For the few days I've had my G5 I've noticed that this phone charges extremely slow when connected to a computers USB Port. Now I'm not stupid, and I realize that USB ports don't draw that much power at all. The reason Im concerned is that my old G2 on the exact same PC USB port probably charges almost twice as fast at least. Anyone know what might be going on? The cable should be fine, I'm using this: http://www.amazon.com/Cable-TechMatte-USB-C-Nexus-Black/dp/B01706YAXY . Thanks in advance.
Mine charged super slowly on USB as well, using the stock charger. I hadn't yet plugged it into the wall so I wasn't "used to" faster charging yet. That said I'd have to do a side-by-side with my G3 to really see.

Yea was just a bit confused since you said stock "charger". Don't know why this is happening.
A quick google didn't reveal anything about QC 2.0 charging slower on computers than regular chargers. Since you have the stock cable too, have you compared those two to see if your amazon cable is the culprit?

Can you download the app Ampre and tell me what the charge rate is? mine is fluctuating between 50mA to 740mA while plugged in to a SS (SuperSpeed) USB and max of 200mA while plugged into a regular USB. This a very good app to determine the quality of a wall charger. It will give you the Max USB current that the phone detects. I'm using original cord with phone.

There probably isn't a problem at all. The reason it seems your G2 charged faster is because it's battery is smaller than the one in your G5.

Wow....seriously? That's odd.
I charged mine for a bit today off a MacBook Pro (retina) and of course, it was slower than the wall charger and reported as charging "slowly" but the % it was increasing by was as I would expect and similar to that of the Nexus 5X. This was with the screen off. Did you have your screen on at all while charging? One thing I noticed with the 5X was that if you're using the phone or just have the screen on then the mA that the phone pulls from a computer USB massively dropped for some reason.
I guess the screen was on for some of the time. But there were whole hours where it wasn't. It think it was probably on plugged into the computer for like 3 hours, and got maybe 15% tops.
I used Ampere to check this against my G2 at home. Both were pulling the same amount, somewhere around 150-200 on average. Don't know, maybe its all in my head, but 3Hrs for 15% seems super slow even for a pc usb 2.0 port.
Yes that is normal
USB tops out at 500mah while 3.0 USB tops pit at 800mah I think
Could it be a false positive? You know that some devices report different charges... My old device had 100% show until it hit 95, then after it would stabilize. Charging could be the same. A lot of devices report charges at different rates at different parts of the battery... Regardless, usb charging has always been slow. It also depends if it's purely charging or also allowed to connect and sync. Then there is a difference as well... Many many factors to look into, honestly.

Most laptops will only out out 0.5a per pair of ports. Desktop can put out more of course. Compare that to your included charger with 1.8a, or a normal 1a charger, big difference. And if you have the phone awake, it pretty much isn't going to go up lol

Hmmm, this is a weird one guys.
I can charge my X10 only if it is plugged in to the USB port via the computer. However, when it is plugged directly into the power socket, it does not charge. Now, I've tried two different chargers, and both work when charging another device (my iPod Touch).
I don't understand. The cord can't be broken, since it works when charging from my computer? Yet, the charger (the thing that plugs into the wall) can't be broken either, since another charger didn't work and also both have the ability to charge my iPod.
What's up? :S
Thanks in advance.
NOTE: Even when charging while off works on the computer, just not when it's plugged in (and I am not using a custom kernel either). I doubt the ROM matters (since it still has the above problem while charging when off), but even so, I'm using v061 of Wolfbreak's 6.1.3 ROM.
Bump bump, bump it up!
Do you use the original SE in-wall charger? If not, thats the problem, if yes I recomend to test with a different wall charger (eg. from another device)
May be the cable it faulty? Because the PC charging uses a less amount of Volts (to my knowledge) and the charging while connected to PC is very slow. Did you try with any other Official cable?
It could possibly be your cable as mine broke a few weeks back (Same Problem), I just replaced the cable now its fine
Guys :-/
Went out and bought a new cable, and still not charging from the power Only from the slower laptop USB port :'(
I think it may be the X10 itself..

Rockdale? 6 weeks?! Not going that far. :-/ I can live with just charging from the PC at the moment.
Thanks though Sad news indeed
Is is still under warranty? It will eventually stop charging from the PC too. I was waiting for parts to arrive so maybe they have them in stock now. That was 6 weeks from melbourne and back.
Going through the same thing in the US. I was told repair would be 5-7 days, but I'm sure I'm looking longer. If it comes back within the time frame they gave me I will be pleasantly surprised. I hope you're still under warranty and do your self the favor and send it in or soon you will have a very expensive paper weight. Good Luck!
I went through the exaxt same thing. It stopped charging from the wall but could only charge from computer but eventually stopped charging altogether.
Did you try taking out the battery and plugging in with the original se microusb cabe to the wall. After 5 min. put the battery in. First time didnt work for me but then i took out the battery again and put it back in immediately and then it turned on.

Out of curiosity, how long before each of your X10's stopped charging altogether? :S
Because, for me, it's been longer than two months and throughout that time I've managed to keep charging it via the computer.
Thanks.

I've 3 usb-to- chargers here:
From a MP20 phone, generic charger that can't charge my phone and also can't charge most of other devices, output power and voltage are low.
From an old Ipaq(not ipad) it does charge my x10 for some reason takes longer than the original, it says on it 1000mA and 5V, I don't remember the real amp and voltage on it.
And the original one, always charge really fast(2 hours for a full 0 to 100% when the phone is ON)
Conclusion, buy and original charger if you not using one, which seems to be the case.
OR, update your baseband if possible, as battery issues are normally related to baseband are normally the cause of this errors.
To make sure you can always try to do a SEUS repair.

Sorry to say this, but your are wrong man.
My charger says 5.0V which is exact the same voltage as any USB ports(exception for some internal USB ports used commonly for bluetooth and other low consumption devices that use 3.0 to 3.3V).
The difference is mainly on the amount of power amp it can supply, the original usb cable + wall charger provides 700mA, while in the PC USB 2.0 ports provide 500mA, 1.0 USB provide 100mA and 1.1 I don't remember now, generic usb wall chargers say sometimes they provide 500mA but they mostly provide 30l0mA and sometimes they do not provide on 5.0V they oscillate between 4.6 to 5.2V a good usb port have to provide 4.95V to 5.1V any difference from this may even burn a phone if higher and not charge or reduce a battery life if too lower.
Everytime a battery is not charged up the end of 100% they battery life gets a bit reduce as next time even if you leave it to charge up to 100% it won't really be at 100%, this can only be seen by measuring the battery voltage after the charge, fully charge it must reach up to 4.7V
on the battery or something like this.

If the cable is too thin(like 1.0 usb cables they can't handle 500mA if connected to an already extended usb port it may not get recognized and also not even charge.
Laptops usb ports may not allow 500mA it different for every laptop, some work, some doesn't and others your have to set that on bios.

Lately I began doing some gaming on my GS2 and this has happended to me twice now. one time while playing tiny tower and once on dungeon hunter. I will play with the phone plugged into my pc charging and the battery eventually drains. Is it possible that the games are actually using more juice than it's recharging? I'm currently running latest Unamed Rom.
More that the pc can't charge it quick enough. Wall chargers put out roughly twice the power of a pc usb port.

Its more like 50% more, since the charging for usb is ~440mA, and wall socket is 650mA. Also even at 650mA, at overclocked loads, the battery will still drain...
Damn. Thanks guys! I just ordered a few more batteries and wall charger.
I remember when I had my Captivate playing and recharging at the same time would make the back scorching hot. I bet this phone could do the same so I stray away from doing anything while charging it.
i noticed the same thing while charging via usb and using the phone at the same time. the phone will show that its charging and yet the battery is still dying. I chalked that up to the USB charger not having enough juice to charge it while in use.
as soon as I stop using it, the battery charges fine

Strange. It should be the other way around. USB 2.0 sockets push 500mah which isnt enough to charge the S while the wall chargers provided are 800/850. Perhaps a dud socket? Try another and if not your charger is fúcked.

For me it discharges faster than it charges. It may charge off yours but typically it'll be very slow or not at all. Some ports push more AFAIK, but the standard is 500max.
I also noticed that, if I have WiFi on, the phone actually discharges when connected to the PC (when used anyway).
I don't know how much current is provided though, never measured it.
If charging through USB is fine then it might be that the charger is shorting the battery + and - through some resistance.
Try another charger and see if it helps , and replace the faulty one. You don't want to break your battery.
On my laptop usb port it will charge just fine. Slower than the normal charger but it does work.
On my desktop pc otoh it drains more than it charges. So there probably is a difference in output on the usb ports.

If you were using "front ports" these are often underpowered compared to ones mounted on the mobo(back of case, or all laptop ones).
I connect my phone via my front ports and it charged just fine actually...
I am behind the computer quite a bit and my phone keeps its battery and charges when attached, even when I'm installing a bunch of apps (I tend to browse the market via my browser and pick up apps as i go) I still don't discharge...
It could be a voltage issue with your ports, but with my frontal ports I notice no problems...but anyways, this isn't about the ports, this is about the OP's charger.
To me, it seems like your charger is faulty.
Hi,
I wrote about a similar issue I was having with the phone discharging when connected to USB.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1573336
From what I could tell in my tests that I did the issue is when the phone is connected to the PC and THEN the PC goes into Standby mode. Even on a powered USB hub the phone charging mechanism does not reset correctly and continue charging but begins discharging.
I would have loved if someone else could have tried to reproduce what I wrote in that thread but no one responded. For me the only solution is to charge directly with the AC power and not through the USB as my PC goes in and out of standby regularly.
Phone charghed with USB will drain batery faster then phone charged with wall charghed.
It was thread in xperia arc about that, the test bring that conlcution.
So i recomend to charge with wall for better batery efecienty.

Make sure the charger is 2.1 amp...if its a 1 amp, the combo of GPS, data, and screen on will still kill it.

I had this problem starting all the way back on Galaxy Nexus - crappy chargers and cables do not provide enough power to run the phone and the screen. My research and trial and error on many chargers lead me to understand that not only do you need a good high power charger, you need a good cable too. I now run 18awg charge-only cables exclusively as well as a 2.1amp charger. This pair has worked on all my devices since including fast charging on my G2 and G3.
Note that a charge-only USB cable has the data pair shorted and will only work for charging - will not work for data transfer. However the wires inside are thick and work great cars or other situations where you don't need the cable for data.
This is what I use:
Cable

Charger

This company is from Hong Kong, but they have pretty fast shipping. It is the only place where I can find (affordable) heavy gauge USB cables.

Even though you can try to use that battery with wireless charging it won't fix your slow charging rate. Wireless charging goes max to 0.6 A (600 ma) when it comes to charging. So it's 1/3 the speed of your regular wall socket charger.

Something is wrong with your charger or cable then. My ZL charged from ~78%-100% in about an hour last night. The plug adapter that came with the phone and a USB cable I've used for a while, from a Nook I think. Wireless will be VERY slow. It's fine for topping off, but if you drain it down you will want to use a wired charger. You can use a wireless charger with the ZL, there's some info in one of the threads talking about what you need to order. You can't use the contacts on the back of the phone for it, you need to use one of the low profile USB plug type.
If you want fast charging you need to use the adapter that came with your phone, or another known good adapter, and a good quality USB cable. It doesn't have to be USB3, a USB2 cable will work fine, but it needs to be good quality. Monoprice is a good place for inexpensive, but good quality cables.
If you are connecting to a computer USB port, you will charge slow unless it's a USB3 with a USB3 cable.

Try a usb 2.0 cable to charge it.
The little extra part for the 3.0 seems to have gone bad in my phone after only 4 months.
If I charge it with the cable that came with it, I have the results you are saying.
If I charge it with a 3 year old usb 2.0 style charger, it charges fine.
Good luck!
Get a usb voltage/current tester. They are like $10. You can test all your chargers and cords and find the under performers.
My phone with zerolemon charges fast with the original samsung charger, and my Asus t100 charger. Fast being relative, from 20% to full it can take 4 hours or so. I've never timed it 100%

Does your battery seem to die quicker right after you unplug it?

Yes, it drops to 97% straight away. This is because it drains in the background a little as the charger doesn't trickle charge. See this for an explanation http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/1...bump-charging-and-inconsistent-battery-drain/
