So as the title says, my G5 gets hot way to quick.
I literally took the phone out of the box (sealed) and as I was setting up Pin, Fingerprint, singing into Google account, ect and i noticed it was very hot
so i let it sit to cool down, i started using it again and its still getting hot. I have the unicorn supcase bettle series (not that that matters) but even without a case it still gets hot.
This is the first time ive had an android phone get hot this quick, and trust me ive had a lot of phones. Too many.
I didnt realize that there was a thread already opened for this topic..

Hello,
I know, I know... old problem, yet there is still no definite answer to the question of continous random freezes. My HD2 is also experiencing them (worked fine for about 3 months, during which it never fell down whatsoever)
but!!!
I knew from a few days before the first freeze that something was wrong. The bottom of the phone was getting incredibly warm while heavily using the hardware (watching HD vids, browsing web etc.) Me being stupid did not think of it till today. So once again, knowing that my HD2 would freeze, I plugged it in to recharge the battery. This time - enlightened by the thought of old overheating problem - I put it right next to the opened window - it was -1 *C outside. Results? No freeze! Battery fully charged for the first time without a random reset! In my case this is definitely temperature-related problem, it could possibly not be just mine.
The question is: How to lower the temperature? I don't feel like using my phone in a fridge or moving to subpolar areas.
EDIT @28.02
So far my theory is correct. Once I kept the screen on for 10 minutes and was far enough away from the window, the phone restarted itself (and I was not abusing the hardware; I was, in fact, just writing a text message.) Normally it would shut down right after the attempt to load and stabilize the main screen, but since I put it right next to the window at the PIN window, it cooled down and now works fine again.

Maybe it is the battery, you could try an inexpensive replacement one from ebay.
Well, ebay is off the limits for me, but I will surely try some cheaper counterpart. It's been over a week and thus far my theory is proving to be correct - low temperature = no freezes.
The heat might also be caused by lots of stuff running in the background - have you checked this out as well?
Of course I did - Task Manager is one of the 3 apps on the main screen. I always make sure nothing is running, be it an app, or an unnecessary process.
But yes, some of the applications do increase the temperature, however I find that normal... well, as long as the heat does not make my HD2 shut down!
EDIT @ 09.03:
Waiting for a new batt to arrive. I just hope this is just some minor energy output problem and that's why my hd2 is overheating, leading to shutting down.
Got my new battery from a pretty decent company. Normally after turning off the phone and even reattaching the battery I'd have problems turning it on again (would have took me several attempts); however this time it went very smooth.
Any update on use with the new battery? I have the same overheating/screen lock problem with my HD2. Mine has done so after taking a call and having the phone up to my ear for several minutes.
Unfortunately it wasn't the battery. The most common circumstances in which my HD2 freezes is trying to use the internet, followed by playing music from the Sense player. The only thing left to do is to return it.
I declare HTC HD2 and the HTC tech support piece of junk.
Final edit:
Sold my HD2 and bought Desire HD. <3 Android!
Hey everyone. I literally just got my G5 in the mail a couple hours ago and went through the setup process. It was plainly obvious that the phone was really hot. Has anyone else noticed this? I don't know if this is a common thing or if it may just be my phone....
My LG G5 is not received.So I don't know.When I get it,I will answer this.
Mine gets a little warm after heavy use and while charging, but I wouldn't call it hot. Try pulling the battery and see if the battery is causing the heat.
Mine also got hot during the setup process. I was adding my gmail account and fiddling around with it while it was charging and it got noticeably hot. Haven't had a problem since then.
I was playing with one in the ATT store and it seemed to be getting warm on the back just to the left of the fingerprint reader (if looking at the back). I wouldn't say it was hot, just warm.
Most phones heat up a bit during setup, just like some do during updating. I'm guessing it may be a little more noticeable with the metal design.
Verizon unit here and mine was also hot when setting up but quickly cooled down. I will add that i did not have my phone plugged in when setting it up.
Mine was really hot during the setup process. If I'm doing nothing with the screen off, it's cool. But doing anything with it, generates more heat than I would like. Taking photos feels like I'm holding a hand warmer.
I read LG isn't aggressively throttling the CPU like Samsung so at this point that's what I'm assuming is going on.
It would be nice if there was a straight forward way to compare temperatures objectively instead of subjective descriptions like warm, little warm, hot, too hot.
Honestly I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it happens after your initial device set up. Normally with the LG's I've noticed that they get hot during a first boot and setup. The only other time I've experienced it like that is if I'm playing a game or on Skype.

after setup, (not charging) installing all my apps it got warm but not where i would have to put it down.
it seem that this phone have a lot of problem............... should i go pick up my package?
Verizon user here. I didn't notice anything warm during setup but I noticed on my first test call that after about 10 minutes it was getting warm to the point of being uncomfortable. I've a text message restore running for about 10 minutes now with the display on and the phone is cold to the touch. Not sure what may be causing the temp variances. An unlocked CPU sounds plausible which i'm kind of okay with. Has anyone notice poor call quality. According to the person I was talking to my voice would go through periods of crystal clarity and inaudible garble. Not sure if it was on my end or theirs. I'll return with updates.
Got my My LG G5 from T-Mobile... After 3 days the phone has been overheating, and every 10 seconds it drops Mobile Connection...I went through a plethora of tests with T-Mobile Support and they determined that I need a replacement device...so waiting for the replacement...One other thing, I notice this happened after calling T-Mobile to Unlock the device...So not sure if there is any correlation between my issue and T-Mobiles Unlock App, T-Mobile said the two were not related.
I did factory reset and left for 10 minutes after first boot then setup my credentials and left phone on WiFi for 1 hour before I did start downloading

The only 2 times i had the phone get warm was whdn i setup it up and when i tried to film a 4k video while charging it and it caused the phone to stutter and even the clips stuttered.
I think there are communication problem here, when people mention hot, how hot is it, as different people defines them differently, I know my friends phone is only warm, but he just say hot.
all the LG phones i heard get HOT or overheated. this has been happing for so many years, nothing new.
i notice this 4 years ago with my LG phone. i thought they would have fixed it by now.

I had the V10 for about 4 months, only get s warm, not hot.
Setup no heat, installing all apps for 20 mins no heat. Lots of photos not heat. Not seeing an issue with over heating
I've searched and googled . I cannot find a good fix for the heat issue . I've turned off location , ran cleaning apps , reduced brightness , and others and still extremely hot on power button area while downloading or watching a video . Is there a kernel tweak for this? anybody ?
I don't have this issue on mine

I have same issue. I've had the issue for awhile. My phone gets so hot, that many times it feels like the screen is going to melt. I literally can't touch it sometimes, it is that hot. It actually hurts to touch the screen. Many times it's popped up and had to shut phone off because of heat.
This is when nothing is running. I am completely stumped.
Also lately my LTE is stupid sloe, so I force it into wcdma[4g] only and it's much faster.... How does that make any sense?
Idk I'm getting bunch of problems, that I'm absolutely sick of this phone now. My G4 ran 100x better. So did my G3 and G2.

I've reduced the heat dramatically even at a benchmark it didn't get extremely hot like it did before . Deleted bloat, downloaded the v10 tweak on this forum that tweaks the build.prop and others. Turned off gps and wifi related things. Did alot. Battery life is great with screen off but will drain on average 1% every few minutes with screen on
I have never had any heat issues. Sure it gets warm from time to time. (especially out in the blazing summer sun) but never so hot that the screen will melt.
I'm still in 100% stock. The only strange thing would be recent apps list disappears but a restart fixes that.
The only time mine overheats is when I run Facebook live..
I actually get a message about overheating. Lol.
It happened... to ME!
I've been seeing these threads and MEANING to prepare - but never did and then it happened. Don't make my mistake, do your research now and be ready for the inevitable. Backup everything now and if you already backup, check to be sure that all your connections are still in place. I want to share as much info as I can at this point to hopefully help someone out of a pickle down the line.
First, the answer is yes, my phone bootlooped about 1 week out of warranty - this is systematic and too common to be a coincidence. Not happy with LG/Verizon, someone is responsible for this. Luckily, you have options.
Option 1:
You can go directly to LG and I've heard that they have extended the warranty for this issue. I entered my IMEI and sure enough the site confirmed that I was eligible for repair. Quoted 1-2 weeks but I did not go that route. If you'd like to though, here is the site - https://www.lgmobilerepair.com/request_repair
Option 2:
The extreme temperature "fixes" kind of maybe might work for you. If you didn't prepare and you're panicking, there might be a little hope. First thing you'll hear is freezer. Place your phone in a ziploc bag and then in the freezer for 15 to 30 minutes. Keep in mind that when you remove it, as it thaws out the condensation builds and you're phone will feel wet - felt very risky and didn't do a thing for me. Next thing you'll hear is extreme heat and you'll see some overkill that involves removing your motherboard after removing layers and layers and layers of phone parts. You'll then either place it in a low oven or place an iron on the parts. Those options both felt ridiculous to me, so I used my wife's hairdryer and guess what IT WORKED EVENTUALLY KIND OF FOR AWHILE! First step was to remove battery, then I started to heat the processor by heating the outside of the phone (that's right, didn't remove anything). The chips are in the top half of the phone so I took off the battery cover and removed the sim/SD cards and then let 'er rip on high speed and high heat. I moved the hair dryer around constantly and tried to approach from all sides. When the back was very hot to the touch I popped in the battery and powered the phone on. The bootlooping continued and then I flipped the phone over and aimed the dryer at the screen. Again, focus on the top half and either side of the phone as it continues to bootloop. If you're lucky as I was, you'll see the Verizon logo and the phone will start up. Now the balancing act begins, as far as I could tell the phone needs to be very hot but not TOO hot. That means you put the dryer down for about 5 minutes and then pick it up and heat for another 5 and ride the wave. All in all I was able to get solid stretches as long as 20 minutes to interact with the phone and backup. You can search Youtube for videos if you need proof - it can work.
Option 3:
Verizon. As I mentioned I was about a week out of warranty. I called though and jumped through the hoops of tech support and a warranty replacement was approved. I was told that as long as it's within 30 days of warranty, they'll usually be flexible. Remember though, if you go the Verizon route - they can charge you a $299 fee if you have any physical damage or modified software (so unroot if you need now and tidy up the outside/replace cracked screen/etc.
This whole experience SUCKED. I'm going to bed. Good luck friends.
I hope the replacement lasts long enough to see unlocked bootloader!!!!!!!!
I also just got into a boot loop a couple days ago. I feel your pain as I didn't backup anything.

Were you able to find a solution?
I've taken my LG V10 apart 3 or 4 times and baked it in the oven. Each time I raise the heat a little bit more. The latest round got me over 14 hours of use out of it. Additional things I did to try and lengthen the life of the phone included adding a dab of thermal paste to several of the larger chips (some guides on youtube for other LG phones offer this as a way to keep the phone from feeling so hot.)
Interestingly, when I took it apart again, I noticed that none of the thermal paste had pressed onto the corresponding heat shields or thermal pads. I can't help but think this is a bit of a design flaw. The major processor, the snapdragon, has what looks like a thermal pad that is supposed to press up against it, but it clearly does not connect, meaning all these chips that run hot sit in their own little ez bake oven, and the heat you feel when using the phone is nowhere near as intense as the heat being generated by the chips inside.
I understand that when a phone feels hot, it can be disconcerting, but if LG sacrificed the ability for this hardware to adequately disperse heat for the sake of a few degrees in the hand, that's a massive design flaw.
I got a replacement V10 from Verizon via chat by complaining about the Maps app not working, extreme battery discharge, and the phone getting really hot. All of which were very true. I had rebooted, cleared the cache, everything and the Maps app would just not work. It would show me being about half a mile from where I actually was. There was something legitimately wrong with the phone. I started off the chat by saying, "I'm having some problems with my V10 and heard the warranty has been extended due to bootloop issues as evidenced by the recent class action lawsuit file in California." The chat rep took about 5 minutes to research the extended warranty and I got my replacement phone the next day (I live about 5 miles from Vz's warehouse). I didn't wait for a bootloop. My wife's V10 bootlooped back in August 2016 one day. I had to put it in the freezer to get the data off as I didn't have it properly setup to backup texts and photos.
I use the Verizon Cloud app to backup text messages and OneDrive to backup photos. I like the OneDrive app to backup photos because that makes them easily accessible from a computer. And as much as possible on the SD card including the Camera storage location.
You can also run an LG Backup and save it to an SD card. I did that when I got the replacement phone. The LG Backup routine completely jacked up the text messages though. The backup takes a while. Most of the apps restored ok.
Mine finally died Thursday night during a file transfer from internal storage to my SD card. Got the phone sometime in November 2015. Plan is under my wife's name so she called and got no where with getting a replacement phone and ended up hanging up the phone.
I called about 10 minutes later, told tech support the phone would boot loop during a battery pull, attempting to enter safe mode and lastly trying to do a factory reset from system recovery. Tech basically said since I tried everything they'd just send me a new V10. Should be here Monday. Phone call took maybe 2 minutes tops.
... was actually surprised how easy it was.
EDIT: Might have had something to do with the fact that the lawsuit had dropped the same day I called, or near to it.
Ok I've got a pretty specific issue that just happened yesterday. I left my mi 8 lite on top of my car by accident, when i came out a few hours later I picked it up and saw an overheating message(which is actually strange because the car was well in the shade and it was a high of 70 yesterday). Anyway, after 15 minutes or so I realized i had no lte, so I powered it off for about an hour thinking that maybe letting it "cool down" even though it was even really hot to the touch. No dice, so I pulled the sim out for a few minutes then put it back in. Tried doing some google searches with specific terms and nothing came up. Anyone ever had anything like this happen? I figure I might get a new sim but I'll ask on forums before going to the store. Phone works 100% the way it did before the incident besides the loss of mobile data(calls text ect work)
