock 5.1.1 (23.4.A.1.264) flashed via FTF and FlashTool, the boot loader is unlocked via FlashTool as well. DRMs are lost.
Now I'm trying to find a solution to flash CWM or TWRP recovery so I'll be able to apply a DRM fix via zip install.
I've managed to successfully flash 4.4.4, apply DooMLoRD's kernel+CWM mod and installed DRM fix zip package. But cannot do the same now as there is no DooMLoRD's kernel+CWM for 5.1.1.
Could you please advise what may be the best solution here?
Thank you in advance

Follow this simple yet tedious guide to root and flash NUTs XZDR
Thank you 5ageman!
I've seen your post on how to setup the root and recovery, but it looks not that clear to me in terms of how it works under the bonnet.
At this point I tried AndroPlusKernel (v72) and TWRM 3.0 and it looks working for me - the zip is applied and any issues observed so far.
Anyway appreciate your reply and thanks for your help to beginners.

Hi guys, i've unlocked my bootloader and i've rooted. I flashed eXperience v.1.1 by Divaksh (stock based) and i want to return to stock ics 'cause i want to try cm9.1. Now the questions:
1- Will i have locked bootloader again?
2- Will i lost my root permission?
and the last: can i flash stock ics via CWM?
thank you :good:
Nope. Bootloader is independent of roms & kernels so you wont lose Bootloader unlock
But you'll always lose root if you flash Stock. And if you want to flash with cwm, see if anyone has uploaded a CWM flashable zip for the firmware. Else you need to use Flashtool
Hope it helps
Cheers

So this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2030261 would work just wiping and flashing with CWM?
Thanks for your help :fingers-crossed:
Yes I believe that ought to work fine
Enjoy
Cheers
Thanks man but the stock ics flashed by CWM and pc companion said me i had to update the system even if it was already .54 version and any attempt to update failed because of my unlocked bootloader. The same firmware flashed by flashtool didn't need any update and finally allowed my to boot "pure blood" ROM. Thanks anyway :cyclops:
Hello I got my Z Ultra a couple of months ago and now I want to root it and install custom recovery so that I can install custom roms. I'm coming from many Samsung phones and I'm not a complete noob with rooing and stuff, but it's different with the Sony. I couldn't find the thread for rooting and custom recovery. Could someone tell me how to root it, install the custom recovery, and unlock the bootloader (is that needed?) with links and stuff. Thanks in advance! :fingers-crossed:

Read the thread by LordManhattan in the general section, and the thread named towelroot. In the guide thread (not sure if it has been updated yet) just ignore the downgrade section and use the method in the towelroot thread to root, the rest is more or less the same:
Root with towelroot for xperia
Back up TA with "TA backup"
Unlock bootloader
Flash boot.img from ROM zip using flashtool or fastboot
Flash ROM from recovery that was installed in the step above
Thanks, mate!
hello all.
all the info out there is really confuse me.
some one please give me a valid links to here.
please correct me if im wrong somewhere in my understanding:
i own xperia Z2. my version is 5.1.1 stock.
the sound is crazy low ( after i put the max db at setting-sound...), so i searched what can i do about it, i've found there is a mod that fix this. as i understand, for that mod i should have recovery and rooted device, so i thought to myself "hey, if im gonna do root and install a recovery ill also will flash a nice rom"...
so i tried to follow some guides here but they are realy confused me.
at the links it says the root won't work for any device...
also it says it is gonna work for lockboot or something...
more over there is many methods and i dont know what is the simplest one.
there is more info that realy confused me and i want to be 100% sure im doing the correct steps...
I know i need to root and install a recovery, then i i need to pick some rom and flash it ( right?)
so please give me a links to here for what i need to flash a rom for my sony xperia z2 device ( v 5.1.1 stock).
ty for helping.
1.
The way i'd root my device on a locked bootloader is
- download flashtool and a older Firmware FTF
- FLASH the older firmware to my device and on the older firmware use a root tool to root my device
- I can now use root access to install recovery (XZdualrecovery)
- Download PRFcreator and a newer FTF with a superSU flashable zip
- Use prfcreator to make a flashable zip out of the new FW( include kernel and and all )
- copy it to device and flash it and be sure to wipe caches and data per big flash (e.g heavy FW changes)
- also google around for some things and make sure it all matches your device
(FTFs and xz recovery)
Also search for TA backup it may be useful for before you unlock your bootloader if you do
2/1. Use xda search tools to search Z2 section for root tool scripts
2. FTFs can be found in general section
3. You may want to add xz recovery to your upgrade flashable zip
4. Feel free to ask any aditional questions if you need more direction or detail
5. Unlocking your bootloader voids your warrenty (and wipes TA) if you restore your TA sony cant tell if you have unlocked your bootloader or not
(it also relocks your BL upon restoreing so be on a stock kernel)
what is FTF? is it the android version i have?
why i need an older one? i cant flash with 5.1.1?
about the steps:
[/COLOR]
is that root guide good for me?
http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/06/15/root-your-xperia-z2-with-locked-bootloader-guide/
after that i will use the next steps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...m-existenz-ultimate-1-0-5-light-dark-t2835196
am i good to go?
what if i want diferent rom after i will flash this one?

FTF
I dont know its definition but its a full Firmware with included partitions so its essentially a factory firmware package
Kindof
Ita FW version and android verson
- Android rootkits use security exploits which google or sony may patch respectively
Rootkits dont work with newer FWs you will have to try 4.4.2 or the 55FWs
That guide looks good
After flashing if be sure to download a Newer FTF that matches your ROM version and be sure you flash only kernel
(exclude all) (some roms may not include a kernel)
To flash a rom after that one you can reboot into recovery and flash any stock based rom (and stock kernel to match Fw Version if it changes heavily)

55fws i ment the last numbers of a build number
The bugs that rootkits exploit are mostly fixed on newer Firmware versions (fw for short)
You need to downgrade to 55 or 402 fw to use some of the rootkits
i following those steps:
Flash official Sony's 4.4.2 17.1.2.A.0.314 with flashtool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2162907)
Root using any method
Install NUT dual recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2261606) or the recovery of your choice.
Reboot in recovery, Wipe Data, Cache and Dalvik Cache.
Flash the rom.
Follow AROMA Installer.
so i went to do step 1:
but there- it is written:
With this release, before unlocking first time, root your device
so? i need to do step2 first, then step1?
That comment is about unlocking you bootloader. So no step 1 then step 2.

ok thx ill try it
So i recently updated to Marshmallow with root (using this guide hxxp://twigstechtips.blogspot.co.il/2016/04/sony-z5-compact-root-without-losing-ta.html)
And now i want to update to 32.2.A.0.224 (.....without wiping data......), but i'm not sure what exactly to do..
Here are my thoughts :
Download latest 32.2.A.0.224 FTF , extract the kernel from it and patch it (using hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/development/root-automatic-repack-stock-kernel-dm-t3301605)
Download latest SuperSU, then create flashable zip (using hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/tool-prfcreator-easily-create-pre-t2859904)
flash it , and then flash the patched kernel (maybe to reflash drm keys after? )
so i'm not quite sure that's the optimized method.. if you guys can share some light on it that would be great!
(ps : sorry about the links, not sure what are the exact rules on them)
I came here for this exact question as well.

Hi. I decided to go for it because TWRP was there to revert any mistake. I just followed Twig's guide again using the 32.2.A.0.224 firmware and newest version of tools and now happily running 6.0.1 with root.

Hi everyone , i'm new here but was told there's alot of fantastic people here that could help with my problem, so here goes.
I'm familiar with the process of using flashtool and downgrading my firmware , i recently flashed to 4.3 to enable root and then used towelroot , which worked fine, but i had issues with Link2sd not working correctly, which has important files i need to use. i decided just to go back to 5.1.1 ,so i flashed the firmware in the title and used Kingroot as a simple solution , but i honestly don't trust it being there. Ive read a few posts but most of the links for files have gone because the system is quite old now , can someone point me in the right direction and help me out please.
Bootloader - can't be unlocked (according to Sony)
Firmware 5.1.1 (current)
If any more information needs to be added, please let me know, thank you
If you don't want to use chineese root tools like KingRoot and Vroot, install any firmware like 4.4.4 or 5.0.2, after install recovery using option 3 (Installation on an unrooted ^(Lollipop 5.0^) ROM using rootkitXperia). Upon entering recovery, flash PreRooted 5.1.1 zip. As a result, you will have 5.1.1 with root and recovery.

Look in android development section. 5.0.2 is there.
