Is there a way to lower the LTE signal strength where the phone changes to 3G?
I find that it switches to 3G even if the LTE signal is still ok, speed on LTE is 20MBPS and 3G at the same spot is 2MBPS.
I know I can force LTE only but I need it to be PRL 3G or I won't be able to take calls.
I need to do the same exactly, were you able to accomplish this?

Hi
Our O1 is HSDPA 7.2 Mbps acroding to spec sheets but in the settings it shows either GSM or WCDMA. There is no HSDPA.
Is HSDPA included in the GSM settings?
I am getting very low speeds even when it says 3G in the notifications bar so was just wondering.
WCDMA deployments are usually marketed as UMTS.
UMTS networks in many countries have been or are in the process of being upgraded with High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), sometimes known as 3.5G.
So the answer to your question is: HSDPA is included in WCDMA settings. Or properly said, it is a feature of the WCDMA connection mode. Your phone supports it. If you get low speeds, then your operator doesn't offer this service in your area. Or at all.
If you have never seen an "H" in your status bar, only "G" or "3G", that't the answer: no such service in your area from your mobile operator.
I actually see H and 3G most of the time with it goin to E(EDGE) or G(GPRS) very rarely.
I was just wondering why it wasn't given in the settings.
And the speeds remain poor. Even at nights, assuming less traffic/users, the speeds rarely rise above 40 KBps. I am not looking for 3.6 Mbps or 7.2 Mbps but atleast speeds in the range of 1Mbps(128KBps) should be there.
Anyway, i guess its my operator that sucks!
Now that number portability has been rolled out here in India its time to switch operators!
Thanks for the reply. Upped that meter a little for ya!

The reason why you don't see HSDPA as an option in your menu is because the WCDMA connection will automatically work at its best: HSDPA if available or 3G otherwise. Low speed even if your phone is connected using HSDPA is definitely your operator's fault.
Glad I was able to shed some light on this matter and thanks for the appreciation.
Does anyone know how to configure the way the phone lock to the different frequency towers? I.e. can we create a rule on how it works out which band it uses first.
i.e. In my area, i can get 2G, 3G and 850 WCDMA 3G. I want to configure my mobile to use the priority in order of
1. 2G
2. 850 WCDMA 3G
3. 3G
Anyone knows how to do this? Thx.
You can't control this as the towers tell the phone priorties. If everyone could choose whatever is "best" - say 2G - then the 2G channel would be jammed and then the 3G channel would be sitting idle.
The base station and the phone communicate and then mutually switch frequencies or channels.
You can manually lock the phone to 2G of-course then manually switch to 3G if/when you need speeds or something.
There are very valid reasons to be able to control how the signal is acquired. Some areas where 2G and 3G signals overlap, you may find that the 3G signal is weaker or problematic and you want the phone to hold on to 2G. It could be a particular band, i.e. 850MHz or 1800MHz.
Sometimes a particular 3G band is faulty so we need to exclude it.
Didn't say you didn't have valid reasons, hell i lock my phone to 850mhz when i'm using the stock ROM but on CyanogenMod can't do it. One reason why I did it is because 850mhz is stronger (obviously) but for some reason AT&T is camping everyone in the area on 1900. I'm guessing they are doing some LTE work on the 850mhz frequency so they push everyone off it to do the work needed but when I manually force it back to 850 calls work just as normal
Anyways, you can manually choose em using the network codes as I said, you just can't set up preferences as you so desire as that's controlled by the network, even if it's for reasons as mentioned. You can just disable 1900mhz and therefore only get 3G on 850 but if you go in an area where there's no 850 license then you wont have cell coverage.
I'm new to using Tmobile an just not sure if I'm getting all the connections that i should with my mega. I'm using the unlocked canadian mega the 527M model
in the area around my house i get LTE so i see the LTE icon and i also sometimes will see H+ i know both of these are high speed connections.
however, other than this when i get in a non LTE area i only ever see an E icon and the speed is so insanely slow i would describe it as near what i would get on sprint as 1x speeds.
I've also a few times seen just a G icon which i have no idea what it means.
i have never seen a 3G icon and i am thinking that i should definitely at least be getting 3g speeds in many of the non LTE areas and the tmobile coverage map says this as well but the speeds are so slow in these areas there is no way they are 3g. we are talking way under a meg like 150kbs
i don't know if my APN settings could be improved or if there is even a problem but the symbols i see in the areas i see them seem wrong.
G is GPRS, E is EDGE both dial up speeds. H and H+ are 3g speeds. H+ was marketed as "4G". LTE is true 4g. If your getting any connection your APN is fine. Depending on the bands that your mega supports you can check tmobiles coverage map or this crowd source map for the 1900mhz band http://www.airportal.de/

Hi guys. I'm currently using Tctien342's sAOSP Project Rom. Using AT&T's data network in the US, on the signal indicator, it says I'm on the 3G data connection. On the stock MIUI rom, it indicates if I'm on 3G or HSPA+ data network.
I know that HSPA+ is the same as 3G, but is there a way I can have the indicator differentiate 3G or HSPA+ connection?
HSPA+ is different to 3G... HSPA+ is faster than 3G and as fast as the slowest frquencities of LTE

HSPA+(Evolved High-Speed Packet Access)
HSPA+ is an evolution HSPA(HSDPA&HSUPA). It is a 4G technology that allows download at a rate of up to 168Mbps.
4G LTE(Long Term Evolution)
LTE is a 4G communication standard that supports HD video streaming, download speed as high as 299.6Mbps
Okay. So there is a difference between the two networks. But what I'm wondering is do the AOSP roms indicate whether I'm on 3G or HSPA+ network?
They actually do, when you are on 3G it shows you "3G", when you are on HSPA it shows you " H", and when you are on HSPA+ it shows you "H+". You will normally be on 3G or H, H+ is tipically used only for data, so if you have it turned off you wont see that plus. It deppends on your carrier too and its bands that uses for data and calls
Does anyone know of a way on a rooted phone, to force Android to prioritize LTE band over any other band, all the way down to one bar, rather than it keep hopping from 4g to LTE constantly in bad areas? I've found the LTE-Only method, which works, but when the signal drops completely, I have no connection at all. So basically, how can you have LTE band have highest priority until there is no LTE signal and then have Android drop down to 4g at that point only?
Thanks!
