Lg G5 Cam questions - LG G5 Questions & Answers

I've had my lg g5 cam plus for a couple days now and i have only seen the module charging the phone once. I've read in another thread to turn the module on with the record button but that does nothing. I of course tossed the user manual immediately like a dope and I hope I'm missing something simple. Help!

[Q] Any ideas why phone shuts-down when....

Hi All,
Does anyone have any idea why the speaker on my Nexus 6 becomes active when the camera app is opened ?
So the reason I ask this is because, with Android, since KitKat, I have been plagued by phones that shut-down when I take a picture if my phone is not connected to WiFi. With my LG G3 I put this down to the phone itself and changed it for the Nexus 6 and the same thing happens with that. So, I figure it has to be an app I am using. So I have reset the N6 to factory, logged in with my Google account, set it up as a new phone and taken 20 pictures without an issue. I then enabled Google Now, took one picture and the phone shuts down.
I now have it to the point where if I open the camera app the speaker comes on very faintly and you can hear the cell broadcast sound, then the phone shuts down.
This only happens with the stock camera app by the way and only when there is no WiFi.
I am struggling to think why a phone that is reset, with no apps on it, is doing this..........and this is the second N6 I have had by the way (sent the last one back about a month ago for the same reason) :crying:
Maybe me resetting the phone from the settings menu is not good enough as it knows that it was originally paired with my Google account and will not let me proceed until I have entered my details.
Any ideas greatly appreciated. Apologies if there is a better section for this post. Thanks.
Simon.

As I said in my post, it happened on my LG G3 as well so I don't see this as being an N6 issue. Thanks.

Cam Plus Module Problems - How Should it work?!

Hey guys,
I'm on my second Cam Plus module, and I have no idea how to make it work, or what I should expect.
I've attached it to my phone, and charged it for 5+ hours. During the first two hours I didn't see any LEDs on the Cam Plus. After two hours it started flashing red to indicate charging (I think?).
I've never had it change from red flashing LED.
The Cam Plus firmware update just shows the same "Connect a Cam Plus to check for Updates" message with the module attached. The LG Friends app sees the device and lists it as connected. I've not been able to get the module to do anything, or have any buttons work in the LG Camera app. Moving the bottom switch seems to not do anything.
Am I crazy here, or is this second unit defective? Am I just doing it wrong?
Thanks guys, any help is appreciated.
I just picked up a brand new lg g5 with the cam plus and I'm having the same issue!
Just received mine yesterday. Make sure you have the correct model number for your lg g5. Mine is ATT and is only compatible with the cbg-720 model. The other model cbg-700 is for all over lg g5s.
Also the module does not work when USB is plugged in. Hope this helps.
I'm on my 3rd and second G5 phone. None have worked so far. I called lg and they told me theres no troubleshooting for the camplus. They are aware that there is a problem though.
I call them every week, this week will be the fifth time.
Sent from my LG-H831 using Tapatalk
Yeah there's no specific trick to making it work. I just plugged it in and pressed the buttons and it worked.
Mine showed a red led once it has been used as it's then charging your battery but that's it.
I just bought a G5 and Cam Plus yesterday. I have the exact same problem as OP. Has charged it for 12Hr+ and the Cam Plus LED is still a flashing red.
Edit: As mentioned above, you probably need the CBG700 to work, since this one works with all carriers other than AT&T. I have the CBG720 and I am using Bell that is probably the problem. Will take it back to the store tomorrow and see if I can exchange for a 700 and see if it works.
The cam plus is a total flop to me... Only uses battery to charge phone when using camera, weird glitches where it never seems to fully charge and I've had 2 die when plugged in tonthe wrong charger...
If any of you paid for it, I'd return it ASAP.
H831 here running on Bell and having the same DOA with the cam plus. I went out and purchased 2 other CBG-720 cam units at different stores and no dice (returned them both right away). What a waste of time. Wondering if someone running H831's can confirm if the other cam plus model (CBG-700) works?
My CamPlus was bundled from Telus, it's the 720 model. Just got my third unit, it's flashing red while presumably charging right now, doesn't do anything else.
What SHOULD happen?
Hey everyone!
I just signed up to reply to this one.
Having the same issues as everyone else (can charge the phone, but only getting a blinking red light on the camplus. also where the lg friends app was not able to detect the camplus), but I've managed to make mine work.
Just make sure you got the latest firmware (they had a release this August, around 500mb in size)
For its first use, the camplus needs that version of the firmware to boot up to.
Kinda weird why lol
Btw, when you get a blinking red light during charging it means the camplus hasn't been booted up.
You should be expecting a mellow red/ sorta yellow, non-blinking light.
When I got my g5 from Telus they gave me the camplus and it never worked, returned it and tried 3 different units brand new from Telus And none worked, the LG rep was at the store that day and none worked for he either on her g5. I ended up getting credit back for that bonus item
even when you get it working it's rubbish mine is back in the box in a cupboard. But if it helps, after speaking to lg, you need friends manager and camplus manager from the app store, plug in the module, run both apps, restart the phone if it says connect the module it may find an update. after this it should work and even charge when not attached to the phone.
hope this helps

My Cam Module stopped working after a software update. I pressed the video record and sliding on/off switch for 3 seconds. The led start blinking green, amber and red. I rebooted the phone and launched the LG Friends app to re-pair the LG Cam Plus. It works again. This procedure must hard reset the module.
Cam Plus help
Hi,
After doing a dumb thing and purchasing the Cam Plus for my G5, I found that I purchased the wrong MPN. I have purchased the correct one now, but would like to know what country and carrier so I can sell the wrong one. Manufacturer's part # is TMON64673. LG has only told me to go to every countries LG site and check the model #. Off hand any advice you can give would be appreciated.

Hey. Just make sure you update the phone first to the latest version, then put in the CAM.
Afaik, the CAM won't be updating. It just needs an updated phone for it to work.
Hope this helps.
getting cam plus to work
I finally got my cam plus to charge. Apparently the battery locks when it is fully discharged, you have to attach it to the phone and charge for about 5 minutes, but apps have to be up to date for this to work, got no light or flashing red light at first. Flashing red light started once I installed lg friends manager app. The cam plus app will not see the module either. I think I did press the camera on button and the video button on the cam plus for 3 seconds before it started to flash on one of the phones, I had 2 that did not work.
If you get the flashing red light it is not charging, what you need to do is update your lg5 by going to settings>general>about phone>update centre>app updates then do the updates. Once I did this the module started to get a solid red light and started the charge. You can then remove from phone and charge cam plus on it's own then and you should get a solid green light when charged.
Hope this helps.
I had the same problem. Go to youtube and look for a video entitled 'LG G5 Cam Plus fix (how to overcome the flashing red LED of death problem )'. Follow this guys instructions and you should have a functioning Cam Plus that you don't want to punch anymore.
Kudos to the guy who posted the video for persevering and getting an answer from LG.
I hope this helps because I know how aggravated I was by the whole thing, especially after having to send back the G5 SE as it doesn't have RAW capability. It took ages to get the phone and set up I wanted. Anyway, it's all been worth it 'cos it's a cracking wee piece of kit.

I didn't forget, as a new contributor I am unable to post links. I'm sorry you had difficulty finding the youtube post, I thought I had provided adequate information to navigate to it quickly. If you have any further issues just ask your Mum to help you.
Oh, and by the way, you're welcome.

Is there a way to install the LG G5 stock camera on the LG G5 SE?

Even though the SE is a "lesser" phone compared to its big brother, I'm really loving this device.
One of the only things I really miss compared to my old LG G4 is the ability to take raw photos, as this is not present on the stock G5 SE camera app. So this got me thinking: if I could install the stock G5 camera app, that would solve my problem. Thanks to the help of a reddit poster, I got hold of the LG G5 camera apk... But it won't install using the normal procedure. It starts and then the procedure is cancelled without further explanation.
Is there any way I could acomplish that?

I think that either the apk file you have is corrupted or that the phone detected that your phone is not compatible. Its probably the second reason and I don't know how to fix that but some devs may be able to port it to your device. Here's an apk from my g5, see if this works better.

My LG-H930DS randomly shutdown

Hello,
I've bought off ebay a LG V30+ H930DS 128go to replace my laggy LG G5 at a pretty good price (150€). The back cover was crack, so I replaced it with a 10€ one from aliexpress.
Unfortunately the phone randomly shutdown, like once every day or two making it horrible to use it as an alarm for work, and using it. When it happens, power button doesn't start it, I need to do the Volume - min + power button to start the phone.
Does any of you know how to fix that or where the problem is coming from ?
Battery health is good according to battery apps, already tried factory reset.
Since I change the back I can't really ask for a refund on ebay, and a bit sad of spending all of this money on a non fully working phone.
Thank you
I can't provide you with a straight fix / solution but it's possibly hardware related. Anyway, you might wanna check out these following links that might give you better idea.

Hey thank you for the response unfortunately nothing worked so far
Just find out that, it doesn't shutdown, it freezes, since my phone was out of my pocket, I've seen that the always on display still work, but the phone is unresponsive.
In my case, gcam ported is oftenly responsible for the device becoming unresponsive under certain situation. That and of course, too many tabs opened in browser as well as too many apps opened. Try using naptime's aggressive doze and limit few frequently used apps only, see how it works on your end. It needs a permission granted through adb though.

It won't if gcam was definitely what caused the problem. See how it goes for a couple of days and keep only few apps unoptimized in the background in battery setting. I am using aggressive doze at the moment with exception of most important apps.

number of rings before it goes to voicemail (Moto X4 vs Moto G3)

On the Moto X4 One Fi I am running a Mar 1 sec update on stock Pie. This has been a problem probably since I got the X4. I had the Moto Z Play for a while before the battery expanded and broke the screen but I don't recall the prob with that. I know there is a delay built into the build.prop but with this phone modifying it is very hazardous to its health. Esp if you haven't backed up efs, persist and all of those. (TWRP 3.3.1.0 img) It is an absurdly fragile (software-wise) phone.
With the X4 I called ATT (I'm on ATT Prepaid) and had them increase the delay to the max of 30 sec. that still gets me 3 rings at best. Android swallows about 20 seconds before it starts ringing.
This morning it rang once, I grabbed for it but it was already off to voicemail. Straw. Camel.
I swapped my sim back to my old Moto G3 (8.1 Aug '19 I think) and life immediately improved even though it was only set to 20 sec. I couldn't get the **61* code to change this so I called ATT and had them set it to 30secs. Fine for now.
But that leaves me with a beautiful X4 One Fi "still in warranty" except it's unlocked - that's the way it came - ebay. I have seen other folks complain about this on other phones.
Thus my question in the Gereral section of XDA.
At some point google decided that android should wait 20 secs or so before recognizing that a call was coming in, and starting to ring. I don't know if that was purely a Pie feature, or when that started.
I always buy used phones (lately only Moto) that are a year or 2 old. Even with that, the X4 One Fi had this problem. I suppose I could try to go back to Oreo but I would probably brick it by doing so, but will think about it.
So I immediately start thinking - would I be safe with a G7? G5? etc etc etc.
Does anyone have an idea when this started?
My thanks to the 2 mods who moved it to this location.
I have found 2 things that affect the pick-up time - removing the "fitbit" app, and de-selecting vibrate in the settings/sound menu.
Adding the "fitbit" app back in but de-selecting notifications and vibration in its menus yielded little change. (this is a $14 ebay fitbit lookalike - BP and all that, and the app here is Yoho-Sport).
I did a bit of googling and I see this going back to at least 2011 or earlier, so it's been around for a while. (so I won't try to go back to Oreo with the X4 - no point) The presence of a BT headset may also affect delay to pick-up but I have not tested this yet.
So the question has been refined from which opsys or phone, to what apps and settings to achieve best/lowest delay to pick-up.
(Note, I did do a safe start just to see what it would do "natively". )(I think minimum w/o hacking google is about 7 secs. Carrier here is ATT Prepaid)
Thanks all for looking in.
EDIT: I did some more playing w/o having the BT earpiece on. In SAFE mode it only takes about 4 seconds for the Accept/Decline boxes to appear!!!!!!!, but easily another 10 seconds for the first loud ring. !*#$*$$# them for making that first ring so soft - should be optional.
I'm afraid I do gain too much by uninstalling the "fitbit" app so that is now a given. All I use it for is seeing how many steps I did in a day. I don't really care that much about the nice history graphs. Would be nice but being able to receive calls is much more important.
yeah, seems workable w/o the "fitbit" app on the phone.
