LG V10 Battery Life - Verizon LG V10

How is the battery life on everyone's LG V10 VS990? I've got two batteries, a 3000mAH and a 3800mAH battery, but I find the battery life seems poor on either battery, both only lasting about 6-8 hours, sometimes a bit longer if I'm not using my phone a lot that day. Is this just me or everyone? I know a friend of mine with the T-Mobile variant of the V10 gets almost two days of battery life, but I'm not sure how heavy of a user he is.

A non power user can make a battery last forever on this thing. Weekends, I am not tethering or running Pandora, or getting blown up with group texts, so I can unplug at 8 am, and plug it in at 11pm with 30% or more. Week days, with all those things going on I can just get through the workday from 7:30am to 8pm or so and have to plug it in asap.

See, I unplug at 7:30am and can only get to about 3pm before I need to swap batteries if I'm not careful about how much I use my phone. Though I do a lot with my phone, it doesn't sound like as much as you do. I've checked the battery usage and it always says the Screen and Android System are using the most battery, which seems to be normal on most phones, so I know it's not a particular app. These two batteries are also only about a month old.

Don't know, I got mine at release, I do have two batteries, but only carry one unless I travel out of town. I often click to close all apps often throughout the day and use Wifi whenever possible and whenever not tethering to my iPad.

After root, I get roughly 2 days on a full charge. Greenify and freezing apps has increased battery life dramatically

Nothing out of the ordinary actually. Using Tasker has helped the most, and freezing Amazon when my wife doesn't want to go shopping on my phone lol. Also, switching monitoring apps (I know, not really necessary) from Lookout to ESET.

I'm using greenify, amplify frozen apps and I'm still barely getting 2hrs sot.

Yea there are no rogue apps or anything like that, my phone just doesn't get good battery life. Maybe it will get better if we get a custom Rom.

I haven't tried another charger I'll give that a go.

Verizon location services app eats battery at a crazy rate even when the phone is asleep. Now when phone is sleeping it eats about 1% per hour instead of the nearly 10% it was eating. The stock battery is small to. 2800MaH for a phone this size is not a lot. GPS also eats battery. If you have location on try turning it off. Also if you live on the edge of a cell zone and your phone has to constantly keep talking to the tower it can use a lot of battery. You can test this by putting your phone into airplane mode, if your battery suddenly gets better... then the cell radio is killing you... unfortunately not much you can do for that.

I haven't been using the second battery yet, keeping it around as a replacement because we know what happens after the first year of using them.

Apps like that only increase standby battery life. Everything else is very minimal.
And I'm not happy with the battery life either. My phone is plugged in right now and the battery is actually going down as I use it.

I pull mine off the charger at 7:00 and at 3pm or so it's down to 85%, I'll put it on the charger at work until I leave around 5-6pm (mainly because I'm used to having to do this on my previous phone) and at night if I'm not using it constantly it's around 70-75% when I plug it in at bed time.
I suspect anyone getting that bad of battery life must be using it constantly, ie: Playing games, browsing, trolling facebook, etc.. Even in the "new toy" stage I'm getting great battery life.
FYI I don't have LTE, but do generally have good 4G.
You honestly can't use any phone on GPS without external power and expect that you're not going to discharge quickly. Assuming that you are running a car charger during GPS and just didn't say so, search the i-717 threads, since the topic has been well vetted on what chargers are more effective, etc. There are definite differences.

The fact that there are people out there that get really good battery life means the problem is you and not the phone. If you refresh facebook every minute of course your battery life will be crappy. apps like juicedefender are just marketing crap. as long as there are no running apps in the background that eat your battery, you do not need any juicedefender or tasker. also setting screen-off behavior to conservative on set cpu helps improve battery life.
When I first got my i717 and was using it on the stock rom I had pretty terrible battery life. I take it off the charger at 5:00am and had decent battery life (around 5 to 7 hours without GPS) but I use my phone a lot for internet/email. I think your battery life is completely normal given your usage.
Most people get about 5hrs screen on time. Total on battery ranges up to about 24hrs, but only if the screen is off at least 19 of them.

5 hours of screen time AND 19hours standby sounds incredible

I had GPS running on my phone for 4 hours today, had blue tooth on half the time without knowing it, sending text messages, making two 5 min phone calls, checking maps, checking FML and reading a book for about an hour and drained down to about 70% and I have the brightness set at auto. I would exchange it for a new battery.
On average with several texts per hour, several 5-10 min phone calls, taking a few pics and uploading them to picasa, checking facebook, updating status and checking emails I can pull off the charger at 630am and still have 50% battery (at least) by 630pm.
I do have the juicedefender (which isn't crap, it turns off signal after so long so you aren't trolling for signals when you aren't on the phone).

I had a ss of my buddies yesterday, but can't restore mms lol. There are plenty of other ss in the note section. He was at 22+ hrs with about 4:30 of screen on and some % remaining. I have to charge around 7-9 everynight at 4-4:30 hrs screen on, but my use is pretty heavy. I sync 4 gmail accounts, a separate GV, 3 calendars, and several apps.
If yours is much worse than that, you likely have a few troublesome apps or are playing games. First, after a full charge, reset cpuspy timers, lock it, and set it down for a few hours (I know, impossible). Then check to see that your CPU has been in deep sleep about 95% of the time. If not, use better battery stats to see what has been request wakelocks. Not only the most total time, but the total number. Any app that looks outrageous, freeze it or uninstall it. For system processes that look troublesome, Google. You can often find simple tricks online that will tell you what's causing them to go crazy. Beyond that, turn off syncing of anything that isn't needed or doesn't matter (like Facebook), and uninstall stuff you never use.
Another slight help is the brightness widget (don't use the actual widget, just put the app on your homescreen, it works the same) or dimmer in market as they can both set the brightness to a value of 10 (Samsung lowest stock is 20), and even if you can't tell the difference, it helps. Jkay settings in saurom can set the auto brightness profile slightly darker than stock. Umm, and the obvious, use less Widgets, longer sync intervals, processor scaling and speed profiles, and buy a couple rapid chargers, wall and auto.
A couple things to note after seeing a few of these posts...
BT can be on, but without it searching, connected, or listening it's not active.
GPS isn't active unless its in use aand you see the icon in the notification bar. That being said, fb, websites, and many other apps that request location will activate it.

YOU MUST CALIBERATE THE BATTERY!! I have no issues I use my phone heavy all day and get 15 hours and I still have 20% left. All you have to do is
1) Charge you phone until it says "charged"
2)Leave phone plugged in and power off and let it charge until the battery meter literally says "100" (screen will sleep so you can check with volume rocker to light screen)
3) power on phone and let boot and than power off and wait till you see 100% again
4) now keep doin this and you will notice it will start displaying "100%" faster and faster usually takes 6-7 times cycling like this
5) After you do this download Battery Caliberation (root required) app from market and hit the caliberate button and boom your good to go
I do this on every android phone I own when I flash a new rom or purchase a fresh one. Everyone should do this everytime you flash a new rom and I can CONFIRM significant battery longevity on all my android phones I have done this with
You only have to do it once so just get it out the way and you'll get through a whole dayand have some juice to play with.
I get 15+ hours and do not any battery juice defender apps

Just to be clear here, Tasker has nothing to do with battery life. It doesn't hurt it, nor "help" it. However, you certainly could write tasks/contexts that would decrease battery life, and there are a few scripts out there which do silly stuff like autokilling, etc... But if we're talking "battery savings", Tasker and JD do not go in the same category.
IMO JD is only useful if you're frequently in an area with no signal, like you work in a basement or deep inside of a solidly constructed building. Since you mentioned Tasker, in this context it does help me a bit on battery because my wifi turns off when I leave the house, but that's also something JD can help with. If you don't have a wifi connection it'll turn off wifi (and I believe turn it back on periodically to see if there's one available?) I don't use JD, so can't speak too much for it.

Hour? Hour and a half? I'm working during that period. I usually hit news sites and G+ when I'm first at my desk in the morning, so that's 30 minutes or so off and on looking at it, then perhaps an hour over the rest of the day, sometimes more at lunch.

45 minutes battery life

My Galaxy S II (and pretty much any Android evice I've picked up) has a usable battery life of 45 minutes. I unplug the phone at 9 A.M. in the morning after charging it to 100%. By 12 in the afternoon I would have browsed the Internet, checked social apps and played a few rounds of a game for what feels like 45 minutes in total. By then the battery is at 30% and I have to put it away in fear of it dying before I get home. The phone is useless for the rest of the day. My iPhone 4 with its 3 year old battery lasts 2 days like this.
No wakelocks, 99% deep sleep. I have a 3200mAh battery which feels like it lasts 1.5 hours before I have to put it away in fear. Basically the phone is not usable at all due to the user being in constant fear of the battery dying.
If I don't use the phone at all it's down to 20% by the end of the day with no wakelocks and 99% deep sleep. If I don't use my iPhone 4 with its 3 year old battery, it still lasts 20 days.

Yes I use BBS and have completely disabled all bloatware using Autostarts. I have the original battery and the Mugen Power 3200mAh battery. The battery life is proportional to with the capacity of the batteries I've used.
The primary use of my phone is mobile gaming. I don't care about the phone part except for receiving push notifications for email, IMs etc. which I then reply to on the PC anyway.
My SG2 and pretty much every Android device I pick up has 45 minutes of battery... Either you have won the lottery and got a defect phone several times or there is something fishy going on..
My sg3 lasted for 24 hours, my s4 last for a couple of days, my motorola razr lasted a week and my iphone 4 went for a day and sometimes 24 hours..
Even if I stress test my sg4 and s3 all the time it would last for a lot loooonger than 45 minutes..
I know the games will use a lot of juice but 45 minutes? Something is wrong...
What kind of games are we talking about? I do not play so much myself, just online poker, some tetris and so on, my iphone and android phones is pretty similar when talking about these games...
You could go for a Nintendo Game Boy etc
That said I taught ICS used less battery than JB. And it's pretty weird if you have the mugen battery. My Razer had a 3300 battery and that would go for days, even with heavy usage.

I've extensively used the Galaxy S, Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, Nexus One, Nexus S. All of them can be used heavily (3G, gaming) for just 45-60 minutes before the battery is low and you have to save it for the rest of the day.
Simply listening to music for 2 hours in the gym drains 35% battery! WTF? This is without any equaliser and while using an external headphone amplifier. I could listen to music for 2-3 hours a day for 1 week on my old iPod touch before needing to charge it.

Possibly a crap battery, but im going to suggest you don't use the samsung charger. The phone holds a wakelock whilst charging, keeping the phone running at 200Mhz, so unless you are delivering 650mA, your phone will die. Therefore I suggest you are using an unofficial charger, which doesn't deliver the needed 650mA, or you have an unofficial battery which wont accept 650mA. Either way, if you're not using Samsung appliances you shouldn't really be complaining about crap battery.

I am using the original Samsung charger and the original Samsung battery. I have an additional 3200mAh Mugen Power battery.
It drains faster than the charge rate only if I'm playing games.
Could be many things then, but as you say BBS doesnt report wakelocks, it would all just be conjecture. Try and pull a logcat after an hour or so of deepsleep and see if you notice anything untoward. Also, have you done simple things like turn WiFi off when you're not using it? That scans every 15 seconds or something. Or if you're in a crap phone signal area, your phone will keep scanning for and trying to connect to a better signal.

It's the phone obviously. Like I said if I put it in Aeroplane mode than the battery is still at 99% at the end of the day. If it's in normal mode it drains severely. I don't have this problem on any other phone. I've flashed the latest modem for my region and tried older modems for my region as well.
Not sure but it sounds like you have technical issues with your phone.
I have the official Samsung uprated battery and I loose about 60% out of the phone battery a day with heavy usage. Usually doesn't get to that point as I charge at work or home when not in use.
I take it as a given that all smart phones, tablets or laptops have ****e battery life.
Blanket generalisations about specific OS' or brands being superior to others is just silliness.
Saying that, when it comes to battery life, my HP Touchpad running CM 10.1 pisses all over any iOS device and the ghost of Steve Jobs agrees with me!

60% at the end of the day is a joke. It's unacceptable. Without use My iPhone 4 is at 95% at the end of the day with everything switched on and every possible syncing enabled. Why is it so hard for Samsung to produce a properly working phone after 5 years? I am 100% sure their latest phones like the Galaxy S 4 behave exactly the same way no matter what PR bull**** they try to spin.

Seems the iPhone is the device meant for you, for me in normal usage it lasts 2 and a half days altogether with the stock battery, heavy usage like a gameplay of Gamelofts Modern Combat series or N.O.V.A gives me 3 hours of continuous play after which the battery reaches around 7-10%, wifi in JB sadly kills my battery only gets around 6 hour's with continuous usage which was greater in my GB and ICS days.
But 95% at the end of the day for the iPhone 4 with everything ON is a bit of an exaggeration(the hell kind of unremovable battery is that?) don't you think?

Everything on with no use. Thats the drain in standby. My SGS2 drains whether I use it or not with everything on. In aeroplane mode, it stays at 99% without use.

[Q] Is it me or does this battery suck....

After it passes the 50% threshold...or do I have a bad battery. I'll have 3 hours screen on time at 50%. But barely make it to 5 hours screen on time. Was the same way on my s3. Got 2 hours of screen on through the first 50%, barely got 3 hours screen on the last 50%. Noticing the same on this battery. Either the way the phone reads the battery is incorrect or the last half of the battery is messed up
I enjoy the battery very much but I see some people getting 7-8 hours screen on and I'm assuming it's because their batteries don't do what mine does

I got 5 hours screen on time out of mine with no wakelocks. However my coverage is never in the green it's always just moderate.

Never understood the big deal why people care so much about screen on time. As long as I can wake up at 4:30am and my phone last me the entire day, which includes texting, phone calls, web browsing, a few emails here and there, listening to some music.....and I can go to sleep at 10:30pm with about 30% battery left, sometimes more, I'm good. I have gone over 24hrs with regular to moderate use a few times. Battery is great in my opinion. I guess people have their own way of judging battery life...

I agree I'm just curious why my battery dies quickly after it hits 50% I ended up with 5 hours screen on time and about 14 hours off the charger which is good. I'm assuming if the bottom half of the battery didn't die off so quick then thus battery would be even better

I can easily get 20+ hours with 4-5 hrs screen time with auto brightness. With moderate usage, texting, games, browsing and YouTube.
its definitely something with your phone. i can run this phone with heavy use the whole day and be right around 45% before bed. people talking about extended batteries im like huh?

It's all in how you use your phone. Be smart with your brightness, sync settings and charge cycles and you should't have any issues at all. I got over 35 hours on my HTC One by using auto bright and doing light to moderate usage. Everyone will have different results. Also if you are rooted use "Greenify".
I work on 3rd shift (11pm-7am) and I charge my phone when I get home around 830, let it charge to 100% and unplug it before I fall asleep and I am good to go until the next morning.
Think your phone might be messed up.............

My battery is great because of the top 50% last a long time. But once I pass that it seems like it drains fairly quickly. My first note didn't do that. Plus when I unplug my phone, it drops to 98% within 10 minutes of no usage

Try watching your phone and unplugging at 99%. Its probably dropping to 98% because when your phone reaches 100% it does a trickle charge where it drains a little then charge again. You might be removing it during that cycle.

Testing today and I'm at 90% after 3 hours and have an hour of screen time. Pretty amazing. yesterday I was at 40 minutes screen time. I also killed the battery off last night. I read it wasn't good, and I read that it was. So far so good. Will run it all day and see how the bottom 50% works today.

First day I had it while setting everything up, screen on, apps chugging away... After 6 hours it had only drained 40% from a full charge.
Second day, rooted. Playing with a huge variety of apps to find the right ones for me. 5-6 hours screen time, 5% from a 85% charge. I was however downloading a massive collection of large files over WiFi, that will use a chunk of battery.
Last night I adjusted all my settings to optimize power consumption and improve battery life, installed Greenify and hibernated apps that like to linger after closed. Removed all unnecessary apps and Stopped useless imbedded apps. Will report at the end of the day my results.
So far it seems that the battery life you get out of a stock battery is based on how you use your phone, what you use it for and how long you use it. Turn off any features you're not currently using, such as Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi or put the phone in Airplane Mode when you're not in service so it's not constantly searching for a signal.
I watched half of a 1080p movie with a Bluetooth stereo headset, basic functions running in the background and only dropped 10% (45mins). This AMOLED screen uses much less power than that of my previous phones, the CPU seems to process quickly and efficiently, I would have assumed a 1080p video would use more resources to decode.
Just charged my phone from 40%, I got 21 hrs out of it with 4 hrs screen time, music, texting and general browsing. I will post a screenshot tonight when I get low again.
Oh I also ran Antutu like 10 times showing friends.

Stock battery life is terrible

Wow, just got my G2 on Friday night, and yesterday I was sitting around the house on WiFi all day, playing with it, I got maybe 12 hours out of it, before it was down in the teens.
Last night I charged it fully, woke up, unplugged the phone 100% battery, now 2 hours later it's down to 89%, and all I did was surf XDA and some websites for maybe 20 minutes all on WiFi.
I need to root this thing, and install CleanROM, and debloat this beast, because with a 3,000mAh battery and Snapdragon 800, I expect way way better battery life.. I am looking for Note 2 battery life, that thing could go 36 hours without sneezing.
Is it the ton of bloatware on the phone from ATT + LG killing the battery ? I am shocked at how much bloat this phone has, it's over the top with bull**** apps I never want on here, pretty ridiculous.
If you had taken the 2 minutes it took for you to write up this rant and look for the battery thread you would have seen the G2 has amazing battery life. You are obviously doing something wrong.
Give it some time to settle before deciding anything. Mine actually took three-four days and some reboots before it calmed down, and now I have about twice the battery stamina compared to HTC One (which I threw in the dumpster btw) .
Could be hardware issues. I had my G2 for a week now, and I tell you what the battery is amazing. I can easily get 4-5 hours of screen on time with 24+ hours battery life, and that's with stock. all sync (fb, whatsapp, twitter) with a few tweaks. I am coming from Nexus 4 and very impressed because with G2 I literally have a double battery life.
And also G2 is very fast charging. Only take 2 hours to charge from 10 - 100%. That's amazing!
My battery is getting better every day. Yesterday I got 14 hours of use, 5 1/2 hours screen on time, and an estimated 2 1/2 hours to go at 15%. Definitely the best so far. With more tweaks, I'm wondering how much I can get today.

I had some bad battery life initially. I found the biggest culprit of battery drain in my case was CarrierIQ. After rooting the phone and disabling the CIQ, my battery life has been great. It goes 24+ hours easily and it seems it can run 40+ hours though I haven't tried it.

same thing happened to me. First few days it was great then battery sucked. Disabled the CIQ with system tuner and I get 2 days and 5 hours screen time and still usually have 30% left
The battery life is love and hate on this phone for me. The love part is the battery life on this phone is great. The hate part is you have to turn off a lot of things to get that great battery life.
I've never had to turn this many things off to get good battery life on any other phones that I've had. I have to completely turn off anything location related which is a big bummer for me. I always like to have a clock/weather widget on my home screen but it never updates with all of the stuff that I have to turn off.
It's one of the few reasons why I'm moving to a Note 3. But when you heavily tweak the system, you can get fantastic battery life out of this phone. Good luck!

if you only turn off the google apps location settings and keep the app location settings on you should still see good battery. I use the stock weather clock widget and it updates just fine with those settings

[OFF TOPIC]
yet another topic's title that would detract would be buyers.
This phone has the best battery life of any phone I have ever had, stock. Even better than the Note series. Clearly user error
Battery life issues are so variable between two use scenarios it's like comparing apples and oranges. As others have said, battery life is pretty damn amazing for this phone.
Post some results from GSam battery monitor or wake lock detector to help you sort it all out.

I am still running stock, not rooted or ROM'd yet. Right now I am at 8h 29m total usage off a 100% charge this morning. Current battery life is already down to 35%, and only 2h 49m On Screen Time, and I have been on WiFi all day. I have GPS off, sync off, no e-mail or Facebook stuff installed yet.
Might as well give you a fast screen shot of mine
People with great battery life vs those with poor. Do you think its mainly settings and a good ROM or root with bloat deleted ?
Or is it hardware related ? Bad phones from factory shipping with damaged batteries or hardware ?
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
Battery so poor, I might return my G2 for a Galaxy S4 instead, for the removable battery.
Just shocked I'm barely getting any better battery life than my Nexus 4, which got 4h On Screen time, and over all only 12 hours usage
Do I have a bad phone ? Or just stock is screwed up and I should factory reset, or better yet, root and install CleanROM ?

Not happy with Battery

Hi have my phone five days now, and was super thrilled about the supposed battery life.
Well, not very happy so far, battery life seems to be worse than my HTC U11.
I have installed AccuBattery (Pro) and it tells me my Design capacity for the battery is 1000mah. This cannot be correct, so I changed it to 4200 mah.
It is telling me my battery health is 92%. What is going on, as I feel battery life is not that good. Do I have a faulty phone??
I agree
Sounds like it's faulty. The battery on mine is amazing. Lasts for ages and charges ridiculously quickly.

Post your battery status, use device id app to see if you have 4200mah.
You might have rogue app, try to clear cache via recovery.

Also go to settings, battery, battery usage, upload a screen shot
I added two files to show you what is you should be getting, please note, our usage is vastly different, so YMMV.

Official Huawei stores can change your battery for about 20USD. Just contact any of your local Huawei outlets.
I also use AccuBattety and it reports the battery at 92% too. My guess is that AccuBattety has a harder time estimating the charge properly because of the super fast charging. I've never tried with a slow charger to see if its reading would be any different.
That said, I usually get around 7-8h of on screen time.
Standby drain is usually decent though sometimes if it drains too quickly overnight, I looks at the battery stats in settings and usually find an app misbehaving. I like going in the battery details, software section and looking at the summary per hour to see which app consumes how much. Usually at night I'll only have 1-2 apps consuming like 1 mah per hour. But sometimes I find an app that might have crashed or something and consumes more.
I am pretty impressed I usually get around 7.5 hours with a fair use of Facebook which drains juice, but without using Facebook I can get 9.5 to 10.5 hour SOT.
I usually charge up and unplug before going to sleep, with wifi and location services on I lose at most 2% in 7 to 8 hour, with mobile data on I lose about 4 to 5 percent.
I am quite a heavy user, but Gsam battery says average of 9 hours SOT since measurements began a few weeks ago.
I'd like to see how long it would last on standby but I'd never get to do that ? unless I go to device Rehab.

I would say light use, 10 mins off Facebook at night. Charged it to 100 % last night and took it off charge before I went to sleep. Went from 100 to 88% over 9 hours while I was sleeping. Is that normal?

It's poor but that's because u have apps that draining the juice, even without mobile data or wifi on, Facebook is the first one.
Had same issue, today i lost 2% in 8 hours, which is very good.
Make sure before you go to sleep, to turn off your mobile data and any app that needs internet connection in the background, mainly facebook, insta and such...

20% left....

As it should be,I'm upset:crying:
Went back to the three shop today, explained all. Guy in shop took a couple of photos of the battery stats, and said he will call me back, I just want a new phone.
I had an HTC U11 previously, with all the same apps installed, and a lower capacity battery, and phone would last me all day with 45% or so at the end of the day. All settings the same.
I'm convinced it's a faulty battery. Proving it is difficult.
