Browser not working - Ubuntu Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm testing a port for Xperia Z1c - http://forum.xda-developers.com/son.../test-ubuntu-touch-xperia-z1-compact-t3041831 - and the ROM boots and looks and runs great. WiFi and mobile networks show good connections, but the browser will not open. As soon as it starts to open, it closes. I used app store to install other browsers. Duck Duck Go does the same thing, and Liri opens and stays open, but doesn't do anything. The dev is not too motivated to spend too much time on it right now, so figured I'd check in here. Any ideas?

[Q] Browser opening new tabs every time I open web

Ive been trying out numerous web browsers and am finding that every time I go back to the home screen to do whatever and then decide to open up my browser again, its opening up a new tab every time. I press the home button to go back to my desktop if that helps any. Im finding I have about 10 tabs open. It never used to do this, and want to know how to get it to stop. Every browser I have tried recently does this. Im not rooted and just running the regular rom.
Im also noticing when I use the stock browser it always refreshes every time I open it.

Go to browser settings and there is an option called "open in background" it needs to be UNCHECKED
Open browser-hit menu key-scroll down to settings-scroll down to "open in background"
It is unchecked. But im still getting new tabs popping up every time I open a browser.
All of the browsers I use are opening up a new tab every time I go to use them. Plus, the regular stock browser keeps refreshing every time i open it. this all started this morning.
any ideas?

I had the problem.
The problem was the enabled option "SiteAdvisor" in McAfee Mobile Security.
menu..settings...applications..manage applications...find browser..clear cache and force stop. try that

Browser always running

So I was told to only use the back button to leave an app when I'm done, which closes it so its not running all the time. I do that, but for some reason it doesn't quite work on some apps... for instance on the browser, if my wifi session dies while using my campus wifi, I have to force close the browser for it to automatically bring up the login page. And the app quickdesk also shows that the browser is always running. I shouldn't have to force close, and I hear bad things about other task killers... but it wont end itself. what to do?
Sent from my Motorola Atrix using the XDA App
So after a long browsing session you hit back back back back back back back until the browser closes.?. Or you force kill it. Do you have a particular reason why or your just following someone else's 'back out' preferences? I say there is no reason to end your browser, none. If you are playing a game, then yes there might be advantages to backing out opposed to hitting the "home" key. However, just this morning I was playing PvZ and hit the home key, no lag and two hours later I opened the game to the same spot and continued.
The Atrix manages tasks very well, much better than my Captivate for instance. For the most part it will background a task so its not burning up cpu/bat. I'm sure you may have noticed the task manager popup from time to time saying "the following app has been running 45 minutes, would you like to kill it?". If you are worried about what apps are burning up your cpu/bat, use Watchdog.

Yeah I usually don't have a problem. My problem is that I want the browser to end so that it can start up a new session next time. Like I said with the wifi login...Usually my browser is on the google homepage, so since it never ends it will always open up google again. Then when my wifi session dies, I open the browser so that the login page will show up, but just google tries to load because it's trying to 'remember' a previous session with the app. I realize what I'm trying to explain probably sounds really confusing lol sorry.

How to set start page on mobile browser

I have very little data on my plan and don't use my phone a lot for internet so wondered if it's possible to set my START page to Google, for example.
Every thread I find about Chrome, those settings aren't there any more.
Can't find any for Firefox.
Can't find any for the default browser.
I just want the browser to start up EVERY SINGLE TIME with the blank Google search page rather than reloading the last tab I was in.
Thanks!!!!
Hello,
if you are using Chrome or Firefox, you need to close the tab, if you don't want to use he browser. If you will start it then, only the blank Google search will open.
No, if you are using Chrome or Firefox, it reopens the tab you last had open every time you reopen the browser.
I want to close the browser no matter what tab I had open and have it open only the page I want. It's easy to do on a desktop, I cannot find out how to do it on mobile. It reopens the last tab every single time I reopen the browser. I do not want this.
Why do you don't just close the tab?
You mean press home every time I exit the browser? Because I don't want to have to bother to do this. I just want to set a default start page. It can be done on the Blackberry no problem but Android doesn't seem to be able to do it any more.
No, not home. Just close all tabs by pressing X.
But maybe we should wait for another person, who knows this better.
what not in the settings
how is taht possipole due
no i think you didnt search well
in mine stock browser its in settings>>>start home page and there you can edit the url of the start page

TOPS MXV S905 2GB/8GB Rom Question

This Android TV box comes with Android 5.1.1 and its a P201. The thing is very smooth and runs well except for one thing. Whenever I hit the home button while in a app like Pandora or Google Play Music, the audio stops working immediately. If I hit the home button in any app I am in, its like the OS is completely killing the app. Why isn't there multitasking on this like on my Android phone. I would like to play music and surf Google Chrome but for some reason this isn't allowing background apps. Can someone help me out or point me in the right direction? I am willing to PayPal someone $10 if they can figure this out for me. I already have the device rooted if there are some things I need to tweak or change for it to work
Not a single person?
The home button kills the app, so by using it you close the app you wanted in background. It's a stupid bug or broken feature.
The only workaround I know is to use back button or task list to switch between apps or return to launcher

Mobile Browser of Your Choice / Which Would You Reccomend?

I'm curious to know which mobile browser you'd recommend using? I've been using Dolphin, which has been fine (great even) but after a recent update it has begun crashing repeatedly. I've been doing my research and I've been learning that if I turn off the Ad Blocking setting then it won't crash as often if at all (but then you're left open to the screen entirety ads among other things). I've also been learning that Dolphin isn't so great with privacy and data mining (correct?). I tried uninstalling Dolphin 12.0.2 and going with an older version from the XDA site but alas there's been little to no improvement.
So I've been looking at other browsers. I know to stay away from CM, the Cheetah Mobile browser, but what else is out there? I'm thinking about the stock Chrome browser that all Android devices come with but really don't care for it which is why I found Dolphin in the first place. I like the Samsung browser which I've seen in the Play Store and gave a test drive to. I also like Opera...
Also of interest. Apparently Dolphin is able to access my Google account and rebuild itself after a fresh install, whether I've uninstalled it and then installed it again or switched devices. This has been very helpful and allowed me to just pick up where I left off, but I've also become invested in the Dolphin ecosystem and it seems to be the only browser that'll access this. I'd like to just pull my favorites from one browser to another. Chrome won't do this, when I sign in I get an amalgamation of what's on the PC version of Chrome for both the computers I use at work and at home... I really don't want the two to commingle as there's stuff on both that I don't want on my mobile, and needless to say if I save a favorite on my mobile I don't want it showing up at work for unknowledgable eyes to possibly see.
So any help would be appreciated...
I use chrome. Never had issues.
