I am a light phone user. I only make a few calls a week, and most of my phone activity is sending and receiving texts from my wife and a few co-workers a day. The problem I am having is either the battery in this phone stinks, or there is some process running it down quickly. I keep all network, GPS, bluetooth, syncing, turned off unless I use them. I have installed Greenify as I have on all of my Android devices. This morning, I have received one text. That is it.....have done nothing else on the phone, and started the day on a full charge. It has been up 3 hours and it is at 93%. yesterday, I sent and received about 4-5 texts and the phone went down to around 80 % during the same time period. That was with wifi on, but the phone is set to turn that off when the screen blanks. My phone is on Marshmallow and is unrooted. Is anybody else having the same problems with this phone?
No. I have been off charger for roughly 4 hours. About 1 hr phone calls on BT, 30 min playing games, several texts. 4 gmail accounts all set to sync. 90% battery left. On MM, probably 30 apps disabled. Best battery on a stock phone I have ever got.

I removed nearly all of LG's garbageware, all of Verizon's garbageware and most of Google's garbageware. Consequentially, I have fantastic functioning and battery life with Root.

Unless I can get the phone back to Lollipop, or somebody figures out how to root the phone with Marshmallow, I am stuck with it as it is. Today I sent and received a total of 20 texts, installed an app from the Playstore using wifi, used the mobile hotspot for about 5 minutes using mobile data, and made no calls. I turned off wifi and mobile data as soon as I stoppped using them. I also disabled background data. The phone is now at 64% charge. My HTC One Max would have still been over 90%.

Did you factory reset after the update? Did you 100% drain the battery and then recharge? Something seems to be off.

I did not drain the battery all the way as I have read conflicting reports of how effective that is. I just did a factory reset and will see what happens tomorrow!

I hear you, but for some reason on this phone i had to drain 100% to get my battery back on track. Mine used to stay on 100% for over an hour. After a full discharge, it now displays accurately.

I will give it a shot!!
Just to add my $.02 to the mix. I to am having HORRIBLE battery life after updating to MM. I have factory reset once already and am planning on doing it again tonight because the battery life is bad after the update.
I have frozen a few of the VZW things, but I do use a lot of google stuff. I've already bought a couple of extra batteries as it seems that I'm going to get stuck somewhere without a charger, and my battery will go out completely .

Why don't you just buy an Anker or RAVPower portable power supply?

Also, how long is your screen time-out? If it is a long time-out and getting notifications turns your backlight on, that might 'reduce the juice' significantly. Just another thing to check-off.

Greenify has no real effect unless you are rooted so I don't reccomend using it. Since you have Android M doze mode should be good enough to use. Also you probably only have legitimately received one text message, unless someone has confirmed that it isn't working. The main issue with Android M that I have is that sometimes phone calls will not go through on my phone, and that's really all there is for glitches on this phone so far.
I did a full factory reset from the recovery menu, then ran the battery down all the way and did a full recharge. So far, it is working MUCH better. Yesterday it was at 89% at the end of the day. All I did was send a few texts and play a few rounds of Skyforce 2014. Unlike the other day, it is not running down quickly while it is idle.
I have been off charge with little usage for 3 hours now and I am still at 100% but when I go to lunch and actually use my phone for social media and such I will burn through at least 25% in 30 to 40 minutes.

No! I do not do Facebook, Twitter, or any other social apps. The app is not on the phone. It has been on a few of my phones, but I always disable it. I am on day 3 now after the factory reset and running the battery all the way down, and that seems to have resolved my problem. I would recommend to anybody to try this if you are having the same problems I was!!
I've had horrible battery since MM update. I left it at 100% last night about 1130am and this morning at around 800am the battery was down to 89%. I even left gmail and hangouts unoptimized. I'm going to try going full 100% to 0 then see if that fixes it. If not, then I'll factory reset. I'll update... Hopefully someone figures out what is eating the battery. I loved this phone on Lollipop.....

I've searched and searched, then when I felt like I could search no more and my fingers were calloused and sore from texting and searching I did it some more! I don't know what to do, trying to avoid sending my phone in as its the only way I can communicate with my family while I'm away. This is my issue. Battery drain! Shock horror. I've been on my phone for two hours now, phone has drained 70%. All I did was Skype my wife, text only, for about an hour and a half then a half hour Skype call, with some Internet surfing in the background. Everything is off, literally, besides mobile internet. Facebook is disabled, Twitter is disabled, every other app I don't use is disabled, everything has auto sync off, I have lux installed so was running on - 50% for most of the time, kill all apps as soon as I'm done with them, battery saver on, tried gsam and wld, no dice, sleep is on, the only app I have running in the background is mobie.
Please help me!! I feel like I have a smartphone but I can't use it. Might as well have a 1999 Nokia for all the good this one does me.
That sounds not bad at all, you ARE using Skype after all and it will take a toll on your battery, seems to me you are expecting dumb phone level battery while using a known battery killer

I've looked at others Skype battery consumption. Doesn't seem illogical to lose 40% over a couple hours with only a half hour call, but 70%? When most of it was just essentially texting? That seems inordinately high. Should two episodes of a TV show on Netflix kill my battery as well? Doesn't seem like a useful phone if you get about two hours of screen time.
Try getting your battery to 0% turn it off, charge it to 100% while the phone is shut off.
If that does not improve it your Rom is having issues and you will need to flash the stock Rom via RUU, if you battery still sucks then your battery is no bueno

Thanks for the advice mate. I've heard that draining these new batteries to zero does more harm than good though?
2 days? I had a full charge in this at 6 am, now i just got a 14% low battery alert at 2:28pm...
Is this normal? I am not doing anything unusual at all, did not use it to make a single phone call, and am at work so ive only checked it a handful of times today...
what have yall experienced here??? this seems ridiculous!
Well took my gear s off charge at 7:30am and have checked it at regular points through the day including showing it off to work people and it's not 22:37pm and I still have 67% left of the battery so mines about right...
I have thus set to do Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, sms, twitter and a few other notifications so gets used fully through the day.

hmm....
i just brought up the list of running apps and found that the music app was still open (though on pause) from this morning.
i have a hunch, playing or not, that if you leave the music app open in the background it may be the source of the battery drain.
no, i do not have the clock face set to always on as well. just music app running in the background on pause.
i'm hoping this is it, though since i killed tasks i went from 14% to 1% in as many minutes. I'm guessing not...
Took it off the charger this morning at 6:30am at 60% and as of right now at 5:30pm it has 33%.
27% in 12 hours

100% @ 8:00am - 71% Now @ 7pm.
11 hrs = 29%. Used quite a bit.
I used it a fair amount today.
Took it off the charger at 7:10am (100%)
at 7:15pm it is 62%.
It seems to be getting better.

After i re-charge i'm going to try this:
Update on Battery Life for me
HUGE day of use primarily with notifications and texting. Up and fully charged at 7am and now at 5:30pm I'm still at 48% battery.
On Wifi
BT Tethered
Clock off
Brightness at 60%
Vibrate/no sound
GPS Off - which I think is a HUGE key to success. No need to have it on unless needed anyway.

TY! looks like it was already off though...
what does it mean:
Location - "gps only" ?
If it means to say location = gps, its a bit confusing...
additionally, the feature i disabled that so far has helped is the mute/pause motion option. This one option seems to be the culprit for my 100% - 0% in 8 hours issue. I'm never enabling that feature again! holy cow!
Just did my first full run down on the battery without charging, been running since yesterday morning and am down to 8%, so less than 48 hours so far, but still two full work days. I can at least forget to charge once in a while.
Not as good as my Neo's 4 dayss, but better than the 12 hours I was getting on the Moto.

Battery life for me is about a day and a half. I set the face to watch just to display black and white numbers I put a black background and that really helps. You don't need the full color watch background that drains a lot of battery when you decide to lift it up and down.

gonna give that a try. this thing is getting crazy good battery life after its 6th full charge. after 13hrs yesterday with notifications, email reply's, multiple phone calls (two calls of 20 plus minutes) the damn thing had over 60% left. that's with GS to N2 via BT.
Battery life is getting better, been on for 14 hours and still at 75%
At work 13.5 hours and I'm at 51%. Turning off the wake up motion helped me today, and running tethered to my phone helped (although I will not keep doing that), biggest help was not running with gps (but this will not be a normal occurrence). I'm going to run with phone remotely connected and gps running tomorrow and see what just having the wake motion off will do for me.
6-7 hours on GSM
Most of the posts specify battery time while using it on BT thethering.
However I like to use it as a basic phone, no worrying about carrying everywhere regular phone.
Of course I have a phone in a bag (just for case, battery!, for emails, and browsing).
- So, when using it for regular talk it lasts from 9.am to 3p.m. Specifications:
a) about 1 hour talk
b) 2 sms
c) GPS Off, WIFI off, Move ON, not installing extra apps
d) BT and SONY SBH52 ON
This is not enough.
Charging is fast - (with no connecting to plug) i can get 50% batt in 30 minutes.
Just like the title says, how's everyone's battery life, all i can say is mine is meh, not as good as i thought it could be, it's about the same or less than my previous phone surprisingly.
20 hours total, 3:15 screen on time with 25% battery left. My Xperia Z1s would've have gotten around the same maybe 4 hours at 25%
I'm only on my 3rd day with the phone, but the battery life yesterday really shocked me. I came from a water-damaged Xperia Z3v (thanks Sony), and I could easily get 2 days of use out of it. This phone appears to have similar battery life, but I spent most of the day on voice calls and only using it occasionally. Not a ton of heavy browsing in an airport, for instance. I was at home on WiFi all day.

WAT, is this through data or wifi only or combo of both? I have data on 70% of the day from 7am to about 4-5pm and so i get home with about 55% at 5pm with 1 hour and 30 min of SOT then once i get to 4% (at like 8pm) on wifi my SOT is 3 hours and 50 minutes to a little over 4 hours
my phone must be defective

Impossssibruuuu, my mom has the z3v and we took it to the pool and used it for 1 hour under water (of course taking it out every 1-3 minutes then dipping it back in) her phone still works fine, but i do have a question, did some of your google apps not work through data? I might have to factory reset hers to fix it (i've tried everything such as resetting google play services/framework etc) also i find the s6 edge+ battery not that great as it is about the same or worse than my Xperia Z1s i had on tmobile. Actually, my Z1s easily made it to 4 hours where my Edge + struggles and through the same combo of lte/wifi what I said in the post earlier
edit: just noticed your phone doesn't get a horrible google play services drain, my edge + does it's like 1st or 2nd on the list to cell standby (going to test out advanced calling on mobile data to see if that helps)

When i first got mine battery was incredible. It seems like clean master suite of apps makes the battery a little slower but i think it makes up for it by closing apps on background even after you close then out. My battery started dieing quick when i had all the clean master apps running. Cm locker, phone boost, and regular clean master. I Uninstalled cm locker and phone boost but by just leaving the original app i just click the one-click standby, and hibernate to kill background apps draining battery without having all of the CM apps running all the time draining my battery the most.
I get close to 8 hours before it gets 25% but heavy use like navigation and Bluetooth/YouTube streaming simultaneous drains a little faster.
Like the phone dieing quicker in general since i first got the phone last month but i think the quick charge has slowed down sometimes. Im at 28% right now and it says approximately 1hr 53 minutes. When i first got it out would charge like 50% in 20 minutes and I'm using original charger and cable that came with phone.

I've noticed my charging wire is defective. I'm using a micro USB cable I had lying around of course still with the adaptive fast charging and now it always says fast charging when I connect it. @ 1 hour and 30 minutes or 20 minutes
I left my phone unplugged connected to Foxfi. So from 930 pm to 300 am I was at 29% left. If it was my M7 doing the same thing it would of died in 2 hrs flat. So compared to my old phone my edge+ does better and that what I like to see. Hate getting s phone where my old one battery last longer than my new one.
Plus with fast charging it doesn't take long to charge these phones. I can be at 75% when I go to lunch and when I charge it the phone will have a full charge way before I go back. Where as my M7 would take 3 hrs.

How is the battery life on everyone's LG V10 VS990? I've got two batteries, a 3000mAH and a 3800mAH battery, but I find the battery life seems poor on either battery, both only lasting about 6-8 hours, sometimes a bit longer if I'm not using my phone a lot that day. Is this just me or everyone? I know a friend of mine with the T-Mobile variant of the V10 gets almost two days of battery life, but I'm not sure how heavy of a user he is.
A non power user can make a battery last forever on this thing. Weekends, I am not tethering or running Pandora, or getting blown up with group texts, so I can unplug at 8 am, and plug it in at 11pm with 30% or more. Week days, with all those things going on I can just get through the workday from 7:30am to 8pm or so and have to plug it in asap.

See, I unplug at 7:30am and can only get to about 3pm before I need to swap batteries if I'm not careful about how much I use my phone. Though I do a lot with my phone, it doesn't sound like as much as you do. I've checked the battery usage and it always says the Screen and Android System are using the most battery, which seems to be normal on most phones, so I know it's not a particular app. These two batteries are also only about a month old.
Don't know, I got mine at release, I do have two batteries, but only carry one unless I travel out of town. I often click to close all apps often throughout the day and use Wifi whenever possible and whenever not tethering to my iPad.
After root, I get roughly 2 days on a full charge. Greenify and freezing apps has increased battery life dramatically

Will have to try greenify again, other than the list in the general forum, did you freeze any other apps?

Nothing out of the ordinary actually. Using Tasker has helped the most, and freezing Amazon when my wife doesn't want to go shopping on my phone lol. Also, switching monitoring apps (I know, not really necessary) from Lookout to ESET.

I'm using greenify, amplify frozen apps and I'm still barely getting 2hrs sot.

Are you monitoring what's eating your battery life?
Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk
Yea there are no rogue apps or anything like that, my phone just doesn't get good battery life. Maybe it will get better if we get a custom Rom.

How about charging? I found using anything but the supplied quickcharger, even if I charged to 100%, I got less than good sot.

I haven't tried another charger I'll give that a go.
Verizon location services app eats battery at a crazy rate even when the phone is asleep. Now when phone is sleeping it eats about 1% per hour instead of the nearly 10% it was eating. The stock battery is small to. 2800MaH for a phone this size is not a lot. GPS also eats battery. If you have location on try turning it off. Also if you live on the edge of a cell zone and your phone has to constantly keep talking to the tower it can use a lot of battery. You can test this by putting your phone into airplane mode, if your battery suddenly gets better... then the cell radio is killing you... unfortunately not much you can do for that.
I haven't been using the second battery yet, keeping it around as a replacement because we know what happens after the first year of using them.
I run stock 7.1.1 on my Moto Z and lately I have seen that the battery life is terrible. If I take the phone off the charger at say 7am I will be lucky to get to 3pm before needing charging. I don't play games or watch videos using the phone primarily for phone calls (!), texts, email, news reading (I use Google Playstand) and the occasional social media (no Facebook).
The only "customisations" I have are using the Pixel Launcher 3 instead of the Motorola one, the Google camera and the native AOSP dialer rathen than the Motorola one.
I had seen a few posts from folks saying a factory reset might fix it but I want to avoid that if I can with many work apps having quite convoluted processes to get then to authenticate and sign onto to Enterprise servers again,
Thanks
Maybe reflashing the stock ROM via fastboot avoiding the line "fastboot erase userdata" because if you'll avoid this line your personal data wouldn't be erased

Check your battery wear using Accubattery.
I have the same issue. Did you find any solution?
Sent from my Moto Z using XDA Labs
the only thing that help me with this problem, was a factory reset with a fresh install of all the apps, avoiding the restore
You could try to install Greenify https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify if the phone uses a lot of battery when the screen is off.

I've been running that app for a few days now and it says my battery is 91% of health which is pretty poor for a phone and was purchased new in April of last year.

It is?
Then what about mine?
87%, purchased about the same time (about a month later).

Given both our phones are less than one year old I wonder if Motorola will replace the batteries under warranty?

I first let the app run for a month... my first value was 83%, which was awfully low...
I could live with anything nearby 90%.
My phone has 1 year and battery was terrible. I've got it replaced and it's working fine now.

HOw did you about that? I went to the Lenovo support forums and a senior agent replied as follows:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-Z/MOTO-Z-battery-life-terrible/m-p/3927759#M4349
Only one day but after deleting the cache partition, today's usage is much better - almost 14 hours.
However battery health is only 90% which seems low.
If you follow accubattery recommendations you should keep your phone ideally between 40-70% or at most 20-80% and don't ever let it run to zero unless you're recalibrating the battery and don't charge it to 100%. My Z Force is from August 2016 is at 95%, but even with that there's been a reduction in battery life.

I went to a local repair shop and paid something about 50$ to get it replaced.
I was playing a Daydream VR game that froze up and had to hold the power button to restart. Battery was around 70%, when the phone restarted it showed around 15%. My battery has been downhill since. This was last week. Today I have my phone plugged in charging with the Incipio battery back on and both showed 100% with the phone on. Powered the phone off while still plugged in and the power off screen shows the mod as 100% but my phone battery shows 78% and will continues showing 78% after 15 minutes of charging. Powered it back on and the mod is still at 100% and the phone battery is at 78%. Not sure whats going on. Accubattery shows 57% health after about a week of use. I have a battery replacement ordered...
First signs of the phone going to catch fire like my Z force did.
Took an update and it caused massive issues. Battery life was horrible and started to over heat. Not long later sitting at the Android set up screen about 1% battery drain per minute. Motorola said it's normal and no issues. Phones frame was getting to 90c again Motorola said ots normal and withen spec. Then other caught fire. Can't comment any more due to legal process. I'm just posting stuff I already have when I first seen the issues.
Be careful. Lucky at that point I was charging my phone in a metal pot. So if you see a huge battery drain and start to see overheating and reboots keep it in a metal pot. The pot is what saved my house from burning down.

I think that the incipio mod is the problem, O noted the same behavior using the mod, some weeks ago I purchased the turbo mod and it works better than the incipio.

I'm having the very same problem and will send the phone in for battery replacement.
Hundreds of users are complaining over there in the Lenovo Forums about this problem that came with 7.1.1.
Motorla recommended one user to clear the cache partition, but I don't think this will finally solve the 7.1.1 problems.
Let's wait for a software fix from Lenovo/Motorola or hope for Android 8.0/OREO
I think It's from some weird bug from 7.1.1
I got this problem after flashed 7.1.1 and now, it's in the warranty for battery replacement :/
and with my experience, nothing will fix if you flash back to 7.0.0
Check this too:

I replaced my battery. Before the battery would give 1.5-2 hours screen on time (57 percent drain an hour). Now I'm getting 4-5 hours of screen on time (17 percent drain an hour). Both measurements are on the same Android version 7.1.1 and same settings
