I am writing from Phoenix OS installed in a separate parition in my Linux laptop. (I usually call it Linux Box.) Only a few days ago I found out about Remix OS. Since then, I had installed it in a USB stick, in separate partitions in a Windows Box and in 2 Linux boxes. In the mean time, I found Phoenix OS too. It has only an .exe file for installing to a PC, meaning you have to use a Windows box for that. I used that to install Phonix OS to a USB stick. Today, I was thinking I should try to install it to a separate partition in my Linux box. I installed it the same way as I wrote here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65943247&postcount=6 I haven't tried to install the Play Store yet. Only reporting that it is installed in an ext4 partition.
Have anyone else got Phoenix OS installed this way? I am thanking you guys for all the help I got from your posts here!
nice
I copied the Phoenix folder from the USB stick to the hard disk partition (sda6) and then unsquashed the system.sfs.
sudo unsquashfs system.sfs

and then copied the system.img from the squashfs-root to the Phoenix folder and deleted the squashfs-root folder and the system.sfs file. Then, created a menu entry in /etc/grub.d/40_custom.
menuentry 'Phoenix OS' --class android-x86 {
insmod part_msdos
set root='hd0,msdos6'
search --file --no-floppy --set=root /Phoenix/system.img
linux /Phoenix/kernel root=/dev/ram0 androidboot.hardware=Android_x86 androidboot.selinux=permissive CMDLINE
initrd /Phoenix/initrd.img
}
And, then did
sudo update-grub

,
rebooted and booted into Phoenix OS.
I didn't succeed in installing Google Play. Maybe, one of you would be able to.

Today, I reinstalled Phoenix OS in another partition afresh. And, once it initialized itself, I found Play Store, Play Store Fix, SuperSu, Terminal, Voice recorder already installed. There could be an OTA update is happening some way. The Terminal accepts su. I wish I knew the terminal comands. It would be nice, if you guys would try to install Phoenix OS, so we could discuss/help each other.

I've been searching everywhere in the Net, so I could've downloaded something like that, I'm not 100% sure.
Phoenix OS as only OS
I use Phoenix OS as my only OS on my Thinkpad T61p. I uninstalled Windows 10 and only have Phoenix now. I also tried Remix OS but I find that Phoenix is the better solution, it´s better organized and has a better compatibility with GApps and a 100% working Play Store.
Hello
You can download the apk of those websites in fact :
-Uptodown (only free apps)
-Apkpure (only free apps)
Have fun and give a "thanks" if it helped you
Sorry for my english (french)

Is it possible to install xposed on Remix OS?
Nope. Goes into bootloop.
I've copied all x86 xposed files to system, its booted, but show notif "xposed installed, but not active".
It's also prevent me from installing any app.

Does not matter. Even if you do copy it, it wont work.
You wanna try the better method? Here.
1) Press Alt+F1. You will activate the terminal. Main terminal, not terminal emulator or something like that.
2) type "cp -avR /sdcard/xposed_data /system"
3) This copies all the xposed data to the system, where it is supposed to be.
4) Reboot.
5) Praise Altman, as you get to witness the bootloop, as xposed is not supported.
On the other hand, if you use android 4.4 rc3 from the android x86 project website, you can install xposed using the echo and chmod commands.

Read my post above yours. Google or search this XDA forum. I am being lazy and not finding it for you.
Thanks I think
I do not mind doing some work to get exposed going so far I have tried modifying the system files using Ubuntu and And mounting the system image to no avail. The previous posts in this thread would suggest that it is not possible at the moment I do not believe it. Orion what I am asking is for you to point me to the correct information for accomplishing the task of installing xposed on remix os.

And I am saying search this forum.
its all about "Symbolic link" if we know witch files we should create for then that will be easy
More info
Along those lines how can I take a xposed zip made for x86 5.1 and arrange it in the system files of remix os keeping all file permissions and symbolic links the way they need to be and updating the binary if anyone knows of a script I could run in terminal from Ubuntu with the remix is file system mounted that would be great.

Do you think scripts come from the linux god? lol. If a method existed, and a manual method would have to exist in order for a script of the process to exist, someone would have posted it by now. Scripts are nothing more than automation of multiple manual steps. So please, unless a method has already been posted or you're willing to work out all of the proper steps, don't ask for a script that will do it for you. I too want xposed on remix, but am I willing to put in the time to attempt to get it working? No. Not right now at least. So I don't bother asking someone else to do it for me. This is XDA. Asking for OTAs and asking for something you could search for are both frowned upon here. Sorry if that seems harsh, but until you've at least attempted to develop something, don't just assume it's a walk in the park for others to do so. Especially with something as complex as xposed.
Thanks. Hope I didn't startle you.
systemless xposed might be the best route: patch ramdisk.img and create and mount /data/xposed.img

Do you have a copy of the xposed.img and ramdisk.img from Ax86; just want to take a look.
Remix OS 2.0.202 and latest 3.0 now support tincore keymapper perfectly, on Remix OS beta(2.0.201), tincore keymapper can run but there is a problem with the "touch focus" which only focus on the mouse pointer, not on the target keymapp, but in Remix OS version 2.0.202 developer has fix this and for gamers this is a very good thing, thanks to the dev for this:good:
* Install Remix OS 2.0.202 rooted, install appops from PlayStore, enable "draw on top" in tincore apps, and now we can simulate multitouch touch screen Remix OS
note: some report it only work in 32bit remix os and i never try 64 bit rmxos and maybe u should wipe data.img in order to do this,
I am still not able to simulate touch. :|
It keeps focusing on the mouse pointer.
Any help?

How does his work on 64 bit
A better method.
1) Download latest Remix OS.
2) Install it.
3) It is pre-rooted with in-built root manager. Rejoice and praise Lord Gaben. Half Life 3 confirmed.
4) Press Alt+F1. It will open the console.
5) Type the following:
appops set com.tincore.and.remapper SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW allow

6) Press Alt+F7.
7) Tincore mapper works flawlessly. Rejoice and praise Lord Gaben , our lord and saviour. Again.
---------- Post added at 07:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:06 PM ----------
BONUS STUFFS ABOUT TINCORE:
Using with PS3 Controller in conjugation with Sisaxis Enabler:
The way tincore works is simple. Press a button on the controller, and the corresponding software button will appear on the screen. Using the muse, place it where you desire the touch simulation of that software button to appear. Once done, do it with all the buttons on the controller, save it in a profile and then use the profile to play a non-gamepad enabled game.
The app is great, though, badly executed and sometimes very frustrating. But, for a free app, you cannot ask for more.
Hope this helps. If not, praise Lord Gaben.

Even after updating to 2.0.202 32 bit, tincore seems to focus on mouse when I click on a button and select "touch screen".

You should download "Remix OS for PC Hacked Edition v2.0.202" (32-bit) from this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/remix/remix-os/remix-os-pc-hacked-edition -ota-v2-0-201-t3345968
and copied the "initrd.img" file in your RemixOS folder.
Until now I was testing Remix on a flash drive, most of the stuff is running great, so I think it's time to try it on the HD.
So here's the question, it's possible to install RemixOS on HD without create partition?
I want Remix to be installed in a regular folder in my HD, with an option to select it in the OS selector when PC starts, and I want it to use data.img instead of something else... Basically just like Phoenix OS.
Is this possible?
Thx..

dude, all you need to do is to look on jide's web
For Hard Disk Installation:
NOTE: Currently, installation tool only supports Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10, with a minimum capacity of 8GB. Users of other operating systems, please install on USB flash drive.
1. Download the Remix OS for PC package, which contains the Remix OS for PC ROM & Installation Tool.
2. Open the Remix OS Installation Tool and follow the instructions to install Remix OS for PC on your hard disk.
3. Reboot your PC.
NOTE for UEFI boot: press special key (F12 for Dell, F9 for HP, F12 for Lenovo, Option Key for MAC) while booting to enter boot menu and ensure that Secure Boot is disabled.
4. Select Remix OS in Windows Boot Menu.

Thanks, I already saw this...
But in this guide it's not clear what the installation tool will do, if it will create partitions, if it will format something etc... Take the USB installation as an example, I never thought it would create 3 partitions on it...
That's why I'm asking this... Besides, I saw many people unable to boot into Windows after some sort of HD installation of Remix.
Have you tried this method of installation?
If yes, how is the structure of the directory, what files are in there, is it using data.img?

The hard drive installation will create a folder called "RemixOS" and add a boot entry for it in the Windows boot loader. In that folder is the kernel, initrd.img, system.img, menu.lst and some other files. An 8 GB data.img will be created on first boot. Those who have problems with booting are typically using a third-party method to install it.

It appears that for the issue mentioned in the link you posted the solution is to simply disable Secure Boot. I don't have much experience with UEFI myself, but on a BIOS system the installer worked perfectly, it didn't break either Windows or Linux Mint.

Fortunately (I hope) I'm on BIOS as well, cause I heard somewhere that disabling secure boot prevents Windows to boot. I don't know if it's a Windows requirement on UEFI machines...

I expanded the data.img using this tutorial (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/android-tp2/138623-how-get-bigger-data-img.html). Don't mind the fact that it was originally made for Windows Mobile devices running Android on SD card, the concept is the same (add zeros to the end of data.img, then expand the partition table in the data.img to cover the extra space).

Thank you Sir.
Hmm, interesting...
Where I can choose this, in the installation tool?
And does it take too long to boot? I'm asking this because I expanded the data.img of Phoenix OS, and since then it takes a lot more time to boot.
Cheers..

nope, as long as your data.img is much smaller than your actual harddisk, you will have no problems with speed.
yes, the instalation tool asks you what size you want to use, either 8, 16 or 32 GB can be chosen

Yeah,you heard it right!
The long awaited feature, ability to map keys for games that are originally developed for touchscreen enabled devices are coming to RemixOs.
The chinese version of RemixOs has a new version (2.0.401) dated 27th June 2016,which claims to support keymapping.
You can check the changelog at https://bbs.jide.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=7351
I wanted to give it a try.but the download was stucked due to the low bandwith offered by server, unfortunately.
If you are brave enough to take a early look,or can't wait for the global release. here are the download links.
1) http://pan.baidu.com/s/1bpibhZT
Code: gbku
2) https://yunpan.cn/OcRUtwhPNKenuX
Code: 938d
PS: Those files are hosted in chinese servers,so the bandwith is not super high. You're on your own,and ask google translate for help

There're few bugs that stop Android-x86 6.0 from daily use. For example,Google play services always crash on Intel Gen8+ GPUs,which is not fixed yet.
But the devs at Jide are actively contributing to Android-x86 6.0 and you'll be able to see the results in near future. For instance, the issue of Time being reset in Windows is fixed
in the latest commit, Check the marshmallow-x86 branch at https://github.com/android-x86-mirror
Hmm...seems like a solid release. I will wait for the official announcement and update though. If it fixes my nvidia/wifi/sound issues I might actually start using this

I think there is no remix os 3.0 for PC(x86) :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:
I downloaded and installed it. My impression :
1 Locked DOWN, no more root command line
2 No Play Store option
3 Does include keymapping
4 Stock file manager can no longer read the partition on which Remix OS is installed
5 Maybe a little more quick because of changes to disk partition access
This may be because it is currently for Chinese users, hopefully there will be more flexibility with the release
EDIT 2016/07/01: After solving problems of getting into root command line, was able to deactivate jide app policy and then went on to install nova launcher, etc. Then using help from @HypoTurtle I was able to do systemless root. Everything now operating well. I will continue testing this 2.0.401 over the next few days for stability.
Summary:
1 No longer locked down
2 Play Store is activated
3 keymapping confirmed
4 Solid Explorer can read all disk partitions by using Stickmount
5 So far seems quicker than 2.0.205

I used the remixroot.zip from here. I choose to install remix os in read write mode thus I can replaced the su file at system/xbin directly.
You have to follow the method describe in that thread if you install remix os in read only mode

Thanks. I installed Remix on a Windows computer so I cannot use Ubuntu method. Also I used the Remix installation tool so everything is stock install. Guess I will have to wait for a systemless root. @HypoTurtle are you onto this yet? (lol)

If someone can post the ramdisk I'll compare to the previous version but regardless the current systemless root su/ramdisk.img should work fine; unless it's drastically different.

I thought so too. But when I substitute the ramdisk.img I get to the RemixOS splashscreen and never boots further

In that case attach the ramdisk.img to a post here and I'll take a look.
edit. @lollyjay on your edit above -- you shouldn't need stickmount... check if the partitions are mounted to /mnt/media_rw/hdd*
Why another tutorial?
As I searched the net and XDA for a guide to actually install Remix OS and found nothing that worked for me I decided to share with you guys how I managed to install it in Resident Mode. Writing this from XDA Labs on my PC now... For me I found out that the Remix OS installer is totally useless - with some copying from Remix OS folder to root folder of the created partition and manually adding UEFI entry I managed it to boot in Guest Mode but Resident Mode was still not working (bootloop). This started to make me mad as I tried so many tutorials already...
So I tried Phoenix OS and it seemed at first that this one was much better - no need for adding UEFI boot entry or experiencing Windows boot entry problems and such as it installs GRUB and boots the OS just fine. First entry in GRUB is Windows, second one Phoenix OS. Well, started it and it booted up... finally! Used it, wanted to install an app and ran into a random reboot. After a while I recognized that these random reboots happened quite often and the system was unusable for me. So my idea was just to replace Phoenix OS files with Remix OS files as the booting part was already working... and guess... it worked! You can't choose Guest Mode though, but I think you won't need that at all on your PC.
Best one on this: you won't need to open your BIOS start-menu and can boot up normally, just choose your system in GRUB bootloader which appears automatically without the need to do anything before. I find it quite annoying to hit BIOS button to start Remix OS, don't you too? So if you are able to install but don't like that behaviour this tutorial is also for you!
So here it is...
On which machines does this work?
Should be working on all PCs / Laptops running Windows 10 with GPT and UEFI BIOS. Probably also works on machines with MBR instead of GPT partition table and legacy Bios, quite sure this works also on older Windows versions (7/8/8.1). Just let me know if it works for you or doesn't.
How to install
(1)
- Create an NTFS partition on which you want to install it (right, no FAT32 crap!). It should be at least 32 GB.
If you don't know how just search XDA or Google. There are several Remix OS installing tutorials on YouTube which show how to do that in Windows.
(2)
- Download Phoenix OS 1.0.9 RC
- Download Remix OS or Remix OS Hacked Edition if you like to have root and some tweaks for it.
I used Hacked Edition.
(3)
- Use Phoenix OS installer and install it on your created partition (make sure you got the correct drive letter! I'm not responsible if you don't and lose your data...), don't reboot.
- Open the created partition in Explorer.
Create a folder named RemixOS, move all files from PhoenixOS to RemixOS.
(Obviously Phoenix is based on Remix and expects it's data to be in RemixOS folder. Funny bug. ;D)
- Reboot. Choose Remix OS.
Enjoy the nice, buggy OS. For some this may be just everthing they need. If you're happy and experience no reboots or other bugs you should be just fine and don't have to follow the next steps.
(4)
- Reboot to Windows.
- Unzip Remix OS archive - should be 2 files: Remix OS image and installer. You could safely delete the installer as you won't need it.
Use 7zip or Winrar (or whatever) to extract the Remix OS image file into a folder.
- Move the contents of that extracted folder into the RemixOS folder on your created partition. Overwrite everything. You could also extract the image file directly into RemixOS folder.
(5)
- Reboot. Choose Remix OS.
- Done.
You now should be running a working Remix OS in Resident Mode. Works fine here.
Be nice and hit thanks if I could help you.

Hi.
Does that mean that the installation of Phoenix OS erase all the data in that partition?

I'm not sure about that, only used it on a freshly formatted partition. Mentioned this just to make sure not to be blamed if it should do so.
There's a few things off with these instructions:
1. PhoenixOS does not use a RemixOS folder
2. PhoenixOS's grub.cfg won't boot any RemixOS version especially x64 - as PhoenixOS is 32bit only.
stock phoenixos grub.cfg
Code:
menuentry 'Phoenix OS' --class android-x86 {
search --set=root --file /efi/PhoenixOS/kernel
linux /efi/PhoenixOS/kernel quiet root=/dev/ram0 androidboot.hardware=android_x86 SRC=/PhoenixOS vga=788
initrd /efi/PhoenixOS/initrd.img
}
Something else is going on here. Perhaps the phoenixOS's grub.efi is being used; but it's using the RemixOS grub.cfg. But I think it's just the RemixOS .efi/.cfg and something just switched the default bootloader to grub2 from WBM

Maybe, my deeper technical know-how about that is very limited, but I know that it works for me - reproducible. This is just for those like me who tried literally every guide on the net and still none worked. This one probably will. Myself, I find that kind of strange, too and I'm not able to explain why, but it does work. It's just a try and error thing, but for me it works - as already mentioned: reproducible. Got an i7 2nd gen and a X79 Gigabyte Mainboard.

I'm not saying it doesn't work; but what appears to be happening is that the first 'failed' RemixOS installation added things [to efi/esp partition]. And the PhoenixOS install added or replaced something that made the first install work correctly - it could be either the PhOS grub.efi [although that's 32bit] or as simple as it changing your default bootloader.
Download EasyUEFI if you can and see what's in the first partition - I'm just personally curious as to what is going on here.
I'm also using a non-Jide released grub [like Ubuntu users would be - but with a different setup]

Sounds very possible... Got EasyUEFI installed but I'm at work atm. Will tell/show you what's in there later this evening when I'm home. The strangest thing I didn't get: original RemixOS booted fine after copying RemixOS folder content to root - but only guest mode worked, not resident. But I mentioned that already in OP. The whole thing would have been a lot easier if I didn't ditch my Arch Linux for RemixOS (for GRUB's sake... ;D), but there were less things to learn...
These instructions didn't work for me, except for the fact that I didn't create a partition. Phoenix would come up as a boot choice but would boot loop.
