Canadian Firmware on G925F? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys i really need help before i flash and do something wrong...
I have the Galaxy S6 Edge G925F running stock 6.0.1 but i cannot get LTE on it while using Koodo. My phone is unlocked.
I want to flash the Koodo 5.1.1 firmware on it, but I am not sure if that will brick my device.
Please help.
Thanks

bump...

Have you checked:
Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names (to see if an appropriate APN entry has been made for Telus (sorry I meant to say Koodo!), and also to the left of that entry, the radio button should be on)
and
Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode (to see if LTE option is available to you)?

I went to Access Point Names and i selected Koodo (that is the carrier i am using)
then i went to Network mode: i have the options:
LTE/3G/2G (auto connect)
3G/2G (auto connect)
2G Only
3G Only
LTE Only
When I choose LTE/3G/2G (auto connect) i get H+ or 4G i don't get LTE. But when i choose LTE Only, i get no signal at all (shows circle with cross where signal bars are)

4G/LTE are the same thing. Give it a few minutes to figure things out after inputting your APN.

Yeah, if you see the 4G icon on your signal bar, that may just be LTE, especially if sometimes you notice the H+ icon. Do a speed test and see what you get.

I ran a speed test 5 times while it was on 4G and i got the following results:
Test 1: D: 63.64 U: 25.08 Ping: 19
Test 2: D: 61.05 U: 25.34 Ping: 39
Test 3: D: 68.51 U: 26.17 Ping: 39
Test 4: D: 68.64 U: 25.02 Ping: 39
Test 5: D: 72.89 U: 26.35 Ping: 38
When I put my sim in my brothers Koodo S6 Edge it shows LTE+. I ran the speed test using the same app on his phone using my koodo sim card (same one i used to get the above speeds on the g925f). I got the following results:
Test 1: D: 71.37 U: 7.13 Ping: 39
Test 2: D: 57.55 U: 21.91 Ping: 63
Test 3: D: 69.89 U: 30.46 Ping: 67
Test 4: D: 58.71 U: 26.64 Ping: 67
Test 5: D: 66.03 U: 28.23 Ping: 78
I used the same servers for the speed test (Toronto, ON Telus) I guess my 4G is a bit faster than LTE+ ?
My brothers Koodo s6 edge is running 5.1.1 and my international s6 edge is running custom rom 6.0.1

Neat. Like @thatsupnow said above, 4G/LTE is the same thing. US-based phones may call it 4G. Up here, our units say LTE instead of 4G (we technically couldn't call it 4G any more, because we had called HSPA+ 4G before we got LTE... something like that.. someone correct me if I'm wrong here).
If you're still curious to flash the Koodo stock G925W8 (via Odin) to your phone, I don't think it would work. But I also don't think it would brick it. Keep a copy of an appropriate stock ROM handy (G925F-specific) that is of a similar version of Android. As I don't think these Samsung devices enjoy being down-graded (again someone correct me if I'm wrong but am currently experiencing that with my Canadian G925W8)

Problem with Orange Mobile Network (GPRS/3G etc...) with Villain5.5 Rom

Hi,
I rooted my HTC GSM Hero this morning from scratch and installed the Villain 5.5 Rom for the GSM Hero from the XDA thread titled "[ROM]04/05/10 - VillainROM 5.5: Release Version - for GSM HERO".
Everything that I can find works perfectly with one exception: I cannot access mobile data any more! I am aware that it could be the RUU (?) version has changed and is no longer compatible with Orange - can anyone tell me if this is true?
I am also aware that there is a fix for sending and receiving MMS messages, which is quite similar, but I thought that MMS was reliant on the general network connection working?
When I go to the APN list I only have an empty list.
I can make phone calls and send/receive SMS.
Further Info from Settings - About Phone
Network:
Operator Name = Orange
Mobile Network Type = UMTS - This looks like the problem?
Software:
Firmware Version = VillainROM5.5.0
Baseband Version = 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18
Kernel Version = 2.6.29-8d063048
Build Number = VillianROM 5.5.0
Software Version = 1.13.531.1
Do I install a radio ROM from the sticky, or will that overwrite the Villain5.5 ROM?
I apologise if this topic has been covered - I tried the search but am unsure of the correct terminology to look for!
follow this for the fix from the 5.5 post to get the apn list sorted..
Hotfix #1 - APN List fix. Flash over 5.5 (Should be available by OTA)
When you have flashed the apn fix you need to press "reset to default" in apns menu
http://villainrom.desean.net/ota/Villai ... signed.zip
ps: flash from the recovery menu, hold home key and turn phone on, choose zip and select the below file that you should of saved to the root of your memory card..
Thanks anarchyuk!
I feilt a bit stupid, but then realised that I wouldn't have known what to look for and it was 435 pages into the thread!
My problem is now resolved and I can access 3G networks, which is better than nothing, however the GPRS/H ones seem to not be working...
I will investigate that when I'm not in a 3G location though
Thank you very much
3g and the H are both the same signal, HSDPA that gives you the faster speeds is something added onto a node b/3g mast.
If the cell site you are logged on to has not been upgraded then it will only show 3g when downloading!
try another area and see how it does, I cant see the apn or internet settings doing much to stop it tbh
im having trouble with o2 payandgo mms in villain 5.5 if anyone can help?
I'm having a similar problem on T-mobile, I have flashed the apn fix and restored all the apns. I have G/H connection but no 3G.
Would really appreciate any help, thanks!

Ok, I don't have any knowledge of how mobile data works so thanks for that. But why am I now getting an H or G signal in areas where I would previously get 3G?
Does this make a difference to my download speeds?
Again, thank you very much for any enlightenment you can provide.

Some roms like the slide mytouch ports dont have a the H symbol but when you go into the settings, about phone and network. It shows you the type your are connected to. Other/Most roms show H to show high speed data.
Here are some possibilities.
1) If you have just come from a stock rom your provider may of had the symbol removed. You would of still been on the higher speed.
2) Your provider coincidently has added HSXPA to the area.
I would probably say at a guess that you have been on the faster speed all of the time and it has just been the symbol not showing!
HSDPA: currently dependent on network can deliver speeds of upto 7.2mbit
3g: on its own can deliver 384kb/s download
I would strongly suggest getting a widget from the market to turn 3g off when not on the internet as it will hammer your battery life.

Thanks for clearing that up, very helpful
But just to summarise- There is likely no difference between what I was getting before I switched to villain and what I get now, just that the symbol is different?

X10 Android 2.1 Upgraded but (Switch '3G' to 'H')

Hi Guyz,
I am from Quebec, Canada on Rogers Wireless.
I've updated this Afternoon. Okay cool but my 3G is a little laggy.
All Rogers internet setting is ok, all is working good but it's laggy with this switch, compare to 1.6..
What about you guyz? Laggy too ? Cool the H is now detected by our X10 but that lag suck.
I suppose the Rogers version of 2.1 will correct this.. or maybe in the next version..
I get both :s
sent from canadadadada in a igloo
I find that when I'm not on the net or using data it says 3G, but while data is being sent it says H
Sent while riding my polarbear
What is H ?
Because I saw it only one time, now I got 3G or E only...
H stands for a HSPA network
sent from my 2.1 X10i using xda app
For me its the same
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Well,
"E" is Edge, which is sort of "2.5G" (around 200kb/s, iirc).
And "H" means "HSPA" which stands for "High Speed Packet Access", HSPA is an improved version of the standard 3G (UMTS) connection and can offer speed of up to 11Mb/s on the X10.
Seems like it wasn't supported on 1.6
I thought it just didn't display the H. I always had H with my Touch Diamond. I have never seen an H on my X10!!!! Is there something wrong with my x10 or settings?
I'm getting the H too, and funny thing is that HSPA is not avaliable in Brazil yet.
Huh? Vodafone supports the H and I always had it. Anybody any idea what settings to check?
Yeah the H is a 3G+ ... But my problem here is not the letter but the irregular internet works
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
the H is 3G. some phones used to show the H symbol while uploading/downloading like the X1 XPERIA. HSPA+ is something else. right now as far as i know, the Rogers HSPA+ RocketSticks are the only devices using the HSPA+ 21Mbps speeds in Canada. The X10 is only HSPA which downloads up to 7.2Mbps. The "H" doesn't mean that you're downloading any faster (or slower) than before.
Hi, I have the same problem. Sometimes it says H, sometimes 3G.. I noticed than when it says 3g, internet doesn't work and when it changes to h it works
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I think we are hoping for a certified 2.1 update in canada yet :-S

I got that after the 2.1 install as well. Go to Settings and then click the first option, Sony Ericsson and then download settings. And remember, with 2.1(I think) 3G is disabled when wifi is turned on!
you need to manually input your devices APN settings since it is a nordic version of 2.1, it won't have the Rogers settings built-in, nor will it be able to download it from the network.
Go to Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names -> Press the Menu button -> Tap New APN -> and input the following settings:
Name: Rogers
APN: rogers-core-appl1.apn
MMSC: http://mms.gprs.rogers.com
MMS Proxy: 10.128.1.69
MMS Port: 80
and leave the rest of the settings alone.
Press the Menu button and tap Save.
Data should be working after this.
I had the same issue yesterday but today in the morning i just re flash my X10 with the Global World Firmware from the post named: "X10 Flash 2.1 Final + Global World Firmware" (Sorry i can´t attach the link, my account is new and it´s giving me an error) ...My Internet Connection from Claro Guatemala is working like a charm even though my X10 shows the H...
Thanks alot man, it works like a charm! Cheers!

Yeah as azian says right, this is the Rogers data setting.
But, I suggest all of you before updating 2.1 Nordic, do a backup of your system settings (With Restore and recovery program)

[Q] Vibrant i9000m 3g Connectivity Issue. List of what I have tried so far...

I am having a problem connecting to my 3G (HSDPA) with my Vibrant. My phone company is using 850 and 1900 (Bell Mobility). I have been at this problem for days now and am running out of places to look so I thought I would write down a list of what I have tried and see if anyone out there can suggest other things to check/fix. The first problem is that I am not sure when I lost my 3g as I was using WiFi as default in my home while rooting with the SuperOneClick. After rooting I installed the voodoo lagfix with a little bit of trouble so that may be where the problem lies. However, since then this is what I have done....
-Factory reset and wipe cache (didn't fix problem)
-Check APN Settings
APN - pda.bell.ca
Proxy - web.wireless.bell.ca
Port - 80
MMSC - h t t p : / / m m s . b e l l . c a / m m s / w a p e n c (spaced only because I cant post links yet)
MMS Port - 80
MCC 302
MNC 602
APN Type - Internet + mms
All others set to none or blank
-Check Flight Mode (disabled)
-Check Data Network Mode (on long power button press) (Enabled)
-Thought to try other roms, installed Darky's Ressurection 9.2, still no 3G
-Installed seeArms v0.4 with JL2 modem as that was what mine was stock. No 3g
-Entered *#0011* in Dialer to access Service mode

I dont know what other pertainent information would be needed but if your willing to help and need other info I will gladly look it up. Thanks in advance!
are you sure that you have a 3G coverage in your are?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I am sure. I live in an urban area and have had no problems with nexus one before the vibrant.
I actually resolved the problem. I went into the bell mobility store and they put in a new sim card and refreshed my data package and everything was fine. No idea why this happened but it's all good now.
Thanks for your interest in helping!
Did you ever have 3g on your vibrant?? If you are not on the tmo network you will not get 3g only edge. Just like you can't use an unlocked iphone on tmo with 3g. Just like any phone really. Except you can use tmo vibrant on ATT with 3g. But can't use the ATT captivate on tmo 3g.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I did have 3g for the first day I had my Vibrant until I started modding it. Like I mentioned though, 3g has been restored after a new SIM card and a refresh to my data package from Bell Mobility.
I will say though, that the 3g service I am getting is by far superior to what I had on my Nexus one with any radio I tried using. I am working in a very remote location in northern Alberta now and still get 3g
Now if only we had a stable and complete version of CM7!

How is the GSM/hsupa working overseas?

Hello guys,
From my previous experiments, these multi radio GSM phones just don't work as good as their GSM only variants. What is the situation for photon about this ?

Received a unit yesterday, I had ordered via eBay. Works perfectly on both 3G and HSDPA. No problems with either voice or data.
Since I haven't been able to activate the phone via Sprint:
1. It tries to connect to Sprint each time I boot it. I need to then make changes to network settings so that it can log on to the local GSM networks.
2. Each time I send a text message, it reminds me I might incur international roaming charges.
Rest is super.

Lumia 920 Rogers Version LTE

Hi,
I wanted to ask others their experience with Lumia 920 (Rogers version) with LTE Service.
I have LTE service with Telus in the area where I live. I get excellent LTE service with my Samsung Galaxy sIII.
The LTE service with the Lumia 920 does not seem as good, Galaxy always seem to have LTE, Lumia reverts back to 4G much of the time.
I have settings set to LTE
Questions:
Is there a better radio that could be flashed for the Lumia 920, Rogers uses Band 4 (AWS 1700) for their LTE the same as Telus?
Is there a setting in the phone is "tune" the radio to work better with Telus LTE service?
Is this something I need to "suck it up" since it is a unlocked phone?
I have a Rogers phone on TELUS. Indicator states 4G but I'm getting lte speeds going by speed tests.
Sent from my RM-820_nam_canada_200 using Board Express
Enable LTE on Telus
I also have the Rogers 920 on Telus... I've always had the 4G indicator when a data connection was established and a 3G indicator when it was idle. When correctly on LTE, the indicator will always be LTE (with or without an active data connection). Even though the speeds were fairly high, I was pretty sure it wasn't LTE but rather HSPA+.
Anyways, I can report that 4G isn't LTE; I'm now always getting LTE when in LTE-enabled zones (it goes back to 3G/4G when outside of the city or in a very low reception area zone). The only trick I found to getting it to work is the following (some steps may not be required but that's what I do and it always worked) following a hard-reset (soft-resets don't need this, LTE always enables itself for me):
Install the "access point" application
Go into the "access point" application in your settings
Add a new APN in "access point" (the fields I didn't specify is because I left them blank or kept the default value)
- Connection name: TELUS LTE (it can be what ever, that's just what I chose)
- Data type: LTE
[Internet APN]
- Access Point Name: sp.telus.com
[MMS APN]
- MMS Access Point Name: sp.telus.com
- Proxy address: 74.49.0.18
- Proxy port: 80
- MMSC address: http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mmsc
Go into "cellular" in your settings
Switch the "Highest connection speed" value to "3G"
Go back into the "access point" application
Activate the newly created "TELUS LTE" APN
Wait a minute or restart the phone (I think waiting a minute worked for me the last time I tried instead of a restart)
Go back into "celluar"
Switch the "Highest connection speed" value to "LTE"
Wait about a minute and LTE should kick in if you're in a LTE zone
Go back into the "access point" application
Activate the default "TELUS" APN that comes from the SIM card (this will re-enable tethering while supporting LTE)
Those steps appear to be the magic recipe that worked for me following two hard-resets... Like I said, it could be any combination of the above steps and not necessarily all them... Can't guaranty it'll also work for you but it's worth a try.
