Hi all, I have a TS 1/8/2100, firmware 20140513.
TWRP and Bluetooth tether ROM are available for firmware 20140328 only. Past conversations make me think there won't be any update soon.
A solution would be to install previous firmware, then TWRP, then update firmware. But partitions changed in between.
According to this SP Flash Tool can also physically format a partition if you can get a partition management table (PMT). The scatter file describes logical partitions, but it seems you can also add PMT. (After backup with MTKDroidTool, click "prepare Blocks for FlashTool")
Knowing this, provided that hardware is relatively unchanged, it could be possible for newest TS to enjoy TWRP happiness.
I would like to try, if someone could be kind enough to give me a stock backup for TS 1-8-2100 firmware 20140328 with PMT. (there sould be a file called MT6572_Android_scatter_emmc_PMT.txt)
I need you to help me help you to help me help you.
thx.

Thank you anyway.
That's all that was generated by the tool I'm afraid, I followed the steps from the link you provided too, but still no joy. It only produces the standard one, no PMT suffix.

That's unfortunate. Did you click on "prepare Blocks for FlashTool" after backup ? I'll try myself asap to confirm the procedure.
Yes I did, but no PMT text file in the relevant folder..

Well, the procedure is correct. It appears that PMT can be (or not) in scatter file without any difference in the filename. So you have to check by yourself, as I did, if you want to format. (look for many lines per partition, like 'physical_start_addr' and 'linear_start_addr')
You have to select "format+download" in "sp flash tools" to format everything (including preloader, so be carefull).
Take all precautions: Backup everything, including userdata and cache partition, because sp flash tools will ask for it if you have to format. Do not forget to backup nvram.
Doing this, I successfully formatted the TS and installed previous firmware, 20140328.
Sadly, the TS won't boot. Here lies my hope to get TWRP and bt tether ROM working without update from its creator...
So, back to firmware 20140513.
After the new format+backup, TS boot normally, but I had a "IMEI invalid" error. So, I used MTKdroidtools to restore nvram the same way I previously backed it up.
Complete 'format+download' is to be used if you messed up with partitions or if partitions changed.
Could be usefull, this was to let you know how.

Install last firmware known to be working with twrp.
Did that.
The device doesn't boot anymore.
Revert to previous backup.
Did that.
I like to see things by myself.
It's not your firmware that's the problem. I'm running twrp on the latest firmware without issue.

I can only rely on testimonies on this very forum, but I have not seen a single person succesfully installed twrp on firmware 20140513.
I have seen successfull install on previous firmware, and then OTA upgrade.
What is it for you ?
It is exactly what I told you. It's up to you to believe me or not.

TWRP Install on newest firmware + OTA
got watch on 7/26. did OTA. firmware date 5/27/2014. unable to install TWRP via any method including shell DD command. well it installs but on entry I just get on the old andy with red ! showing. It seems like a watchdog timers reboots it after a few minutes and all is back to the way it was.
Which TWRP did you use?
Hello everyone!
I've been very happy with my rooted M9 for the last few months but now a system update message on my screen and I'm trying to figure out what to do about. I seem to recall when I rooted my phone that there could be complications if I install a system update on a rooted phone (like making a Nandroid Backup) but I'm finding scarce information on the topic. Does anyone here have some advice about this?

Follow the second link above.
You will need to restore the factory system.img using TWRP (exFAT or NTFS for external USB as file is > 4GB).
This puts the modified system (root) back to stock so the update will run successfully.
Flash the original recovery for you system version too.
Then you can accept the OTA and then root the phone again.
Thanks for the responses! I'm still uncertain about a few things so tell me if I have this right.
First I need to restore the factory image. Is that a guy named OJM is talking about on this thread? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-one-m9/general/rooting-guide-t3073004)
To restore your clean system backup to accept OTAs, you must use fastboot. If you are S-ON, you must be in download mode.
-copy your clean system.emmc.win to your adb/fastboot folder on your pc
-boot into download mode
-use cmd fastboot flash system system.emmc.win
Click to collapse
In that case, what is a system.emmc.win?
Then I flash the original recovery...what are you refering to when you say "original recovery"?
After that my phone should be locked again and I can go to that second link, download the latest firmware and flash it. And then I can unlock and root my phone again.
Edit: So it looks like someone has made a guide on how to get the OTA updates (if you use the right words in your search). It looks no one done anything with it since May so maybe it still works? http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/best-unlocking-bootloader-rooting-guide-t3087354
I would just run the official RUU, it's a one shot process will take care of everything including the radios. Much easier than messing around, just make sure you are S-OFF before you do it. When it's done just flash the latest TWRP and install your rom you will be done.

hi sim I have a question the only thing I got to make sure is that the phone is S-OFF and nothing will happen because I read that also the bootlooder had to be lock again so I'm not sure
Does anyone have one or the other? Either a full twrp backup of stock/untouched system/boot/(maybe)data, or all of the img's extracted from a kdz? I need to restore stock, but I can't as I don't have access to a pc to use the lg up software, and I don't have any backups. Did the bootloader unlock and flashed twrp, but after flashing the no-verity and supersu zips, I can only boot up to an "encryption unsuccessful" screen, with a "reset phone" button that just takes me back to twrp.

I forgot I even made this thread. I actually ended up buying a cheapo Windows 10 tablet on Amazon and used that to flash the KDZ. So My phone is good now. Still, I'm sure I'm not the only one running into the issue of needing to get to stock without the use of a Windows machine, so feel free to upload/link whatever you have for anyone else that might stumble upon this tread.

But Lgup nor Lg Bridge detect my phone, lgup does say something in the com part but when selected says please select a compatible device or something of that nature so Ill try this flash this with TWRP and hope it does the job p.s. I also used uppercut program too it as well didn't work for my phone
Please let me know if it works for you also it will look like it gets stuck u just got to be patient until it says done. Used it quite a few times instead of the whole computer route.

Just FYI, you do NOT need to do anything to your encrypted data partition before flashing Magisk. I restored my phone back to stock(using LGUP) and when I flashed twrp, I did NOT swipe to make changes to system, and I didn't touch the data partition at all. I simply flashed the Magisk zip and rebooted. Works great. I want to make a TWRP backup before trying stuff like xposed, but I'm still a bit nervous about trying to make the backup with the encrypted data or the read-only system, especially if I need to actually restore it. Decrypting/wiping the data partition is what completely borked my phone the first time around and I don't have access to Windows anymore to use LGUP again. Maybe I should just leave well-enough alone at this point. It's been a million years since I've used xposed and I don't even know if there's anything in there I'd want.

You can always flash back to stock using TWRP with the link provided above if someone something goes wacked, I can't use LGUP it does not detect my phone so this was a easier solution for me instead of using a pc you can do it from your phone so long as it's MP450 version

Did you use UPPERCUT with LGUP? I started right out that way and it had no trouble detecting and flashing my phone. I installed the lg drivers, installed LGUP, plugged in the phone and ran uppercut.exe. From taking the computer out of the box, to flashing the phone, was like 10 minutes. Packed up the computer and returned it at the UPS store an hour later. And I'm using the same phone as you, so I don't see why it shouldn't work. Although if the TWRP backup works, that's far more convenient anyway, so it's kind of a moot point. Still, it would be good to have access to LGUP in the future, just in case you somehow get to a point where the twrp backup can't save you.

Fingerprint broken is a known problem when reverting to stock from lineage
Someone has found a solution though,
this is from the lineage post
.
---------- Post added at 09:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:03 PM ----------
["Well luckily, I remembered the fix. And I remembered why I made a complete twrp backup of the lineage install before going back to stock. I made a backup of my fully configued stock, wiped everything but internal storage(obviously)and restored the lineage backup. Booted in, deleted all of the registered prints and the pin, then rebooted(back into lineage to make sure everything sticks). Then just back into twrp, wipe again, restore my stock backup. Booted in once, then rebooted once for good measure. Added a pin and a few fingerprints and it works as it should now. I don't remember which phone it was(maybe my Note 4), but it was always very important to delete your prints/pins before wiping/flashing/restoring to any other rom, or even just an backup. Not sure what happened if you no longer have a backup of lineage where you registered prints. Maybe install/setup a fresh lineage, add prints and a pin, then delete them all, then revert/restore to stock?" ]
i did not find this just letting you know a solution i take no credit for this.

Hey guys.
I'm trying to update my F1 but since it's rooted, OTA is not happening (it caused my phone to TWRP bootloop) and other's have reported that they had a better working version flashing the update via the SP Flash Tool. So last time I tried using the Flash Tool was a mess getting it to work (because drives and all) so I was hoping someone might have an image of this update that I could flash via TWRP or is there's a way to convert the extracted RAR folder. Thanks for any help.

The OTA update may be used in Twrp, with some edits, depending on what all has been changed on phone .
I do not have time this weekend to look at it. But can in few days
***UPDATE***
This can update from version 20190316 only
If you open the update.zip you have from the OTA and replace the 'updater-script' with the one attached here. It should perform the update. Remove the ".txt" from the file name first
I say should , because if you have done significant modifications then that may effect its effectiveness.
@mantarkus
I put together an OTA style zip, that has the same images as sp flash install, with only exception being the preloader. The preloader from stock OTA update is different format to the preloader used in flash tool. ( Assume it has to do with the way it gets intalled ) So I have the preloader from OTA in the zip.
I have not uploaded the zip, or tested it out. Before i use the data to upload it. Let me know if you are interested.

Hi all, have a few questions that might seem daft to some but need to get my head around it.
I have my Mix 4 and its obviously running the CN Rom. It is littered with bugs and there are many features that do not work or just missing, to the point where i could not use it as my daily driver in its current form.
Ive been reading up on flashing the EU Odin rom, and see alot of the issues are already fixed in it.
So after 4 hours of faffing i have managed to request a bootloader unlock. and i understand this will be a full wipe and reinstall.
This is my first question 8 days wait!
1: how do I keep an eye on the time left?
2: I have what i think are all the files ready to go to flash, but i understand this is done through fastboot?
3: So no OTA updates after this i would have to keep reflashing manually.?
4: I here something about TWRP that would enable this, but dont quite understand the process, or where do the updates then come from?
5: Are there any security issues like running Banking applications after unlocking, as i think it plays with security issues.
Hope someone with better understanding can help.
Hi...
1) I use my calendar to see when the time is right to resume the unlocking process
2) there's tutorial for this ...
[ROM][MIUI][odin] Xiaomi.eu ROM for Xiaomi MIX 4
How to install Xiaomi.eu ROM for Xiaomi MIX 4 We will release fastboot ROM versions until TWRP for odin is released Steps to install xiaomi.eu ROM for first time from China ROM (All your data and files on internal storage will be deleted!) -...
forum.xda-developers.com
3) yes... no OTAs from within the system, but ...
4) with TWRP you can flash the updates. You need to check,if the update-files are marked 'fastboot' or 'recovery'(TWRP)
5) Can't answer that one.
Good Luck.
Ok thanks for your help, still deciding to take the plunge or not, expensive bit of kit. Awhile to decide i guess.

Updating through TWRP should leave your apps and data intact.
Edit:It was way to early to answer the question... without twrp, only fastboot is possible as far as i know. When i used fastboot, i made a complete clean flash.
So once you have done it through fastboot you can use TWRP thereafter, thats cool.
I believe a CN to EU is a data wipe anyway.

If you have TWRP available...
Ok guys managed to unlock my phone and flash the rom, all seemed ok untill it started updating my apps, and then gets stuck on app 8 of 144 and just will never progress?.
It seems i have somehow flashed a slightly older rom, so going to reflash with the latest, but i dont want to do fastboot again as i have to keep manually updating, is there a twrp yet?

Did you follow ALL instructions of the tutorial? How exactly did you proceed?
I think I accidentally tried to restore a google backup from my old phone, guess there was an app it didnt like, anyway reflashed to 21.9.8 and all is going well, amazing improvement over the original. very pleased.
Been having a play and only found 1 issue as yet, when you lock an open app in recents, you can still swipe it away?.

Thanks for replying. Did you have to do anything special like Magisk hide to hide that you rooted the phone?
Im not rooted, just running custom rom. I have no need to root.
What if I want to go from EU to CN? Bought the phone. It came with EU rom. But I would like to install the official rom.
