New LG g5 owner, somebody want to help me with BT issue? - LG G5 Questions & Answers

So I'll keep it short. Just got my phone yesterday, really like it, except for one major thing...it doesn't have any sort of communication with my sony car stereo. This isn't an old stereo either. Maybe a year old, maybe 2 years out on the market. It had no issues with my htc, or my girlfriends htc, or my friends samsung, but of course my new awesome phone that I love decides it wants nothing to do with my car. Can someone give me some ideas as to how to fix this? I put both into pairing "discovery" mode and neither saw the other one. Am I doomed to going back to the store and paying a restocking fee?

Sprint: Phone Replacement, Urgent PLease help!

Hey guys, I ran into quite a predicament today. As I was walking to work, I fell something fall out and slide half way across the parking lot. I felt me phone case (the crappy one that came with the phone), looked down on the ground and noticed it was my AWESOME Sprint Touch Pro. With the site of my phone moving in a hockey-like manner, I finished cursing and decided that I don’t want to have such an amazing phone looking like a piece of crap.
So here is where I am at. I need to get this phone fixed. I think that I might have a few options, but I want to know what you guys think. Originally, I bought this phone from a guy of Craigslist; it was $240, if you can believe it. Now, the phone had never been activated, so it was as if I was the original owner. Additionally, I never got a phone from sprint, but I am under contract. That means, according to sprint, that I am eligible for a new to get a new phone at anytime. Thus, I reach my questions and request for opinions.
Option 1 (least likely): Since the phone was never activated, can I still claim the 30-day phone guarantee from sprint? Meaning, can I return the phone as if it was defective?
Option 2 (What I will probably have to do): Should I buy a phone, get the equipment protection plan, and then process my touch pro as a defective phone. This seems like a relatively good idea, because I can get a phone pretty cheap (like the rant) and sell it on Ebay. So in the end, I make money off of this idea. The only down side is that my contract restarts, but I have only been with sprint for about four months. Also, I was going to save my free phone upgrade for next year so I could get a brand spanking new phone.
Option 3 (Don’t want to do this): Suck it up, and get a silicon case that covers the scratches. The scratches are only around the shiny part on the perimeter of the screen, which, by the way, says a lot about the quality of the screen.
Option 4 (Too much trouble): Sell it on eBay for as much as I can, and since it’s probable less than $300, put the rest out of pocket and buy a brand new touch pro from sprint.
Option 5 (Does it exits?): look for replacement housing. Since the phone is new, I don’t know if it’s even out there yet.
Thanks for all your input guys. I really hope to hear from some Sprint Reps or something. Meanwhile, I am going to try to sucker Sprint into helping me out.
P.S Yes, I know what I am doing is unethical, and that the phone is not really defective, thus I should not be returning it as defective.
I think I am having trouble understanding what happened. You have scratched your touch pro that you bought from someone else, I got that.
You never activated the phone on sprint? You should go ahead and put the phone one your account and get insurance immediately!
If you have only been with Sprint for 4 months how are you eligible for an upgrade?
If it is only chrome scratched my TP came like that. Look at the chrome around the keyboard section. At all 3 corners, excluding the Stylus one check for a "Seam" in the chrome, if it has this you can take it in and exchange at a Sprint store.
A scratched phone on Ebay will go for MUCH less than a regular one.
I am not here to tell you whether you are ethical or not, but you should exhaust all options that seem less unethical first before trying to make someone else pay for your mistake. That being said, I think everyone in the world would try to get a new phone for free, so I wouldn't feel too bad.
The phone is activated on sprint, but the person that sold it to me never activated it. It has been only a few days since I activated, can I still add the TEP? And are they going to charger a deductible, cuz they'll charge me $55 to fix it.
I am eligible for an upgrade cuz I never got a phone from sprint.
So if it has some defects I could take it back, even though I have no TEP? Unfortunately, the phone is flawless other than my stupid scratches.
TBH, I don't fell doing this to sprint. They have screwed me over many times over. This would just even it out.
If it is activated just go ahead and get insurance. You can add it anytime. They will charge deductible normally, but instead of telling them its because of scratches tell them you are experiencing poor battery life and that you can't hear anything in the speaker because it sounds like a tin can.
Oh, you never purchased a phone when you switched. I was confused. Thanks for clarification.
Look for those seams, almost every TP has them and they will switch for free without TEP. They are hard to notice but mine has em and I am going to switch soon.
They have screwed me repeatedly and I would be doing the same thing. Haha, I wasn't trying to preach in my post before.
Is there a grace period to get it? I thought it was like 30 days. Yea, I can lie to them, no problem. Though my bat life is amazing. play with it all day and never has died on me.
Can you direct me to a link to where this seams thingy is being discussed, or where the sources where u got this is at. I want to read some on it. Or maybe some pics, I didn't really know where to look.
Yea, well, they decided to renew my contract, and it said they had returned my deposit...I'm definitely going to use that against them.
To be honest, they have messed up so many times, I have only paid my full bill about 2 times.
I Heard my Sprint Rep. say that the insurance can only be added within the first 30 days.
So here is the rub....How do they know when you purchased it? Unfortunately logic would say that the insurance only applies to devices purchased directly from the carrier, but I hope I am wrong.

Unless they changed the policy, that's not true. I had a phone for 6 months before I added the insurance online through the My Account feature.
But it's possible that has been changed and no longer do able.
Guys Thanks for all your responses, they are very informative.
So Basically here, I am leaning towards trying to see if I can get insurance added. I don't know how hard of a task this will be, but I hope that they can be persuaded into helping me out.
If not, I will just get a cheap phone and sell it.
Again, I am aware of the ethical lines being crossed, but wit sprint, those lines seem almost unreal.
update (Sorry about the double post):
So to my surprise srpint sent this in an email:
Regarding the call from the technical department, I have forwarded your
concern to the appropriate department.
The handset on the account is under 30 day return period. You can visit
the nearest Sprint store and replace the handset.
Thank you again for contacting Sprint. Have a great day!

its 30 days from the day you activate the phone...so you can go to a sprint store or call customer service and add insurance
as a tech in a sprint affiliate store i WOULD NOT swap you out for free because of cosmetic damage. So you are looking at paying 50 through Asurion(the insurance company)

you cant return a phone you never purchased from a sprint store lol
Well, well see. I am going to request a return kit from them, as they said that they would do. If not, then what ever.
BTW, the phone doesn't look like its been dropped or has any cracks. The excuse, "Its been in my pocket with my keys," would fly without a hitch.
We shall see what happens.
Sorry man, haven't been around the Computer. I had insurance on my touch I bought off of ebay. I had ins on my phone before and when I activated the phone it just went ahead and switched it over to my touch. So you should be fine adding it.
You can probably send it to them, but what are they going to give you back? You paid them $0 for the phone, so be careful, that may be what they give you.
Here is the site you requested talking about the chrome seams.

Yea, as I thought, I don't have that problem on my phone.
So if I understand your correctly, you bought a phone from Ebay, and added insurance to it?
Sorry about double post. I just added TEP, took it in. Told them about some errors, no lies. Just some stuff that happens with the phone. Of course I know its normal, but they didn't know that. They gave me a brand new TP, and let me keep the old battery.

Speaker Crackling

I noticed since the first day that I got my Sprint Htc Hero 2 days ago that there is some crackling coming from the speaker that I hold up to my ear. Everyone that I talk to can hear my fine and I can hear them fine as well but there's a faint crackling that's annoying me like crazy. I'm wondering if I have a defective phone. I'm planning on taking it to a Sprint store tomorrow to see if I may need to get it swapped for another one. Anyone else have this problem?
Problem Resolved
Today I went to a Sprint store to have the phone swapped for a brand new one. Fortunately with relatively minor problems I was able to get it swapped for a brand new one. I didn't find anyone else posting about this problem online so it must have just been a fluke. Oh well, I def love the Sprint Htc Hero and hope not to have any problems with this one because I'm not going to exchange it a 3rd time. If that happens I will be going to something else.

[Q] Replacement after 3rd crappy Vibrant

Just looking for some first hand experience, or tips from a T-Mobile employee. I was just told by TMo that if this Vibrant fails me (being my 3rd one), I'll be able to get a completely different phone.
I have every intention of calling them in the next couple of days to kindly let them know that the GPS isn't working as intended, of course. I just did a road trip to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and my GPS failed me over and over (yes, I've done all of the fixes known to man) while my Garmin Nuvi worked flawlessly, as usual.
So, anyone know what my options will be? Since I paid $199.99 to extend my contract for this POS, I feel that I should be offered any of their smartphones at that price, but really have no idea as to how this works.
Thanks in advance!
You can get alot
As long as you are clear in your point and sound like you know what you are talking about you should be fine.
I went through this right when the sensation came out.
I got one for free and got to keep my vibe by signing a 2 year with customer loyalty. They sent me tbe sensation and it had touchscreen isues so back it went and I went through 2 alltoghether.
It wasnt a bad phone but I missed my im on it again now.
samsung
If you really like not having a heavy phone (sensation was like a weight haha) or the phone with a million issues the g2x.
I'd stick it out just 2 more months tops and we will have the htc ruby/amaze 4g and the tmobile galaxy s2 "hercules" both are rumored to be on tmos 42 mps network which os way more than double our current max of 14.4
Thanks for the response! That's a good point... I'll wait until some better phones are released here soon and then call to get my replacement. No point in doing it now since the selection isn't all that great.
Yea its funny how there are so many levels of "top teir" devices that out can be hard to keep track of. I can say I'll be way happier with a lighter phone with a more visible screen outdoors anf that they won't know my warranties gone because I used the same oems software of who made the phone. I think brand presence aside that the 42mps is worth the wait. i live in the mpls area and tmobile is very sttong here for signal so im excited for that chip.
In the meantime time try using the custom rom toxic crazy 8 with the clean and shiny theme. I put it on a guy I work withs vibrant and now he is wayyy happier with his phone that ever before. He even stopped talking about needing a new phone all the time hah

Beats earbuds with replacement?

So I was having 4G connectivity issues with my Thunderbolt and after complaining, Verizon gave me a choice of the Razr or the Rezound. I went for the Rezound with the expectation that they'd send me the Beats earbuds as well. To my surprise they said that the earbuds were not included in the replacement.
Has anyone had any similiar experience and gotten different results? Just to be clear, this was a replacement NOT an upgrade.
Hoping I might get some thoughts on whether they were supposed to send me the buds or not.
Thanks.

No you're not supposed to get the earbuds
Whenever they replace a rezound, with another, it is just the phone. No sd card, no back, no battery, and no beats. If you get any of these, you are probably lucky. There is even a thread about warranty replacement of the earbuds, and they didn't get beats as a replacement. You might try to get another rep, and see if they will. Best of luck.

Nah no beats unless you already had some and are getting those replaced.
Rezzy
Got my Rezound as a warranty replacement for my droid charge. All I received was the phone, battery, and back cover. Everything I've seen indicates there's no chance of getting beats headphones as well.

Same here, got my Samsung Stratosphere replaced with a Rezound and no ear buds, but they are pretty straight-forward about it that you will only get the bare phone, battery and back cover may even come in a seperate shipment. This is normal, you didn't get screwed (well, not just because of lack of earbuds!).
Although, my Rezound for work was brand new and came with iBeats headphones, but work didn't really need them... needless to say, they never made it to the office the day I got the phone.

What went wrong with your Stratosphere that you got to get a Rezound.....if you don't mind my asking? Was it warranty replacement, or insurance? It's because I need to file a claim for my son's stratosphere, just wanted to see if it was possible to get something else.

Warranty replacement, but it is actually a little more complicated than that... I started with an HTC Incredible 2, I loved it and had no issues with it for a long time then all of the sudden it thought it was stuck in the dock all the time meaning every call went to speakerphone. Well, several factory resets and some time at the VZW store yielded a warranty replacement, except they didn't have any Inc2's anymore... anywhere (funny how the local store I was standing in had them though) so I was told I had to take a Samsung Stratosphere or send the device into HTC myself, so I took the Strat.
The Stratosphere worked fine for a couple weeks, then started randomly rebooting in-calls, especially if the far end would disconnect first, it never rebooted any other time but it happened in calls frequently enough that every call I answered or made the first thing I would do is warn the other end we might get disconnected and it was my phone. VZW replaced the SIM, no change. Factory default, no change. So by this time I was really irritated with the Samsung, especially after finding out the Strat wouldn't be updated to ICS like my old phone, so I called tech support again, and after two hours of complaining/whining/*****ing to three different levels of tech support, it got me a Rezound which I have been happy with ever since (I had this phone as a work phone since shortly after launch, so I knew what I was looking for).
So, in short, it was a lot more than just my Stratosphere died and they sent me a Rezound, usually to change phone models with VZW you have have to go through several replacements first.
Thanks for the feedback gang. Guess I feel a little better about not getting the headphones but now I gotta wonder if I made the right choice in taking the Rezound over the Razr. It's working well (even if it is a refurb) and I love the screen so I guess it's not too big a deal.
Honestly, the iBeats earbuds are nice, but other than the name I don't think I would say they are any better than a mid-priced (around $40-$50) set of earbuds from Wal-Mart or Target, grab a pair of Sony, SkullCandy, Sennheiser, iFrogz or whatever your favorite flavor is and you will likely be just as happy.
Although, I just keep a couple $20 pairs around because I know I will ruin them periodically by snagging them on something when I am working, or smashed in my computer bag, dropped in the parking lot, etc. etc. etc... I only use the iBeats when it is relatively "safe".
Assurion replaced my HTC Thunderbolt with a brand new HTC Rezound... which of course included the beats headphones surprisingly. It was a warranty replacement not an insurance replacement so I didn't have to pay any deductible. I guess I got lucky.

Asurion doesn't handle the warranty exchanges. You probably had a rep order you a new Rezound and a sup approved it. Asurion generally gives brand new in box w/ deductible.

Dude... I think I know the difference between Assurion and Verizon Wireless. Assurion gives a one year warranty on all of their equipmemt. The Thunderbolt I had was a refurbished Assurion device.

[Q] I'm about to pick a fight w/ Sprint. What would you do?

Last week my wife and I bought a Prius with a Bluetooth enabled radio. The radio almost tripped over itself (exaggeration) to identify her iPhone 4S but my EVO got no love . I'm not sure if Bluetooth has ever worked on my LTE because in the six months that I've had it have never needed to use it. I think I tested it with my iPad a few months ago and it identified it but nothing more. My iPad quickly BTs to other devices so I assumed my LTE was the problem but didn't bother to look into it because I didn't rely on it.
Now I have this BT car stereo and I really want to use it but my LTE just won't work. After Googling a bunch of things I assumed that Jelly Bean+EVO LTE might be incompatible with my car's BT. My brother's Samsung SIII (w/ JB) won't pick up the stereo either. The salesman's POS clamshell picked up BT right away "CAR AUDIO" as did another Android device with Froyo that I had laying around.
I called Sprint and explained what I'd done and that I reset the phone to factory specs and basically started from scratch--still, no BT love. They were satisfied with my assessment and agreed to send me another LTE for a $35 restocking fee. I agreed because I don't think about those things until later and I just wanted my phone to work. My new LTE arrived and it has ICS (2.13.651.1 - Android 4.0.4). I immediately tested and it works with my BT enabled car stereo--just like my wife's iPhone.
So... did the JB update from last month (when updated it) break BT on my phone? If so, why should I pay a $35 restocking fee for something that Sprint pushed? I could've opted not to get it but I didn't know. There are actually a few things that no longer work on my LTE since that JB update. I think Bluetooth, the call screen does this strange flicker when I hold the phone up and I can't tell if I'm on the phone or not--it never did that before and it shreds my battery life.
[Q] Should I ask Sprint to waive the $35 restocking fee?
[Q] My phone should work perfectly with JB. If I update my present LTE and JB breaks it, does Sprint owe me another phone? (because this time I'm getting an iPhone until they get the bugs worked out of JB)

I've read through similar bug lists on other EVO sites on the net (while Googling for known errors) although not this one. Nothing's perfect--I'm a programmer and I know how these things go but at least Sprint shouldn't get bent out of shape when we root phones to try take control of these issues. My LTE is the first Android device that I did not root but stuff like this makes me want to root this phone too.
I recently purchased some bluetooth headphones made by Motorola the rockers the latest and greatest brand new ones. I went to pair them with both of my devices my wife's and mine. It literally took 6 tries in order for me to get my device to pair with my phone before my phone would pair with any device and search for devices without any hesitation. It seems now with the new update anytime I pair a new device such as my brand new Bose Soundlink to system or my Kenwood Bluetooth stereo it takes in an exorbitant amount of tries to get it to work correctly. I guess what I'm saying is I have noticed this also.

What year Prius is it? I have an 04 and it works fine even with the JB. My sister also has the EVO LTE and an 07 Prius and BT works fine on her car too. It does take awhile to pair the two though I noticed.

This is good to read because I've only read the opposite. It's a 2012 Prius C (two). I too did a factory reset after the JB update but still would not work.
I will have to add though that our Prius models do not have BT Radio for music like yours. Only BT for phone calls.
Prius
This is simple.. Buy a new car to fix the problem.. All joking aside I can connect to my pioneer deck through blue tooth after the Jb update.. I'd ask them to waive the $35 fee and send them the replacement phone back.

I think you're in the right to ask for the fee to be waived, it's not a loss for them really, amd they didn't solve your problem. I suggest taking it up with HTC as well, It's their bogus radios that have been causing problems since the 13th of december.

This and the fact that FoxFi will not work on JB are why I'm happily using ICS still. I will not upgrade.

I notice that my HTC LTE on ICS had an issue connecting to my 2010 F150 using BT. Could pair it but lots of times when I enter the truck or turn the BT on, the stereo/phone don't pair up. Had to go to setting under BT and click connect before it would pair with the stereo.
During the upgrade to JB, my phone locked up and got a new one from the Sprint store. Was hoping that JB would have fixed this issue, but the new phone with JB still does the same. It is possible that the OP issue was related to an issue with the phone, as much as to the upgrade to JB, since JB now does work.
So back to your question. You agreed to paying the $35. You can ask as suggested, worst they can say is no.
You might have been better going to the Sprint store for support and see if they could have helped you before RMAing your phone. Lesson learned from working on PCs is to swtich items until the broken device works and the device that was working breaks to determine the issue. If you could have gotten a technician on a slow day, they could have maybe worked with you using a store phone to see where the issue truly belonged, on the phone or the OS.
Dont spend too much time fighting it. Esp since bt connects to your car now.

Yeah, that's probably what I'm going to do. There are too many problems with JB anyway so I won't update my phone.

I had a lot of problems when I was on CM, was about to take it in to sprint and updated everything to the latest so they wouldn't complain that it was a version thing, now my LTE connects to my FR-S. I'd say I'm happy but using it without the ID3 tag information is infuriating. If it weren't for Google Music I seriously would stop using android, especially since Sprint never gets a good nexus device on time.
