Yes.
Read the Root Sticky.

Post #1 of the Root Sticky gives you link to the WTF INSTRUCTIONS you need for your variant. All download links are in the WTF instructions.
Read them carefully. Even print them out. Look for your scenario: US998 on Nougat. It's a decision tree... If you have this variant on X firmware, do this. If you have that variant on Y firmware, go there.
By the time you get to Section 5, everyone has fastboot flash commands and are (temporarily) on early Oreo. Then you run the bootloader unlock code.
Section 6 is installing TWRP and root files.
Section 7 is Troubleshooting Tips.
It's VERY important to read it all ahead of time, download the files you need, and not just jump in.

Which rom is stock yet debloated?

Newbie (well to the V30) here, coming over from the HTC 10, Nexus 5x previous to that... Would like to run a rather stock experience, rooted, twrp and debloated. I've got the AT&T version of this phone.
Which rom is the closest to that?
Thanks!

BoomBox rom falls under your criteria.
Just check if it's compatible with your model, I'm not sure.

I find it easier to just debloat manually...some people consider decent apps as boat and delete stuff you may like...so root delete the junk and enjoy

Boombox is partially debloated with some unnecessary apps being removed, but there's another full-sized stock rom named "Theory of Everything" which is more noticeably debloated and has the features for the AI software. I'd definitely recommend that to anybody new to the LG V30.
Thanks for the reply guys, i think i may jsut go stock and debloat on my own w/Titanium Backup...

Once you convert to Oreo US998 or H930 there's not much to debloat. Wallpapers, Facebook. What else? And I like Facebook. LG Health? I sort of like that, actually.

Ok whats this converting to US998 all about? I've got the H931 coming, so there is a way i read, so it seems to basically turn the phone into a unlocked version of the H931?

You need to actually read the instructions. Your haven't done that yet? You cannot bootloader unlock and root stock H931. You have convert root H931 to US998.

Don't have the phone yet, so been slowly going through this seeing what I have to learn coming from the HTC 10, was planning on following these instructions to get going: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/wtf-lg-v30-t3790500

Right. Jump you post #193 in that thread. Post #1 in that thread has copy and paste of post #193, but the original is easier to read than quoted version.
Print it out if you can. Don't skip steps. It clearly tells when the go to the next section. It's not hard, you just have to follow the steps.
CONCEPT: @TxanMoe discovered LG Oreo on the V30/V30+/V30S has nice flaw where you can flash your own bootloader unlock code to successfully unlock the bootloader, install TWRP and root.
But you need fastboot flash commands. In North America, only the carrier unlocked US998 has that. But you can use dev patched LGUP to convert any other North America phone (except T-mobile H932) to become a US998 Oreo phone. FLASH bootloader unlock code. BOOM. Sprint and Verizon users then add back LTE bands or VoLTE/Wi-fi calling.
Similar situation for the the rest of the world with the European H930 Oreo. Some differences but for this overall view, it's the same concept.
Now, we have learned the June Android security patch will have fix for "LG bootloaders". Unlock the bootloader while you can!
Thank you to all for the input. The phone arrived, but OLED has an issue, some green dot thats always on. More than just one stuck pixel.. back it goes...

Change operating/software system on LG V30

I would like to know if there is a way to change/remove the current software on my LG V30. It is software version US99810c and I would like to have the Verizon version of software instead of the one that is currently installed. Is there a way to change this?

Yes, see the Frankenstein thread. You can convert any North American V30 to any other, except for T-mobile H932. Yes, the instructions are written to convert to US998 (as that's the most popular), but you can do it the other way around also.
You can convert US998 to Verizon VS996.
Another way of doing it is to ROOT the US998 and then flash the most recent VS996 stock firmware "ROM" via TWRP. That also converts to VS996.

Thank you very much for the fast reply. I do have one more questions (I hope not to stupid), how do I get to that thread. If you have time would you please paste the link. Thanks again, Greg

LG V30 H932 Unlocked Bootloader but Updated by mistake.

Ok, so first I apologise if this has been posted, but upon searching I found nothing.
Ok, so I unlocked my bootloader when I was still on 10d, but my friend updated my phone (I left it at his house to tamper with, never thinking he'd update it) and now is on 20o and has the October 2018 security patch.
All that to say, can I still achieve root (or twrp or magisk?) though my V30 has been updated but because my bootloader is unlocked?
And I'm quite familiar with rooting and unlocking bootloaders but LG phones throw my brain into a haze.
Any help would be appreciated, and thank you in advance.

As long as you friend was "messing up" your phone why didn't he at least update you to the latest Oreo firmware? Some friend. T-Mobile H932 20o is old.

You searched and found nothing and know nothing about rooting the T-mobile H932? I find that hard to believe since the T-mobile H932 has been rooted since September 2018 and the thread is almost always prominently posted in the Guides section. Link posted below and the thread title is hilariously blunt and answers your question.
As you know or should know, for your T-Mobile H932, you will need to downgrade back to Nougat 10d to install TWRP and root. Ability to downgrade back to 10d has nothing to do with whether your bootloader is already unlocked or not. People on current T-mobile H932 20S can downgrade back to Nougat 10d to unlock bootloader, install TWRP and root.
As you know or should know, this method below is the only way to install TWRP and root the T-Mobile H932:
[ROOT] H932 - lafploit 1.5 (but you MUST downgrade to v10d)
(This method is ONLY for the T-mobile H932. Everyone uses the WTF method.)
Any further questions, please ask in that thread.
After you downgrade back to 10d, install TWRP and root, then you can use TWRP-flashable zip (ROM) to update to T-MOBILE H932 20S:
[STOCK] [H932] [20s] [Oreo] T-Mobile LG V30 Stock Collection (Includes Debloated)

Yes you can still roll back to 10D. Source? I bricked my device and recently just got it back from LG with the newest firmware on it. I'm rooted.

THANK YOU for the info.
I totally misunderstood it at first, but that's on me. Sometimes I'm dense.
What I should have said is, that it was unclear to me if I was able to root 20o or not.

No worries. I had no idea if going back to 10D was safe or not. I tried it anyways since it seems LG will fix your device no matter what.
I also got my own device back. I put a piece of tape on the plastic sim holder. When I got my device back, that was the first thing I looked for.

LG V30 US998 - Pie Update?

Hi again guys,
Do you know if the V30 US998 will get eventually the Pie update or I'll need to reconvert my V30 to H933?
Thanks for the answer!
Yes the US998 pie beta is already out so you will get it. Perhaps later than other models though

But, if I do the update to Pie beta, can I later upgrade the beta ROM to the official one? Does the phone stay rooted with TWRP and unlocked bootloader?
Thanks for the answers!
Yes on TWRP if you pick "partition DL" on kDZ and unchecked "recovery and recovery bak" partitions (preserving TWRP recovery) OR use TWRP flashable zip created from kdz. Neither will close the bootloader. Root needs Magisk 19.4 zip flashing afterwards

I answered in thread. You didn't follow instructions.
You tried FOTA update with full image KDZ with TWRP custom recovery INSTALLED.
I never ever have mentioned using FOTA and I never will. I specifically say IN THE INSTRUCTIONS do NOT mess with LGUP modes not mentioned in the instructions.
I am stuck

First, there is no US998 30a. You're trying to flash US998 30b.
See the top sentence of attached screenshot. It's right there at the top of the KDZ post where found US998 30b.
If you don't want to do all the steps of the workaround, then you should do see least update to most recent Oreo US998B 20h, from the same KDZ thread you got 20a.
EDIT:
I also just answered your almost identical question in the KDZ thread, but saw this one first. The thread is a better place to ask.

Seems stuck on LG life's Good screen after update

I received some updates today .. I installed them one after the other but with the last one it seems stuck on the LG Life's Good screen ... do I need to wait; does it take a very long time... already waited like 5 mins now or I can assume it's stuck and what should I do?
I was on oreo and I think the last update was pie

You don't say what variant you have, but known issue with US998 Pie 30b KDZ. So, I assume that's what you have.
See post #2 and post #6 of the US998 Pie KDZ thread for workarounds. If none work, then you have to stay of Oreo 20h until another KDZ is released.
i have us998 variant... I successfully flashed us99820a with lgup and it booted fine again.
I will use this as an opportunity to unlock bootloader, root and install TWRP.
Can I upgrade to pie using TWRP after that?

Yes.
But if you can't get to Pie after installing TWRP, you should at least flash US998 20h, not 20a. 20a is only for bootloader unlock. Tons of fixes, improvements in 20e, 20f, 20g, 20h.
I also found this unlock tutorial:

Yes. The WTF INSTRUCTIONS are all you need for ANY variant except for T-Mobile H932. You should read them so you wouldn't be asking unnecessary questions like this.
All North American variants (EXCEPT T-MOBILE H932) HAVE to (at least temporarily) convert to USS98 for bootloader unlock. If people are not Sprint customers, then they stay on US998 firmware or flash to other firmware. Sprint customers can flash back to Sprint TWRP flashable zip to get back on Sprint firmware.

All your questions will be answered in the WTF INSTRUCTIONS.
We've had bootloader unlock and root since May 2018 and all possible questions have already been asked and answered.
Read in web browser, not an app. Helps to print them out.
Note there are a dozen Troubleshooting Tips (Section 7) IN that post, so if you have any issues please don't ask questions until you've tried them all?
Because that's going to be our answer anyway.
Besides that, you can also SEARCH that WTF thread for key words. More recent posts would be more relevant, of course.
