I just bought this Vibrant over ebay.
What sux is, the user is some what mislead prints.
Here is the case, phone is locked down. pattern lock down...
Factory Reset code does not work.
Hold Down Vol Down + Vol Up + Power Button, Release Power on Vibrant Logo show up. This procedure done so many times, did NOT work.
Does this mean I have a Hardware Lock? on this phone. (the phone shows July/17/2010)
Please tell me what options there are to solve this issue?
I like to use this phone on a prepaid sim. later get this sim unlock also.
Adb reboot recovery. You have to dl the android sdk first.

does this require, going in the device and enable debug? cause I can not even go in to Stock Recovery Mode. Stuck on the google account log in screen.
can you tell me how to get adb recovery to work?
thnx in advance.
Why does this post seem a little fishy to me? My instincts would lead me to think the phone isn't legit. You bought a phone off of Ebay, AND it came screen locked? Having sold many a phone on Ebay, I can tell you the first thing I do is wipe the phone and restore it to 100% stock. Receving one locked is alot more than "misleading", it just plain makes no sense. But I.m guessing you already know that. If it walks like a duck, and quack likes a duck....it's probably a stolen phone
Just sayin.....

Why don't you email the seller and ask what the pattern was?

That would be too easy
Dipping it in acid unlocks it in sub seconds, if you use hot water it will take longer, but you will get an email confirmation of a full unlock.

Tell you what, I actually got a hold of the Original owner of the phone, she was nice to add me to Authorized user, some hispanic lady. She gave up on the phone cause not what she exactly need. have no clue how to even use it correctly. Friend of her, sold it on ebay. I bought it, ever since been in touch with T-Mobile. Trying to get IMEI Unlock code!! still waiting...for that email...
do not bother, "there is app to get unlock code" I KNOW! there is!! I want to use it badly...Problem is, I am in a town where T-Mobile does NOT EXIST!! Only ATT. That is why, getting unlock code, so I can use it on ATT. Log in the phone, and Format with Custom ROMs.
This is my only choice now I have...suck aint it.

She sold you a hardware locked phone that's also pattern locked and you're okay with that? Why don't you demand your money back? How can you talk about how you would put the guillotine to a bad seller when that is exactly what you're dealing with?
I'm curious to see if there are others in the US who can't get their tablet to recognize that there's an update available. If your tablet won't even recognize an update, then please post here and also add in whether or not you have a serial number in your software. (Go to Settings, About my tablet, status, and scroll down to "Serial Number".
I want to know if the serial number is the real culprit.
No update here either. Wiped my tab completely back to stock...didn't work.
I also have an unknown serial number. I can't afford to exchange because I need this thing for school...

Mine has the unknown serial number and is going back to Best Buy right now. :/
is it possible to edit serial number?
Okay so 2/2 folks in the US who can't get the update to launch have unknown serial numbers. (side note: I can't even get the update to work when I download the android police file and update it that way- it gives an unknown error every time)
@justlou- does that mean you are in the US and weren't able to get your system to recognize that there was an update available?
@leaking- someone smarter than I would have to answer that, but I'd imagine you'd need root to do it, and it appears as though we can't get root access either without serial numbers.

No. You can't even root without the serial number.
I'm getting my prime delivered tomorrow, hoping and praying to the heavens above i don't have this serial number issue.
Im in Canada still no update :'(

just wanted to report i have no serial number listed in the about section, and got not OTA last night until i did a factory reset.
i'm located in seattle,wa
that said when i did the factory reset i skipped adding my google account, just did the wifi part of the initial setup and skipped the rest, the reason i did this is i didn't want a bunch of updates and apps being pushed through trying to resynch my google accounts with the tablet, try doing that way, go stright from wifi setup to search for new updates.
my s/n on the unit is as follows s/n:bcokas024xxx (the little sticker next to the charging port)
I received my update this morning in the USA. Also a friend near by got his.
Finally another friend who is in Mexico on vacation got his ICS today.
Interesting. Has anyone else managed to make this work? I'm going to try now.
Out of curiosity- does your system now have a registered serial number?

What exactly did you skip over? Things like time/date, etc as well? Or just the google sign in page?
Anyone else have any luck with this?

Ordered mine the 26th and it has an unknown S/N. This is really upsetting me.
so does anyone have an unknown serial number prime that isn't from best buy?
just curious how widespread this problem is. and my money is on that being what's blocking your update, since it may contain region info (US/EU) in it...
yeah i skipped over everything except the wifi setup, left time and date as whatever it was ect, i also bought mine from best buy as well,
seriously did a factory reset, picked my network entered my password skipped the time and date setup (believe i left it on network) and skipped google accounts setup and it was there, that said, i haven;t tried to root or anything of that sort yet and also didn;t have any of the other previous s/n issues people have been reporting, i may just be lucky, i just know i have no s/n listed in teh about section and everything seems to be working great after factory reset and ICS install.
i'll be back in an hour if you guys need anything else

Yup...I think we're zeroing in on a batch error/problem. This especially concerns me as I'm hoping to root the device soon.
Asus live chat is offline now, email service request sent. I may end up at BB tonite if they have any in stock...I'd be interested in an exchange if this is going to take longer than a day or so to fix...I imagine they'll be publishing some type of firmware fix...
I think it would help if people having trouble with the serial number problem email asus support, mentioning clearly the serial number issue and why we suspect that has something to do with the lack of an available update.
Mine was ordered on the 29th of December, and it's from Officedepot.com. So it's not just BB.
I've tried to do the factory reset skipping google account registration, and it didn't help.
Are any of you able to get the Android Police file to work? Every time I do it- I get "Unknown Error 2".
Very frustrating.
Just curious because support is telling me that my Prime is "jail broken". not sure what they mean by this since it's not an iPhone. did they mean rooted or bootloader unlocked? I don't recall unlocking the bootloader ever for this but I'm at work now and won't be able to check til later tonight. I was just wondering if there is a site I can go to to check the status.
I just checked and my Prime is not even unlocked, as far as I can see. Not sure if this how you would check but I restarted it and held the Volume down while rebooting. I read the info that appeared at the top and nothing said unlocked. Now I'm wondering how does Asus know my tablet is rooted (if that is what he meant by jail broken)? I have never called them and never sent them my tablet. I think Asus will definitely be getting a customer is angry call tomorrow.
Did you buy it new, used?
It is possible if you bought one from someplace that someone returned it after they unlocked it and you just happened to get it.
I guess even new, someone could have opened it, but told the store they didn't.
Hope you get it straightened out, as it will affect your warranty.
Good Luck.
Talking to them now. I bought my Prime brand new from Gamestop. I was the first one to pre-order at the store and the first one to pick it up. It was sealed when I got it. Asus is saying that i sent it in. I have never sent my tablet to them. I asked him when it was sent in and he says that information has been deleted. I told him I need to know the dates it was sent in and when it was returned because it has never left my possesion. They have me on hold right now

If you had unlocked it yourself you would definitely know it. So if there were no previous owners and it was in a sealed box when you got it, I don't see any way it could be unlocked without your knowledge.
I have not unlocked myself (just rooted with stock boot loader and ROM) so I have not seen this personally. But according to what I've read here on XDA there is a "this device is unlocked" message that appears somewhere during boot if the device is unlocked. Do you get such a message?
See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1586634&highlight=undo+unlock Which is someone talking about wanting to lock it again, which apparently can't be done. But it does describe what an unlocked device looks like.
You will not believe this!!! Asus says that they know that my tablet has been rooted because the information was sent to them (or retrieved by them) by the devicetracker.asus.com site. He said not only is it used to find stolen product, but it can be used to retrieve system information sent by the tablet, like when it is rooted. We finally figured out that what was sent back to them was my power brick in March because it stopped charging the tablet. Now I need to know what information Asus can see off that Device tracker site because it has never worked for me when I put my SN in.
Found this post and it looks like I activated the service sometime ago but it doesn't seem to work for me now. I can't see any information on my tablet. So it seems that they can track whether your rooted and it does void your warranty, unless I can find some documentation that states rooting your tablet doesn't void the warranty.

Nope not unlocked. Checked last night, no message that it was unlocked. I purposely didn't unlock it because I had plans to send it in to them to get one of the newer ones (latest serial numbers).

Interesting they know (going from your previous post) that you are rooted. Anyway, it's my understanding the rooting does not void the warranty. Only unlocking does. So being rooted and Asus being able to detect root status should not make any difference.
I just followed the link you posted and tried to go to http://waveshare.asus.com/select_lang.action . For the user id and password I tried using the same information I use for the Asus VIP site ( http://vip.asus.com/user/uhome.aspx?SLanguage=en-us ) It got me to the screen where you accept the agreement but then keeps kicking me back to the login screen. Is this a different account I have to register for?
From reading around, it seems to only work when you sign in with your google account, but be careful. In the agreement that pops up, it says something about linking your goggle account with the serial number of the tablet. I just wonder what benefit Asus gets from doing that? Does it allow them to query more info from the tablet?
Hi all,
I just got my brand new sealed S3 today. I had a look at the call logs and saw there were already 2 numbers listed there dated the 16th November. There are 2 missed calls from the same number and one sent message to another number.
Is this normal? Should there be numbers in my call logs from almost 2 weeks ago? Surely Samsung wouldn't of done such a test?
Has it happened to anyone else before or anyone able to shed some light?
Thanks!

Where did you get the phone from? i.e.was it possible it had a previous owner
Did you have to do a full set up first time you turned it on?
I would just do a factory reset and start again fresh

I bought it from an online store who shipped it to me. It wasn't bought from a second hand dealer - that I know of.
I didn't have to do a full set up after I turned it on, which I thought was strange as I had to with my S2. I thought it might be because I wasn't using a sim card.
It is a bit strange as the box was sealed of both sides with the Samsung stickers.
Now that I think of it I did think quite a few apps were missing though.
Should I return it to them or just do a factory reset and start over? It is supposed to be brand new.

Ultimately it is your choice, but I would still do a reset regardless.
I guess the stickers wouldn't be too hard to fake so perhaps this online store resealed one that was sent back?
Sorry if this is the wrong section, but it may be helpful for those with this version of the phone to see this ASAP. As of yesterday, 7/19/2016, Motorola stopped giving out unlock keys for the Amazon Prime "with ads" edition of the Moto G4. Though they for a short time advised on their website to contact customer support at Amazon for a unlock key, Amazon does not provide this service and Motorola's support page now reflects this. If you obtained an unlock key prior to yesterday, it will obviously still work, so please keep it safe somewhere.
It is CONFIRMED however that the "Standard Non-Ad" edition sold on Amazon is the retail version which can be bootloader unlocked! So if you can, buy that one instead.
oh snap, and I was about to buy one
Unnecessary i waited all these days. Finally i got time today to unlock bootloader, and its not working What should I do? return it and buy non-ad version?

Definatley a huge bummer that it was possible and then they closed it. Maybe someone could reverse engineer the API they use for sending Data and such on the moto site, and then force it to generate a unlock key. Or maybe I'm just a very, very hopeful thinker

There is currently (or at least was yesterday) and Instant $50 rebate on the Standard editions on Amazon, making them the same price as the ad versions. I've talked to their Prime phone department (because apparently that exists...) and they seem to insist that the Standard version is a factory Motorola phone, which should in theory be unlockable. So if you can still return yours, you should probably do so if bootloader unlock/rooting is important to you.

I also unlocked mine yesterday when I received it. Make sure you have the unlock key in the exact format that it describes on the official unlock page.
It doesn't tell you if it is in the wrong format. You can type anything in the text box and it will say not eligible. So make sure you have it right. It took me a few tries.
