How can I make Remix OS the only OS on my laptop? - Remix OS for PC

I am trying to set up several old laptops for 5th and 6th grade students to use this summer. I would like to set up the laptops to boot only Remix OS. Can someone please steer me to a tutorial for this? I would like to have a single partition.

(I haven't tried this so I might be misspoken)
Create a bootable usb; and either find the grub entry (grub.cfg for UEFI; menu.lst for legacy bios)
and add a INSTALL=* entry. It doesn't matter what you put here, as long as INSTALL has a value.
Or boot the usb and edit the boot entry when you get to the Resident / Guest screen adding the INSTALL=* as above.
This should start an installer of sorts and you should be able to format the harddrive and all from there.
Again, I haven't ran it this way; but that should be essentially how it should work.
Hopefully someone who has will confirm.

Yes, gparted is live from usb

I have deleted all partitions on the hard drive. Now I want to install Remix OS on the hard drive and boot up from the hard drive. I'm computer literate but I need help with this. I know many others would like to have clear guidance. Can anyone help?

I'd format the drives as ext4; then boot the usb adding the INSTALL=1 to the grub. And go from there.
You should be able to format to ext4 with the usb as well: adding DEBUG=1 and running make_ext4 /dev/block/sda or whatever the drive is.

OK here is what I tried:
OK I tried the following:
1. Booted on Remix USB
2. Entered <TAB> at screen
3. Erased last part of the line including "quiet"
4. Entered INSTALL=1
5. Pressed <ENTER>
6. At screen to "Choose Partition" selected Create/modify selected sda
7. At screen "Use GPT" selected Yes
8. At screen to select partition Selected Partition 4 (this was the Windows partition)
9. Selected <Write> partition table
10.Selected 0700 (MS basic data)
11.Formated Partition 4 FAT32
12.When asked to "Install GRUB?" <Skip>
13.When asked to "Install EFI GRUB2?" <Skip>
14."Install /System image RW?" <Yes>
15."Installing Android-x86" Write 2629012 KB 0% to 100% displayed
16.At prompt "Create Disk Image to save user data?" <Yes>
17."Max size set to 2047
18."Creating data.img"
19."Syncing to disk"
20."Run Android x86 or Reboot?" <Run>
21. Remix logo and loads. Setup completed.
22. On reboot the boot process wasn't present, went to "Recovery" screen????
What should I do differently?

Try this step,

When I get to choose a partition screen I can't hit the OK button or scroll or even hit the cancel button?

At the select partition screen I cant hit the OK button

Change value"androidboot.hardware=remix_x86_64 to remix_x86" if u use 32 bit remix os

[GUIDE]Run RemixOS without making changes to bootloader

This GUIDE was originally made for those with a 64-bit processor but 32-bit UEFI Windows installation. But it didn't work for any of them. However, those who don't like to make changes to their Windows Bootloader may follow this guide now, since this method enables you to use a CD or DVD too!
This guide is divided into two parts -
1. grub4dos guide using EasyBCD
2. Super GRUB2 Disk Guide
Using Super Grub2 Disk-
*Create a folder named "RemixOS" in the root directory of any of your partitions. If you had used the Official RemixOS Installation Tool before this guide, the directory may already be created. Important: Backup your data.img by moving to some other directory. Use UninstallRemixOS.exe to remove the current installtion.
1. Copy and paste the folder efi and the the following files from your RemixOS ISO to "RemixOS" folder you created earlier-
-initrd.img
-install.img
-kernel
-ramdisk.img
-system.img
*data.img, if you had installed RemixOS previously.
2. Now in the root of any of your partition, create a folder named grub2. Download the appropriate zip file from my this post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/remix/remix-os/dual-boot-remixos-windows-usb-drive-t3324359/
3. Now, extract grub.cfg inside this zip to the grub2 you just created.
4. Download Super Grub2 Disk (CD & USB in one) 2.02s3 (ISO). If that doesn't work for you, you may try Super Grub2 Disk (Floppy, CD & USB in one) 2.02s3 [x86_64-efi] (ISO). Make a bootable USB of the ISO you downloaded or if you have a CD-Drive, you may burn the ISO to a CD and boot from it too!
*See second post for downloads and How to make bootable USB and boot RemixOS.
Recommended download (Floppy, CD & USB in one) (Valid for i386, x86_64, and x86_64-efi):
Super Grub2 Disk (CD & USB in one) 2.02s3 (ISO)
CD & USB version, (valid for x86_64-efi only):
Super Grub2 Disk (Floppy, CD & USB in one) 2.02s3 [x86_64-efi] (ISO)
How to make bootable USB:
1. Download Rufus. Rufus 2.7
2. Run it.
3. Select Device as your USB drive. Partition scheme and target system type as MBR partition scheme for UEFI. File system as FAT32. Under Format Options, create a bootable disk using ISO Image. Click the CD-ROM icon to browse the ISO file. Select ISO image as the one you downloaded. (If it changes to DD Image, don't worry. Proceed anyway). Click on Start.
4. Close application and restart Windows after your USB is ready. Boot from USB. (Key to enter Boot Options Menu is usually Esc or F12)
5. In boot menu, select Detect and show boot methods.
6. After you enter, choose RemixOS - Resident Mode.

When trying to flash the ISO image it won't let me change it to mbr for uefi. Instead it changes the image type from ISO to DD. After flashing it that way the drive won't boot. I went to the super grub website and redownloaded the image from there, but it was indeed the same ISO and it did the same thing.

Post Updated. Check first post-
1. Hybrid ISO link added.
2. EFI file link removed.
I have tried with 2 different USB/Pen Drives either way it will not boot to the the grub/USB/device when selected. Would we not need a x86_32-efi grub or equivalent to make this work? not the x86_64-efi version?

The same here. Tested with 2 different usb sticks and different combinations, they just don't boot.
For the guy with the corrupted usb stick, try this:
winkey + r
cmd
diskpart
list disk
select disk * ('*' as the number of your pendrive)
list partition
clean
list partition
create partition primary
list partition
format fs=fat32 quick
list partition
exit
In the OP, I've mentioned URL to a new thread by @TP4LG (maybe he has been able to achieve something)
You may try that

Remix OS 32bit on Asus T100 (no Windows)

I have a Asus t100 I'm trying to install remix os on without a windows os. I used pmagic since I'm not that good at coding, I tried coping all the files from release_Remix_OS_for_PC_32-bit_Beta_Version_Package
to a new partition then when I try to boot from it my computer just goes straight to bios because theres nothing to boot. I also tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/remix/remix-os/how-to-install-remix-os-virtualbox-to-t3301160 with no luck can someone help me I just want remix os installed on this computer with no other OS
Asus T100 uses Intel Atom Z3740, a 64bit processor. So use the 64-bit version of Remix OS. The 64-bit version of Remix OS also has UEFI, which makes making the drive easier, and booting faster. Make the bootable USB as per instructions, and disable secure boot in your BIOS. You should then be able to boot from the USB.
it won't work. T100 has 64bit processor but a 32bit system

Ok I just did it so, here is how I did it. Use gparted, from gparted.org, booted up, partitioned, small 500MB FAT32 formated partition, second partition EXT4 the rest, 58GB+. Then took 32bit beta using JIDE's tool to put on a USB stick. Booted the stick and when it came up, entered e, to enter grub boot config. On the second line removed the part after and put INSTALL=1. Installed android to the larger partition, then installed grub, grub efi, formated, then rebooted. Side loaded google services from this forum and it works. Bugs, biggest issue is no audio. Let me know if you have any luck.

From windows:
1) Dowmload and unpack RMX installer everywere you want (you will have a folder called RMX installer).
2) enter on RMX installer folder and execute the .EXE file.
3) Browse for the Remix OS .ISO file (use the 64 bits one, works like a charm for me )and choose the Data size (will create the data.img file).
4) disable secure boot and fast boot in your BIOS.
5) Boot and you will see the grub menu with Remix OS and Windows options.

Yes I'm having the same problem, with the new T100 that has both OS and CPU 64 bit.
The thing is, whatever you do grub won't detect either an external SD card or the keyboard dock's HDD as a boot option. They don't even show up in BIOS ! The only possibility seems to be booting from internal storage, which is too limited to dual boot Windows + Remix OS.
Anyone has tips for this ?
Thanks

Fresh/Clean Install in Single Boot Configuration, Possible?

I have a few PCs and Laptops with no OS currently installed plus the HD has limited space so I don't want to waste time and HD space by first installing Windows or Linux and then installing Remix in dual-boot configuration.
There should be a way to install Remix OS on PC with Fresh/Clean Install in Single Boot Configuration

Thanks for the info, I tried this and it installed and booted from the installer menu however when I reboot the PC I find that the Android-x86 installer fails to create a boot partition.

New install on partition

Hi so I installed remix OS on a FAT32 partition from my C drive
I did this by mounting the iso, the latest version from 5 days ago, and copying all the contents to my new FAT32 partition. then I used the UEFI Editor to create a boot option in my F12 boot options menu.
It has booted and now it's just sitting on the splash screen of remix OS and it's flashing. Last time I did this it just sat there for almost 2 hours flashing. I'm not sure if this is going to work or not but does this make sense. Is there a better option for me using a 64-bit UEFI Dell XPS 18?
I am dual booting with Windows 10. I guess my real question is how long does it generally take for remix OS to boot from a partition install? And also is the splash screen flashing mean that it's working correctly and I just need to leave it alone for a while? Any help is highly appreciated and I'm kind of new to dual booting / installing a secondary OS
@crazynapkinman why not use the official method for installing?
It supports 64bit UEFI.
Also why Fat32? It's limiting, I recommend using newer filesystems.
Try installing using official installer, then tell us if it still stays on the Remix logo.
Sent from mobile
I tried official. It doesn't recognize the partition. It only allows install to c drive or usb.
I've tried formatting partition to ext4 and the installer still won't recognize it. Even fat32. That is why i had to mount and copy instead of using installer.
@crazynapkinman format it to NTFS, it will detect it.

Thanks for reply well if I try to get a bootable windows usb and try to repair it will it work? I have windows 10 anniversary installed but I downloaded the single language version so wil it Able to repair it??
you are in the remix mini area not remix pc.
but anyway what version of windows you was using and with what you shrinked your partition?
is is a uefi or bios computer?
it look like you ****ed up the uefi boot or the partition table.
you could make a cd/usb key of your windows and use it to restore your boot.

yes probably. anyway windows 10 is easy to download with the creation media tool.
then you could use the recover wizard to fix your problem.

Try the following steps:
Step 1, Boot the device and press F11 for System Recovery (this is not the same for every device, check your device manual for your System Recovery button) / or use a Windows 10 Install USB
Step 2, Under System Recovery/Repair, select Advanced Options
Step 3, Under Advanced Options, choose Command Prompt
Step 4, When you are at the Command Prompt run these commands:
Code:
bootrec /fixMBR
bootrec /fixBoot
bootrec /rebuildBCD

He hasn't told us what his system/bios is based on, so I assumed it would be a legacy device.
Your linked guide will work, but this guide allows you to select if you want every Windows installation (or just one) added to the boot configuration.
