Gear VR with a Screen Protector and Case - Samsung Galaxy S7 Accessories

Anyone knows of a case for the S7 that can used with the Gear VR without having to remove the case? I have the Luvvit Clear Case and even though it is relatively thin, it has to be removed to get the S7 to plug in the Gear VR.
Same thing for the screen protector, even with the case removed, plugging the phone in the VR presses against the screen protector (amFilm Glass, which is crap) and pushes it up by about a cm. Anyone tried to use the VR with a screen protector as well?
Also, the amFilm Glass protector has the dot matrix on it and those really ruin the Gear VR experience as they are highly visible. I'd imagine all glass protectors that have the dots will be the same.

I thought this would fit well with VR but it seems it doesn't fit:

I have just ordered this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/262356976716
Hoping it will fit in VR:fingers-crossed:

I took a sharp pocket knife and chipped away the 2 tiny plastic bumps within the connector on the VR headset that's supposed to help guide the phone into the usb I believe. My screen protector, without case, glass or ArmorSuite kept getting snagged by these 2 lil bumps. Fits perfect now with the screen protector with no catch.
Look in attached photo, circled in blue, for what I'm talking about.

Great tip. Got rid of those two little rubber stoppers and fits with my screen protector great.

I consider to cut that plastic parts cos phone doesn't fit Gear VR with tempered glass. If I cut these 2 plastic part, does phone still fit toughly in Gear VR and stays stable when I turn head when Gear VR is on?

Yes. Fits great. I am using thinnest tempered glass screen cover and it still stays stable with rubber stoppers. To be honest, it's still a bit tighter than I would like. It still will push the A-B slider as I insert it unless I manually hold it in place. No negatives for me cutting the rubber stoppers flush.

So you are all removing the rubber bump from the connector?
Do you guys have any problem with the front of the screen, near the Samsung logo? I have noticed a mark on my screen protector around the Samsung logo. May be it is created when the phone is installed and something is pushing towards the logo? Anyone having this problem? Or is just my screen protect not being of good quality?

I've noticed some small scratched at the top of my phone above the speaker
Kept wondering where they came from and then realized that's where the phone inserts into the Gear VR

You have a scratch? You didn't install a screen protector? Or did you still get that scratch with the screen protector on?

The screen protector doesn't cover that area. It's a PET 1 pice and stops at the sensors/camera/speaker and the scratches are right above the speaker near the edge of the glass

The plastic of the GearVR shouldn't scratch the glass. The gorilla glass is much harder (on the rockwell scale).

I cut it and it worked, thanks sir:good:

I insert my phone at an angle into the Gear VR so to prevent the rubbing you guys are describing. I lift up the lever that holds the phone in, insert phone in an almost upright position, and push it down into the level/clip. No sliding is involved and works for me.

Are you saying it fits now with a case on? Or just with a tempered glass protector?
How bout with the s7 edge + this beetle pro full protection version.. does removing the bumpers make both fit without removal.. curious? Anyone tried?

Zerolemon Glass Screen Protector Review

Zerolemon 9H Ultra Glass Armor: Tempered Glass Screen Protector
Unboxing:
I received a review unit from Zerolemon. The screen protector was sent in a bubble wrapped package. The packaging on the screen protector itself is thin poster board with plastic cut outs for the various pieces. It came with the screen protector itself, a small micro-fiber cloth and an alcohol wipe.
Installation:
Zerolemon has installation instructions printed on the poster board packaging. I didn’t need them, but for though who do, the instructions don’t make sense at all. Luckily the pictures convey much more than the written instructions do.
I applied the screen protector in my bath-room after I had the hot water running in the shower for about 10 minutes to minimize any dust particles that were in the air. I tried using the micro-fiber cloth to clean the screen of any residual oil and particles. It did a good job getting rid of oily residue, but is horrible at picking up dust, which might be due to the cloth being tiny (2”x2”). Then I used the alcohol wipe to wipe down the screen one more time. That did the trick. It removed the rest of the particles.
After taking a plastic film off the screen protector I placed it on my phone. The great thing about it is that you can move it slightly to get it to fit perfectly then tap the middle of the screen and the screen protector will adhere to the screen like magic! I didn’t have any issues with bubbles.
Initial Impressions:
The screen protector is much thicker than a plastic one. It somewhat hides the home button because the screen protector is thicker than the protruding button. Not really an issue with me because I actually prefer that so I don’t accidentally press the home button when the phone is in my pocket, but it might bother others. Powering on my device and testing the responsiveness of the screen, the first thing I noticed how nice it felt to touch. Feels just like the glass on the phone. With the rounded edges I wasn't able to feel where the screen protector started and ended from edge to edge of the phone.
The screen’s responsiveness was noticeably diminished. All gestures and taps had to be deliberate for the phone to register the touch. I use the S-Pen quite often to create illustrations on the device. For regular navigation using the S-Pen it operated like normal, but I noticed that I had to push harder while doodling on the screen or using the hand writing recognition. Due to the diminished responsiveness I did have to go into “Settings>Controls>Auto-adjust touch sensitivity” and enable that option so that the screen would return to normal.
Viewing angles are comparable to naked screen.
I will update again in about 2 weeks after I’ve had more time to put it through the torture test of life.
Any info on how thick it is, it looks exactly like the same as the MIME Feather Glass. I use the s-pen with the MIME and I didn't have to turn up the sensitivity but it's only .15mm thick.

It's 0.3mm according to their website.
I hope to be receiving mine soon and will comment on the touch screen responsiveness as well. I currently use a 0.4mm thick glass screen protector (it started to bubble randomly, so I needed a new one anyways), and haven't noticed any reduction in responsiveness, so hopefully my experience will be able to provide a different experience than the OP (especially as I'm going from glass to glass, while it appears as though OP went from plastic to glass, which in my opinion is an incomparable difference).
I just received my review unit as well. It's very thin and barely noticeable. I'm using it with my ZeroLemon Extended Battery and it fits perfectly under the case. I haven't had screen responsiveness issues as mentioned in the OP.
I'll post pics up a little later.

The screen protector wasn't built in on my case.
If yours has one built in, then you should probably remove it.

I got my review unit today and its pretty good. Mouahmong's review is almost spot on. If you know how to apply a screen protector you are good to go. However, if you have never done it before, watch a Youtube video because the instructions shown on the inside of the package are terribly written.
My advice on applying (especially if your house/apartment or wherever you live is dusty) do it after a hot shower. Doing so will let the dust settle.
The screen protector does have somewhat rounded edges so it's not sharp unlike some other cheaper tempered glass screen protectors. However, with a 0.3mm thickness, you won't even be able tell.
I didnt have much of an issue with the home button after applying the screen protector. Some other brands will provide a stick on item to put on top of the home button so its easier to press, but with this screen protector being pretty thin (0.3mm) you wont need it IMO.
Other than that, so far so good. If I find any cons, I'll update this review.

Here are some pics with the Tempered Glass Screen Protector paired with the ZeroLemon Extended Battery/Rugged Case. This thing is very thin. The previous glass screen protector I had installed was too thick and caused the top corners to lift up. No problem here. Fits like a glove.
Installed the zerolemon screen protector a few days ago and ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT with my 10,000 mah battery and rugged case! I never liked screen protectors because I thought they took away the OEM glass feel and clarity. I now admit my past reservations were completely wrong and I will never have my phone screens go naked again! The zerolemon glass screen protector fits like a glove with the 10,000 mah battery and rugged case and I would strongly recommend the protector to everyone who owns the rugged case to give this a shot. Last thing, the cost of this is better than most of the other name brand protectors out there.

Haven't tried it in sunlight but it should glare just as much as the regular glass.
This isn't a anti glare screen protector.
So far it does well in direct sunlight. Minimal glare. Similar to stock naked.

It is the same as the OEM glass screen, no better and no worse. I think the glass protector feels smoother than the OEM screen. Maybe it's because the oleophobic coating was starting to wear off but I swear the new screen protector feels buttery smooth when I swipe my finger or use the s pen.

People recommend installing in the bathroom because steam from the hot water will prevent dust particles from floating in the air.

I love it so far. The packaging is nothing fancy but the product is top notch. I previously had the Nillkin tempered glass and this one is identical to it which is a good thing. All the cutouts are perfect. It feels just like the naked screen. The price is very much reasonable unlike those other brands selling them for $20+ and the quality is the same.

I just received my review unit and will update this thread with my review in a few days. I did notice though after installing the screen protector there is a "bubble" in the top portion of the screen right overtop the notification panel and directly under the Samsung logo. I thought maybe I installed it wrong or slightly sideways so I very gently pulled it back up making sure I didn't touch the sticky backing and realigned the glass with the home button and pressed it back down firmly. The "bubble" is still present but a tad smaller then it was originally. I kept rubbing the screen hoping to eliminate the bubble like other brand plastic type screen protectors and no dice. I will give it a few days and hopefully it will work itself out. I hope I didn't somehow get a "defective" glass that wasn't completely flat which is causing this bubble. See attached pic showing the "bubble" and the packaging stating it has "Bubble Free Installation". [emoji53]

Just got it in the mail today. Install went smooth very simple to install. Glass it's thin but works great with my tpu case.
Came with alcohol pad
Fiber cloth
Hard card for bubbles
And glass
Feels like I have nothing on my phone, and so far I don't have any trouble with the screen recognizing my touch. And no problems with my tpu case with it on! Recommended it to anybody who can get their hands on it!

It really is. It's like I'm running the phone naked. The only time I'm reminded of it is when I go caseless.
Really? I have this and am not impressed at all. Yes it feels nice. Yes it installed very easily with no bubbles. What bothers me is the fit and without radii edges. It's very visible white edges. It's not even close to the edge of the glass and it doesn't cover the camera, LED, and light sensors. Replacements are on the way...
Yes maybe you got a bad batch. But I don't have any problems with rough edges. Mine doesn't fit all the way to edge but very very close but I like that it's like this because of my tpu case I didn't want it to rub up against it to lift it allowing dust in between the protector.
Which could be how they made it in the first place who knows!
Also yes the camera led and speaker aren't covered but it's so close to it that I don't see this area being scratched unless you are running without a case.

Yep, probably the very reason it doesn't fit the screen well.
I'm running a Spigen Slim Armor case, The cases bezel around the screen just covers the plastic edge of the phone, not the glass, which I like very much. I'm not a fan when a case covers glass because it can interfere with trying to select certain things on the screen. So it is more apparent when a screen protector doesn't quite go to the edge of the glass. The white edges and die cut around the camera, LED, and sensors make it that much worse too, unfortunately.
See mine was cut longer on the sides and the bottom so the only gap I have is the top part where they intentionally left uncovered.
Looks to me that there different batches with some weird cuts. You said you getting a replacement from them? Or did you mean you are ordering from a different company?

Ringke Fusion Crystal for Xperia Z5 Premium

Bought the fusion crystal case from Ringke:
GOOD:
- Completely transparent to show off Z5P's sexy back
- Grip is pretty solid
- Caps for both the headphone jack and the USB port provides additional protection for when you have that occasional dip in the pool.
- Looks premium; doesn't look cheap
- Has these four little bumpers at the back to prevent the case from being scratched when put on a flat surface
- Volume rocker and power rubbers can be easily pressed
- Scratch-resistant (so far)
- Comes with free screen protectors for both front and back
BAD:
- Fingerprint magnet (so you need to wash it after a hard day's use)
How is that and where did you get it from?
I have this one as well. Ordered from Amazon. Took forever to arrive, I think it is just becoming available. Very happy with it. Really zero complaints. Came with front and rear PET screen cover that work nicely to protect the back (didn't use it on the front, already had another screen protector). The insert said this was to prevent visual artifacts. It's a nice bonus.

didn't use the screen protectors as i also already have my front screen protector and i don't want to cover the glass effect at the back. the back protector was matte so it covers the mirror back and i've always used the back as a mirror.
when i put on the back protector is clear as i can still see the mirror, after removing the top layer sticker which is part (2) my back protector goes matte. i suddenly feel so disappointed. the matte back looks nice but i still prefer the mirror back. im struggling should i remove the back protector as it is a very good quality and when i stick it on theres very little bubble and easy to take out those bubble.

No it doesn't. I am using a Ringke case with the back screen protector now and it's a perfect mirror.
It's not actually a tempered glass screen protector it's a very thin layer that (supposedly) prevents a rainbow effect occurring if you use the Ringke case - but of course it also provides some protection as well.
No idea what this person did ... maybe they somehow forgot to remove the protective packaging?

Got mine yesterday, smoke black, and my pone looks great. You have to use the back cover and everything will work and look as intended. Good qualiy case but a bit pricy
This is the best case for z5p. Its not over protected, but just enough. Also fits perfect.
Huge fan of Ringke Fusion cases in general, as I used them on few of my past phones. I will go as far as saying this is probably the best case of this clear/hybrid type in general, beating even the Spigen Ultra Hybrid which is quite hyped case. I find Ringe Fusion extremely precisely built, with perfect cutouts, and also the button cover sections are very easy to press, and you perfectly feel the "click" underneath. One more thing I like, is that the surface is so gentle to wipe, and not sticky at all, like some kind of oleophobic coating for plastic is there. I'm using the smoke black version on my Z5P, and I love it, along with matt protector for back side which takes away some of the mirror effect, but also reduces smudges and dust visibility.

Rhinoshield Solidsuit and Impact Screen Protector for 6T

Attached are the photos of the 6T solid suit and the impact screen protector that I just installed this morning. The solid suit feels amazing and the screen protector is film and feels like glass, but is definitely not glass, just so there is no confusion there. It does seem to go from left edge to right edge completely and where I placed it seems to cover the entire screen top to bottom. The slider on the case really works and the buttons are fantastic; smooth and clicky, not at all hard to press. I love both and I'm glad I got them ordered on Black Friday now because two protectors and a case was not inexpensive but they are both super high quality and way more affordable than the glass one from T-Mobile so I'm happy with my purchase. If you have any questions I'll try my best to answer them!
Also, don't mind the doggo, she likes being in pictures.
Can u tell me how the side buttons are? Are they still clicky? Or are they mushy like the stock case that comes with the phone....
And how's the slider button? Is it flimsy?

The buttons are great, I handed someone else my phone so two people could verify that they are very clicky and easy to push. The slider has some play in it up and down but it does work correctly when it hits the slider on the device. No issues with functionality at all this is a really great case.

Is the screen protector you have on This one? It says "Not Full Coverage" on it... I can't see clearly on your photos how close to the edge of the screen the screen protector comes to... I had the same impact screen protector on my old Samsung Galaxy S7, and it didn't even cover the full screen on the left and right, which is the reason I didn't order this screen protector for my 6T..
how slick is the screen protector compared to the pre-applied plastic one from OP?

Sorry about the late response I'm traveling abroad. I have the impact screen protector as the tempered glass one is for the back I think. Anyway, as far as not full coverage I think what they mean is that it covers the visible screen but not the edges past that. It doesn't extend fully top to bottom either but it does cover all the visible screen space as far as I can tell; no obvious cutoff of the screen though it does require precise placement to line it up properly.

Much slicker definitely. Feels like glass but definitely doesn't get rid of oil the way glass does. It feels good to the touch and it is very strong as I dropped on a stool and it bounced onto a hardwood floor right after that. There was no damage to the screen, but the protector did crack so I'll replace it when I get home. It did very well holding up to direct impact on a metal stool; lived up to the hype for me.
Can u take better pictures of the screen protector again?

There was no damage to the screen, but the protector did crack so I'll replace it when I get home. It did very well holding up to direct impact on a metal stool; lived up to the hype for me.

The impact resistance shatters? I thought it was some type of plastic film.

I also purchased a SolidSuit (with the lens mount) for my 6T and while I like the build material, I don't like the little details. Let me explain:
1) The back of the case has this weird look and feel like it's made from three separate medium-fiber density board with a black sticker over it. I can actually feel the transitions between the three pieces and I don't like it. See the attached picture.
2) There is a noticeable gap at the top of the phone where the back meets the bumper edge. However, on the bottom, it's completely flush. My pockets are clean, but somehow dust and small particles find its way into that tiny gap. Ugh,
3) The special lens adapter is amazing since I am now able to mount the Moment 18mm WIDE V2 lens. However, since the bayonet mount sits so far away from the camera lens, it creates vignetting. FYI: The OP6T and the OP6 share the same lens adapter. I bought both. They are labeled differently, but they are identical in every way: height, mounting point, etc. If they did this correctly, the adapter for the OP6T should be SHORTER since it does NOT have the same camera height protrusion as the oneplus 6.

It didn't shatter really, it just cracked along a seam where the impact was. When I get back home in two days I'll try to get pictures of the crack and the screen protector.

Best case for ROG 3- Cant find any good CASES. Which one are you using?

I cant find a good case for ROG 3 on flipkart of Amazon. Which case are you guys using? where did you buy it from??
I am using Lighting Armor case as I need to use the air trigger. If you do not care for the function of air triggers (dual & slide), can get IMAK case from aliexpress.
I'm also using the lighting armour , I like it ok it drains power but I still like it
I am using the average tpu case that is available for rog 3, i had to make cut out for the side mounted type c ports though
I'm using this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001345047036.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.5d6e4c4d4DwYCq
It's not perfect, but provides enough all around protection, the cutouts are in place.
The included tempered glass screen protector is of good quality, but the black border covers a few pixels on the sides.
It's pretty cheap, I can recommend buying it to protect your ROG Phone 3 - as I said, it's not perfect, but good enough.
Using this one with a tempered glass in the front and a silicon film in the back
I have ordered this IMAK transparent black TPU case with extra corner shock-proofing along with these IMAK clear soft hydrogel films for front & back protection.
Hopefully shipment arriving to me by early next month.
Used to use the lighting armor case until the slippery uncovered aluminium side caused me to drop the phone yesterday, now the phone has a dent on the top right corner of the frame. Lighting armor has the best look of all the cases out there. Now using Zshow case which should prevent it from hitting the screen flat down if I ever drop it again. I'm lucky the phone didn't fall face down with the lighting armor case which would have guaranteed a cracked screen.
I have the imak tpu case too but it cause the tempered glass to lift.
Besides the tempered glass being lifted issue, what's your experience/ feedback regarding your IMAK TPU case (is it with extra corner protection)?
Imak case is quite loose around the air triggers, power button, volume button and side port. Top 4 corner airbags are the problems as they can be depressed quite easily and this cause the screen protector to lift up. You will know when you hold the phone on your right hand with your palm resting with the bottom right corner for support, and this can cause the screen protector to lift.
I'm getting the hydrogel film screen protectors - Hoping that screen lift is not an issue.....
What's your experience or opinion regarding the general damage/ drop protection with this case?
Quality, overall fitting & feel?
It will protect if dropping on the corners as well as face down. However dropping on the back might be a problem because the camera lens are protuting out (although the case cover the camera lens). Placing the phone on the table will also result in wobbly phone when using.

Quality, would say it is better than those generic cheap tpu case (which has worse fit than imak), feel wise, it is slippery on the back.
I just received this: Foluu ROG Phone 3 Case through Amazon. £6.71. To hold it without the phone it doesn't feel great and whilst over the standard case it comes with its bulkier I feel so much safer knowing my camera wont get scratched when I put the phone down. It also raises of the front screen by a minuet amount so there is a bump as you move your finger about. I'd rather that than a nasty scratch though so happy with it.
Air trigger holes and extra power connector cut out too as well as on the back a nice design

It covers the side? The picture on amazon looks like it is an open side design. I don't see slapping that case will provide a good grip.

I am using Asus Original Screen Protector without antibacterial coating. The antibacterial protector is not available in my country. Great protector, no blocking of edge unlike the cheap china protector which has thick black borders and block the edges of the display.

Thanks for this, I did think about getting this over.
I'm using the magnetic flip case which is great, but no front lip so don't drop the thing like I did, broke my display as the screen protector didn't quite cover all of it and a tiny stone hit the outer edge.
Not the end though as I've bought another, and will get it repaired under insurance consider it a lesson learned.

This was with the rog case which in all honesty shouldn't come with it.
This is the protector, don't bother with it, I've another coming that has smooth edges, looks decent so will see.
Turns out the one I've ordered might be the same Asus sells.

FEEDBACK
Took about 5 weeks to arrive (from China).
This IMAK case is good build quality and fit over all, could have been a bit more snug - the extra corner padding does not make it look slick, and I am not sure if it is worth it on balance.
There is a 2 mm lip all around the front panel to help with screen protection.
Cut-outs are spot on - including for air-triggers/ 3 mics/ heat vent/ side USB ports. No cut-out for SIM-tray though but it's better this way.
Camera module is fairly well protected.
No issues with air-trigger related squeeze gestures.
The Hydrogel clear gel screen protector had a ?extra notch cut-out just left of the front camera (?? why) but otherwise the rest of the dimensions were spot on. It came as a set of x2 in one pack, which was a nice surprise. Included a helpful set of instructions/ link to video.
I preferred it to be short by about 1 mm all around the edges to minimise the risk of "lift" when the case is compressed in pockets/ when using the squeeze gestures etc.
The touch feel is smooth and has a good response. Visibility through this screen film is fine; no glare issues. I prefer these type of gel screen protectors to glass.
Has anyone come across a case that doesn't need to be removed when connecting to the accessories (eg Twinview, Mobile Desktop Dock)?
