[SD]"Android" process keeping device awake. - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

"Android" is keeping my device awake even when phone is locked, especially when I am on mobile data. Eating up all the battery in the background. I lost around 18-20% in 8 hrs. Any one facing similar issue? I am on 7.2.3 stable.

Yeah i got a wakelock problem too on 7.2.3, it seems to kick in on the second day and needs a reboot to fix it. I'm not sure what process is causing it.

Screen randomly turns on at night and stays on for hours!

So I got my x10 like 3 weeks ago, and I usually leave it to charge overnight, but the last 2 nights It had sufficient charge left so I kept it besides my bed, the first time it happened I didn't get up on time and was late for work cause my alarm couldn't go off cause my battery was dead! I remember clearly when I went to bed at 12:30 it was at 55 or so percent, and when I woke at 9 it was dead. (My alarm was set at 7:30 so it was dead before that). This was quite surprising to me as otherwise it runs fine throughout the day. The next day i kept it at 80% charge at 1 am and when I woke up at 7:30 it was at 66.so it did drain a lot but not as much. I had installed juiceplotter and according to that, there was some network usage around 2:30 to 3:15 or so (i'm guessing the yellow line indicates data usage?) and one thing I noticed was from 4:30 to 7:30 the SCREEN WAS ON! (Acc to the blue line). So I'm wondering what could be the cause of this rude awakening . I looked into the partial wake status and it showed facebook as the highest since boot. Could it be that? I'm using the latest facebook app. Also is there any app that can monitor the systems activity? Say what started when, for how long, how much cpu, screen on etc so I could determine that if it happens again.
I read about others having this problem. I'm sure what the conclusion to that thread was but for me my screen only comes on when I have a scheduled back up with backup and restore. It comes on and stays on until the back up is complete, unless of course I turn it off manually. I think this is also the case for Titanium Backup but don't quote me on that.
Well it could not be the backup app doing it because I don't have any backups scheduled... I dont have titanium backup installed too...
I have the same problem. Not so much a problem though as I charge the phone @ night anyway. What causes it however, I don't know. I don't have scheduled backups running. Come to think of it.. I only had this problem when I had a live wallpaper set (I think). Since a few days I'm running froyo 2.2 rom/static wallpaper and didn't have this problem so far. So perhaps it's (live)wallpaper related (which I seriously doubt), or ROM related. I was running Nordic ROM 2.1 before.
I've also noticed this. No apps running and randomly the screen comes on. Sorry I can't be of any help but it's not just you...
Well I do have a feeling that it could be the facebook app doing it, can't be certain though. I'm judging by the partial wake usage stats, well It could also be 'Android system' but I don't know what would be waking the phone up from sleep like this and leaving the screen on for hours!
Like I asked earlier, is there any app that can monitor all activity on android?Like apps starting at what time and ending etc, so I could use his in conjunction with juiceplotter to narrow down the culprit?
wow guys, not sure what this is. but i did a google search and heres what turned up.
http://androidforums.com/incredible-support-troubleshooting/141868-screen-randomly-turns.html
http://forum.androidcentral.com/motorola-droid-x/49298-screen-randomly-turns.html ; this ones interesting to say the least
x10 specific:

And I think this program might help you:

Mentioning what Android (1.6, 2.1) version you have and what model of x10(i,a) might help as well.
Hope that helps. Can anyone with this problem confirm if its just stock or also rooted and flashed devices?
i got no idea when it comes screen randomly turns on. but the facebook app might be the cause (im still guessing). because data traffic consume alot of your battery, considering retreive and send data too much. i have my data traffic turned off in case i want to go bed, and take it easy just turn on when you need to use internet

Well went through those threads earlier, but they didn't seem very helpful.
I'm on android 2.1 btw on an x10i. Well I can safely say that it didn't happen last night so I'll check again tonight to see if it does, if not then its just a random occurrence

[Q] Phone keeps turning off

I've had my phone for a few months now and up until recently it had no issues. It's unlocked but not s-off and I had been running cyanogenmod 10.1. When the 10.2 nightlies came out I began using them and until around 9/15 these worked great. I didn't suffer from the flickering or radio issues at all. Around that time I started noticing that my phone would occasionally shut off on its own. I thought that it was an overheating issue at first but as the problem worsened it became clear that it would happen cold. It's now at the point where it predictably happens within a minute of the phone being on, leaving the phone essentially useless. I've tried narrowing the CPU frequency range and going back to the stock ROM, neither of which has resolved the problem. Investigating logcat and bugreport didn't reveal any hints to me as to what was happening. I'm worried that it's a hardware issue but recovery and bootloader seem to be able to stay on indefinitely which gives me some hope. Does anybody have some input on additional things that I could try?

Yeah, I'm fairly sure that it's not a battery issue. The same thing happens when it's plugged into a charger and the phone will stay on in recovery regardless of me moving it around or letting it sit for long periods of time.
I have noticed something new though. If I don't enter my Google account information (doing so starts app syncing) then the phone is much more stable. It seems that I can do a simple task like turning on wireless tethering and then if I don't do anything else the phone will be stay on for hours. If I open the browser, the play store, or start moving icons around then I only have a minute or two before it will shutdown.

Updating to a newer 10.2 nightly might fix the problem. Otherwise get the last_kmsg file when it shuts down next time and post it here. Someone might be able to diagnose the problem.

Thanks for the input. I'll give a newer 10.2 nightly a shot but I am seeing the issue on builds that had previously worked fine (stock and 10.1). I have no /proc/last_kmsg after an unplanned shutdown. Based on what I'm reading this might mean that it's locking up before there's a kernel panic?
two options

[Q] android OS killing the battery on s4 mini

Hello guys, so I posted similar thread long time ago when I first realized this problem.
So far I've fought with the company that sold me the phone and it has been 10 times at the maintenance, always returning with a statement that the phone works perfectly.
The positive thing is that now I know what causes the "android OS" malfunction.
It's whenever I make a phone call, android OS for some reason starts to kill the battery I can almost watch the percentage of the battery to go down.
I bought betterbatterystats app and the graphic tells me the phone hasn't been in deepsleep, also in the processor 810mhz time corresponds with the phone awake time.
It seems when I get my phone back from the maintenance and I leave the phone as it is, the problem won't appear so often.
Now I've only put some widgets which the phone already has in it and I haven't downloaded any apps or anything.
But apparently the widgets are already enough for the problem to start appearing more frequently.
So in short: I make a phone call with someone(have a conversation), android OS starts to take 30% up to 80% of battery consumption and 810mhz in the processor corresponds with the awake time.
The only solution for now has been restarting the phone, but I didn't pay 300€ to have a broken phone.
The store isn't willing to change the phone since the maintenance says there's nothing wrong with it.
Any ideas?

N9 Marshmellow / Nougat Battery Problems

Hey everyone. i've had my nexus 9 for a long time now but every now and then i get a few issues with the battery for some reason and i cant find a solution that works tbh.
Right now i'm running android nougat 7.0 and the thing has been great so far but just today i realized that the battery had been draining while i was asleep.
This has been happening before android N as well, on marshmellow. at one point i even had to roll back an OTA update because my battery would drain while the tablet was idle over the course of only 4 hours.
So.. after i rolled back to the more stable version of marshmellow, that stopped happening.
but yea. now i have a similar problem on android N. i just dont understand why this is happening and its super frustrating. before i installed android N i wiped my entire tablet completely clean before i flashed it.
i knowww, its kind of a first world problem. it doesnt happen all the time but when it does its super annoying.
does anyone know what i can do to prevent this from happening? i have set it to disable wifi when screen is off so.. its not downloading or updating apps or anything.. and disabled double tap to wake.. the tablet is basically just lying still on a table all night so dont understand how it can be draining the battery at all.
thanks
sorry, since im new here i cant actually post an image yet or a link to the image.. but basically, android system and android OS is taking up huge chunks of the battery and if i look at graph i can see that my tablet was
"awake" for multiple hours even though the screen was off while i was asleep.
you could try better battery stats, there's a thread here at xda for it, see what's going on with it. I haven't noticed so far but it's only been a day. You may wanna just let it go for a few days and let the system settle, let your cache build, etc....and if you're rooted there's kernels available the you could try out and make some adjustments depending on how you use your tab. Good luck :good:

Thanks for the reply. im gonna consider if betterbatterystats if it doesnt stop draining within a day or two. i need my tablet to function properly by monday.
Last night the exact same thing happened. although this was was even worse i think. theres a tiny little snippet of "screen on" time in the battery data menu. and then it shows the long bar of " awake" throughout the entire night. and apparently this is because of android system and android OS.
it literally drained from 91 % to 36 % over the course of the night... completely unbelievable.
Try disabling all account synching, turning all location settings off, and restarting in Safe Mode. This will limit your device to just the OS and gapps. If you're still getting the battery drain, it's most likely a gapps issue. Unfortunately, I don't know an effective way to remove and replace the built-in gapps in the stock rom.

I've been running marshmallow since day 1 and 7.0 developer preview since day 1 as well. I am typically getting ~4 & 1/2 hours of screen on time with ~30% battery left (not rooted, nothing). If the Google apps aren't the problem, the problem may be with the battery itself where it itself is faulty and needs replacing. A good thing with replacing the battery is that it's fairly easy to do unless you accidentally ripped out the camera with it. If you were to rip out the camera by removing the back cover, then that would definitely be a problem. Memory leak in any of your non-Google apps?
Hey everyone. i think i might have found the reason why my battery is draining sometimes. lately it's been doing fine as it's rather easy to fix.
My theory is that if you put yiur tablet with the screen facing down on a table or something, it may trigger the touch input, even with the screen being off. So it's using some battery cus it thinks you're touching the screen so it has to be ready since.. if someone is touching the screen they would usually turn the device on.. but idk.
it just seems as though the battery drains whenever i put it with screen facing down.

Hey, there is a possibility that there is a 3rd party (non pre-installed) app that has been causing your N9 not to sleep. This is easy to test for. Just boot your Nexus 9 into safe mode the next time you are going to set it down for a while. This will disable all 3rd party apps. If it was a 3rd party app that was waking your device and draining battery, safe mode should prevent it from doing so. The hard part after that is determining which app is the culprit. Trial and error is the only method, uninstalling 3rd party apps one by one until the problem is fixed.
To boot into safe mode, hit your power button, then touch and hold the power off prompt on your screen. You will then be prompted to restart in safe mode.

FYI - Custom ROMs/Kernels allow you to disable Double Tap To Wake /Swip To Wake. So, if this problem really bothers you, that's one way to fix it.

Redmi Note 4x Battery Issue

Hello all,
I have a Redmi Note 4x which I'm using it since January 2018. I have the latest MIUI V10.2.3.0 installed. It was working just fine so far.
For the last 3 days, I'm facing a problem. I've noticed that the phone is getting hot and the battery is draining down very fast when it is connected to the internet.
I searched the internet and found a youtube video which shows that this could be an issue with Duo app update. I didn't update Duo app recently but I uninstall the update anyway. Unfortunately, it didn't fix the problem. I have also removed several google app's updates but the problem still exists.
I've used Simple System Monitor to see resource uses. And found that if my device is connected to the internet then its always downloading and uploading data continuously and there's always some disk writing going on. If I try to install something then its showing pending for a long time. Overall the phone becomes very slow.
I thought it could be some virus or malware. So I installed Kaspersky Internet Security for Android and scanned my device and it could not find any virus or malware.
I was thinking to do a factory reset but I read that it might not solve the problem
Now I don't know what I should do. Can anyone please help me what I can do to solve this problem.
Thank you
I'll also have almost similar problems like you, I tried all the methods that I've found but nothing has been working. My phone always feels hot even when I turn it off, battery draining like crazy and I need to change it 4 or 5 times a day, so for the last tries I change a battery and you know what it worked. Now my phone was working normally again no more heating and drained issues.

So you are saying if I change my battery then it might work? In my case, if it is not connected to the internet, then everything is fine, the phone is not hot, the battery is normal, and the phone is fast. So I'm not sure

maybe you can try to make a clean flash, but I don't know whether it will work or not, but you can try it
