Battery Life - OnePlus X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone, iv'e bougth an OPX and 2 RMAS later i found out that the problems my phone had were all due to software, knowing that i rooted and started getting into the whole android world.
Everything went butter smooth and the problems that i had i easily fixed due to the amazing threads people make, but i think i have an battery draining issue, but then again i always like to find problems where they dont actually exist ( Every tech gadget i get has a problem until i make 100 threads and realize its just me). So i started of by flashing the blu_spark kernel on stock OOS and it was running amazing, but since i had so much at my disposition i decided to try some stuff, i went ahead and install the aswhins CM 13 and some Gapps, it was buggy as hell and i was finding it weird until i realized i had flashed the very first version . After getting the lastest one evry thing was running awsome but my battery life was alot worse than it usually was (on the blu_spark one), so i went on the CM13 thread and asked what was the kind of SoT time and overall performance of the battery and someone told me it averages around 3 hours SoT but that he had also runned the blu_spark kernel on the default OOS and it was alot better, so i got really happy i didnt have any problem and it was normal, after a while i wanted to just make sure and i decided to use my backup (which is stock everything) and then proceded to flash blu_spark kernel, to my suprise the battery life time was worse then on the CM 13 ROM, but then again theres a chance i was just paranoid and because i looked my at my battery life so much it started to seem like it, so after knowing my story i would like to know your guys SoT and battery loss over nigth.
Do you think a 1% battery loss every 3-5 minutes of youtube is normal? Thanks!

About 6-7 hours SoT, virtual 0,0% idle battery drain. If I go to sleep with 95%, I'll wake up with 95% (or 94, 93, if I have wifi or data turned on). Sorry, don't have screenshots here. Everything depends on your usage (I never play games, for example). If you know how to configure your kernel to your personal usage, you can get better life from your battery; search the threads of blu_spark and boeffla kernel to learn (and to see some ss from people with similar phone usage).
To virtual 0,0% of idle drain, you need Amplify; if you're interested, start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-nlpunbounce-reduce-nlp-wakelocks-t2853874
And here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-0-0-hour-idle-battery-drain-stock-t2973588
I have to charge my phone each 2 days, more or less (I use Greenify too).
Oh, and 1% in 5 minutes of youtube seems pretty normal to me.
Hope it helps.

I am using boeffla kernel with cm13 and idle battery drain is pretty much 0%. Last night, before sleeping it was 56%, morning it was at same level. I always turn off wifi-data before going to sleep. I use greenify and amplify as well. On wifi, my SOT is around 4-5.5 hrs. In LTE, its 2-3 hrs. LTE drains battery faster, so can't blame any ROM for that. I am satisfied with it. Whatever you try, give it 2-3 days, initial days of setting a ROM is always bad on battery.

Slow charging on a GB ROM....??

I'm running Gingervitis, just flashed it a couple days ago. So far I really like it but I'm noticeing some battery issues. Not sure if it's due to the ROM itself, gingerbread, or my phone.
First, it seems like the battery drain is a lot quicker that when I was running Froyo. Doesn't bother me as much I guess.
Last night I plugged my phone in at about 2:00 AM. It was at about 20%. It is now 9:30 and it is at 8:00 is was at 85% and now at 9:40 it's at 96%. Over 7 hours and not fully charged???
That seems crazy to me. The phone sat idle all night so I don't think there was any load eating up any additional power.
What is causing this?

Known issue, unknown fix afaik.
Try flashing imos latest kernal--did not do well with my phone but the charging seemed to be a lot faster IMHO.

Read my new post. Thanks n good luck! (Check your kernel)

Charging speed seems fine until it gets into the upper 90s. I've been waiting for 20 mins for it to go from 98-99 to 100 so I can finally do my battery calibration.
(Imo's latest and DasBamf GingerRemix)
Gotta love the Thunderbolt's ability to destroy a fully charged battery and take forever to recharge. I was using rooted stock and now I'm on Cyanogenmod and I haven't seen too much of a change in charge/discharge behavior.
I know this may not be the answer you are looking for but if you could go without your phone being on for an hour or so than just power it off to charge, it goes a lot quicker n.n

Charging
To address the OP and your comment......
Yes try a different kernel, Dream's new one is based off IMO's with some nice tweaks. As for charging to 90%.... thats standard for any device that utilizes quick charging. You can NOT charge a battery on fast charge all the way to 100% with out ruining the battery. Some kernels have issues with quick charging, so they disable it, others quick charge to 60% and then trickle charge.
Apple and HP were one of the first companies to throw in the quick charge method 80/20 80% quick charge @ ~1% per 1min and then trickle for the last 20%.
Hope that helps....

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I'll give it a try.
Might as well ask another question right away.... I have not been having good luck with the battery life on these new GB ROMS. I've been running Das BAMF 2.0.5 for a couple days now and it seems to not be so great on the battery. With pretty much NO usage today, my battery is already at %80.
My battery usage shows it off the charger for a little over 5 hours, and normally I'd say 5 hours and %80 isn't bad, but like I stated above, I haven't used it at all today. No texts, phone calls, or games.
Any battery improvement with Dream's kernal?
I don't know about the battery life but after you plug your phone in to charge just reboot it and it should charge fine. I read that somewhere on here and just did it this morning. Worked great for me.

I dont like recommending one ROM over another.. but there is alot of buzz over Th3oryofGinger, its got some.. but not alot to do with the ROM. Try that if you like none other. The kernel is key. Try dreams with Th3oryofGinger and see how that works. Remember to run speedtweak.sh in terminal and use the extreme setting (extremely undervolted, overclocked to 1400mhz) and then select the setting to remove limits for governor. I use interactiveX with setCPu and get decent results.
No ROM, MOD or Kernel will give you enough battery allday with normal intended use be it gaming or business. Fact is it was a crappy hardware design in that respect. With the Tbolt you should expect 1hour per 10% of battery for decent use... 10 text messages, 4 emails, and a few pages of internet searches on 3g per hour is what I consider decent use. Realistically it should last an 8 hour work day... with some to spare before you charge on the ride home. Dont expect much more.

Thanks for the suggestion! I may give Th3ory a try. I download the newest Dream kernel but before I flashed it I jumped on Imoseyon's page and found out that I was running an OLDER version on his kernel with Das BAMF. So I flashed his newest (3.0.1 test 1) and am going to try that out for a couple days and see how it is.
I do disagree with you on the fact that a phone should last a little more than an 8 hour work day. On some Froyo ROMs and kernels I was getting a least 15+ hours with minimal/medium usage.
Mine charges very slow, running liquid ginger 1.1 battery goes down faster too.

[Q] whats the best battery effective kernel?

this is the only reason i hate CM7. it drains battery like hell. yes, im already using "conservative" cpu governor and have JuiceDefender installed.
when i was on the stock LG rom, battery life used to be about 3-3.5 days on normal usage. after flashing with CM7 (the latest stable version), i need to charge it every night. if i do a lot of net surfing, battery will last for only 15 hrs.
is there some other gingerbread rom with which i can get back the normal battery life?
ive never tried this rom but ive read that rjtchn's cm7 has good battery life. the last time i checked his rom isnt on xda but u can google his rom

First, you can go back to Froyo by flashing the stock ROM through KDZ. But all your data would be wiped out. Take backups.
And regarding battery backup, I think 25 hours of battery backup on moderate-heavy usage is fine. I'm not sure whether we can get 3 days on froyo with the same usage. I didnt use froyo much as I immediately rooted my phone and flashed CM7 based ROMs.
On Andy's ROM with Andy's kernel, I can get 25 to 30 hours with heavy usage, with 6 hours of sleeping period in between. So it is 20-24 hrs of almost constant heavy usage.
void. #forever
I'm using void. #forever with Franco's v18 BFS kernel.
I had 2 days & 20 hours with moderate calls, SMS & browsing. I think I could have reached 3 days until an exercise app surprisingly kept my phone awake & drained the remaining battery.
Using GB 2.3.3 - at the moment for testing purposes GingerCriccoROM 1.2 and latest Franco GB kernel. 3G data always on, sync on, (fb, twitter, gmail, email etc. autom. check every 30min.) Calls, sms, browsing, pretty heavy use and i got after first full charge and battery stats wipe 1d 14h - still 6% left. OC 480/729 smoothass. Still testing - at the moment i have 30% battery left after 1d and 7h.
i run void #forever and franco kernel
it usually last about 2 days on average (48+hr), i dont use the phone functions that much, mostly just browsing the news and sometimes GPS when i get lost out there, but i keep wifi/background/sync always on since i rely on gmail/gtalk/gvoice heavily
horrible battery life
flashed rjtchn's cm7 just now. And havent even restored backups yet. And as I surf on xda now on my wifi, battery is decreasing by 1% every 2 mins in front of my eyes.... it was 100% at 5.35pm and its 89 at 6.04pm now..... WTH is happening? Also to mention, I had bought my phone only a month ago with incredible battery till I started flashing Roms...
I'm using. Rover theme. Does that have. Anything to do with battery?
I had wiped battery Stat when my phone was in 100%, then I flashed the rom, rebooted, and then connected to USB mass storage for 20 mins to do transfers. ( it got charged again). Anything wrong in this process?

I am wrestling with battery life. Not being able to run 24hrs on one charge seems silly to me.
To use some round numbers, from best to worst given my standard usage patterns: {0}
48 hrs (2% per hr drain) -- stock LG 2.2 ROM rooted, crapware removed, SetCPU onDemand 122-600. Consistently runs 48hrs on a full charge.
24 hrs (4% per hr drain) -- stock ROM as it came out of the box.
18 hrs (5-6% per hr) -- CM7 RC1 unchanged. It seems closer to 5% per hour when I set onDemand in CM perf settings to 122-600 and tore out the launcher (using the delightful Zeam instead)
I can go to sleep with my OptT on the bedstand and wake up 8 hrs later and it's dropped from 100% to 60%.
I did do a brief test of Void forever and like the cleanliness of it. But development appears to be ended so no hope of BT working well or battery optimization. If I had an extra T500/509 I'd send it to the dev so he could continue testing. I did run it for a few hours but after I tested BT I didn't have the heart to go install all my crap on it for extensive testing. {EDIT: going to try it out today and see if I can hit 48hrs with it}
I am a big CM fanboi so I would love to hang in there with Mik until BT and battery are better. I mentioned battery drain in a (pre-CM7RC1) thread once and it was not well received, so I haven't mentioned it again until this thread.
If BT and battery don't eventually get improved (and I assume they will) I'll stick with the stock, rooted ROM.

Same here! Just remember to change the governer to sth like on-demand or conservative!
Well... reading you guys talking about 2-3 days of battery life makes me think that I'm either doing something wrong, or my battery is a bit damaged, 'cause the only way I could think my Optimus One would last for 2-3 days would be with no use at all.
I got this phone from a friend who had owned for only 2 months and the phone was already rooted and with a custom ROM already installed (Light 2.2.2 which is fairly close to stock). With that ROM the battery would last for a day max.
Shortly after I started installing other custom ROMs and testing them:
- Devoid Froyo Final: The most responsive ROM I've tried, but I had horrible battery life with it, with only around 18 hours of bat with moderate use and 3G on.
- OpenOptimus: Seems a bit laggy to me, and battery life was not even better than Devoid's
- LOL 1.4.2: I finally settled with this one. The ROM is pretty responsive (although not as snappy as Devoid) and at least with this one I can have a full day of battery life (sometimes a bit more).
I must say that I always keep an eye on apps running in the background and stop those I know I don't need always running. I also use Titanium Backup to "Freeze" apps that I know I won't use on a daily basis (like Google Maps and Navitel GPS).
The other thing I'd like to mention is that I keep GPS off (unless I specifically need it), but I always have data ON, either via Wifi when I'm at home, or 3G when I'm out of home. My Wifi Sleep Setting is set to "Never".
The only two apps that I know are working regularly on my phone are:
K9 Mail: Receiving mails for 5 Gmail accounts (all configured as PUSH so that shouldn't drain much battery)
Whatsapp: Receiving messages from friends and family, but that app is also PUSH so battery drain should be minimal also.
Overnight drain with Wifi On is about 5%
What do you guys think?
BTW... probably during this week I'll flash one of the 2.3.3 based ROMS (GingerLOL). I hope that being a "LOL" Rom it would be as stable as my current one.
Not a long test, but I did put all my apps back onto void #forever for an apples to apples test.
Set it on my nightstand and we both slept for 6 hrs. 100% down to 66% in 6hrs, for a drain rate of 5.7% per hour. Gack.
I suspect the real killer is the broken CM7 bluetooth stack in our devices at the moment, but since I use my phone gets used as a wireless mp3 player most of the time I really need it. When CM7 for OptT gets a fix for BT I think It will be nearly perfect for my needs.

Void #forever is truly the best rom I have ever tried.... The best thing on it is that its "void" and u can choose which stock aps to install. Thnx a lot guys for recommending me this rom.
Rjtchn's rom had better performance. Quadrant score was 1005 without overclocking(i don't remember the exact). Void's score is 840. But it has incredible battery.
Its the first rom I have ever seen with cell standby having the max bat. usage on 2g network. (all others had android system). That means just by putting on flight mode, things would go even better

It's a balance issue, I guess.
I was researching another issue and so set my phone (as described below) down for 20hrs 23mins and it is now at 84% battery. 23.3hrs / 16% battery usage = ~0.75% per hour.
Compare that with 5-6% an hour I was getting with CM7 on the bedstand. I suggest that CM7RC1 is , despite it's general wonderfulness, not providing 6x the performance for 6x the battery drain.
I am a CM faboi and have done the "buy Cyanogen a beer" thing on his site. I eagerly await CM7 going gold for our devices, and I hope the battery/performance balance is on parity.

AOKP, ICS Battery life issues..

I've been using the latest gingerbread builds and I'm having great battery life, But I notice when I use AOKP or any kind of ICS rom my battery life isnt so great..
Is there a specific kernel you people are using? and What kernel settings are working the best for you?
Thanks!

Good news that you are not alone. Based on my premature calculation, only 10 out of 100 (that's 10% ) ICS ROM users have good - great battery life, meaning the rest is having worse. Mine is falling into that group. I never have great battery, only so-so and below average.
Also as Nick has mentioned, asking for which best is a NO NO here.
One might be good for me, doesn't mean it will be good for you and vice versa.
Try them all and pick one that best suite for you.
My 2 cents......I know you have read this several times - but battery life is really dependent on a lot of factors - your AT&T signal, rogue apps, data sync frequency, CPU governor etc. etc.
read Entropy's excelled thread on battery drain on this forum.
i tried out a few GB roms over the last few weeks and really did not notice any battery improvement over ICS.
Currently running cMIUI with xxkernel and it is really working out great as in the battery easily lasts for the whole day.
I remember when I was on stock GB I could go upto 2 days on single charge - but that may be due to the battery being brand new. I have read that the battery in SGS2 really degrades fast
I have 2% drain per hour when doing absolutely nothing, screen off, wifi off, gps off during 8 hours overnite.
While someone has reported having only 2% or 3% drain over 8 hours overnite.

Have you tried using "Better Batter Stats" to see what is causing the drain?
I have been using AOKP since Task brought it to us and I average 1% every two hours over nite.
Do you use the Facebook app? That sucker is hungry for your juice.

I got BBS v1.7 for a while, that was absolutely no help.
I installed BBS 1.8 for about a week. Based on their info, I got the "multipdp" along with some other things (such wake-lock) cranked up big time.
I read the Entropy thread, not much help.
Note: Wifi is off.
Maybe 3G/H+ keep toggling for sync process?
I do use facebook! haha. and I havent used better battery stats

I'd also recommend using CPU Spy in conjunction with Better Battery Stats to see if the phone is able to enter deep sleep.
I don't get as good as you. . .I average about 1% or less per hour overnight. But that's with wifi on, periodic syncing of 7 accounts, scheduled backups and cache cleaning going on.

My understanding is multipdp will show when apps are waking the radio to use cell data - each wake instance results in a minimum of 6 seconds of wakelock. Switching to wifi when you are idle "should" eliminate this wakelock.
I could be wrong here...dig into the known battery drainers thread from around the time the first ICS roms were being tried on the i777. There was some discussion of it...it is a renamed version of some other wakelock in GB.

That's what I said, "maybe 3G/H+ toggling".
I believed that if I left wifi on overnite, do nothing, I still had 2% drain per hour.
Let me completely turn off data tonite and see how thing goes.
errrrr I have a huge problem with my battery. I've been testing various ICS roms and kernels(aokp, foxhound, serendipidity, fluxxi Kernel, siyah 3.4.3.,Neak) and all of them with the exception of serendipity w/siyah kernel, drain my battery real fast.
Not really sure what the problem is but when I look at what's been using the battery its most of the time either screen (which is understandable) and android os? I went to bed last night leaving my phone at 100% and woke up to find it at 52%. When I looked at what was using the battery it displayed, 93% android os and only 3% cell standby??(btw Foxhound ICS, Siyah Kernel) Maybe I have to many things updating/syncing?
When I first got my phone, 2-3% battery drain overnight was one of the things that amazed me about stock gingerbread on the i777.
I've flashed alot of roms since then, and so far, no ROM can even touch that stat.

OnePlus 2 amazing SOT!!!! (AK kernel)

Hello guys
Just wanted to share with you my experience with the OnePlus 2 concerning the SOT.
When I first got the phone (ordered from Gearbest), it had Hydrogen OS, it was a bit laggy and crappy battery life. I was scared as I thought that my device was faulty since it's ordered from china. I flashed Oxygen OS 2.1 through TWRP after full wipe, had only root and using Greenify, it got a bit better, but still, it wasn't perfect, there was some lag here and there (wasn't able to go beyond 52k in Antutu), and I would reach 3h30 SOT at best with heavy usage (my daily usage usually contains some gaming, listening to music, lots of browsing and facebook/messenger, whatsapp, youtube.. etc).
Until someone in the OnePlus forums suggested that I install AK kernel, so I did, and boy am I amazed. Performance suddenly become way better (62k in Antutu), and the most important thing, is the SOT results I'm getting now. Battery drained 40% while I got 3 hours of SOT as you can see in the provided screenshot. I played Asphalt for a bit, did some browsing and youtube and facebook, took some photos, used 4G for about an hour of this time, with GPS on battery saving, sync off, and 40% brightness. Android system and Android OS seem to drain a lot of battery though, would probably get better results if this gets fixed.
Seriously I'm so ****in' satisfied! Kudos to the developers of AK kernel, kudos to OnePlus for making such an amazing device at such a price (pretty sure you can't get these SOT results on the most expensive devices like Samsung or LG).
This proves that the device itself is a beast, it just needs the perfect software/kernel for it and nothing can stop it.
I hope that OnePlus team releases a more stable OOS version, with more features, probably with Android 6.0 as soon as possible? who knows
Share with us your overall experience with your OnePlus 2.
Cheers.
Still on the same cycle.
PS: forgot to mention that the phone's temperature became waaaay better after flashing AK kernel. The phone barely gets a bit warm and that happens when I'm gaming for a long duration or using 4G. It stays pretty cool on WIFI, with tons of apps running all at the same time (thanks to 4GB of RAM).
Glad to hear it. I will root it asap and test some kernels. Hope I have same experience
I have found great improvements using this kernel. i found playing a tower defense game for an hour took 20% battery. However battwry stats not accurate - restarting phone can see a drop of 10%.
First 3 charge cycles where 0% to 100%, and after 2% to 100%. Have never reset battery stats tho since 3 clean rom/kernel flashes

What tower defense game... My OPT drains so much battery with Kingdom rush origins and frontiers. I guess I could play it for 3 hours straight with one charge though...
sent from my OPT
With latest AK v.013, I am getting a battery life of almost 28 Hours with SOT around 5 Hrs. I don't use data and WiFi in on 95% of the time. Usage includes some music, Clash of Clans, Whatsapp, Mail, Twitter and other few apps. Kudos to AK for this amazing performing kernel.

3 hours of straight gaming is awesome!
Sorry to say that, but it's nothing special. Battery life depends most of the apps you are using. I've got similar scores on stock kernel. Look at the screenshot. From 90% it's 5h sot with 18% left. So kernel thing=control. But battery life=common sense ?
I have the same usage on stock kernel as AK kernel, using the same apps, yet the battery stats are way different. How can you explain that?
Mod Edit
There is a thread here on same topic hence use the same for all such discussions.

Best Battery life ROM?

Hello guys,
My question is which ROM seem to be best for you in battery life? Im talking about my R3Pro(ido) device. I've been using xiaomi.eu's stables from beginning which has great 8h SOT, but now experiencing like 3h SOT with LineageOS 14 always updated with Xposed and all day data/WiFi on. Any ideas? Should I change back to MIUI?
Thanks

May be you should buy a new battery?

U can try:RR,SudaMod,Lineage OS 15 Unofficial or PixelExperience 8.1.
The UNTEST-20171122 version of Resurrection Remix N has the best battery life for both screen on and off time, hands down. Was a lifesaver in a recent job where I listened to hours of podcasts per day to keep sane. Keep away from Oreo ROMs for the time being, theyre still largely broken apart from PixelExperience (which instead has the fun problem of ridiculously fast battery drain.)

I've installed this version you're talking about on my friend's phone and he cannot go over 3 hours of SOT, he must charge the phone before going to bed.. did you install some kernel too or anything else?

No. The only things I flash on my device are the ROM, GApps and Magisk. The battery usage when the screen is off is the prizewinner here. It rarely goes down more than 2% after being left for more than 2 hours, which is ideal for me. Still though, I'm pretty sure I get more than 3 hours of screen on time. Learn to use some basic battery saving methods; turn the brightness to 50% or lower, turn off wifi or data when you're not using it...or better yet, learn to restrain your usage of it when out and about
When I go out, the phone is generally being used consistently all day via me using Bluetooth headphones along with some occasional use of 4G data. It usually never gets past the 40% mark by time I'm back home and I'm usually out for more than 5-6 hours per day. Honestly I'm not personally sure what the issue with having to charge it daily is...I've never had a phone which didn't require such a task, with the exception of things like the original Nokia 3310.

I did the same on my friend's phone: Rom, gapps mini and Magisk. I can't tell you about his usage of the phone, but I've seen battery stats and it just can barely reach 3 hours of SOT, the usage is mostly of socials and music.. This rom here and latest LOS builds are just very battery draining, I don't know what to do with that phone! Anyway, thank you for the reply and the tips, I'll let him know!
What about MIUI? Maybe the EU version? Somedoby that tried that out can tell which will be the pros and the cons? Is it still on Lollipop?

Ahh, social media apps can very easily drain the battery from what I remember. The Facebook app is especially bad for it if I recall correctly. Perhaps grab a Wakelock detector app, see if anything is keeping the phone awake and then use Greenify to stop the apps from doing that.
With regards to MIUI, I seem to recall stock MIUI (from the official Xiaomi site) definitely having the best battery life out of every other rom I've used, with MIUI.eu not being as good but better than other custom roms. In terms of pros and cons, there isn't much. It works a little differently to regular Android so there's some bothering aspects to it (such as the Files/Documents app being disabled by default for some unexplained reason, meaning you have to re-enable it after every reboot.) And yes, It's still on Lollipop sadly, meaning apps like password managers etc can't use the fingerprint scanner.
Honestly I'd say wipe everything on the phone, clean flash RR-UNTEST and then slowly re-add all the apps and see if one in particular causes heavy battery drain.
