So after lots of flashing of different roms on my Moto E 1st gen
(XT1022) I ended up unable to turn WIFI on in any rom, including
stock!
Thing is, after days of breaking my head with this, I figured out I was
missing the WCNSS_qcom_wlan_factory_nv.bin file from the /Persist
folder.
How did that file go missing and why it was not restored when
restoring to stock or flashing roms? Dam good question, I don't have
an answer to that yet, BUT, I have a fix.
Simply download the attached .rar, unzip it, and manually put the
WCNSS_qcom_wlan_factory_nv.bin file in your /Persist folder using
any root explorer / file manager on your device and reboot!
Such a simple little thing gave me so much trouble, hope this will help
future users who might face the same problem, as I already saw
around that other people are also having the same issue.
Happy surfing on your now working WIFI!:fingers-crossed:

No, I didn't. Explain please.....

Did, you flashed a custom kernel on the Rom ?
Try, not to flash the kernel and Reflash the Rom after wiping all the data, system etc.
It might be helpful.

Plug ur mem card into a card reader and.
Try this:
1. Open cmd (run as administrator)
2. Type DISKPART, a new window will open.
3. Type list disk/drive ( i dnt remember, but it's either of them )
4. Select end 32gigs partition by:
Code:
select drive 1
(Whichever drive shows size of 32 gigs)
5. Type CLEAN
6. then again
Code:
select drive 1
(Whichever drive shows size of 32 gigs)
And type,
Code:
create partition primary
And then,
Code:
select partition 1
7.Type
format fs=fat32
It'll take some time.. But yea, will surely work and save your tears..
Do let me know..
Hit the thinks botton if it helped..

Or Use Mini Tool Partition Wizard

I flashed the Unofficial CM13 on my Moto E 2015 using TWRP and since then my wifi is gone. I am also facing same issue wherein the wifi would immediately turn off after turning it on. I tried the solution mentioned about putting that file in the /persist folder (I downloaded the file from another thread since the link in this thread is broken) but using ES Explorer, it is not allowing me to copy and keeps saying "Copy Failed". I am not sure how to change permissions using ESexplorer.
What can I do to fix this ?

Goto the page from where you've downloaded the kernel, there must be a link for downloading wifi modules, download them, place them on ur sdcard and install them through recovery.
If theres no wifi modules, u can install another kernel, lyk 'Lupus JB'.

hi, i got a similar problem with my smultron so i would be interested if you found a solution.
i figured out that in stock based rom (and kernel) the wifi works, in different cm builds it doesnt. i tried different kernels (even some i already got the wifi working) but nothing helped. For this kernels i didn't have to flash any modules ( the description said that i don't have to...(already included!?)).
I have to admit, that i don't know much about all this stuff, so i would really appreciate if someone could give me a hint about what to do
thanks allot!
Hmmmm...do this step....
1.using any file explorer with ROOT excess, go and delete....
a. /data/local/tmp
2.Then copy and paste all files from roms that you're using right now (flashable zip)....
a./system/lib/modules (flashable zip) to your phone /system/lib/modules (replaced all files with proper permission rwxr-xr-x)
3.delete other files that is not been replaced (can be identified by look at the date of the files/delete files that have old date)
4.exit the file explorer, turn of your phone and boot into fastboot....
5.flash any kernel you desire....
6.your wifi will fixed after that....
ah... i'm really sorry i didn't see your reply till now
didn't try your solution, but it the end i got it working again. don't remember how
anyway, thanks allot for your help!!!

[Q] Help! How to flash kernel, rom, etc. from totally stock YP-G1? I'm a total noob

Hi people. I've been browsing a lot lately and Reading about roms, kernel, and other stuff related to customization of Android devices. I consider myself enough tech-savvy to understand technical things about hardware on this devices but when it comes to all the thing related to flashing roms and kernels and related things i have no clue of what you're talking about, lol.
However, I'm really interested on "installing" Cyanogenmod 10 on my Galaxy Player 4 just to see what happens and how flashing roms feels like, so i can try different roms later and enhance my device. But no matter how hard I try to find a tutorial about how to begin from total stock (as the device comes from the store) haven't been lucky finding one. As far as I know the first step is flashing a new kernet with CWM, so then i can flash the roms. But I'm stuck on Step One :s
So, if there's a link you can post here to help begin with this flashing trend it'd be great. Or if you can redact a "custom" tutorial for me, a total programming noob but interested as hell about modifying my GP4 that would be a thousand times better.
Also, feel free to recommend me kernels or roms or whatever you feel i could use
Thanks!!!
PD: not native english speaker
I just finished doing this exact thing myself, so its fresh in my mind First, BACK UP!! there are different methods with varying degrees of how much they back up, search the forum for them. Definitely backup the efs. Instructions are in the first post for the CM10 ROM. Then, I began by flashing a custom kernel using Odin. Instructions on how to do this can be found in the Tips and Tricks section of this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27615927
Kernels can also be found in the appropriate section of that post. Make sure you get one for your device. All of them include CWM (ClockworkMod) which is what you need to easily flash a full ROM. The kernel won't actually effect your current operating system accept to maybe improve performance.
Next, download the ROM file(s) onto your device. ROMs are also in the above post. Again, make sure you get one for your device. Read the instructions in the ROM thread on how exactly to flash them, but the general procedure is to boot into CWM by holding some set of buttons during start up (probably power + volume up) and navigate the CWM menu to flash the ROM.

Ok i downloaded both Odin and the Terra Silent kernel. Samsung kies is already installed so Odin is detecting my galaxy player.
But the terra silent kernel is a zip file, if i extract it the extracted file has no extension, only says zlimage and i have no idea what it is. Then, when I open Odin, there are the next options:
PIT

PDA
PHONE
CSC
where should i upload the zlimage?

That's because you're suppose to flash it via CWM. If it's a tar file, you flash it via Odin. And you're not suppose to extract it, lol.

Is Terra Silent compatible with CM10??? Reading the thread of Terra Silent a user made a comment on this asking the developer (i guess) to make Terra Silent compatible with CM10.... :s
ok now i have some problems...
got to flash the Terra Silent Kernel. After rebooting everything was ok. Installed Rom Manager in order to install CWM. Rom Manager installed CMW and then came back to main menu. There was an option for creating a copy of the stock rom, thought it wolud be a good idea to make a copy. When i did it, phone went black and then reboted. after rebooting came back to the lock screen but changed language (spanish -> english). Algo noticed there was missing the google search bar. When entered to the apps menu there were a lot of icons of the android robot with an SD card symbol over. When clicked them it says that the apps are not installed on the system.
installed rom manager again, and went to recovery boot. flashed both cm9 and cm 10 included in the cm 10 thread. Now my playr is stuck in the recovery screen...
what do i do?

I did this change, switched numbers and now i can see the files on the sd card. Only that before flashing CM 10 the access to the sd card was through a folder calles "externa sd", now the sd card files and folders are scattered on the home screen of any file explorer i acess the sd card with. It's not a big ideal but i dont like it.
When i edited the file you told me there was a 1 after where now says sdcard 1. Shoud that number be erased or better keep it?

Can't delete files from my external memory card through file explorer

I have tried a lot of custom Roms. I'm on Neat ROM Lite now. Not sure which ROM changed my file access permission settings to cause this problem but I'm not able to delete any files from my external memory card. I was able to delete when I was on stock rom. The other problem is for a few apps I get an error message which says can't install on usb/sd card. I have posted this in another thread
some time back but got no response. Some one please point me in the right direction.
This is what my file permission looks like.
PS: I am able to delete when my fone is connected to PC via USB. So I don't think it has anything to do with a faulty sd card.

Create a blank file and type that command in it. Now save it and rename it to 95mountsd with no extension
Now, if you have init.d support, place it in /system/etc/init.d and reboot
Command will run on every boot itself
Thank you, it worked. Now could please have a look at my other issue, in this post I'd be really thankful.

No Direct Downloads

Hi @ all
Hope you understand what i want to say
i hate google translate and tried it on my own
Since few days i can not download files that are direct linked in a xda thread or on other internet sites.
I click a link to download
then came a message : download unsucessfull
Mega, androidfilehost all other hosts works normal to download.
Standard browser says unsucessfull
Fiefox no downloads avaiable in guest mode
i think the problem starts with installing
Lineage OS 14.1 7.1.1 on my Note 4.
i dont like it and restored my MM backup from TWRP
after a full wipe incuding Internal SD.
after that the problem starts with downloads.
Tried all the little mods, apps and tweaks that i found with google to restore my download problem.
in the end i do following....
1. i make a full wipe again flashed a stock MM Rom with odin
no luck.
2. i flashed a correct! PIT file + Stock Int rom, no luck
3. PIT + Rom + Nand erase all!!
still the same direct download problem
I think the permission of Internal SD has changed.
In file explorer my emulated folder has 711 drwxr-x-x
right perm were 755 drwxr-xr-x or not?
is that right that files cant be saved on Sdcard with this permission? Kamera is not working too!
but external sd has other permission and dont works if i changed to it.
that hardware is damaged or something is not possible?
add logcat as attachment
hope anyone have a answer for me...

i hate google translate and tried it on my own
Since few days i can not download files that are direct linked in a xda thread or on other internet sites.

I suppose there's no issue with Ur hardware
I have faced this dload errors in most stock browsers
They are notable to get the download size and give errors
Instead use some browsers like UC
And for camera try some other camera and tell.me back

editing a rom zip before flashing it

hey guys hope u are doing fine , so lately there being this way to hide the system folder of a rom zip so u can't access the system/app or syste/priv-app so i really need to edit a rom like RN or lineageOS before flashing it , is there a way u can show me please ?
The /system folder is inside system.imgin the zip
Use 7zip to extract just that, mount the IMG with some kind of special program (windows doesn't recognise ext4 partitions) edit it, then put the IMG back in the same zip.
BTW, I came across a good tutorial on what you are trying to do some time ago. I don't remember if it was here, on XDA. Have you tried googling it?

Flash the ROM, mount /system and use recovery's built-in file manager to delete whatever you want.

Well, the way I see it, it's more work to modify the IMG than to use the recovery's file manager.
Also, an idea I had while typing the above, you can write a small script to automate the process. You can the run that script from the recovery's built-in shell.
I can help you with this.
