Newbie (well to the V30) here, coming over from the HTC 10, Nexus 5x previous to that... Would like to run a rather stock experience, rooted, twrp and debloated. I've got the AT&T version of this phone.
Which rom is the closest to that?
Thanks!

BoomBox rom falls under your criteria.
Just check if it's compatible with your model, I'm not sure.

I find it easier to just debloat manually...some people consider decent apps as boat and delete stuff you may like...so root delete the junk and enjoy

Boombox is partially debloated with some unnecessary apps being removed, but there's another full-sized stock rom named "Theory of Everything" which is more noticeably debloated and has the features for the AI software. I'd definitely recommend that to anybody new to the LG V30.
Thanks for the reply guys, i think i may jsut go stock and debloat on my own w/Titanium Backup...

Once you convert to Oreo US998 or H930 there's not much to debloat. Wallpapers, Facebook. What else? And I like Facebook. LG Health? I sort of like that, actually.

You need to actually read the instructions. Your haven't done that yet? You cannot bootloader unlock and root stock H931. You have convert root H931 to US998.

Right. Jump you post #193 in that thread. Post #1 in that thread has copy and paste of post #193, but the original is easier to read than quoted version.
Print it out if you can. Don't skip steps. It clearly tells when the go to the next section. It's not hard, you just have to follow the steps.
CONCEPT: @TxanMoe discovered LG Oreo on the V30/V30+/V30S has nice flaw where you can flash your own bootloader unlock code to successfully unlock the bootloader, install TWRP and root.
But you need fastboot flash commands. In North America, only the carrier unlocked US998 has that. But you can use dev patched LGUP to convert any other North America phone (except T-mobile H932) to become a US998 Oreo phone. FLASH bootloader unlock code. BOOM. Sprint and Verizon users then add back LTE bands or VoLTE/Wi-fi calling.
Similar situation for the the rest of the world with the European H930 Oreo. Some differences but for this overall view, it's the same concept.
Now, we have learned the June Android security patch will have fix for "LG bootloaders". Unlock the bootloader while you can!
Thank you to all for the input. The phone arrived, but OLED has an issue, some green dot thats always on. More than just one stuck pixel.. back it goes...

You won't lose any features "like Sony" if you stay on rooted stock firmware. Or stock based ROMs. I specifically address that at the the top of the WTF instructions -- about Sony. LG is not Sony
You won't trip safety net if you use Magisk. You're asking questions long answered in the WTF thread.

Yes. You have H930 on Oreo, so very easy for you.
Almost all V30/V30+/V30S on the planet can be bootloader unlocked and rooted, with the exception of the T-Mobile H932. But some are harder than others. The easiest are the ones already with fastboot flash commands and already on Oreo KDZ: US998, H930, H930DS.
For instance, the other North America variants have to Frankenstein convert (at least temporarily) to US998 for bootloader unlock and root.
I would like to know if there is a way to change/remove the current software on my LG V30. It is software version US99810c and I would like to have the Verizon version of software instead of the one that is currently installed. Is there a way to change this?

Yes, see the Frankenstein thread. You can convert any North American V30 to any other, except for T-mobile H932. Yes, the instructions are written to convert to US998 (as that's the most popular), but you can do it the other way around also.
You can convert US998 to Verizon VS996.
Another way of doing it is to ROOT the US998 and then flash the most recent VS996 stock firmware "ROM" via TWRP. That also converts to VS996.

Possibly you can go straight from US998 10C (Nougat) to latest Oreo VS996.
I found some good kernels for my Lg v30, but it's said only for h930, because ramdisk is different. Therefore, if I convert my us998 to h930 (by flashing official h930 KDZ or custom H930 rom like Boombox). Will I then be able to flash the kernel? Have the ramdisk been change after converting?

No, do not convert to H930. You'll brick your phone trying to flash H930 KDZ.
You can probably still use the kernels. "H930" in our development is generic for V30. The only time that not true is if you have T-MOBILE H932.
That's when all ROMs are either for H930 (almost everyone) or H932 (only that variant specifically).

I have flashed the Turtle kernel from telegram group, known as only for h930, for my stock 20e us998. The phone was booted but suddenly restarted right after access home screen. Then it repeated the circle.
i guess it's about the difference of ramdisk.

You can flash AOSP custom ROMs on US998. WHERE do we have to post it do people stop asking?
H930 is the generic Dev name for the V30, for AOSP ROMS. It just is. Only H932 can't flash H930 AOSP ROMs.
Do not try to flash H930 stock firmware on your US998.
Why do you think your need to flash H930 stock firmware on your US998?

Lets say for e.g I need to flash havoc I can give it a go on US998 Oreo? Or ill have to convert to H930 also other H930 Roms I know these are compatible but whats the workaround convert and flash or flash over US998

It's not confusing if you read the ROOT STICKY GUIDE guide. See post #2, point 3 in the link above.
If you're flashing Havoc "Pie" (LOS-16) yes you use stock Oreo base. But IF you're flashing Havoc "Android 10" (LOS-17) then you need stock Pie base.

You're welcome.
I wrote The ROOT STICKY GUIDE guide to answer such questions like that. And I put link to that guide in huge letters in the WTF instructions. But no one seems to go read it. Post #2 is "ADVICE ON CUSTOM ROMS".
The dev who created the first Los ROM had an H930. So he created the entire tree called H930 instead of V30.
But all the AOSP ROMs are compatible with all V30 variants except for T-Mobile H932.
So we get tons of questions like where are the US998 ROMs? Answer they're all the V30 AOSP ROMs.
A lot of people ask "how can I convert to H930 because I want to run H930 ROMs?" And the answer is, you don't have to do that.
While a talented, helpful person did write a guide on how to partially convert North American variants to H930, I do not recommend it at all. And I will continue to tell people not to do that. Most people want to do it because they want the LTE bands on the H930 or the H930DS. And the answer to that is, if you wanted those bands you should have bought H930 or H930DS.

Okay so I didn't plan to buy V30 I just got it cheap so took it coming from SD845 Mi8 had a 2XL in past too,so not being in US and H930 being more suitable for here do you think I'll benefit from H930's 4g bands ? Because I always thought baseband was more of a hardware thing don't get it how H930's modem will work with a US Variant
So far I am happy with LG US devices, there is no way around for Samsung US devices other than installing U(Unlocked Stock)
I just feel that My DAC on V10 sounded way better than both V20 and V30 although I'm sure these devices have newer DAC
I am planning to Stay on stock can kindly direct me to some mod that will improve cam quality and dac for Oreo or Pie smth stable and good for battery

Post #1 of the Root Sticky gives you link to the WTF INSTRUCTIONS you need for your variant. All download links are in the WTF instructions.
Read them carefully. Even print them out. Look for your scenario: US998 on Nougat. It's a decision tree... If you have this variant on X firmware, do this. If you have that variant on Y firmware, go there.
By the time you get to Section 5, everyone has fastboot flash commands and are (temporarily) on early Oreo. Then you run the bootloader unlock code.
Section 6 is installing TWRP and root files.
Section 7 is Troubleshooting Tips.
It's VERY important to read it all ahead of time, download the files you need, and not just jump in.

You don't say what variant you have, but known issue with US998 Pie 30b KDZ. So, I assume that's what you have.
See post #2 and post #6 of the US998 Pie KDZ thread for workarounds. If none work, then you have to stay of Oreo 20h until another KDZ is released.

I will use this as an opportunity to unlock bootloader, root and install TWRP.

Yes.
But if you can't get to Pie after installing TWRP, you should at least flash US998 20h, not 20a. 20a is only for bootloader unlock. Tons of fixes, improvements in 20e, 20f, 20g, 20h.

Yes. The WTF INSTRUCTIONS are all you need for ANY variant except for T-Mobile H932. You should read them so you wouldn't be asking unnecessary questions like this.
All North American variants (EXCEPT T-MOBILE H932) HAVE to (at least temporarily) convert to USS98 for bootloader unlock. If people are not Sprint customers, then they stay on US998 firmware or flash to other firmware. Sprint customers can flash back to Sprint TWRP flashable zip to get back on Sprint firmware.

All your questions will be answered in the WTF INSTRUCTIONS.
We've had bootloader unlock and root since May 2018 and all possible questions have already been asked and answered.
Read in web browser, not an app. Helps to print them out.
Note there are a dozen Troubleshooting Tips (Section 7) IN that post, so if you have any issues please don't ask questions until you've tried them all?
Because that's going to be our answer anyway.
Besides that, you can also SEARCH that WTF thread for key words. More recent posts would be more relevant, of course.
