Can you flash stock miui roms using the unoffical bootloader unlock? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Anyone know the answer? I heard you have to remove something from the zip before you flash it. Thanks!

yeah you have to remove the emmc file or you'll brick, also don't do official updates without removing it too

if you just want to flash MIUI official ROM, there is a guide about how to do the job with a locked bootloader http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html.

[Q] Root on unlocked bootloader

Hi!
I am new to rooting and flashing on Android. I have an Xperia S which is currently in repair for yellow tint/spots on the screen. When I get it back and know that it is working i will unlock the bootloader using the official method.
My goal is to have rooted gingerbread on the phone, maybe with a better kernel. I have found a prerooted ftf with the FW that I want. Can I just flash that one and it will work?
Do I have to install custom recovery?
Thanks in advance!
Have I understood it right? unlocked bootloader + flash prerooted system rom. That should work?
If I want to install custom rom I need custom recovery. I would appreciate if someone could verify this for me, thanks!

Need help in Flashing

Hello,
I just bought Redmi Note 3(Kenzo) after selling My Moto G3 Turbo. I have got permission from the MI for unlocking bootloader first day itself.
But I went through some forum link and im confused on the procedure to unlock bootloader and flash custom recovery and ROMS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/guide-redmi-note-3-available-twrps-t3406708 Went through this and got more confused which TWRP should i Flash and all..
Could anyone please provide me the step by step procedure to unlock bootloader and flash custom roms like cm13, 14.. Please
I just use the standard TWRP for kenzo. I tried cofface and had a few issues with it being picky about the USB drive I was using. Many like using TWRP alka version since it can back up so many different things compared to the standard but the standard has worked for me in between moving MIUI 8 dev/stable, CM13, and CM 14.
I suggest zcx twrp, you can flash any ROM and backup all partitions.
Download MI UNLOCK tool once you get your permission to unlock.
Flash TWRP (Official or by dadi11) using fastboot.
Choose ROM and Flash it.
Thank You All.

Thanks for the reply.
I have got the permission and downloaded the flash tool. I am confused in flash CM 13 roms... I saw that we need to be on cm 13 or 14 firmware which is around 45-50mb.
So once i unlock the bootloader, do i need to flash anything else apart from TWRP to install custom roms or directly flash custom rom. Also can i go back to lollipop rom again from CM.

Yes, you do not need to install anything else I guess. Somehow going back to LP does not work. However, developer ROM works fine through fastboot.

MIUI beta

Hey there, I'd like to install the beta version of miui. Do I need to unlock the bootloader and have a custom rec? Does the phone still keep it's security or does the beta work the same way as custom roms (unlocked bootloader, custom rec and so on and so forth)? Could anyone write down some installation instructions? That'd be awesome!
Cheers
No it doesn't require any unlock bootloader, just download the Latest Miui 8 Beta Rom and Flash using Mi Flash.
Sure thing

No. You don't need an unlocked boot loader. You can flash using the fastboot version of beta ROM by putting your phone into EDL Mode. After you flash the beta ROM then you can unlock your boot loader and install custom recovery if you want. I'm sharing some threads from MIUI forums and XDA which might help you :
1) Flashing beta ROM : http://en.miui.com/thread-294318-1-1.html
2) Unlocking Boot Loader: Please follow this method only as the unofficial one bricks your phone and always in danger of hard brick.
http://en.miui.com/thread-202290-1-1.html
3) Custom Recovery : Use ZCX TWRP if you're planning to stay on MIUI. It can flash incremental OTA's and patches cracked boot.img automatically and also prevents forced encryption in MIUI ROMs. http://en.miui.com/thread-358819-1-1.html
Hope this clears your doubts Hit the thanks button if you found this helpful
Just Download the Latest Miui 8 Fastboot Rom, Reboot ur phone to EDL Mode and Flash using Mi Flash
Thanks a lot everyone, glad to see such a helpful community around here!
A nice day to all of you
and another question: developer rom = beta rom? right? Sometimes they call it beta rom and sometimes developer rom, no idea why

TWRP Flashable MIUI?

Is there way to flash MIUI 8 (lastest version would be best) with TWRP,without locking my bootloader and having to flash fastboot ROM?
Same question here. I have ZCX TWRP. Never tried to flash MIUI through it though.

Yeah, you can flash official miui through ZCX twrp...in rare cases can relock bootloader, but you can just unlock it via fastboot and .miunlock.
The latest global dev didnt loxk for me...although I suggest xiaomj.eu roms, they are same china dev base and optimised. I flashed latest global dev 21.3 just yesterday and tbere were lagg present and a bit more heating..now on xiaomi.eu alit more smooth and no lagg in chrome...
I dont want to risk hardbrick. I found one where I modify boot.img and delete some files from official ROM
No harbrick man... I tested many times... With ZCX you can flash any miui rom, it will only get locked if you were preivously on firmware from LP, or didnt unlock before. If it gets licked, you can unlock it in a minute through fastboot.
But I suggest you to flash xiaomi.eu rom, which is same as official miui dev and it never locks BL.

Unofficialy unlocked bootloader

What makes the bootloader lock itself when flashing firmware on unofficially unlocked bootloader?
I have found some firmware which remove emmc_appsboot.mbn, but according to other users you need to update that too.
So what I want to know is what happens when I flash a firmware with emmc_appsboot.mbn removed. Will it be the same as when officially unlocked phones flash a firmware with emmc_appsboot.mbn?
Is there any downside to removing emmc_appsboot.mbn?

emmc_appsboot.mbn is the bootloader. If you did not remove that, it will flash a Marshmallow bootloader. The problem is it will relock your bootloader if you're on Lollipop bootloader. Doing the unofficial unlock method means you're on Lollipop bootloader.
Relocking your bootloader while not on MIUI could be a problem so don't flash any firmware with emmc_appsboot.mbn if you've unlocked unofficially. Right now no one knows a method to update to MM bootloader without unlocking officially.
Latest Lineage OS(and those based of of it) needs Marshmallow bootloader to work(otherwise bootloop).
Try official unlock Just wait for one week after applying. Because you will always need the latest firmware to work smoothly on any custom rom . Using patch emmc_appsboot.mbn will keep you stuck at the old miui rom only

I did try Official unlock alot of Times, but it never worked for me so I unlocked unofficially instead. Is there any rom you need to be on? Live dev miui or something?

You can't check what bootloader you have but if you did the unofficial unlock then you're definitely on LP bootloader.
Firmware is whatever the last MIUI ROM or standalone Firmware you've flashed.
You needed to be on latest MIUI dev to unlock officially.
If you're on Kate though, then doing this doesn't seem to cause problems when flashing the latest LOS. Can't guarantee the same for kenzo though.
How to flash latest miui on UL LP bootloader
I've unlocked my bootloader unofficially and can't flash any new ROM. How can i go back to MIUI to get MM bootloader without any problem of boot loops?
