Getting regular launcher redraws when hitting the home button on 16/2GB version, when using 3rd party launcher.
I tried setting memory optimisation to high in developer menu which helped a little after rebooting, but after a few hours the problem returns.
Anyone know a solution?

thanks for answering. i tried that too, i should of mentioned.
I've been reading about more and it seems it's a very common problem with mi phones, seems there's no real solution
Yes, unfortunately that is the case. I'm using stock launcher because of this
I think you should turn off memory optimisation. My understanding is that memory optimisation feature tries to have as much free memory as possible and in doing so frequently kills background apps. In my case, OpenVPN Connect app was being cleared from memory very frequently even after "locking" it (by sliding down on app icon in recents menu) which kept on disconnecting me from my college network. I turned memory optimisation off and haven't faced any issue ever since.
P.S I have the same device 16GB/2GB SD650 RN3.
thanks, I'll give that a try

goto settings/about and tap the 'build number' 7 or 8 times, you should see a message saying developer options enabled
now goto settings/additional settings and you will see developer options near the bottom, open that and scroll to near the bottom and you will see memory optimisation
as for battery, I'm still getting great battery life

There doesn't seem to be any bug report thread on English forum, only other languages so thought it would be a good idea to post this.
Here is some bugs I've noticed, mainly related to performance.
-When you open notifications and switch to toggles, the animation is not smooth first time.
-The transition effects except default seem laggy, especially windmill. Not like this on my other Honor phone with significantly less powerful cpu.
-When you scroll to end/top of page, such as in play store or phone settings, then tap on something right away, the tap is not registered. You must wait until 'end of scroll' animation completes. Not like this on other phones I've tried.
- In balanced power mode, opening some apps such as phone dialer or browser causes the brightness to drop. Kind of annoying. The power modes should only affect the cpu.
Storage space lost after update from b100 to b121 bug.
I updated my phone before using it and storage space dropped from around 9.8gb to 9.1gb.
Space seemed to have been taken up by apps according to the storage info, but no additional apps were installed. Must be a bug where after the update, the app optimization made the phone think previously installed apps were installed again.
A power mode should only affect the cpu? Why? Its job is to save power so doing it in other ways to just cpu throttling is perfectly logical.

That's how the power mode worked before in EMU, and the brightness transition is glitchy and unsightly. It also mentions nothing about brightness changes in description, just cpu adjustments.
Most people like to set their own brightness, having it lower when you open the browser/dialer is just annoying and pointless. You can easily change brightness yourself but not how the cpu scales.
my xperia z2 is running on android lollipop 5.1.1 w/root+recovery.......i thought upgrading from 5.0 to 5.1.1 will fix it , but i DIDN'T
i use greenify to close all apps in the background but that doesnt help :/
can somebody give me a fix!
thanks
This will depend on how much heavy usage you put on your phone, so for each individual results may vary.
Here are some of my battery saving methods i personally use.
Ampilfy - requires xposed & root
Greenify - on boost mode ( Xposed & Root)
WIFI always scanning in settings is switched off.
Queue Background data is off.
Location off when not in use.
NFC is off.
Auto sync off.
Adaptive Brightness on.
P.S get the better battery stats app, you will be able to monitor whats consuming your battery.
Screenshot shows how much one app like Facebook can be a battery hog.

As a newbie to the Huawei world (Came from a Oneplus One), one of the main things that attracted me to the Mate 10 Pro was the large battery, as I was struggling to get 3 hours SOT even with custom ROMS.
I'm now easily getting 6-7 hours SOT so quite happy with that, but it seems that EMUI is particularly aggressive at battery optimisation. Apps were being closed in the background even with minimal load on the phone and even once I've delved through the battery optimisation settings to turn off certain apps, I find I sometimes miss notifications until I open the app.
Given that the Mate 10 Pro has 4000mAh to play with, it seems bizarre that they are so aggressive with the battery - is there a specific reason for this? Is EMUI particularly bad at battery drain so they have to make up for it by putting in a large battery AND managing it so carefully, or is it because the Kirin processors are not as good at battery use as the Snapdragons?
I actually like some of the EMUI features, but I wish there was a big button that turned down their aggressive management. Has anyone who switched to a treble ROM got battery stats to compare and see if it's worth the switch?
Under settings/battery/starting apps or so (don't know how it is in English, because my system is in German)
Disable optimization on every all which doesn't need that. It will help and it even got be better battery life ?

Depending on what I do 1 hours more sot and around 3-5 hours more total. But it really depends on the installed apps and your usage. Before doing this I had really bad battery life. Now it is really really good.

Yes, because if it is enabled for apps which you use a lot, they will always reload and be removed from RAM. But disabling those options will prevent that. The Google side battery optimization is only needed for apps, which should be constantly running in background. I keep that also disabled for apps like what's app and music streaming apps and other

I'll give it a go with everything disabled - just wish I didn't have to do it for each app and there was one button - or that they did what Google seems to think works!

There is a button for batch. If you do the batch way it enables background etc for all apps and disables the automatic optimization. That automatic optimization is stupid. So keep the 3 options enabled for all

Yes, I've done that - but even so I find some apps don't notify or have to have their services re-enabled every so often, and I've seen others with the same problem so I don't think it's my particular phone but a general problem with EMUI (or Kirin processors)

I presume that your question refers to the following path: settings>apps & notifications >apps>settings>special access>ignore battery optimization. As opposed to the path settings>Battery>launch.
I would not do that, because if you allow all apps to ignore battery optimization, all your apps will potentially drain the battery. You should only allow apps which you do not want the Emui power manager Perfgenius to terminate from running in the background, to ignore battery optimization. Effectively apps that you would like to keep on running in the background, such as messenger apps etc.

he can disable them there too, but only if the apps still have problems running in background when screen is off, but otherwise he should keep them enabled and only disable the huawei stuff e.g. disable the automatic optimization by huawei

Not even then. I'm on a P30 Pro, and it does that to apps that I have set to run in the background (special access and that other place), and that are MEANT to run in the background.
This is not just annoying. This is a deal breaker. It'd go so far to call the phone defective due to the insane aggressiveness of the battery optimization. Fine if some people like that, but give others the option of setting it to a sane setting without having to run in circles and find hidden options (that I can't find).
Hi, Note 8 OneUI
out of apps I use 2 are mildly more memory intensive (Azur Lane and GotoBrowser) using perhaps hundreds of MB. I installed Simple system monitor with the floating RAM chart. Switching between the apps, free available RAM wouldn't drop below 1GB and yet during usage these apps both get frequently killed. Often just after switching from the app to chrome, viewing one page and then back already has it killed.
The first app reportedly runs well on 2GB while I have 6, so it should be plenty.
It seems temporarily better after restarting the device where the memory is really abundant.
I think it got much worse after the update to One UI.
Is there any way to tweak this?
Adaptive battery: off
Put unused apps to sleep: after 3 days (the above is a matter of minutes)
Sleeping apps - if I read this correctly this option is the opposite of what I want - want them to be able to remain in the background
Memory - apps that aren't checked: adding didn't help
Dev options - background process limit: standard
Don't know of any other possibly related options.
Thank you

Set your background process limit in Dev options to the highest number available or unlimited. I don't know if Samsung still has this option, but also look in your battery settings and disable "optimization" for the apps you're having trouble with. Just for clarification, "Optimization" is not the same thing as adaptive battery which I saw you that you already disabled. If it's not in battery settings, check settings > apps > and check the details for those apps and look for power, or battery in the list.
Thank you!
Battery optimization was disabled for them
I disabled putting unused apps to sleep altogether just in case
Changed background process limit to 4, which doesn't seem that much, but it's the highest number available
Will see how it'll behave now
Also - found exact numbers for memory usage:
AL: 120-430MB
GB: 5-270MB
That doesn't seem that much
And forgot to mention - running in High performance mode, not sure if it's relevant or not
I have installed several apps that need Accessibility set to On in order for them to keep working. 3 of those keep getting disabled by I guess the system and I have to go in and toggle that permission switch to Off and then back On again. It happens randomly, sometimes after a few days and sometimes after a few hours but when it happens it alway affects those 3 apps together.
The 3 apps are Super Status Bar, Power Shade Premium and Energy Ring. Others like Button Mapper or Nova (for doubletap to sleep) are unaffected.
Those apps are excluded from battery optimization, I'm not rooted (yet) and I don't have any "app killer" running. Googling was no help so I'm hoping someone here has an idea. I'm guessing A12 is doing something shady here, but how do I stop it from happening?

I'm wondering if you've entered Power Saving Mode before this problem occurs? At least 2 of these apps will be killed when Power Saving Mode is entered and you have to restart your device to get it going again. Maybe it also kills the Accessibility service? Not really sure, just throwing it out there.

No, Power Saving Mode is disabled and the battery wasn't low enough for it to even have kicked in. When it happened (twice!) yesterday the battery was 40-50% both times. Adaptive battery is disabled too so battery "shouldn't" be causing it in any way.
Thanks for replying though
Just a small update:
Oddly enough since I started this thread it hasn't happened again
I did sideload that mid-month update right around the same time of my post, maybe that fixed it ... no idea really, I'm just glad it's not happening any more
