as I live in an area with bad signal I am specifically interested in comments on the g5 performance in such environments, especially compared with other phones.
thanks for all sort of input!

Comparing to
Samsung. Note 4 and 5
Lg G4
Samsung galaxy s4 and s5
I have all of them tested against
Lg G5
And Lg G5 will have 1-2 bars where other phones will not pick anything....
So definitely Snapdragon X16 LTE modem is real winer in reception side from other phones
I have also confirmed Band 12 working on T mobile
In Detroit area at my house now I hit 126 mb/s with this device where Note 4 and Lg g4 are close with 119 mb/s

One handy App is LTE Discovery.....that will give all information on how well two phones are competing against....
I do have two phones that I use non stop and I travel all over USA
LG G4
LG G5
And LG G5 is so far best of all phones with internal antenna that preform like ?

Ok i have sprint, im hearing great things for all carriers regarding signal strength
Two days with EE in UK with my Z2 and G5, no difference usual but on odd occasion when Z2 is no signal I get one bar on G5. Thumbs up from me.
i am from india, here i am using Jio carrier, i am getting very low coverage in G5, whereas my Moto x play was getting fairly good coverage.
My G5 is getting too hot and battery is draining fast with Jio

People I would really appreciate your feedback on this, during the past 3 weeks I have noticed that my download speeds had been drastically slow even when I have 4G and speed test coming back on results over 4MB download per second I see this is mostly during some times of the day, late at night it is fine, as an example when I tried to download an app from the market or as well when I'm using my phone as a hot spot it takes over a minute to download 2 MB of data. I have unlimited data and my friend my cousin and his wife are having the same issue, I was having it on my S3 now on my S4, my friend and cousin on their Note 2 and my cousins wife on her iphone 5 we all have unlimited data and now we are wondering if verizon is playing a dirty trick on us.... does anybody here are seeing this problem? are you unlimited or limited? I have called Verizon and they say they are only throttling 3G, not on 4G I already did their stupid apps deletes and resets factory resets etc etc, and I don't want to root my S4 yet in case they blame it on the phone and want me to exchange it.
Thanks,
A worried data devourer
I've got unlimited and use about 50gb-200gb a month. No throttling. Chicago.

I am also having this problem, especially when I download apps in the market. I never had any problems with my S3. I wonder if it is due to the new NFC SIM. I am going to verizon and asking them for the regular sim and see if it solves the problem. I really hope it is not the phone. Also I used to get full 4G signal at home, now I get only 4 bars, it even drops to 3 sometimes.
I don't know what an nfc sim is but I'm running the s4 using the same sim card i had in my galaxy nexus since it first came out. So if that's not an nfc sim...

I noticed the speed fluctuations when the Google play store started with the new updates. It would be with various apps updating and it would be on the network and it was also affecting speeds while on WiFi. It would take 5 min to download a 2 MB file that should only take a few seconds. I do not think the throttle is through the carrier but it may be on the google servers depending on which one you are connected to. I noticed recently that it has gotten better but there could be maintenance going on that is slowing down services and also with the weather around the country there could by bypasses going on that can affect downloads. Just my guess.
Just popped my sim into the galaxy nexus still experienced slower speeds. Maybe the weather or some other factor is at play

It might just be your location. If anyone in the range of the cell tower your phone is connected to is using a lot of bandwidth or it is heavily populated with 4G users, you will feel the effects of it. Have you replicated it in a completely different area that's less populated and is greater than 5 miles away?
No. Only relative to same location in the past. Will try new places as i move through the world

Well I kind of doubt it would be the location, the reason is because I work traveling and during this past two weeks I was in Rock Hill SC near Charlotte NC, and Duluth GA near Atlanta, and was experiencing the same issues mmmmmm
Verizon does not throttle you. I'm currently using unlimited 4G and have been using unlimited since it first came out. They have not once throttled me.

Verizon only throttles 3g and only when the tower being used is overloaded. During my year and a half with them I have never been throttled. I mostly always get 4g and I always pull about 15mbps and 1-2 on 3g

Hey guys! Soon I'll be buying a G2 outright. I'm on Telus in Canada and I'm just wondering if it really matters what variant I buy. I see a few different models available to buy unlocked and just wanna be sure there's no big difference for me which one I buy.
I suppose if they'll all work just fine, then I should go with the best dev supported model....if there is one.
Thanks for any input.

All the phones in Canada are the D803 version but I got mine through Wind Mobile which is the D801 and came factory unlocked.
Software versions between the 2 are different as well but I'm not sure what is different.
I'm not sure if there are any major differences between the Canadian models but things I saw through xda are that my D801 from Wind is missing the 3rd mic located by the flash. I haven't tried it yet, but I read that this affects the audio zoom function by rendering it barely recognizable and/or useless.
Also, not sure if you would care (but matters to me) is that I am unable to set my D801 LG G2 camera to mute without rooting and flashing another rom.
Thanks! So 803 may be best then. I see just about all the variants available. So maybe I'll focus on the 803.
I'm really hoping signal strength is better than my S2. I gotta go outside where I live to talk or text. Lol

I recently purchased a Galaxy note Edge for my daughter and rooted it to enable the Hotspot. Found out the Note Edge with Sprint Spark is single Antenna device. So, if the Hotspot is enabled and your using it to run a laptop. Then at the same time you receive a phone call it drops the Hotspot internet connection.
In other words you cannot receive calls and data at the same time. The Note 4, Note 5, Note Edge, S6, and S6 Edge all have a single antenna. The Note 3 is the last Samsung device to send and receive data and phone calls at the same time. Just another reason I still run a Note 3 . :good:

Please correct me if I am mistaken. However, my wife has a Note Edge which i rooted for her and I have the Note 3 (which I love) and she can get data while on a call. Simple test we did was for her to call me and then simply leave me talking while she surfs the web. She was able to do it multiple times as well as receive email too. She can do data while on a call. Does this mean that she has a dual antenna? Is there another test which I should perform further prove data and voice working simultaneously? Thanks again,

No I'm afraid not. The antenna is hardware not software they are all built with one antenna. Was the device on 3g or 4g lte or WiFi ? With sprint spark I know you can surf the net while on a phone call with a 4g lte signal. I don't know if this is true if the device is on a 3g signal, will try it on my daughters note edge once I can get the phone back ( young girls and cell phones need I say more ). What the device will not do is with the hotspot activated ( meaning the phone is being used as a wireless router running internet to a laptop ). If a call is received the hotspot internet connection is dropped.
With my note 3 I have been on the phone talking, surfing the net, and had some one using the hotspot for a laptop all at the same time a truly remarkable device.
Thanks for getting back to me. I have been able to go on with both LTE and 3G while on call and surfing. I see what you mean now about the hotspot as a router. I remember the days of doing that with my HTC EVO 4G LTE (sorry I regress). I will try the hotspot later today. Thanks again and i agree a great and versatile phone we own in the Note 3. It will be very hard for me to give up this phone for another. My son uses my old Note 2 and he loves it.

I get it home and at work. Here in CT we received a pretty decent wimax rollout and so far Sprint has transitioned to TDD LTE pretty quickly too. I live in Hartford and pull a good 50-70 mbps but omw to work in Manchester is where it really flies pulling almost 100 mbps. Also VOLTE will be coming someday so calls and data will be possible. On top of that they're also going to turn on 3x Carrier Aggregation and also bring CA to their other LTE bands. Older phones can't take advantage of those perks. I would only rock to a Note 3 or older phone if Spark is still absent in my market which isn't.

I talk and surf all the time on my Sprint Note 3 with a S6 rom ....WiFi turned off. I'm Lovin It.
I filed a complaint to the FCC about AT&T and their decision to not provide VoLTE or WiFi calling for my capable device. They stuck to their guns because it requires customers to only buy phones through them, through their payment plan program which attaches you to them contractually until paid in full for a $750 phone that's obsolete in 18 months. Considering Google Fi now. The end.
Do you not have good cellular coverage with AT&T?

I think perhaps it would be a wiser move to shop for a carrier with better service in your basement than to file a FCC complaint in which the FCC has no control over.

Unfortunately I'm on 7 phone family plan and don't want to inconvenience my family. ATT was very prompt in getting back to me on the complaint, accept and admit that what I'm asking for is reasonable, but still only allow their branded phones to have these features. I will probably switch my number to Google Fi once they offer VoLTE and update their data plans to compete with the unlimited plans that have been rolled out. Filing the FCC complaint got their attention and the cummalitive effect of people like me doing so could one day sway them in the future.
I did my part by going through every avenue available to me. Ultimately what will sway them is dollars and cents. Maybe with enough FCC complaints and enough people switching to other providers they will wake up.
