Hi,
Do any of you run encryption on the V10 (FDE) and noticed any significant performance hits? I would really like to encrypt but I fear that I would notice a performance drop. Can I decrypt without data loss if the performance is not good?

I'm currently running the stock rom, and I'm wondering if any other roms out there would provide improved performance without compromising stability much? My galazy player works ok most of the time, but there are times when it just seems to slow to a crawl (i think its checking for updates to stuff in the background).
There are a lot of different versions of cyanogenmod out there. Would a certain one be better than the others? While in the changelog for each android version, they claim to improve performance and stuff... but I also know that generally apps tend to get slower and fatter as the version number increases.
I've also been looking at EtherealRom, how would that compare?

Improved performance? Absolutely! Without a doubt! Stability? That depends on the ROM and your device. I'm currently running CM 10.2 on my 5 without any serious issues (SODs, pocket reboots, etc.). Of course, there's the obvious problem regarding the camera (it simply doesn't work), but that's not a big deal for me personally. The pictures my device takes are caca anyway...
The version of cyanogenmod will again depend on you and your device. CM 10.2 has TRIM, and I think it performs better. Considering our device's low specs though, YMMV. Don't know anything about EtherealRom, so I can't help you there.

Redd is the best when it comes to stability on the stock based side, where as CM10.2 is the best when it comes to battery life and performance.
So since the tablet has been out I haven't seen any definitive answers on decrypted vs encrypted tablet data. From what I've read, half say it's great, the other half says it won't make a difference. So I'm hoping I can get a thread going on proof that decryption is the way to go. I'd like a list of pros and cons for both types of data if I may..
Heres what I have so far that needs answered.
Decrypted:
1. Faster read/write speeds for memory?
2. Faster read/write speeds for disk storage?
3. Less CPU usage since it's not encrypting data?
4. Less power consumption since the core that does the encryption is no longer in use?
5. Still able to create a lock screen and/or password for your device?
6. Better all around benchmark scores?
7. Better real world performance in apps or browsing the Web?
It'd be nice to get these answered with proof. Maybe screenshots of before/after?
Thanks guys. Hopefully this can be a one stop shop for this answer for other people also.

Anandtech did a test on the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 with Lollipop that pretty much sums it up. The result will be different on the Nexus 9 but encrypted has to be slower than decrypted. The question would be how much does the 64bit K1 minimize the penalty.

I've seen that also. However, I'm looking for an apples to apples comparison using the nexus 9. I have yet to find one or any user posting the before/after.
I wanted to find out if the encrypting on a entirely new android device with 4gb ram or higher will cause significant performance issue. When I was looking similar topics, It seems to me a lot of people has experienced hindrance on the performance. I was reading the article written by Faiz Malkani, it seems to give a clear idea on the impact of Ui experience. However, I would like to know if this is the case with new phones now.
for those with more experience than me, how much does encryption affect phone performance?
why does google force encryption on users?
i understand on earlier model phones encryption used to hurt performance however on my Pixel 3XL removing encryption increased seq reads by 100-200MB/s (benchmark scores)
i am wondering, how does it affect performance, and whether it affects the user experience.
also what potential does encryption have at affecting phone batteries.
Since a few weeks I'm noticing that my device produces severe hangs, especially when I/O heavy operations like Play Store updates are involved. I ran a storage benchmark and noticed that continuous write performance is abysmal with on average only 13 mb/s with dips under 10 mb/s:

On my brother's 64 GB model the phone reaches 130 mb/s. His random write performance also is about 30-50% better. Unfortunately I'm not sure if this has gotten worse with the Android 10 update or if it was this bad before. I have also cleared more free space (about 30 GB), but that didn't change anything.
Is my flash storage dying or might this be fixed by doing a factory reset of the phone? Is there any way to check storage health (ideally without root)?
There are many reasons for the storage to slow down (scheduler not correctly configured, wrong read ahead value...)
I don't know how you can check your storage health, the only thought I had was to make a complete backup, then flash the latest stock fastboot rom and install your benchmark to see if your phone has the same score.
So you think flashing the ROM is essential, so a simple reset wouldn't be sufficient in this case? My bootloader is currently not unlocked, so this would require more preparation.
I think so, indeed.
