Just saw a video on the Verizon v10 root via tungkick, and didn't see that they unlocked bootloader, and on startup screen didn't show unlock bootloader. Wondering if we (tmobile v10) could do the same using LGUP and a tot file. Do we even have a tot file available for tmobile? And big props to tungkick.

Sorry for the dump question, but what is TOT??
I have been reading articles with that and I can figure out what it means...
I am expert with htc but not with Lg devices, actually this is my first lg phone... [emoji60]

I'm pretty sure OP is talking about the .TOT files in the newly revealed root method for Verizon V10 devices, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...ic-add-rootsystem-tot-vs990-tungkick-t3336345
If you can root both the Verizon and AT&T variants using the .TOT method, I'm confident to go out on a limb and say that it's possible for the T-Mobile variant as well. The only question is... why? Rooting will void your warranty anyways, so whether or not the unlocked bootloader message is displayed doesn't matter outside of your personal preferences.
If this is something that people want, I'd suggest contacting Tungkick.
Yeah there's no sense our variant having this root method....BUT that's just me.
Also trying to figure out why we'd need this method...

TOT files most likely mean TOTal files, containing contiguous raw dumps of specific areas of the flash memory which stores your firmware.
They can also be written in most devices without restrictions using the mmcblk0 method with the proper "seek" and "count" parameters.
If you explore them with a hex editor, you will find plenty of interesting "things", normally not found in stock files ( like DZ, KDZ, etc.)
Fun stuff...

I'm confused too as Tungkick already has provided a rooting solution for 6.0 on T-Mobile.

Has anyone tried using send_command to flash the LAF partition to BOOT (for backup sakes.. Need to be able to revert), after backing up to sdcard obviously, then flashing TMOBILE LAF to LAF partition. Rebooting the device again to download, now fastboot and oem unlocking? I was able to get this working on my old G3, I just got stuck in fastboot due to lg not having an official unlock tool (now available). From there TWRP could be flashed, and then root! After flashing the stock boot of course!!
Seriously!? Nobody responded!???? Maybe post this in the G5 Q&A????

No, and honestly I don't think there will be. AT&T has locked this device down, and I mean locked it down HARD. If AT&T will release a tot or kdz then maybe we could get root, as someone could just make a pre-rooted system of the tot or kdz (right, guys?) but until (or if) they release it, I don't think there will be root. I would be willing to test for some things if I knew I could just flash back to stock if things go wrong but right now I can't, so I'm not willing to test for anything as I don't have the money to just go purchase another device if this one bricks.

You are kind of on the right path, but there is no way to just "flash" the t-mobile LAF partition. There are too many security variables that you need to find a work-around for, along with trying to find a way to get it onto your device.
Another thing is that THE SEND_COMMAND DOES NOT WORK ON THE G5. This has been talked about on many other threads, and it doesn't work.

Well the biggest issue is on top of AT&T locking the device down, they aren't releasing a kdz or tot file.
I've been out of the game for awhile, but aren't they obligated to due to open source?

Yea that's what I was thinking. How can they be the only carrier that doesn't have to release the FW? They do the same thing on the AT&T S7 and S7E. Can they be sued for that?

I believe so, yes
What I'm wondering is how similar the Canadian model is to it. Or how much difference between the h831 and h830 there really could be.

pretty much the same in hardware.. but the entire bootstack is different. what works for tmobile would not work for H831. H831 is in the same boat as the ATT, Verizon and other locked variants. not possible to use the tmobile bootstack on non-tmo phones either.

for EU H850 devices that do not pass through LG's Bootloader Unlock Developer page... the only hope is for you all to contact LG and continuing to contact/complain until they either give you a valid reason why some H850 EU variants do not work when 95% of them do... and hopefully they will add your variant/buyer-type to the unlock program officially.

Is there a Way to manually unlock my tmobile LG V30? maybe a all in one toolkit or something. I would pay a company, but I'm broke at the moment. also a unlocking service is at min 160 since I have to use the app. any help would be greatly appreciated. I currently cants use my phone service as the darn phone I just bought isn't unlocked though it was supposed to be. oh yea and the jerk I bought it from has an unpaid balance so thers that as well. isn't craigslist amazing eh?
First, check your phone's IMEI status in T-Mobile DB here: https://www.t-mobile.com/verifyIMEI.aspx
If your phone is blocked, even if you have the money to pay for the unlock, it won't be successful.
The only method left is to flash the firmware and install another one.

Flash what firmware and install "another" what? You can't crossflash firmware of other variants on the LG V30.
Or you're talking about changing the IMEI, which can't be discussed on XDA.

I don't mean changing the IMEI, but if your is blocked only in T-Mobiel databases, theIMEI is not blacklisted (globally) , so you don't need to change it.

Just check if it's compatible with your model, I'm not sure.

I find it easier to just debloat manually...some people consider decent apps as boat and delete stuff you may like...so root delete the junk and enjoy

Boombox is partially debloated with some unnecessary apps being removed, but there's another full-sized stock rom named "Theory of Everything" which is more noticeably debloated and has the features for the AI software. I'd definitely recommend that to anybody new to the LG V30.

Once you convert to Oreo US998 or H930 there's not much to debloat. Wallpapers, Facebook. What else? And I like Facebook. LG Health? I sort of like that, actually.

Right. Jump you post #193 in that thread. Post #1 in that thread has copy and paste of post #193, but the original is easier to read than quoted version.
Print it out if you can. Don't skip steps. It clearly tells when the go to the next section. It's not hard, you just have to follow the steps.
CONCEPT: @TxanMoe discovered LG Oreo on the V30/V30+/V30S has nice flaw where you can flash your own bootloader unlock code to successfully unlock the bootloader, install TWRP and root.
But you need fastboot flash commands. In North America, only the carrier unlocked US998 has that. But you can use dev patched LGUP to convert any other North America phone (except T-mobile H932) to become a US998 Oreo phone. FLASH bootloader unlock code. BOOM. Sprint and Verizon users then add back LTE bands or VoLTE/Wi-fi calling.
Similar situation for the the rest of the world with the European H930 Oreo. Some differences but for this overall view, it's the same concept.
Now, we have learned the June Android security patch will have fix for "LG bootloaders". Unlock the bootloader while you can!
Thank you to all for the input. The phone arrived, but OLED has an issue, some green dot thats always on. More than just one stuck pixel.. back it goes...
