3G or No 3G

A coworker of mine just bought an Xperia X10a and is off the Germany for work she sent me a txt asking me to get her the unlock code and also to tell her if it will work in 3G while in Germany.. from what I can tell from the specs I think so.. but I thought best to ask the experts here. I know there is a X10a and a X10i I need to know if her X10a will get her 3G in Germany before I get the unlock code.
*edit* code is 6.00 is it would not be a total loss if it did not work..
thanks
So no one knows? or was it a silly q?
I don't know what services are available in Germany or what firmware you are putting on, but if it is available, it should still work. Debranding and unlocking don't take away the capability as long as it was available in that firmware and service is available in your area.

thank you.. I was hoping to hear that! I know my k850i was able to get 3g in Germany Italy and France.. so I was hoping her xperia x10 would be fine.
You need to have carrier frequencies to use the 3G. has nothing to do with the firmware but only the hardware.
10a are on 850/1900 and 10i on 900/1700/2100

That's right, 3G on the X10a won't work in Europe, or most of the rest of the world.
A little rant: Why do the US insist on always changing something instead of using the international standard? I can see no advantage in that to either their citizens or foreign travelers that visit the US. Just to mention a few: only 3 countries in the world don't use the metric system (US, Liberia and Myanmar), the cellphone bands are standard pretty much everywhere else, most countries have 220v energy (though the plugs vary in format you don't need a transformer). It's a bit like the English driving on the left side. It benefits no one.

Yes, it will on 2100. Very few countries in Europe and Asia have the 900 or 1700 3G bands and definitely not exclusively, they all have 2100 3G.

The other thing your friend will need to check is that they have international data roaming available and also a LARGE bank account lol
She has my vodafone sim so roaming is not a problem. She is at a spa for the weekend so I can not report back but AFAIK it should be fine. I think she may want it debranded so i am thinking to debrand mine and just ship it to her as she will be there for a while. yeah I am good like that! So the consensus is it will work just fine?!

[Q] German i9300 with China Telecom

Hello together,
I have a S3 from German Telekom. It's unlocked and not yet rooted.
Now I am in China and bought a Prepaid Card with 5GB of Traffic from China Telecom.
It connects to the network, coverage is very well, but only Edge.
When I select "Only WCDMA", it shows full coverage, but doesn't connect. I can't even start a call.
I found out, that non-China Telecom phones cannot connect to the network (only 2G).
Also China Telecom phones may not connect to other networks.
So now I guess if i root my phone, and install a china telecom baseband, it will work? Or does it have a different radio?
I'd really be happy to get answers. I can buy a card from china unicom, it's not a matter of the money. But it's the technical fun
Thanks in advance,
David.
There's nothing that changing the baseband will do. The issue is the carrier / sim.
Using another carrier or asking the current one to allow your phone is all you can do.
By the way, you posted this in the wrong section
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Somehow, that's not logical for me (I paid, the sim is brandnew). Why should they lock me out?
So I will try a chinese phone with my card, or my phone with another China Telecom Card, that works with 3G.
Thanks for your reply. What would the correct section be?
Thanks,
David.

Thank you.
I wanted to switch to China Unicom, which works with Europe mobile phones. But it's much more expensive and i don't need 3G.
As i have to send my handset for repair, I don't want to risk warranty for 3g.

Hello,
I thought about modifying for China Telecom.
I know bought a sim card from China Unicom which allows to get up to 2.5 gb and only pay what I need, starting with 10 RMB for 70RMB to 100 for 2.5GB, which is really nice for me.
I can also use HSDPA now and reach up to 900 kbyte/s.
David.
Just so you know, only China Unicom really offers 3G. China Mobile 3G is only for their branded phones and China Telecom markets 3G that is not really 3G. I use China Mobile, but if I needed 3G I would switch to Unicom.

carrier aggregation issue on xiaomi phones

hey everyone, I'd like to open a discussion about getting carrier aggregations on our phones, as you already know many of us can't get this feature that's already been implemented on our carriers in many countries or in some countries one carrier does and one doesn't. it's called LTA-A, LTE plus. 4G Plus network
I saw a post on reddit and I quote :
"TIL : Redmi Note 3 Pro (Kenzo) doesn't support Inter-band CA
Recently, I just bought a carrier aggregation enabled operator's SIM card (Digi) to try out this phone's CA aka LTE-A aka 4G+. For your information, I live in Malaysia and you could look up for this operator in this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks_in_Asia. To my surprise, there's no 4G+ icon show up so I'd decided to look up for more info on Chinese MIUI regarding this. Users that are able to access 4G+ are all China Mobile users and China Telecom users are not able to. China Mobile had intra-band CA and China Telecom had inter-band CA and hence I came with a conclusion, this phone doesn't support Inter-band CA."
which makes sense to me, as the carrier in my country which is Iran uses Inter-Band CA and won't work on my phone which is kenzo(rn3).also none of the xiaomi phones work either (entry level to flagship ones)
so, does anyone have the knowledge to tell me and the others that is it possible to change Intra-Band CA to Inter-Band CA? or is it the hardware that should be changed in order to work?
note : LTE bands aren't the issue here, both carrier and phones support them.
@TheStrix @flar2 @franciscofranco @MEGAX91 @billchen1977 @dadi11 @psndna88 @xyyx (please don't mind the order)
any suggestions regarding this issue?
@MEGAX91 I believe you were successful on your device(kate). is there a complete guide for everyone that could follow?
I'm desperately looking for a reasonable solution

LG H930DS - is it possible to change region?

I have bought a H930DS in Denmark. It's parallel import.... from Hong Kong i think.
There is no officiel Europe or Nordic firmware on the LG firmware site for this model.
Is it possible to change region any way?
Right now i don't get VoltE og WiFi calling even though i know my provider supports it.

Yes, you can flash India DS firmware over Hong Kong DS firmware. At least in India, it let those users get VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling by changing the region of their H930DS:

Okay.. I bring good news! You can definitely flash any KDZ as long as the model number is exactly the same. I flashed the HK Reginal kdz on my H930DS from India and I now have working VoLTE and VoWiFi.
In short, get the CORRECT kdz of the desired region for your model number, use LGUP, Upgrade option, and let it do its thing. Simple. This keeps the device official and under warranty.
PS - Please backup all data before doing this. Even though it is just an upgrade, play it safe. Just in case!

If you're still within 14 day return period I suggest you do that and get the H930 version.
Here you can get it for 598 EUR (including shipping to Denmark) which is ~4500 DKK so 25% cheaper than you can get it locally.
Warranty?

Hi,
I am planning to get a V30+ H930DS via import from HK to India. I am concerned about the warranty cover. If in case my device misbehaves or I drop it and break the glass build, then will LG India (from my home country) cover it under warranty or will I need to get it serviced from LG HK?

I would guess Hong Kong, just to dissuade you from doing that. If you live in India, they probably want you to buy Indian variant.
Is the H930DS a lot less expensive in Hong Kong than India? I know the regular V30+ was very underpriced at launch in India.

I came across an offer at www.mobizkart.com where the cost of H930DS is roughly 25k INR whereas in India it is 45k INR. Quite tempted. But my concern is the warranty. Also, the device comes with B&O headphones as well. Unsure of what should I do.

Tried it now, but unfortunately it does not result in working VoltE in Denmark. I guess the regional firmware versions contain specific carrier information needed to get VoltE in the region.
Not sure about Denmark, sorry, but in France and in UK (if I believe some british contributors), even if your smartphone (that's not LG related) and firmware supports VoltE, you won't get VoltE.
It will only work with a compatible device with your specific carrier firmware/software... Those versions are only sold by carriers, of course. Not sure it's the case in Denmark, though...

I can't vouch for anything with the G6, you'll have to take that risk. I was answering for the H930DS vs H930 for just one SIM. Many people don't even use the 2nd SIM card anyway and the first one works fine on H930.
For those that need both SIM cards, they can flash the newer Hong Kong H930DS Oreo KDZ.
Flashing out of region KDZ may prevent VoLTE from working. India users in particular seem to have that problem. Most people don't NEED VoLTE (on GSM/HSPA/LTE carriers) but Jio carrier in India is different. All they have are LTE bands.
