Nexus 6P with Snapdragon 820/4GB Possibly in the works? - Nexus 6P General

Haven't seen this posted at all... Figured I'd start up a thread on it.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/New-...-Snapdragon-820-4GB-RAM-and-Android-N_id80593
To be honest, I find it quite odd. At this point I wonder if it's just for testing purposes. I can't see this being released in the middle of the original Nexus 6P, and HTC's end of year Nexus. Maybe it isn't much effort to take the same phone, swap out the CPU and add Memory if that's all they're doing.
I can see the Nexus 6P 810/3GB dropping to $399, and 820/4GB starting at $499 *if* they proceed to release this to public. Then again, that could hurt their late year phone release if those specs aren't going to be much greater.
Thoughts, comments?

it's too far. I mean, htc is new choice for Google (probably)
but maybe Huawei make some device like n6p and s820 & 4G ram with name like Huawei p7! or something like that! because Chinese company have a great benefits from n6p and this make sense.
obviously Huawei without Google doesn't worth a dime or peanuts! ?

If it does happen, it is Google and Huawei's roundabout way of admitting the 6P has build quality issues. I don't see any other reason why it would be released with HTC supposedly working on the next Nexus.

You still talking out the side of your mouth. I think your basing your opinion off huawei years ago. They have been producing quality products for the last few years.
Anyone really into phones would know.
But for Nexus 6p 2017 or whatever, trim the freaking bezels and we good.

It might actually be happening according to this article: Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 (S820) vari...ant-of-nexus-6p-listed-on-geekbench-20160428/
And it seems they are giving some of the same reasons that I gave as to why it might be being made.
It's sad that the 6P is suffering real issues and they are sidestepping responsibility by releasing another phone. If they don't take care of current 6P owners who are experiencing issues by offering them this phone for free, that will leave a bad taste in my mouth for Google and Huawei.

It should be a 6P 2016 Model.

I don't find it far fetched at all, that there's in all likelihood a successor phone to the 6P from Huawei, still under Google's "umbrella".
Google has done this previously with other devices, maybe now they're doing incremental updates to their smartphone options.

I will buy this phone if this appears to be true. A perfect phone.

You messed up your link pretty bad, homeslice. And those issues that you're pointing to in that article, besides the twisting/bending/whatever, are non-issues. Getting harder to take you seriously. You're being extremely dramatic.
I think it's highly unlikely that they put out a 820 version of the 6P.

The truth hurts, eh? They are non-issues because you don't have them? Good way of thinking. They are real issues that some people are having, the article isn't pulling the issues out of thin air.
And it's you that I'm having a hard time believing. People simply aren't making up these issues but you still don't believe it while it's so black and white.
Usually phones that show up on Geekbench end up a reality. I'm sure you will be the one who says they are releasing a new version of the phone so they can put a Snapdragon 820 in it. Which they simply wouldn't spend the time and money on just to do that. There definitely are deeper issues to make them spend the time and money to release this phone.
People who already spent their hard earned cash on a 6P will have a hard time believing or admitting it, but that's obviously happening here.
So who's the dramatic one here? I'm posting links of what's actually happening and you keep saying the same thing over and over denying the multiple issues that this phone has. Just because these issues aren't affecting you doesn't mean they aren't real. Just because you don't have cancer doesn't mean it isn't real. Same general idea. It is real, it just doesn't affect everyone.
Good luck with your 6P.
P.S. This is obviously going nowhere and it just leads to fights, so I'm just gonna leave this alone as is. I've said my piece and I know this phone isn't guaranteed to come out. Good luck to you all and I hope Google and/or Huawei takes care of you if this is true. Peace.

If I had a nickel for every time you said you were done and leaving this alone.

After a bit of thinking about it. It may not be Nexus branded, but released the same time as the next Nexus device.
Huawei probably won't be receiving source code as early as HTC will for their Nexus devices. If this is the case, I'd say expect the Huawei 6P's successor with this 820/4GB to not receive updates as quick as this one. That's my best guess right now.

You posting links of random rumours and taking it for a fact, what are you even rambling about? And what does that have to do with anything anyway? Just because someone releases updated version of the phone it means it was defected? What about galaxy a5, a9? Each year a new one with better cpu, were they defected? Were samsung tablets with same name defected? Your logic is non existant here. And just because you hate the phone doesnt mean its bad. Just because you had a defected one doesnt mean its bad build quality. By your logic every single smartphone in the market is defected, because there are few users with problems lol. Galaxy s7 had gaps between chassis and glass, home button is scratching very easy, some users had grounding issue where recent apps would press by itself because finger was touching bottom of phone. So because there were few users with problems means galaxy s7 is flawed and broken device, and if samsung releases s8 it means they are silently admitting build issues? Thats your logic, read that and undestand how ridiculous it is.

LOL - what are you even on about? Putting words in my mouth doesn't help prove your point. I've never said people aren't experiencing real issues (like they do with any device), and I've admitted that I think the bending/twisting/whatever is something that shouldn't be happening. But again, you're exaggerating and being overdramatic.
The article you're referring to like it's some damning write-up on nexus 6P issues - mentions (4) issues - let's have a look:
Easily bent
Spontaneous cracking of the glass visor
Low volume
Video playback problem
...which the article states right after listing those that "We know most of them have been fixed already".
How many of those are issues are plaguing users? Please elaborate on all these huge nexus 6P issues - I'd like to see your list.
You're basing your argument on an article that named four issues then said that most of them were fixed. And three of them have hardly been posted about in this forum or anywhere I've seen.
And I'm not sure about the whole geekbench thing. When have they ever put a nexus variant out like this? I guess we'll see. I'd welcome it, it'd give me another option.

Zach at BGR has issues

This is seriously the most bias review I have ever seen. He basically hates the phone because of the size and claims that it's not for anyone except Basketball players. Really?
Two local AT&T stores are currently sold out on this device. It's clearly selling. Zach should probably give up writing reviews and stick to opinion pieces.

Careful with the short man syndrome stuff... I got some small hands, am a short man, and would not give up the Note for anything! Why would I? I can use a tablet with any problems, I should definitely be able to use the Galaxy Note...
you know i honestly wonder if apple pays for sites like that.
Oh I dunno...he did stick with that stupid "they'll laugh at you". And if you're a fanatic of wanting to easily do things with just one hand, maybe the Note isn't for you. But almost the entire review was him praising the Note. I think the only other thing he was critical of was he wished they'd made the screen more smudge proof like on the S2.
But he did say if you wanted a large phone that would attract attention or a small tab, then this was def the phone for you. So I'm not exactly how biased against the phone he's being like Geller or whatever his name is.
I will say that this phone does indeed attract attention. My high school and middle school students were freaked out when they saw it on Mon and Tues. And the fellow teachers all wanted to play with it. I had it at the gym and a lot of people that saw it came up and asked what it was. A large percentage of them really liked it and were thinking about getting one because of the large screen to browse the web, play games, and work with files, etc.
I think not being able to text neatly with one hand is well worth all the benefits of this phone.

I meant no offense..
I'm believe the fact that I can't do a lot of things one handed easily as a bonus now. More times then not it simply stops me from using my phone when I really shouldn't.
Unfortunately, we are still living in an Apple world. It seems like more and more people are switching, and realizing that they've been duped into having a company tell them what's best for them. BGR is still under that company's spell.
This review wasn't nearly as bad as Johnathon's, but complaining about the size of smart phones nowadays is getting ridiculous. I could understand if it was an enormous brick, but it's more thin than the iP4.
Basically at this point, it does help to make a list of websites that are Apple-infested...and to avoid them completely. Obviously each click to their sites benefits them..so yeah.
I didn't bother opening the article...but seems like this other BGR guy also said no ones gonna buy the Note.
Based on 3 nearby at&t stores that I stopped by, they're currently sold out. When I asked them what kinds of people bought it, they said surprisingly iPhone people made the switch cuz they wanted the extra screen estate that's offered.
It really was a pretty fair review all the way up to the "size" paragraph. It will be hilarious looking back at the biased "journalism" of BGR and other iphanboi sites when the Note is finally recognized as a truly trendsetting device in about a year.

Then I guess you missed his comments on how he got a fulls day use out of one battery charge and how gorgeous the screen was and how fast it was and how nice the hardware looked? He actually listed a lot of good things about the Note.
And I don't see where he actually made fun of a person using the phone. He said it would attract attention and that it was a phone made for a basketball player but he never insulted anyone that would buy the phone. I think he even said if you shrunk it down about 20%, so that would drop it back down to around the 4.3/4.5" mark. So he's not exactly against phones larger than the iPhone.

[Q] A Good Day For Samsungs Sales

This is a discussion about the Gs3's future sales after the announcement of the most popular phone on the market, there have already been numerous 'comparison' threads closed, lets not turn this into one of those.
After today's underwhelming announcement of the iPhone5, the people sitting on the fence about whether to switch to the Galaxy S3 or Note2 (or something else) have to make a decision.
I've been reading comments on Android fan sites, Apple fan sites, and 'Neutral' tech sites, and the general feeling I got from all of them is that the iPhone5 just hasn't done enough to persuade a lot of people to stick with them.
Now, obviously, this thing will sell like hotcakes for the people that don't know any different to make an educated decision / that actually like the iPhone anyway / have bought too heavily into the apple ecosystem to switch now.
But those that are in the know, like everyone who watched the olympics... the S3 was plastered all over the place ... and the people that were keeping up with the patent trials (anyone who reads the news) will now know that there are better offerings out there and most likely opt for a Gs3.
So, do you think we will see a significant boost from the already 20m phones already sold?
.
Samsung has done a wonderful job with the SGS3 and I'm sure the sales will keep up for some time, but it's not easy to convert Apple fanboys to Samsung. I don't think the sales are going to rise much further. The iPhone caught up pretty good (at least in the eyes of casual users).

Also, a personal insight, my mom and sister got a gs3 shortly after release, and genuinely with no persuading from me. They aren't tech heads, but they knew a class phone when they seen it.
The guys waiting for today to make their decision i think will go galaxy.
i think so, seen people taking 99$ deal on amazon right now
it will not be huge spike but there is going to be one.
for me the new iphone disappoint
no new tech or old favorites like fm radio, xenon flash, still LCD and only 4'
i mean 4.5 would have been fine
I wouldn't under estimate the loyalty a large percentage of smartphone users have towards Apple. Most of us probably had an iPhone at one time and moved to Andriod because we expanded our knowedge to include other smartphones and made an informed decision. There are a lot of people that don't realize there are options and will still buy the iPhone 5. Not sure if they will sell 20M after what I saw today but I have learned to never under estimate people with loyalties...

Of course, they'll sell shed loads. But the huge advertising campaign with the Olympics, the recent trial and those already on the fence should have the gs3 planted in their heads! I think Samsung will steal a good few of them.
Htc might get a wee jeg too if they get in the news regarding the lte patents (if that even happens)
Exciting times for sure.
I've cleaned up the mess fellas. Please remember to be polite and let's not get too far into the "you know what" discussion. :highfive:
A guy named John Pirsig (sp?) wrote a book titled, 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance' a couple of decades back. In it he proposes there are 'Romantic' and 'Classical' people. He and a friend rode across the US (in the book & maybe in real life) on bikes. He had a Harley and the friend a BMW. (patience, it's coming... ) When they rode up the Rockies, the bikes started playing up and while he stopped and worked on his bike, and finally realised it was the reduction in atmospheric pressure needing just a tweak to fix, his mate went and paid a small fortune in a town garage to get his BMW fixed.
Pirsig talked for a bit about those who want an end-result experience and those who wanted to enjoy the journey. Some people forever focus on the end result and miss all the learning and fun along the way, 'big picture' people for whom the nuts and bolts are a horror to be avoided at all costs - literally in the case of his BMW mate.
At the time, as a Helpdesk person, I realised most Mac users are Romantics, people for whom computers are very much NOT fun and who use them solely to get a result and because they have to. Windows users were often some of the same sort, using Windows simply because their work said they had to, but far more of them would, if the subject was explained in terms they understood, become interested in the process and learn to fix their own printer/Word/Excel issues etc.
Apple have polarised the world again with their same-old, same-old tactics. The recent court case against Samsung proves Apple have not lost their litigious attitude towards protecting things they stole in the first place. (WIMP from Rank Xerox) And again we are shown the division between the Romantics and the Classicals - these forums are full of Classicals - look around and you will see lots of people who post about how wonderful this or that version of a ROM is, only to upgrade instantly a new version or even a different ROM comes along.
For most XDA'ers, I think the journey IS the end result - we tend to be travelling along with no particular goal in mind apart from a nebulous 'perfect phone' concept, and if all the developers stopped producing new ROMs to try we'd be heartbroken.
The Apple is good enough for most Apple users, be it Mac, iPad or iPhone. We will never convince them otherwise because they have sipped at the Kool-Aid fountain and like most religious people, they cannot even SEE the contrary information. It doesn't matter if the new iPhone has an A5, A6, A15 or quad or dual, it will be better in their eyes because it powers an Apple. They don't MIND buying expensive corsds ands connectors of all kinds because it is for Apple.
And they definitely don't see an ongoing development process as being a thing of benefit - Apple has spent far too many dollars convincing their world that you don't ever upgrade your device software, you just buy a new device. It is the proud boast of many Apple users that their product is far more stable than Windows, but my old enemy Microsoft constantly produced product that would work (most of the time) on any PC made across a spread of about 10 years, while Apple only ever made software for a very specific hardware platform - if you like, MS made an OS while Apple made glorified Firmware.
The same scenario is happening right now with Android. Android is being made to support all kinds of devices, with a legion of eager supporters providing updates and fixes. (on more of a Linux model than a MS one) Apple will not produce an iOS6 for their old phones, just for the brand new one you have to pay a small fortune for. Samsung (and other Android vendors) are producing updates so you get more life from your phone, providing a level of support to their clients Apple has never tried to match.
And eventually, the numbers will tell - just as in the PC/Mac wars, Apple had to compromise in both hardware and software, (Intel chips and running Windows on Macs) they will find eventually their tactics fail them. In my opinion, Android is the up-and-coming world of phones and pads, and Apple is the dinosaur relying desperately on massive programming... sorry, I mean advertising to keep their victims... I mean customers, loyal.
I think there will be a swing away from Apple as the actuality of the new phone falls far short of expectations and even the glitz Apple will give things will not hide the fact that all they have done is copy what is already being sold for hundreds less. But don't go expecting those weaned on the Kool-Aid to be coming over any time soon - the religious always resist the encroaching reality checks of the real world.
And on a personal note? I LIKE Apple for their litigiousness and mean spirit. If they had been sensible back in the late 80's/early 90's, we'd all be using Macs and locked down so tight I wouldn't have had a 25 year computer career helping others. For more than 2 decades I've had a job description of, 'I'm a bloke, and I fix stuff' that would never have been possible if Apple had treated their customers as anything other than sheeple to be fleeced to the maximum. Their greed allowed PC's to develop and become what we see, and now Apple's greed and contempt will allow Android the space to grow and become the new ubiquitous OS for mobile devices.

*grins* In 1987 I bought an XT clone (1MB Ram, twin 5.25" FDD's - envy of the few I knew with PC's because I could put my programs floppy AND my data one in at the same time ) to write books. I was sick of having to re-type a page or more just to change a sentence. 3 months later the PC got me a new job supporting WPO's at 3 grand per year more than I was getting. and I still haven't written my SciFi books. Working on it now and of course, along comes bloody Samsung S3 with Android and I'm fighting against techo distractions again... le sigh...
Forums like XDA will help greatly with selling Android; some older members need to recall that they once didn't know stuff but mostly folk are very helpful and there is a LOT of info to be had here. Mind you, it suffers a bit from popularity - search for something you want to know and you get like 5000 threads to look through. Needs an Advanced Search function, or maybe I just haven't found it yet. And why can't I search on the entire Samsung S3 forum? le sigh...
I think the reaction from a number of sites about how the court case showed Apple users how they could get everything Apple offered for far less if they stepped away from the Kool-Aid spigot shows an interesting facet to the competition. I haven't seen such comment before, even for Mac/Pentium battles. Usually it was about the differences, not the fact you could get the same thing. It could make a difference, particularly if the members here make a point of posting such a view on any/all forums they are members on.
5th column... the ONLY Army to join...
It is surely a good day for people that knows stuff from the gadget world but for common people they are still awed no matter what. The power of Apple's marketing can even turn a pile of scrap metal into gold.

Very unhappy with the G

At first glance I fell in love with this device. Its sleek, has an amazing screen, beautiful design and very fast. Also has a okay camera (prefer my s3 way more). So whats not to love? Well after 9 days and mixing it up between devices my G now has a dead pixel, shuts off and is sluggish. I have no idea why because the phone has never been dropped or exposed to any kid of water. So needless to say I called AT&T and because I am within my 14 day period they are exchanging it even for a New Titanium Galaxy Note 2. Really wish it worked out, loved the phone. So you can catch me me back in the sammy forums for now, still might get another OG.

In most cases the issues of one does not represent the issues of many. Nevertheless, enjoy your Note II.
Cool story bro. Thanks for letting us know. Have a nice day.
No matter how good of quality a device is known for... there is always a bad batch that comes off the assembly line.
This applies to cars, phones, electronics, any consumer product...
I think that in this case, you are one of the unlucky few who got on one from the crap stack.

Anyone that has used an iphone is never satisfied, hence why the iphone 5 was lower than the s3 and OG on the consumer reports (LGOG was number 1 in case you were wondering)

In now way am I bashing or downing the OG. I would have gladly accepted another G in return. As a matter of fact I miss having it, I thought it was a great phone. BUT when I called AT&T and they offered a new Titanium Note 2 as the replacement why would I decline it. Especially if it dsent cost me anything. Like saying " I'm sorry sir that your new Honda Accord is a lemon, would you like this new Corvette for the replacement". Who is going to say no. Not only that but I wanted the note 2, havent had one before. And for the smartass who said " look at all his devices" If you had know that a majority of the android phones were bought and donated to the developers of those devices and that I am sorry I can afford to get the new phones when they come out. Get off my nuts bro dont be jeleous.

Definitely not "jeleous" about your English vocabulary.
Have fun in the Samsung forums with your ohsoridiculous amount of money. Hope you find less things to complain about with the Note 2 instead of making pointless posts on their subforum as well.
So they replaced a $100 contract phone with a $300 contract phone? Also, not jealous about the devices you have and have had as well as on your nuts about it, as it was a simple statement, that was a nervous assumption on your own, because you're in a corner defending yourself. I'm having fun feeding you as well, due to you being an obvious troll since you've provided nothing informative by making this topic.

I have the Note 2 and the OG and I have to say the Note 2 is not as nice as the OG.
Only plus side is that it will have much more development support.
LG Optimus G E971
I just sold it, that's it I got tired of waiting for the devs's this phone is top, but will never get support because of LG stupid way of handling advertisements.
They make the phone and its like they don't want to sell it. Stupid LG will never buy form them.

Gonna wait next time!!

Love the phone, but I swear I'm gonna wait next time around. So far, being an early adopter has brought:
-Cases that don't fit
-Screen protectors that don't stick, or hamper the device
-A mess of cables
-Chargers that won't charge, or worse could fry something
Not to mention it's proven moot to order on day one in hopes you'll get the device earlier. That could change but still, whatever. That 820 though. Two times the power two times the efficiency

That's the whole idea of being an early adopter. Taking a risk. Being an early adopter doesn't guarantee you will get a perfect product everytime. I enjoy the risk, and if it doesn't work out, my credit card company ensures i get my money back.
So please stop calling yourself an early adopter if you cannot accept the risk, especially with your issues that involve 3rd party accessories and not the phone itself.

It's always the vocal ones that have something bad to say against the nexus program. I've never had any problem with any of the nexus purchases i've made. The more vocal ones on the forums complain about the minor things like you said, yellow screen, pink screen, etc etc. Most of the complains are user error or "OCD" problems.
My OP was partially in jest.... Don't mean to complain.

An empty post? Ridic. I couldn't have said it better myself. Haters gonna hate. Best phone I ever got on day 2 order. But it's becoming a chore to negate the detractors. Are any of them shills? I certainly hope that is not the case. Although I did read that they are paid to trash other devices. Could not be right?

Oh lord...please stop.
No ones hating. He simply stated that the frustration of not being able to buy fully functioning accessories for a brand new flagship device has him contemplating waiting for things to be stable before making a purchase next time.
No ones hating. It's a valid frustration. Not bring able to protect your device, charge it in the car etc. He's not blaming the device. He didn't say he doesn't like it. He simply said he might wait for the dust to settle next time...
The conspiracy theories of members actually being rival manufacturers shill posters posting these generally vague negatives are just ridiculous. Anytime someone has a gripe, complaint, or problem people start defending the phone like its their deceased brother that the have to protect their legacy at any cost. It's so out of hand...
And once again this just goes to show what happens when people get a development device and want accessories right away. You will find they make few things for devices like this. You will find far better cases, cords and screen protectors for mainstream devices.
Sorry, I have to disagree with that.
Nexus isn't a development device anymore. When they're advertising them on hulu commercials while streaming "The Voice", they've officially relinquished the development device title. At least as the primary target audience.
These nexii are aimed at everyone now. They're not the crude, buggy dark Android devices of the past. They're the clean Android showcase, and they're designed for everyone.
Again though, I'm not blaming Google for anything. It's frustrating that these 3rd party companies rush what are advertised as pricey. Quality items. OPs main point was that he might want to wait next time.for the dust to settle before purchasing a device, as to not deal with shoddy out of spec items.

The nexus will always be mainly a development device. Other wise things like Root and unlocking the bootloader would be much harder. Even commercials target a a group of people. Couldnt really say as I have never even seen a commercial for it but that could be the simple fact that I dont watch commercials at all. I mean really look at it. What devices are shown at Google I/O which is a developers conference. Not mainstream devices, no flagships just the nexus devices. Their main target has always been developers. yes they may target the average joe but they are the secondary targets at best.

Yeah I think they may do nothing as well, but if they have followed any other famous recalls, going above and beyond to keep customers effected by defective products happy, good a long way. Look at Toyota and Tylenol for passed cases.
If they do the right thing it will make the brand stronger. If they leave 2 million customers out to dry, they will feel the damage to their reputation for years, across multiple product lines not just phones.
If take a discount on an S7e or a future discount on a S8e or a Note8 just something to show they actually care to keep my business.
Yeah, they better do something cause this is embarrassing. To go through another recall... Shesh. The jokes are endless and it's becoming annoying to know that some devices are melting. Makes it uncomfortable to have this device, and I don't want to switch! This phone is too good.
Because I love the device SO much, I was not listening too much around the replacements having issues too, but THIS kind of did me in.
"Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note7 or replacement Galaxy Note7 device should power down and stop using the device and take advantage of the remedies available."
