I have a Verizon Galaxy S4 that is completely unresponsive.
New fully charged battery doesn't even work.
It doesn't register anything when a an OEM charger & OEM cord is plugged in.
Zip, nada, zilch, nothing...
I tried tapping it thinking the power button was stuck and no dice.
Any thoughts?

No, my pc doesn't see it at all.

Done.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks!
Just a thought here. If your battery is dead then you'll see absolutely nothing from the phone. It's an issue I've always had with Samsung. If Xiaomi has a dead battery, it will flash a blinking red LED to tell you there's a problem, with Samsung, it's all guess work.

Are you absolutely sure it's fully charged? I'm leaning towards the port being damaged therefore, no current delivered but the battery being dead.
Hmm, any chance it's been water damaged? I'm yet to have a Samsung phone completely die on me. They're usually very reliable as far as phones go.

What was the brand of that new battery you used before the phone died?
Was it an original samsung battery or something like ravpower battery?

Yes. A friend's S4 charged them both fully and he has no issues with his S4.

Yes they were. No water damage at all.
No water damage? Gets tricky at this point then. You say when you plug in you get a light? Have you tried dismantling the phone and checking whether the power button is okay?

Ok, just out of curiosity because happened the same thing to me some days ago, and to a bunch of other people on the net: new battery (non-oem in my case), worked flawlessly just for 1 day and now is completely dead, now I'm wondering if it really was the battery that killed our phone. (Q: Did you ever charge the phone wirelessly?)
The PC (win10) recognizes it as qhsusb_bulk, but the phone won't charge or won't turn on at all.
Take a look here, I came to the conclusion that the problem could be the Power Management IC and looks like a common problem even on iPhones and latest Galaxy phones. Here is the supposed fix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vopBZ9_1tyg
I personally love this phone (GT-I9506) and I've already bought another one to use while I'm repairing this (not at official samsung centers), hopefully with success.

My phone's not charging!!
It had 0% battery so it turned off. So I plug it into dock and it won't charge. I get a message saying:
'Modem Did Not Power Up (0)
Starting RSD Protocol support'
'Battery is too low to flash'
I then put it into my mains to charge and I get the same message!!
It's worth noting that I can still get into CWM and flash stuff. I tried to reflash ROM but no effect. I think my battery may have been miscalibrated so I have a bit of juice actually left.
PLEASE HELP!!!
Anything posted will be highly appreciated.
Plug it into the wall charger and walk away for a bit. I know its unnerving, but posting your problem in multiple threads won't get it fixed any faster.

Sorry for the multiple threads but I've tried that. Before it worked, but now, even that doesn't work!
Not sure if this will help but if you can get into CWM have you tried wiping battery stats, then leave it to charge switched off for a good half hour?
Also, might be a long shot but don't they say if a battery isn't going to be in use for a while put it in the fridge? Well I know this isn't the same situation for you but maybe put it in the fridge for an hour or two. Worth a try if you're totally desperate.
Hope this helps, I can imagine what you're going through. I've had a couple of near cardiac arrests when my battery got too low and it appeared not to charge again.
Good luck

Nothing at all. It just powered off due to low battery and bam, can't charge.
I spoke to a Motorola agent via Live chat and he said that my handset is faulty. I may have to use my warranty to get a replacement, but will the fact that the bootloader is unlocked void it? Despite this being a hardware failure?

Not necessarily! Warning on unlock says "MAY void your warranty". Quit being a scaremonger. How many reports have you seen of people having problems with warranty because they unlocked the bootloader?

I had the same problem with an extended battery. One day it just shut off after a couple hours and wouldn't turn back on despite having a near full charge. I popped in my original OEM battery and it turned on and started charging. Don't know for certain but maybe sometimes batteries just die because they're faulty. Do you have a spare battery to try? Any friends with an atrix who could lend you a battery for a minute? I was running cm7 alpha when the battery died so maybe it was a bug that blew the battery or something?

No, my charge cycle ended and when I tried to charge it, I got the error.
Many people have been PM'ing me on how I fixed this issue.
I didn't. I had to replace it with a new one via warranty. I tried to hide the fact that I had unlocked my boot-loader by pretending that I didn't know what it was.
If they do ask about the bootloader, then you can say that this is a hardware issue, not software, so the fact that the bootloader is unlocked has nothing to do with the modem not powering up.
The first step I did was to have a live chat with one of the Motorola engineers on their website. Once they told me that there was nothing that could be done, I printed out the chat session and requested a replacement in my Orange store and the promptly replaced it.
Hope this helps.
Thanks, now I know what to do.

Alright so my Vibrant won't charge. I JUST recovered my phone from a brick, (I was having issues with the battery life on Slim Roms 4.0 compared to 3.9--in the middle of flashing back I accidently wiped my internal memory. As I was recovering it using Odin, my fat cat jumped on my bed and caught on my phone cord bricking it.) Flashed using Heimdall and was able to get my phone into working order.
Now, I placed Slim Roms 4.0 back on my phone initially after the unbricking to have something working on it, even though the battery life less than impressed me.
So I charged it like normal yesterday, got it to 100% and was fine and dandy with it working. (Still sucking up battery life like a vampire in a fat camp.)
So the update 4.1 went live yesterday, I flashed it immediately to that. The battery life was amazing! So I do the normal thing when I flash to a new ROM. Let it die completely before charging it completely. It's now dead and will not charge.
Symptoms;
I plugged in my normal cable for work (a cheap cable I purchased off of Ebay.) And up comes the round loading symbol. Followed by a darkening of the screen, followed by nothing.
One thing to note, is while it has it's loading circle on, the bottom buttons light up when I touch them.
My Steps;
-I attempted different USB ports since I charge through my work computer. No luck.
-I "borrowed" my co-workers USB cord and USB to wall plug. Attempted the new cable in the computer first. No luck.
-Plugged the borrowed USB into the wall charger. Same thing happens.
-Used my own cheapy cable in wall charger. Same thing.
-Took co-workers complete set and plugged it in in a different room. Nothing.
-Took out my battery, plugged in USB, placed battery back in. Nothing.
-Hold down the Vibrant buttons to get into Bootloader, it resets the loading circle and nothing more.
So now I'm sitting here wondering what to do. I do not have rubbing alcohol readily available, however since it charged to 100% yesterday I do not believe that is the issue, but I'd be willing to try if I had access.
Something you should know, I am using a Samsung Epic 4G battery in my phone.
-For those who might judge saying it is dumb, I have gotten 54 hours out of that battery on one ROM before, that is with texting, talking on the phone and installing apps. I'm fond of this thing, however I have my stock battery at home still.-
Any suggestions you guys have would be appreciated. I have tried things that I found on this forum and basic tech support to no avail. (I am at work so the things I can use are fairly limited. However cords are of no shortage.)
Alright, I unplugged my phone from being plugged into the wall charger for an hour and 3 minutes later it decides to turn itself on.. Not sure what's going on but I'm not going to complain.
So my question now is, can anyone explain this or help prevent this in the future?
From what I've heard draining a battery until it dies can damage it. But, I'm not an expert on that. It's possible that the battery needed more time to recover from the drain.

I had something similar happen when running lithium volt ROM. My battery completely died and the phone cut off (obviously.) I plugged it in the charger and it immediately tried to boot the phone up but it was bootlooping at the startup screen. I let it sit there for 20 minutes or so thinking maybe it is charging but as soon as i unplug the charger the phone cut off. Luckily I have an extra battery, popped it in, flashed a new ROM thinking that was the problem, turns out it was something to do with the ROM(maybe it needed a certain amount of battery power to boot up). My completely dead battery worked on the cm7 ROM I flashed, plugged in the charger and it booted up normally and started charging.

Thank you. I might just have to downgrade back to 3.9. It's almost a shame. xD
I'm going to test my old battery in this ROM just to make sure before I downgrade.
You need to use your Samsung usb charger, and wall adapter only. These two are the only ones that will actually work. I had this same problem and realized it was because I wasn't using the Samsung stuff. Even when pugging into the computer, use the Samsung USB cabe only. As for the battery your using... I wouldn't recommend it, no matter the fantastic battery life you must be getting.

Thank you about the cable, I need to purchase another one anyways, mine at home seems to not be connecting very well. :/

Hi,
I was on latest shostock 5.2 with Siyah, copied few songs to my external sd card, phone was 95% charged, after few mins the screen went blank
I tried rebooting but nothing happened, went to recovery and tried to clear dalvik cache but it never completed. Tried reflashing the ROM but it got stuck on the dalvik cache clearing, tried to rebbot again and the boot screen started flickering.
Took out the battery for sometime and tried again..now the phone doesnt poer on at all

This sounds like hardware failure. If the above two actions do not show signs of life, it sounds like a hard brick.
Pull battery and wait some hours. Then put battery back and try the above two things again, and anything else you can think of to try to get some signs of life. If not, then warranty repair or replacement is in order.
Edit: actually hardware failure could be battery failure. You need to eliminate that possibility before you send or take it in.

If you're under contract with AT&T, you have a one year warranty from them. Otherwise, the warranty falls back on Samsung. I don't know how Best Buy figures into the picture.
See if you can borrow a good battery to see if that is the problem, maybe from best buy, or an AT&T store, if they have one on hand.

Thank you, I will try and test it with another battery.
I have had this s2 for less than a year so the battery should still be good and has been up until today. I plugged my phone in last night to charge over night as I usually do, but when I woke up it was completely dead. I tried 3 different cords and many different ports and wall sockets and it still does the same thing, which is nothing.
The phone seems very sensitve as to how I have the cord plugged into its port. I have it plugged in now but I have to keep watching it because it will randomly stop charging. Well, it's barely even charging anyways. It keeps going back and forth between 6% and 7% charge. Would replacing the port fix the issue or is it a problem with the battery? Any help or info would be appreciated.

I suppose I could try that. Suppose it's not the battery. Could just replacing the port work or would I be able to exchange it for a new one at ATT since I have insurance on it? (I'd rather ask you guys first than deal with ATT customer service lol)

Is the phone recognizing that it's not the original part or something?

You weren't on 4.0.4 were you??
This looks kinda messy.
If you were in 4.0.4, as rat said, you could be lucky as you probably have a brick due to the brick bug.
Of course, your warranty must still be standing.
Why? Because it's Samsung's fault, not yours (of course it is, they don't need to know tho).

Hello,
I am wondering if anyone here has any ideas about what may have gone wrong with my galaxy note i717? I've had my note for nearly a year now and had to replace the charging port about 2 months after I purchased it. It has worked great since. Yesterday, on my way home from work, I received a call and talked on the phone no problem. My phone wasn't hot or anything, and I laid it back down after talking. When I arrived home about 15 minutes later, I noticed it was completely dead. My battery had 70% charge or so the last I looked at it but I still assumed something may have happened with the battery. I tested the phone with a brand new battery and it still will not attempt to power at all.
It was rooted, but still with stock firmware. I had an otterbox defender case on the phone at all times, and rarely ever dropped it. I'm contemplating buying another i717 since they're fairly cheap now and I can get some of my money back by selling the broken one on ebay. I am just curious if anyone knows what may have happened.
I not so sure about this one but if you always charge your phone with a cover that big , that can make some overheating and affect the battery system .
