Hi there, I'm looking to buy a cheap smartwatch purely for replying to messages while at work, where my phone is not an option, however most messages I receive are through Viber, and not Hangouts. I'm wondering if Minuum, or any of the other keyboard options allow typing wherever voice input is available, or if somebody could at least confirm compatibility with Viber.
Thanks!

Nope sorry viber is voice input only the only thing minuum is good for is using apks from apps designed for normal android and for apps that have keyboards in them like all of appfour wear apps
Viber is in the Android Wear marketplace on Google Play.

I am considering buying the G Watch or the 360. My concern is the texting app I must use to be able to reply to text messages. I was told I need to use hangouts. I opened hangouts today on my G3 to get used to it and gotta say it kinda sucks. I hate the archive action, lack of customization and it doesn't pull contact photos in for all my people.
Are you able to use other texting apps to get full functionality of Android Wear?

I used evolve sms and know there is another that works but I haven't tried it.
I've been using GoSMS with no problems. I can reply and send text messages using my voice with no problems.
How is the Touchwiz + LG G Watch messaging working so far? I want to use it with my S5 and I have both the G Watch and Gear 1.
So we can install minuum keyboard but do any apps take text input?
so it's great that with Gear Notification Extender that I can receive and reply to Hangouts messages. Is there a way however to initiate a message to a hangout subscriber?
What I've been doing thus far is keeping a notification for them on my watch and simply replying to that same notification. However, is there a way to simply initiate a conversation that will hit their hangouts app. another more clean and simple way using just my Gear S ?

I just bought one and would love this feature. Handouts handles all my texts and my Google voice number is my primary number.
No Hangout app for Gear, so.....
You will need Hangout app on the watch. Since Hangout is from Google and Tizen is a competitor to Android OS, there is no way in hell that Google will produce anything for this OS.
I want buy the gear s. But I don't know if is possible used skype and whatsapp to answer the messages .... and for the calls? The gear s can answer the calls like a hands-free. ? Answer messages and messages from skype and whatsapp ( with keyboard. , not with voice) and calls is possible with this watch or with other smartwatch?
no smartwatch out there can do this (except for the windows one maybe for skype). Skype and WhatsApp are proprietary and therefore closed when it comes to those services.
Anything else that makes calls through android API like notifications, Gear S can handle somewhat but that's about it.

Have to disagree. Both have Android Ware watch apps on AW watches. But Gear S is a dead end. No one is interested to develop apps for it or Tizen in general.

wait a second. those aren't full apps for AW. They are using the AW sdk and apis to allow you to respond to messages / accept calls.
I have an AW watch and its definitely not a full fledged app. The skype one just lets you answer messages, but beyond that taking calls doesn't apply to AW really so I guess you can see it as an app but honestly, its not.
There are at least apps. Features can come later.
Would anyone be interested in the BBM app for Gear S if I was to get it developed and possibly sell it in the gear apps store. Please reply if you are interested. If I get enough interest I will possibly offer it for free.
bbm is dead. If you managed to get a WhatsApp client running would be a completely different story.
That and skype would be on fire.

How much would you pay for whatsapp? However you hardly need whatsapp anyway as with notification for gear s app you don't need whatsapp as the notifications app allows you to respond to whatsapp messages and start new messages/conversations

It's not really a good supplement for real WhatsApp app.
If you were able to do something that could playback voice messages, take calls and send voice messages it would seriously rock.
I'd easily pay 5 bucks for it

Thanks for your response. If I get enough interest I will look closer at getting whatsapp developed as well.

Hey does anyone use whatsapp on android wear? Just wondering if it is full app with full capabilities and if you would recommend it and if it isn't, would you prefer the same as what's on android wear or would you rather we worked straight from the original android app? LMK your thoughts on this

I don't know what changes were made since a few months ago to WhatsApp but I've used it - like 2 months ago and it was no different than the integration we have at the moment on the Gear S.

Thanks for your input
If you made something similar that could let you for example use your watch as a Bluetooth playback device and microphone, kind of how calls are taken on the Gear S, it would be just as good. That would work with Skype, WhatsApp or any other call/voice/sound based service - allowing you to take, make and receive calls on the device.
Then all you'd need to do is integrate that with messages and you'd have gold.
Worth real money for something like that.

What apps does it specifically support? Or does it work for "anything" ?
And why in the world is it 31M?

Currently, it supports SMS, email and Hangouts.
The app has several dictionaries used for predicting next words, hence the size.

But what SMS and Email? Does it work with "any" of them? Does it have to be the default SMS app? Like, will it work with K-9 email?
Thanks!

It works with any SMS apps that you have and Drextee doesn't have to be the default SMS app.
The email works best when you are using Gmail or Inbox apps on your phone, but many users are using Drextee with other email apps. It should work with K-9 too.
If you face any issues, please let us know, we look into it.
Thanks for the awesome app. I'll be putting it to the test tomorrow once my LG G Watch arrives. Cheers!
Version 2.2.1 is available now! It now supports Facebook Messenger, Telegram, Viber and whatsApp.
Version 2.4 is out! Now you can change the way Drextee looks on your watch.
