Yes its true. If some usb drive consumes more power it will not work.

thats not the case. It depends on power consumption.. ive been using 8gb pendrives for my XU without problems its just the matter of which brand usb drive ur using try with some other company. Ive tested : Sandisk Cruze 8GB, Strontium Bold 8GB
I am using a 16gb flash drive working fine on my otg cable on Note 3. In order for it to work I formatted it to use FAT32 instead of NTFS. Seems android doesnt like NTFS.
Just keep in mind the limitations of FAT32 you wont be able to copy a single file larger that 4gb or maybe even 2gb onto the drive.
wait up.... there is nothing with the GB's of the pendrive u try with a low power device (all model SanDisk pendrives have no issues with otg and recently Strontium has launched OTG special versions that are fast as well as consume less power)
Mostly the devices with a flashing LED's will not work as they consume more power than the others... but there is little hack to make it work but u need ROOT and Terminal emulator .
Can u Tell more about this hack?

plug in the device into the otg cable and then the cable into the phone.
wait till the power consumption error message is displayed.
using a root explorer(e.g. es file explorer) go to the folder 'root>sys>bus>usb>devices>1-1'
open the file 'bConfigurationValue' with a text editor(es text editor in my case). It should be blank. Edit and put the value 1 and save the file.
Your device will now be mounted and the message will be displayed in the statusbar.
try this
but by the way if the pendrive is shown empty then format it to fat32 format and it'll work fine

For USB
Hey, i'm posting this from my Remix OS 2.0 interface. I watched your tutorial and i don't thing it will work for my situation. I run Ubuntu and these tools are not available that i can find.
Remix is installed on a 16G USB.
When in the OS it reads only 4Gb of the USB.
I bought this thumb drive specifically for the Remix OS so i want to use the whole drive.
Is there a way to increase the volume while using it?
Link is working.....
For using whole drive as internal storage.
Check this my post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3299087

Great and simple tutorial to follow.
Converted my FAT32 partition to NTFS with EaseUS Partition Master 10.8 and follow the rest of the tutorial ... Internal storage now 16GB
Thanks
So Kabeer, is there a way to use this method for USB booting only as @superTard has said? I have the same request as he does, to boot only from USB but want to use the whole USB partition for space.

I've read that you could create an empty data folder in the root directory and then send the grub entry to it with
Data=
In the kernel string...
I'm testing here if this will work (maybe even in an ext4 partition).

Genius!
I know this is a x86 rom, but I think that rom can be ported to ARM devices. ..
Remix mini PC is quite likely a Samsung S4 and there are Ordroid hardwares, Octacore and very much good to run RemixOs. ..
http://magazine.odroid.com/
My Galaxy Note 3 is able to do a multiboot and that will be great for use it as mobile or HTPC (for exemple) with RemixOs

So, did this work?
I'm running rooted Remix OS off an 32 GB USB-3 flash drive and I would love to use more than 4 GB of it as storage for Remix OS!

So you are saying it will work even with a pendrive?
Have you tried it yourself?
Do I have to do a fresh install or can I use my existing installation pendrive?

OK, but have you tried it on a USB flash drive? And did it work for you on a USB flash drive?
Is the method exactly the same if doing it on a USB flash drive?

Awesome, thanks!
By the way, before I got the USB-3 flash drive, I ran Remix OS from a USB-2 flash drive. It worked just fine. Not as fast as USB-3, but still fine for testing purposes. You might be able to test your method using a USB-2 flash drive.
I'm a bit of a noob, so I think I'll wait until you have tried it to see what you say. By the way, some other guy has come up with another method to accomplish the same thing. But I didn't quite understand his instructions either.
Cheers
Hello,
I believe this is not working with UEFI, right? EasyUefi(2.2) will not let me select an NTFS parition..
Hello everyone,
I have a lenovo Z570 laptop running win 10 right now. It does not have a usb 3.0 port, however after reading posts here on this forum, I believe that it is not an issue for installing Remix OS.( It lags and all, but....)
The issue I am facing is,
I have downloaded the legacy version of the Remix OS image from the official website. I installed it in a USB stick ( 8 GB, formatted to FAT32) and a memory card ( 16GB, Formatted to FAT32). I used the Remix tool and I also tried the unetbootin tool as well.
Both the remix usb tool and the unetbootin installs the OS in the drive, but when I go to my BIOS, it doesnt show that drive at all. I wonder what I am doing wrong, because I am very familiar with OS and BIOS and have used USB booting to install windows in the same PC before.
Any help? I really wanna try and see the Remix OS before I partition my HDD for a dual boot setup.
Thanks in advance.

Making a partition and dual booting is much more simpler than playing around with the pendrives. Use the install to hard disk option. Its much better.

Nope. It clearly says 8gb minimum. Reading is a skill, not an art. Maybe you should try it sometimes.

Well done, u sure do live up to ur name
BTW, i was just wondering if that is a possibility. If u have ever played a game, u must have heard of min sys requirements. Sometimes we can go wayyyyy below them and still run it. + xda is all about workarounds and doing things that would look not possible .
I was assuming you would know a workaround or maybe a tip for me... but my bad
I am already excited about Remix going beta.
.
You can run remix os on 4gb buy you will barely have any space i believe the OS takes 3.6 gb and if I'm not mistaken your 4gb open fine should only have around 3.8 gb free

Any otg drive will work size does not matter. Also externally powered hdds work fine. Only issue would be file system types that are not supported by your current rom.
jokerpappu Sorry, translated by Google. (I can read - Badly I wrote a second inquiry)
cidxtc Thanks for explaining!
Resolved, I bought 2x128GB USB Flash Disk.

hi it is posible and i bet there is a easy way im to stupid to find so here is what i did take a old empty hdd and the biggest usb stick u have (not bigger than the hdd) download the remix os install it on the usb stick like normaly then kill the partition on the hard disk using minitool partition wizard (freeware) [aply changes] then tell it to clone the partitions of the usb stick to the hdd u want to use and select no rezising of partitions aply again , shutdown , plug hdd into laptop and done schould install like normal on usb youst from internal [later u can partition the remaining space on the hdd into nice 32gb pices so the os can read them and have unlimited space i bet there is a easyer way but that worked for me whit the 64 bit version and a crappy intel atom office system whitout uefi boot if someone has a more simple way please let me know ^^ also is there a way to turn of guest mode querry so it automaticly boots into residental mode ?

I mean:
1. Install on USB
2. Format the partition on HDD
3. Clone the USB to HDD
right?
I success to replace my Windows with RemixOS.
But how can I use the full partition of my HDD?
Installation of Remix OS on hard disk using all storage
Have a look at "How to install Remix OS to hard disk".
easy,it is like install it on VMware.
just create a boot able USB
boot from it.
then on boot press tab and enter quiet INSTALL=1 DEBUG=
if I remember correctly.
this will start the stand alone hdd formating tool and installation wizard.
this is very easy and you find tons of videos about it on YouTube.
