[guide][index] Everything G2M - LG G2 Mini
DISCLAIMER:
I am not responsible to anything going wrong with your device.
You are responsible to what you are doing with your phone, not me.
If you blame me, I will laugh in your face and I'll go grab a beer.
This guide is intended to be used for people who want to upgrade their Android experience. This process could be dangerous. Please follow instructions, and if in doubt, stop, and ask here. No one wants their phone bricked*.
"For quite a while you are using your LG G2 mini. You like the simplicity of Android 4.4/5.0.2 and you think LG did a good job on the UI. You live you life happily with the phone. But after a while you feel something is missing. you want more.
You googled "How to make my device awesome again" and you saw difficult terms, such as root, flashing, recovery and bootloader. You didn't know what they meant, but you knew you have to understand these terms and apply them to make your phone awesome again."
The steps to make your phone awesome again are fairly simple:
perform these steps in order from top to bottom. Do not skip any.
--Rooting--
"Yes... I remember seeing this term.. I vaguely remember something related to permissions.. but I am not totally sure what this means."
Root - The root directory of your phone. The home directory for all your important system files.
Rooting - Normally, you don't have access to this directory, since the manufacturer doesn't want you to mess with it. Rooting means you will give yourself access to this directory. Why do you want access to this directory? Because later on we will need access to it to change some files.
Most common question asked is: will this void my warranty? YES
How to Gain Root Access
Android 4.4
There are a few methods to try. If one fails, you will continue until you succeed.
Method 1
1. Go to this link
2. Click on the big lambda in the middle of the page ( ? )
3. Install the app on your phone
4. Run the app and tap on "make it rain"
5. Your phone will reboot
6. Download SuperSU from here. This app is a root access management tool, and it allows you to give certain apps root permissions.
7. The app might ask you to "update binaries". If so, let it update.
Optional: Install this app to make sure you have root access.
Method 2
Go to this link and follow the instructions.
Android 5.0.1
There is only one method for rooting on this version.
Method 1
1. Go to this link and follow the instructions
--Unlock Bootloader--
"Bootloader.... is that a machine that loads boots?"
Bootloader - Code that is executed before any Operating System starts to run. A bootloader is usually locked on an Android device because although it’s an open source OS, still the manufacturers want you to stick to their Android OS version specifically designed for the device. In order to apply this concept, manufacturers lock the bootloader. With a locked bootloader on Android devices, it is virtually impossible to flash a Custom ROM.
Most common question asked is: why do I need to unlock my bootloader? Unlocking the bootloader allows you to install custom Firmware on your Android phone.
How to Unlock the Bootloader
It is advised to be on Android 5.0.2 to unlock bootloader.
Android 4.4
There Is only one specific guide for the d620 / d620r models.
Method 1
1. Go to this link and follow instructions.
Android 5.0.2
There is a guide for all varients.
Method 1
1. Go to this link and follow the instructions
--Custom recovery--
"After reading so much I think I need to be recovered myself!"
Recovery - Software that can be used to restore the device to factory default settings, update its operating system, and perform other diagnostic tasks. A custom recovery is a third-party recovery environment. Flashing this recovery environment onto your device replaces the default, stock recovery environment with a third-party, customized recovery environment. A custom recovery environment will do the same things as the stock Android recovery. However, it will also have additional features. Custom recoveries often have the ability to create and restore device backups.
TWRP - Team Work Recovery Project is the most common custom recovery out there. It is highly advised to use it, since other recoveries made for this device are old and unstable.
Most common question asked is: why would I want to use a custom recovery? Custom recoveries allow you to install custom software such as ROMs and kernels.
How to Flash a Custom Recovery
1. If you already have a custom recovery, enter it and flash the new recovery zip.
2. If not, download and install THIS app and flash though it the recovery zip. Then you'll be able to enter the custom recovery.
All Android Versions
There are several versions of TWRP. It is recommended to use the latest version, though using an older version won't hurt.
1. Go to HERE for Twrp 3.0.2.0
2. Go to HERE for TWRP 2.8.7.0
--Custom Rom--
"That was it? It was so easy!"
Rom - stands for “read-only memory.” A custom ROM replaces your device’s Android operating system — normally stored in read-only memory — with a new version of the Android operating system. Custom roms usually have added features not available in stock Android.
Most common question asked is: why would I want to use a custom ROM? Read THIS article.
I'm sorry for any left out roms. A lot are old and not updated or contain bugs. An updated list of them can be found at all time in the "Android Development" section.
How to Flash a Custom Rom
1. Download a custom rom to your sd-card.
2. Enter twrp recovery.
3. Make a backup of system, data, boot and cache.
4. Flash the custom rom.
5. Optional: flash Gapps.
6. Reboot to system.

--Custom Kernel--
"I'm going deeper... so deep, I'm almost at the kernel!"
Kernel - The kernel is the piece of software that bridges the gap between the operating system (and installed apps) and the hardware in the device. Everything you do on your device involves the kernel. Increasing the volume while playing a video? Android doesn’t directly tell the speakers to increase output. Instead, it tells the kernel that it wants to increase the volume, and the kernel talks to the speaker to increase its output.
Most common question asked is: why would I want to use a custom KERNEL? Read THIS article.
How to Flash a Custom Kernel
1. Download a custom kernel to your sd-card.
2. Enter twrp recovery.
3. Make a backup of BOOT
4. Flash the custom kernel
5. Reboot to system.

Please do not quote the whole post.
The LG G2 mini Tegra edition is very different from the other varients. It has a different board and uses other components. Unfortunately, to this day there is no way of unlocking it's bootloader, but even if it could be unlocked, there is no rom development for it. I don't know about rooting it, but from my knowledge, there wasn't ever a serious discussion about rooting it. The main reason is this phone is mostly seen in Latin America, while the rest of the world uses the "normal" version of the phone.

Hi,
I have a LG G2 Mini D620 which is still on KitKat 4.4.2. It never got an OTA update to Lollipop.
It has:
Baseband version: MPSS.DI.2.0.1.c8-00012-M8926DAAAANAZM-1
Build Number: KOT49I.A1404447153
Software version: V10g-EUR-XX
It is rooted.
What I would like to do is upgrade it to at least lollipop. Stock lollipop is fine (custom rom is not a must).
Can you point me in the right direction as to what would be the best way to achieve this?
Regards.
You can find the version you want http://lg-phone-firmware.com/mobile/ and flash it to your phone

In the ROM section, you can see there is a thread with a flashable zip of stock lollipop. Of course read the instruction from rooting to the end, and if you have any problem just post here..

I tried different recoveries with different softwares but I always got the same problem.
I solved downgrading to kitkat and following the 4.4 method. I guess something was not working in the rooting procedure..
Hi guys, I have an D620k which is on KitKat. I want to update to Lollipop trough KDZ.

Lenovo P780 Official Stock + Vibe ROM's & Guides DISCLAIMER: *Your warranty is now void, BUT will regain if you flash back the proper stock ROM. *What you done to your phone is at your OWN RISK, you choose to do this modifications to your phone and don't blame me if anything goes wrong. Preface: Hi guys, I created this topic in order to help those who has difficulty finding stock ROM's for their P780. Plus I will tell you some info some precaution before you try flashing custom ROM's. -For All You Need Thread- :victory: **I no longer own this phone, but I will still update this thread regularly. Still a power beast though First thing first, before you download the ROM's please give me a :good: and read through my explanation about P780 ROM's ok? All right, so you guys know P780 have shipped with 2 version, which is China version and International (ROW) version, and the P780 can use both version of ROM's vice-versa. (Alternatively, you can flash Vibe ROM as well. Its a stock ROM from Official China Lenovo.) Well, so what's the difference between China ROM's and International ROM's? ROM [4GB]: China ROM release history: Does not include majority of Google apps, such as Play Store, Play Music, Search etc, but have many China bloatwares. Includes some useful features such as volume rocker wake. And only available in English & Chinese language. Other than that, it's just as same as the ROW version. 4GB partitioned as Data 2.5GB, Media 1GB Available Versions are: P780_S125_130529 P780_S129_130710 P780_S308_130814 P780_S135_300917 International ROM release history: Includes Google apps, and it's multilingual, no China bloatwares, no extra features such as volume rocker wake but still got those free apps like Camscanner etc. Other than that, it's just as same as the China version. ROW - Rest Of World 4GB partitioned as Data 2.1GB, Media 1.4GB Available Versions are: P780_ROW_S110_130629 P780_ROW_S116_130828 P780_ROW_S119_300913 P780_ROW_S123_131231 P780_ROW_S124_140403 Vibe ROM China based, does not include majority of Google apps, such as Play Store, Play Music, Search etc, but have many China bloatwares. Includes some useful features such as volume rocker wake. And only available in English & Chinese language. Refined UI. Read more at post #2. 4GB partitioned as Data 2.5GB, Media 1GB According to some sources, China and ROW version have different type of baseband file which will affect your mobile's reception signal. Recovery [4GB]: Please note that China and ROW uses different type recovery, flashing wrong version will causes bootloop. China CWM version is 6.0.2.8 CTR - CWM based version 6.0.4.4 ROW CWM version is 6.0.1.5 TWRP version is 2.6.3.0 CTR - CWM based version 6.0.4.4 Downloads Link Below Warning: Do not flash for 4GB devices mod on 8GB devices or 8GB devices mod on 4GB devices, will causes bootloop and IMEI problems etc. Booting Modes: Power + Vol UP = Factory mode, which test, diagnostics, the device & phone info. (but it is in chinese) Power + Vol DOWN = Meta mode, Mediatek specific mode, which used to perform some NAND alternative flashing process such as re-writing IMEI Power + Vol UP + DOWN = Recovery mode. Phone OFF + Connect USB Cable, SP flash mode. Warning, this is really important for whom intended to flash custom ROM's, please read. In XDA, there aren't many Custom ROM's available for our P780, but at the site needrom.com does have 10+ available ROM's at the moment, but many of it doesn't meant to flash over ROW version of base ROM, direct flashing custom ROM without changing your base ROM will result in soft-brick, which means boot-loop and the most common one is No IMEI, No baseband. This is an serious issue because No IMEI, No baseband will result your phone converted to an Android OS version of AndroidPod, because you can't make calls, SMS and data etc. If you didn't backup your IMEI and baseband before you flash custom ROM will result in PERMANENT SOFT-BRICK, the solution was to send back to service center for servicing. *Just like my phone, you wouldn't want that. EDIT: Good news, my new discovery. Not permanent soft brick anymore, refer here if you want to revive your phone. :victory: For current custom ROM's available on other sources please visit: http://www.needrom.com/phone-roms/lenovo/serial-p/p780/ ALWAYS make a full backup before modding your phone, please visit here and read post #3 and follow all the steps. Additional Backup Insurance: Backup IMEI using MobileUncleTools Backup entire whole stock ROM using CWM/TWRP Alright now you are assured, good luck on flashing. For flashing a stock ROM over PC, you will need SP Flash Tool and drivers to do that, for instruction, download links for the SP Flash Tool and custom stock ROM, please visit here and give @satanduck a :good:. Note: @satanduck ROM's already pre-rooted, debloated and have TWRP recovery installed by default. Rooting: You can use Framaroot to root your phone and choose Barahir exploit. (Only works on Stock ROM) For custom ROM such as Vibe ROM, please use vRoot to root your phone. (Works on any ROM) If you have CWM installed, you can flash this zip. (Works on any ROM) Repartitioning (4GB only): Repartition to 2.5, 3, 3.5GB for /data partition. ROW based - Link. China based - (removed, because not working) Battery Graph: on stock rom, doesnt matter which stock, row/chinese based or vibe based the battery option is hidden. Note: Well, from official Vibe ROM website, it claimed that you can flash directly in stock Android recovery. However, if anyone willing to try let me know whether does it work or not. Below is the method I used when I am flashing Vibe ROM. But still, it is because those are China based ROM, so if you are on International ROW ROM, I still suggest you change base before flashing. Installing ROM: Coming from ROW ROM proceed with 1st step. Coming from China ROM proceed with 4th step. Make a backup if necessary. 1. Turn On USB Debugging mode (ask Uncle Google if you don’t know how to do it) 2. Backup everything with MTKDroidTools IMPORTANT, DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP! Read here post #3. 3. Flash any China based ROM S125 (Stock or @satanduck ROM) and above with SP Flash Tool (post #1) 4a. Boot into the China ROM you’ve flashed (Let the ROM at least clean boot once) 4b. OR you can skip to the 7th step in stock recovery and flash Vibe ROM, BUT it's not recommended because you probably cannot flash SuperSU zip or Gapps in the stock recovery, unless you want to have a clean, unrooted device) 4.5 (If the ROM is not rooted then you should root it first before installing MobileUncleTools 5. Install MobileUncleTools (post #1) 6. Flash CWM 6.0.2.8 (post #1) In CWM 7. Install Vibe ROM 8. Install Gapps 9. Install SuperSU 10. Wipe data/cache (Factory Reset) and reboot. Done *OTA updates are AVAILABLE if your phone is not rooted, modded or have custom recovery etc. Rooting: Framaroot DOES NOT work on Vibe ROM. Credits to @Chainfire for the rooting solution. Thanks to him. :victory: Note: Strongly NOT recommended that you do OTA updates if the phone is rooted, modded or have custom recovery. It will possibly crashes your phone and causes your phone bootloop. Hi, nice initiative! However I feel compelled to tell you that ROW and Chinese base has quite different partitioning layout, not just simply having different language and apps. As a result : 1) Custom recoveries are different 2) Re-partitioning tools are different Failing to observe this may result in softbrick. However when you flash from Flash Tool u flash also the partition layout. If you flash from recovery, some ROMs come with it (i.e. official vibe seems to) some don't. Also worth noting before flashing any custom ROM is the factory ROM that came with the phone, if its ROW it may work better with ROW based radios, even if u do change base in the end. Keep up the good work!
Difference Between 4gb & 8gb soralz said: -Lenovo P780 Stock ROM's & Guides- Hi guys, I created this topic in order to help those who has difficulty finding stock ROM's for their P780. Plus I will tell you some info some precaution before you try flashing custom ROM's. -For All You Need Thread- :victory: DISCLAIMER: What you done to your phone is at your OWN RISK, you choose to do this modifications to your phone and don't blame me if anything goes wrong. First thing first, before you download the ROM's please give me a :good: and read through my explanation about P780 ROM's ok? All right, so you guys know P780 have 2 version, which is China version and International (ROW) version, and the P780 can use both version of ROM's vice-versa. Well, so what's the difference between China ROM's and International ROM's? [4GB Version] China ROM: Does not include majority of Google apps, such as Play Store, Play Music, Search etc. And only available in English & Chinese language. Other than that, it's just as same as the ROW version. Current Available Versions are: P780_S125_130529 P780_S129_130710 P780_S308_130814 P780_S135_300917 International ROM: Includes Google apps, and it's multilingual. Other than that, it's just as same as the China version. P780_ROW_S110_130629 P780_ROW_S116_130828 P780_ROW_S119_300913 P780_ROW_S123_131231 According to some sources, China and ROW version have different type of baseband file which will affect your mobile's reception signal. Warning: Do not flash for 4GB devices ROM on 8GB devices or 8GB devices ROM on 4GB devices Warning, this is really important for whom intended to flash custom ROM's, please read. This is an serious issue because No IMEI, No baseband will result your phone converted to an Android OS version of iPod, because you can't make calls, SMS and data etc. If you didn't backup your IMEI and baseband before you flash custom ROM will result in PERMANENT SOFT-BRICK, the solution was to send back to service center for servicing. *Just like my phone, you wouldn't want that. For current custom ROM's available please visit: http://www.needrom.com/phone-roms/lenovo/serial-p/p780/ Personally, I am not recommended that you flash custom ROM. It is because the risk of soft-bricking it is high, unless you are really curious / hand itchy to do so. Else a Xposed mod will be enough. Still wanna go on a flash Then you should make a full backup, please visit here and read post #3 and follow all the steps. Alright now you are assured, good luck on flashing. For flashing a stock ROM over PC, you will need SP Flash Tool and drivers, for instruction, download links for the SP Flash Tool and custom stock ROM, please visit here and give @satanduck a :good:. Note: @satanduck ROM's already pre-rooted, debloated and have TWRP recovery installed by default. Rooting: You can use Framaroot to root your phone and choose Barahir exploit. If wanna flash directly via recovery, I will suggest you will need to change to China based ROM S125 and above before flashing Vibe ROM (If you coming from International ROW ROM) and make a full backup of your stock ROM, this is because Vibe ROM is China based, no Gapps or root included by default, and have a lot of Lenovo bloatwares, but it also includes some amazing features and apps as well. I take so many precaution with IMEI issues this is because last time I bricked my P780, so now I make a full backup in case if anything goes wrong. Regarding about WCDMA 900MHz networks, I have no idea, probably it's hardware based limitation. If the hardware supports 900MHz networks then it should be working on 900MHz networks. 4.4 KitKat, no idea.

A question about flashing roms
Hello everyone, When you install a new rom via cwm you do not change the version of android even if in the settings you can find 5.0.2 for example, the version of android will staythe same, based on the original version of the firmware i'ts just the theme and applications that change to optimize the device, am I right? And are there any customs firmwares that really change the version of android to flash with odin for example ?

So, I'm new to this phone, and I want to install Trafalgar Square's( i think so) CM 12, and I'm rooted with Kingo, do I need to install Kingo when I install that CM 12, or just install that root fix or whatever(Sorry, i'm new to this)?
Wrong question, installing (newer CM) LineageOS Hey AcePlusMan, even if you have root on your device. Its not like a device has usually drivers for installing an OS for that purpose (like a laptop). The usual procedure is to 1. First do backup of everything, since you are root, you should be able to do that [and know how to restore!] Stock drivers for the phone would be useful therefore as well, just to be extra sure. 2. You need a tool for flashing, in special writing according memory on the storage of your phone. heimdall lately does not work (at least for me), use odin 3. Flash the recovery with the flashing tool (here odin) AND CHECK IF ITS WORKING -> twrp would be my choice 4. (doing backups once again if 1 fails, for easy recovering if anything goes wrong) 5. Flash accordingly your CM version -> CM is not anymore developed Instructions here, first you might want to do cyanogenmod installing, then the other. 1. https://devs-lab.com/download-install-cyanogenmod-14-galaxy-s3-i9300.html 2. https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/orig-development/official-lineageos-14-1-i9300-t3544531 Be aware that in the first post they installed another kernel and another modification of the ROM. It is your personal choice of use, if anything fails, you should be able to easily recover from recovery No warranty anything goes wrong, its your device and your responsibility. Best wishes

Moving from Android 4.4.2 to Android 5.0+ is an upgrade not an update. To upgrade you need a Custom ROM what requires you have to flash a Custom Recovery ( e.g. TWRP ) before. Do you have a 100% matching TWRP available?
Hey, Thank you for the quick reply. And thank you again for correcting that update-upgrade thing. Will keep it in mind. And I am sorry I couldn't find a custom ROM for my device online. I am not sure what exactly it means by flashing a custom recovery. Could you please explain it a little bit... or give some link from where I could find it out? Thank you.
