Awesome. If someone can get the stock modem files this could be a 5.1.1 update (I hope) to NA phones.
Any chance the Canadian ROMs/updates can be applied to US moto E 1527? I know bootloader are locked but we're still talking about a legitimate marshmallow ROM made for the 1527 right ?

The Canadian model has a different region code than the US model (RETCA). In order to flash the Canadian model's ROM, you need to unlock the bootloader, so if it's the AT&T/GoPhone/Cricket model, no. If it's the Moto-direct model or Consumer Cellular model, yes.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Sounds like I'm out of luck. So much for Motorola. It's for the best I suppose, it's not exactly a stable device. Back to apple!

Can anyone confirm that the 5.1 update has broken band 12 LTE on the XT1527 Moto E?

When I purchased my phone, back in March 2015, the marketing material listed band 12. Now if you go to the motorola website they have removed band 12, this is such crap.
can anyone help me get back to 5.0.2?

Is your phone carrier branded? If it is, you can't do anything, as the bootloader is impossible to unlock.
The first thing to do would be finding 5.0.2 firmware for your device. This folder has a lot of firmwares, maybe yours is in here. If it is and you're sure it is, you'll need to unlock the bootloader to be able to downgrade, if your phone is carrier branden, I think you can't do this, according to this page. If your phone is a retail one, you'll be able to flash a firmware with band 12, and then re-flash 5.1 firmware with band 12.
I took care of it, my phone is not branded. Motorola support confirmed band 12 was disabled with 5.1. And before anyone asks, no you can't just flash the 5.0.2 radois on 5.1, that doesn't fix the band 12 problem, I tried it.

Yeah I am in the same boat..just bites. Band 12 was the only reason I got this phone.

Time for a new phone..
Hello
I want to buy moto e 2nd gen and i am confused which one to go for...
I want to be able to use it with my non us carrier and i want to install custom rom on it... Can i do that with xt 1527? I know xt1528 is useless when it comes to bootloader unlocking so no custom roms but it somehow works with gsm sim cards with some tinkering and AT&T variants can be unlocked to use with different carriers......
And here is this XT1526 Sprint, boost, US cellular all with same model number.... i am confused... which moto e 2nd gen should i buy...?
Please give me your advice...
Regards!!
Thinking about the G5 to replace my Moto G (2015). I use the AT&T network via Consumer Cellular. Will the unlocked T-mobile version work on the AT&T network with full LTE support? Will probably install a custom ROM and I understand you can't do that with the AT&T version of the G5. Thanks.
For purpose of unlocking BL/Rooting/TWRP/CustomRom....which model would you recommend and why? Has one ease of these steps over the other?
Asking cos I'm new to LG, from Sammy Notes

I'll go with the US997 since its officially supported for BL unlock. :good: although the H872 can be unlocked too. :good:

I agree. Only I really suggest staying away from the H872 - if only because it's a pain in the ass to root correctly and you run the risk of accidentally loosing your LAF partition (download mode) making it next to impossible to KDZ back to a stock image later. US997 is much more straightforward.

I came across a phone seller says it's a us997. Only more info he has given is LGUS997AUSAPL, GSM, nothing else.
Guys with that is there a way to know if this is the unlocked us997 and not the US cellular nor the Amazon version.

This is the model of the (correct) 997 at best buy: Model:LGUS997.AUSABK SKU:5870305
That's the one I have, but the phone itself says only: On my phone it says just US997BK
I'd suggest asking them to run the imei number on this website: http://www.imeipro.info/check_lg.html
All you need to know from the results is (one the esn is clean, of course) what the Buyer Code / Buyer name is - it will either be USA or AMZ (AMAZON).
They should be able to do that for you, you'd think.

Owner sent me this below. I just need to confirm that some US Cellular devices don't necessarily have a letter at the end of 997, such as this one, and that they are NOT the BL unlockable units, correct? That this is clearly a cdma unit, correct?
Brand: LG
Phone model: G6 US997
Serial number: 708KPGS0077615
Product model: LGUS997
Manufacture date: August 18, 2017
Shipped from factory: September 01, 2017
Estimated phone age: 1 year(s) 2 month(s) 3 week(s) 5 day(s)
Buyer code: UCL
Buyer name: U.S. Cellular

That device does not allow for bootloader unlock. Only the 997 purchased by buyer USA is bootloader unlock.
Is it cdma? Not sure there, I'd check the LG website to verify that. I had an Amazon one that was cdma, but I'm pretty sure the ones for t-mo are gsm only. US Cellular? I have no idea..

It's interesting that the RETAIL rom didn't work for me. I bought my Z2 directly from motorola in the US, and yet my phone is apparently designated albus_c, not just albus, so the update doesn't go through.

If you boot into your bootloader, it will tell you albus or albus_c. Not sure why you received the albus_c if you bought directly from motorola.
In that case, your phone is considered RETUS, not RETAIL. The link below will take you to the RETUS firmware listing, but Pie for this version has not been released yet.

I do not know, but from what I understand the bootloader cannot be unlocked on Verizon model so I doubt you can fastboot flash your device.
If you want the answer to that question your going tohave to try it.

download latest vzw firmware and flash it
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/albus/official/VZW/
I was and still am confused...I never knew what ALBUS meant. I thought it had something to do with another country Upgrade channel knowing that US is RETUS.
Seeing the 2nd post above-- I also bought my US Retail version from Moto and its the XT1710-01. When looking at phone settings - it mentioned RETUS somewhere. So I just booted to recovery- and Product/Variant is: albus XT1710-01. Does this mean that I can do the Fastboot method from OP?
Thx
Chris
Each Android device has it's code name. For Moto Z2 Play it is albus, although for some American devices it is albus_c. XT-1710-something is model number. In different countries, different models are sold. RETUS, RETAIL, RETEU, RETBR and so on are update channels. I believe that if your bootloader is locked, you can only flash update from the same channel and only update, not downgrade. If your bootloader is unlocked, you can flash also firmwares from other channels to update and downgrade but it still does not change your device's update channel.
So if you are not unlocked and your channel is RETUS, I don't think you can flash RETAIL or anything else than RETUS. And you will have to wait for Pie for RETUS to be released.

Wait, wait. I'm on an Albus C, which uses RETUS. Are you telling me that by simply unlocking the bootloader I could use the RETBR official ROM and just update my phone already? It's that simple? Cos it's been 2 months already and I'm quite tired of this stupid unnecessary wait.
