S9 Plus Model G965F UK version - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Hi,
Getting ready to pull the trigger on this phone from Clove UK.
Just one question, will I get full LTE speeds on TMobile service???
Does it support all the US bands? Can't find that info anywhere.
Any gurus here have the answer?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Ken

I have the Korean Variant G965N on the T-Mobile, you can follow my thread for my experience and usage as I test it on the network.

Both links are strangely wrong. Thanks ahead of time for fixing them.

All I've heard is that it is missing 1 T-Mobile band, but I don't know which one.

To answer your question the SGS II only works on Edge and not 3g for T-mobile.

Works fine on 3g for me!
I am also using T-Mobile with 3G (or Orange T-Mobile as it is now called in the UK).
I assume the guys that can't get it working are in the States?

Me too..
No problems here
the thread starter needs to title his thread "tmobile USA" because obviously this phone does not work with tmobile usa 3g. of course tmobile in europe will work fine.
Should have written my answer with more detail :/ The SGS II works for Orange in the UK but with T-mobile US it only works on Edge.

Hello. I have a GSII from UK, on T-Mobile. Tried to work with a guy at T-Mobile to figure out how to get 3G (only Edge now). My unit is rooted. I would love (and would pay!) to get 3G working on my phone. Can you help out?

If your on T-Mobile US, you can never get anything but EDGE.
Thanks for quick reply...
...not to be a pest, but does the phone I got (UK GSII) just totally lack the hardware capability to do 3G, or is it a software/firmware issue that may some day have a solution?

The UK GS2 lacks the current bands to run on T-mobile US network, since they use different bands compared to T-Mobile UK. If you want 3g/4g, you have to wait for T-mobile to release their variant in the states or otherwise change to AT&T.

Hey BostonBob... you might what to take a look at this thread. It explains the situation in a little more detail: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16356271
Short answer... it appears one-half (the upload half) of the TMobile USA 3G signal is at the wrong frequency (meaning this phone won't support it.)
I looked around to see if there's a software hack to reprogram the frequency or a hardware thing. Best I can tell...
1) The SGS2 supports a VERY wide range of frequencies. The i9100 service manual shows it clearly supports service in the 1700 MHz range... but not specifically AWS (Advanced Wireless Service) that TMobile USA uses.
2) The service manual actually shows you how to go in and 'fine tune' the frequencies if you have superhuman soldering skills.
3) Bad news, even if you hit the right frequency, I'd assume the antenna firmware would have to be changed (well outside of my area of expertise.)
I keep hoping that someone with some knowledge of programming one of these antennas will chime it, but no luck yet.
Now that TMobile USA is releasing their bastardized version of the SGS2, maybe we'll get lucky and the telephony portion of the hardware will be interchangeable (though I highly doubt it.)
If it's any consolation, I'm in the same boat.

UK phone in US - 3G does not work.

I just purchased a SG SII here in the US and later found out it is a UK phone (the sales rep said it was a US model)
anyway, the phone works great EXCEPT it will not log onto T-Mobiles 3G network. All I get is EDGE which is terrible.
How can I get it to go to 3G?
Spoke with T-Mobile, even got a new sim card. No help
Spoke wth Samsung US - they tried, could not help and then said to contact the UK.
Called Samsung UK and they said it should work, if not, bring it back as it is broken!
anyway, is there some sort of settings that I can change to make it work in the US.
I also need it to work in Brazil as I will be going there and will be using the Brazilian Tim network and installing their sim card.
thank you for your assistance in advance.
The phone is suppose to be:
HSPA+ 21Mbps/ HSUPA 5.76Mbps
EDGE/ GPRS Class 12
Quad band GSM 850/900/1800/1900
Quad band UMTS 850/900/1900/2100
Did you limit the phone to only work with 2G in the settings?
Check Wireless Network settings.
Much more better would be goto Settings->About phone, tell us what Baseband, and Kernel, and ROM version you are using.
Reboot phone.

Exactly, that phone will never work on T-Mobile USA 3G network, refund it or switch to AT&T. Makes you wish someone would regulate mobile networks here.
Edit: SGS2 should work fine on TIM Brazil.
you guys are absolutely certain that this phone will not work on T-Mobile?
what about certainty that it will work on Tim? I live in Brazil and defintely need it to work there.
Here, in the US, when I return next year, I can alway switch over to AT+T.
I need to be certain because if I get to brazil and it does not work, I am screwed because then it is almost impossible to get anything done to it.
BTW- they have been saying that t-mobile will have this same phone in a few months. How will that one be able to work? will it be possible to flash that info to this phone when it comes out?
thanks

The US T-mobile Variant is completely different from the UK model, won't be the same. Also it's true you can never get 3G with T-Mobile, don't know anything about TIM though.
T-Mobile uses the 1700 AWS band which this phone does not use so yes... You will NEVER get 3g or HSPA+ with T-Mobile U.S.

so when you say fine, the phone, 3g to get to the internet, etc etc will all work?
as it is here, the phone works great and when with wi-fi, the internet is great but EDGE sucks ass.
So, as I already know that I am beating the dead horse. 3G here with T-Mobile is never going to happen but it will work with AT+T, in Brazil, the phone for calls will work fine, 3G will also work fine too.
does anyone know about claro, vivo or oi in brazil? just wondering....
and what about other carriers in the US, will it work with anyone beside AT+T?
thanks again. this has been very useful!
EDGE runs on GPRS. Your phone matches TIM's UMTS frequencies so it will have 3G data on that network.

I do not get that, some sort of inside joke?
Why would you buy a phone without checking on what radio bands it works , its not like US has only one provider they all have different bands/frequencies.

as I said in my first post, I was told it was a US version phone. HENCE, I figured it would work in the US.
I buy unlocked phones as I am in Brazil 9 months a year and Cali 3 months a year so I can not be under contract.
but thanks for the help on this.

so if I have been schooled properly. T-Mobile uses 1700 and 2100, so without the 1700 band, it wont work!
I guess I got to talk with AT+T
will any other carrier in the US support this?????
thanks again to all who have helped....

And it does work in US ON AT&T. T-Mobile is only a minor carrier.
So it is your fault.

it seems that only T-Mobile and a few Canadian carriers (and cincinati bell) use the 1700 network! I wonder why?
they need to join the rest of the world and get on board with 2100!

[Q] T-Mobile USA - 4G

This link is telling me T-Mobile USA is on its way to get its own Galaxy SII 4G.
Once launched in the States, late this fall, Will the UK version "capture" the 3G/4G signal/band?

No, the T-Mobile version will have a different hardware radio that supports their frequencies. This is no way and there never will be a way to use the I9100 on T-Mobile US 3G.

Look up the current Galaxy S II on samsung.com and it will not list the 1700mhz umts band. This band is what T-Mobile US uses for 3G.
Or you can try searching the xda forums for the numerous other threads explaining this.....

Will Bell's version i9100M work with WIND?

Just curious
Wind uses the AWS band for 3G and HSPA data transfer, this is the same band that is used by T-Mobile USA, the GT-I9100M (Bell's SGS2) doesn't support these bands so your data will be limited to 2G speed, it will however work properly as a phone. If you want faster data speeds you will need to get your hands on a T-Mobile USA version of the SGS2.
Ah okay. That's disappointing to know.
But thanks for the detailed reply.

Hi, sorry to jump into this thread, but I am in the same position and I would like to know how did this work for you if you went ahead with this phone into Wind service.
I started a thread and some body there told me maybe better to ask in these two threads... my problem is explained here:

US version LTE bands

Hi,
I would like to buy this device which has become unavailable in Europe. So I should get an unlocked US version (AT&T, Verizon, T-mobile), I just have no idea what LTE bands they have, nor how it works for updates for these variants.
Thanks to anyone who wants to help this noob

Check out this link:. https://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=6216
I would imagine your would get updates on the schedule of the service provider that it originally was sold from. Updates from providers are usually behind factory unlocked versions. I would see if I could find one that was an international unlocked version.

It doesn't look like LG released an international model of the phone. I found a few on eBay that started they were unlocked and would work internationally though.

Yes, in fact he did not release them, unfortunately. They are all connected to some telephone operator ... However, the Canadian model has almost all global bands, which (it seems) the US models do not have.
